He’s been enigma 9 out of 10 seasons. This is the potential guy that we all saw but he never was, he was a good player for 9 seasons.
Let’s not lose our heads here, at some point there are going to have to be tough cap decisions and it isn’t just strome this season.

Be just like the Rangers in the middle of a looming cap crunch to trade for another longterm D contract, while having multiple issues to fix at forward. Be one thing if Nemeth was going the other way, but me thinks he would block that trade.
Rangers can’t trade Kreider or Trouba without their consent for two more seasons after this, and even then they both have strong NTC clauses (Kreider’s stronger throughout and he has more term left). So not a near term or necessarily long term path to cap relief.

Wicky is 100% correct that Kreider’s is one of the contracts that may have to move sooner or later in order to put the club over the top. Numbers do not lie.
Wick – you and I see eye to eye on a lot of things but Kreider is the dead end point to an extension. We all have our opinions on the guy, I for one just can’t look at his career and define him by the potential he didn’t reach anymore than I can define him as a superstar Ranger.
I think He’s been a great Ranger. He’s had some huge moments for this team. But he has also been very streaky despite his career numbers being consistent at the end of each year…impossible to try to debate his inconsistency even for the apologists.
Happy to see him having such a huge year and excelling under Gallant as I thought he might.
Also consider him a leader on this team even if he doesn’t drop the gloves or decapitate people 🙂

I listened to the DFO rundown podcast from Friday this morning.
Serravelli feels the Rangers will make multiple trades. Nothing new here, I think we are all expecting that. What was interesting was his take on Georgiev. Said many teams view him as a number one. Felt Edmonton should be going after him. Also said if he were Edmonton he would offer up their first rounder, or even Jesse P. I guess the league has a different view of Georgiev than we do.
on that play in question, Lindgren was the closest man to Larson and gave him but a shove, so if you want to get on someone it should be Lindgren. By the time kreider got there were multiple players there and the refs.
And retribution later in the game should have been handled by a guy like goodrow or mckegg or rooney, not kreider.
If they want Lafrenière to excel, then either Kreider or Panarin needs to be traded. If they are perfectly happy with Kreider and Panarin being the two LWs for the next 5 years, then they should seriously consider trading Lafrenière.

Although Kreider has been on a hot streak, I don’t believe he will revert back to the “enigma” of inconsistency he has been.
Kreider is not motivated by having a “contract year”. All that has happened is he’s gained more responsibility with a new coaching staff. He thinks less, and has a more consistent plan to execute.
$6.5 million (Strome numbers) for a top-line LW that plays in all zones, is also a net front presence (best in league, sorry Anders Lee) and kills penalties (now with 2 short handed goals) and brings leadership intangibles. The 6.5 looks like a steal to me.
Kreider also is the last direct link to the “black and blueshirts” era.
