Waiting for hockey to resume

Published by

on

Good morning, boneheads!

They will not be playing any games until after Christmas.

It also sounds like the decision to skip Olympics by NHL is all but announced officially. It is a big honor and a dream for these guys to play for their countries, but it is the right decision. Too risky.

Larry Brooks with a nice overview of the overall progress of NY’s prospects.

Lastly, HAPPY 26th, JamesG!

Riddle me this: basketball is a winter sport and participates in the SUMMER Olympics. Why is the same split applied to hockey? Would address several detrimental aspects of NHL players participating while providing offseason exposure for the NHL ahead of its actual season.

Thanks gents. A bit disappointed as my birthday gift this year was seats by the glass for tomorrow’s match against the Habs. It would have been the first time we attended a game since opening night in 2019.

Where’s the good. where’s the product? Where’s the value?

It’s so belittling to people and fans to do this.

Taking their money for the facade of having some sort of say?

It doesn’t surprise me that owners are down with this. And the commissioners cater to the owners. So I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that more and more being a pro sports team fan means accepting the people who own these teams and run these leagues. They really don’t care about people one single bit, they want to get as big a chunk of what little money people have and make to give to them.

Inevitably People will turn on pro sports bc of what these owners represent and what they value and how they eye to bleed human beings of their survival currency bc of their fandom.

@ORF- agree. He’s the enigma. On Jones and Schneider, does anyone know it they are paired together? Seems like a natural – righty lefty; offensive-minded; defensive-minded. Compare to Nemeth-Lundqvist for example. Which do you prefer?

Third pair, right wing. Same theme. Interesting that they don’t think Nemeth is number 6 on a good team. He’s had his down moments, but I thought he was steady in PK. I think he should be paired with another stay at home, but the one who is nasty with mean streak.

  91. BW Avatar

I just reread most of that article. Scout 3 is the most interesting. He is less uniformly positive and talks about guys like Reunanen (who he thinks is on the small size and not quite at Jones’ level – he discusses whether there is room for three smaller d-men) and Pajuniemi, about whom he is surprisingly positive and urges patience. He likes Barron and considers the Nemeth signing “strange”. The Chytil reticence is intriguing.

Henk Jr is not an NHL Dman just like Flip Flop is not an NHL forward now. Be interesting to see how Joe Willies advanced stats match up with the forward lines he is playing with. Seems to be out there with goals against with bottom six.
His game is better suited for