Rangers-3, Sharks-Ugatz

Published by

on

Good morning, Boneheads!

I wish I had more time to talk about this impressive win by a team that is so depleted that they could barely dress 6-7 NHL forwards because of COVID.

But! They have a world class goalie, a couple of game breakers, and a young kid whose future in NY looks very bright.

More importantly, they have a system implemented by real coaching staff that is identical throughout the entire organization. That’s what allowed bottom 6 to step in and do what they are asked to do.

Staples isn’t up yet. But here is LB with his take.

Not a perfect game, but a good solid win late in a road trip by a depleted squad.

Congrats to Kreider for scoring 2 on a night he was named an all-star, to Shesterkin for the shutout, and to Braden Schneider for playing and scoring in his first NHL game.

The Brunchers should also be happy this morning for Schneider (he scored) as well as Chytil getting a point in his third straight game.

    Admiral Akbar

Schneider can kiss Hartford good-bye. Granted it’s a tiny 1 game sample, but I don’t recall seeing Nils as poised and effective as Schneider in any of the games he’s played.

  3. Admiral Akbar Avatar
    Admiral Akbar

During last night’s thread, someone mentioned they wanted to see Schneider-Jones in next game… I don’t think they’re going to want to put two rookies together on defense right away. More importantly, Schneider-Nemeth made a nice (read: “big, heavy”) 3rd pairing last night.

I wonder if Schneider continues to ascend while Miller treads water, that they switch pairing partners closer to the playoffs…

  4. Admiral Akbar Avatar

    Shesterkin looked GREAT.

I believe if he hadn’t been injured, Shesterkin would’ve named an all star as well.

Perfect Debut for the highly touted rookie. Awesome that he scored. But more than that, his skating, positioning and snarl was just what we needed and he’s barely 20 years old!!! Will be a beast as he gets even stronger.

Really nice story with Greco and his dad and the fire department. If giannone asked me that question with all the emotion of the game and the death still relatively fresh (2020) I don’t think I could have kept my composure and not started crying.

He’s got some wheels. Almost had a nice assist. Quick decision maker. Skates with some grit.

Could be a Blackwell type player who can fill in on any wing.

Especially needed with these covid protocol times.

  8. cregg7 Avatar

Barron is a faster skater than given credit. He clearly has worked on that. Can win faceoffs. Good defender. I think he has some sneaky offensive capability too. Hope he sticks.

Especially if Chytil does better at RW

Chytils size and raw skill I think is a good fit for either of the top two RWs. Worth an extended look there to fill a need given Injuries and whinesofts flight.

If Chytil learns to use his size along the boards, he can become Kakko 2.0… hopefully one of them at least learns to put the puck in the net once on a while. 😉

Chytil looked a little more free, but he still makes the same mistakes over, and over again. Still refuses to get the puck deep. He’s not going to be on the team come the deadline.

  13. SN Avatar

Bobby – I do not think they have the roster yet to compete for a Cup yet, but familiarity bias when looking at fav team you see play all the time. ESPN+ is a godsend to allow viewing of other games; watched parts of 3 games last night and wow did Carolina lay a turd last night.

Schneider is EXACTLY the type of player they need in the second season. Fans need to forget about needing more ‘O’ from the back line on PP and realize players like that will create more O at ES by stopping the opp and moving the puck quickly which he did very impressively last night.

  14. SN Avatar
    SN

BDL – the play in the 3rd when he lost the puck along the boards, regained it and tried a BS shot from the point with NOBODY on him that led to the 4-2 break the other way late in a tight game. Dumb as a stump. Addition by subtraction.

  15. Gravy Avatar
    Gravy

Best case Chytil finds himself on the wing and becomes the player some think he still can be. Next best is he builds up trade value before curling back up into the Chytil position.

  16. Gravy Avatar

SN, agree with you on the Cup contender status. I will say they have an X factor in net though. Not sure I’ve seen a more calm 37 save shutout before.

As good as Georgie generally was, there’s always a bit of chaos to his game. Rebounds, scrambling, etc. Igor was smooth like butter in his lateral moves.

Schneider was impressive. Joe Willie seemed to be a little more physical.

Chytil didnt get back on the ice rest of game after that play in 3rd period. Think Knoblauch threw Brodzinksi in for him next shift. Hopefully a few games as wing on Panarin line can get Chytil going …think he picked up another assist. t

So how did they give up essentially a penalty shot in the second period? Cogliano was the only player in the picture as Shesty stoned him. It didn’t look like a bad 2nd period change. How did they all get that deep in the zone?

  21. bobbyo2019 Avatar

Cogliano tripped Strome near blue line before he got that breakaway…Refs missed it

Gravy – was it that many saves? Wow, did not realize that. There were some grade A chances in 3rd including a kick save from point blank I remember. Goalies can win a round or two but you wouldn’t want to count on it.

Chytil has the size, but his problem is he gets blown off his skates every time someone opens the door in the arena, let alone hits him.

  25. James G Avatar

Kreider had himself a hell of a game. He was everywhere.

As I said about Schneider and as others had mentioned prior to his call up- he’s here to stay now that he’s here.

Watching Hertl hang onto the puck too long in the offensive zone and forcing an extra pass when he had a shooting lane makes me think he’s the perfect fit in NY. (S)

  26. ilb2001 Avatar
    ilb2001

Bobbyo, Cogliano did trip Strome, but also both D men pinched unnecessary. I have to rewatch it, but they were too deep to back up Strome. You’re up 1-0, there is no reason for that. Was an important save, the game could’ve changed in a heartbeat

I only saw the last six minutes and highlights? How did JP Morgan he Robber Barron look? I believe he could be the key to their decision-making. If he is a solid center, other chips start to fall into place. Speaking of chips, I see that Chytil is still in the doghouse but on Schneider’s goal, he made a nice pass to Strome, kept going and took two Sharks out of the shooting lane with him.

Miller Lite is holding back Tuba, which is a problem. Watching Joe Willie last night with a competent defender make a difference. Tuba has to deal with Miller poor reads, ill advised passes and lack of lateral movement.

Schneider is a much less expensive Tuba alternative when the time comes if he can develop into a top 4 RD.

Flip Flop is going to get points playing with Stromeo and Bread; most on this board could. Hopefully he will up with trade value, which would be a huge win win for the team when they move him.

Hard to make any judgements on the Red Baron offensive abilities playing with Gettinger and Johnny Brazinski. What is noticeable is his work on the wall and ability to extend ozone shifts winning 50/50 battles; a critical skill for bottom six.

I am old enough to remember Ranger fans whining that Christian Dube was not given the chance to come and dominate with the big club. Substitute any name you want from prospects past and it is the same. I think it is fans being fans. For me, I wanted to see Nils and Jones, but neither fit in like Schneider did last night. Speaking of last night, I would be very happy if Kappo Kakko developed into a Timo Meier. No idea of that will happen though. The Sharks go to the net hard. The Rangers need more of that.

Just a few years after Dolan spent a billion on a refurbish some dolt thinks they will be able to build another building for 800. Maybe if they said 2.5 billion I might believe it. Can you just imagine how expensive the tickets to the new MSG would be. Shesty could make a playoff series fun. But we have to reel in the expectations a bit. If you’re going on a run in the post season you need contributions from everyone. You need special teams production. You need to be able to punish the opponent and wear them down when they come into your zone. You need to get pucks deep consistently and crash the net
Rangers aren’t there yet. Especially without a 3C

  63. James G Avatar

Schneider also got 15 minutes of TOI so he wasn’t sheltered very much. He was really good in his own end and poised and calm with the puck and as Cosmo says “Poise counts.” The goal was the cherry on the sundae.
Barron’s skating style looks awkward but he seemed to be able to keep up and even catch people. Greco actually showed the most offensively. A little like My Cousin Vinny. He must have really missed his dad when he pulled on the Ranger sweater and hit the ice wearing it.

The other glaringly bad Chytil play was an attempt at a cross ice pass to the lead skater while just crossing blue line out of our own end. we will sink or swim in the playoffs ultimately based on effectiveness of top 2 lines at even strength and our 1st pp unit.

It always helps if you have a strong third line, but if at least one of the top two lines aren’t producing at even strength better than they are now it’s hard to envision much of a run, especially as not likely to get as many pp opportunities in the playoffs.

In 2012 NYR went to game 6 of ECF with a less effective offense in the top 6 and little bottom 6 offense.

Hab nots last season beat the highly skilled Maple Loafs while scoring 14 goals in 7 games in Round 1. Habs scored 15 goals in 6 games to win 2nd round as well.
The Earlers featuring the two highest scoring forwards in the league, scored 8 goals in 4 games and were swept in round 1.

That team was pretty tight. I always remember that delzaster 24/7 clip after he got jumped in the crease (or cross checked) and a big scrum ensued and he asked the trainer in the back which teammate jumped in and helped him…good stuff

Couldn’t find the 24/7 link with the delzaster thing in the training room but man I love what Rupp did.

Rupp waited the intial pile out then got the payback…love it!

Also liked the perp not getting protected by the nhl initially.

Man. I’m in a hotel and I saw the movie tombstone was about to begin.

They don’t make movies the same way. Actors today can’t even compare actors of the past.

And the biggest difference. You got like 5 big actors on screen at the same time running through their lines

If you were to key in on it, you’d see today. Every shot is a solo shot. Actors today it’s a solo shot and their lines, and then they go to a solo shot of the other character and back and forth. Bc they can’t act very well. It has to be broke down into shots and scene where the actors/actresses doesn’t have to get the take just right while playing off the other actors.

More than scenes or skits. It’s solo shot and the person is by themselves and coodled. Done in front of blue screens. The people who get jobs today over and over. Are the ones who can imagine the scenery that’s supposed to be there, while actually being filmed In front of a blue screen.

A lot of old school actors probably can’t stand having act all astounded by the majestic mountains thwt are gonna be filtered in via cgi

    It’s so manufactured

Tombstone just puts all new movies to shame. The scale of the scenes in it

That’s a really cool olympic roster
I will tune in to see how a lot of these guys look today.

That kind of roster construction old and young can only come together in the olympics

Wouldn’t be in the World Cup
Wouldn’t be in the wjc or world championships

That’s why I say like the NHLers grow a World Cup into their own best on best.

And let the retirees and guys wanting to get back in and the best young players not In the NHL make up Olympic competitive.

It has a unquie vibe to it.

  131. Jpp2.0 Avatar
    Jpp2.0

Wow bedard made the team. That makes sense. Olympic gymnasts are teenagers a lot of the time right. I guess it’s true there isn’t a 18 yo age requirement for Olympic competition.

I’m pretty sure bedard is 16 years old

    Wicky-

Have the US or Russia announced their rosters.

I am now really curious to see where each country pulls their team from.

WJC eligible players? Does one country bring pretty much their entire world juniors roster? Or does say Sweden pull most of the team from the SHL.

Curious to see if and how many ex-nhlers are on the Russian and USA clubs especially

Much like the Irishmen in brave heart.

I’ve always gravitated towards the doc holiday character.

I don’t know if it’s bc I wish I had blood brother or bc I at my core have always believed that represented my role In life.

From the time I was 5 years old. It was programmed and conditioned into me: your the big brother. No matter what ever happens you are your sisters big brother. If anything ever happens to us. You have to become us. And I think bc of that conditioning at a young age. I kinda always saw myself as my dads right hand man.

Much like doc holiday and the crazy Irishmen

I just saw that scene 5 mins ago.

I haven’t seen the movie in years

And when he said that, I thought to myself what a great line.

    ‘Surprise biatch’

    I’m your huckleberry.

I’m gonna start screaming that at players like hornqvist and timo meiers when I’m at a game and they act like spineless 💩.

Man up. Don’t give an elbow shot from behind after being hit cleanly hornqvist. Skate up to the guy. Grab his jersey, look him in the eye and give him a fair chance if you actually believe in yourself that handle a situation like that.

Same goes for Timo (fight my fights for me) Meiers. For a guy who 6’4 to be sneakily slashing and cross checking from behind or the side and skating into goalies and probably costing your own team a goal instead being a 6’4 force and skating through people. You ask like someone’s who 5’11 and has be sneaky to be effective physically

Big fish in small ponds. Meaning one of what is normally a pool of 750 people. You guys think your tough in comparison to 750 other guys. And yeah you may all train and lift weights and are in peak condition. But I say what it really means is how soft in a truly physical nature you guys are. If I trained like you mofos. I’d start a fight with whole teams bc A) I’m in just as good of shape as any of you and B) I’m
more ferocious than all of you
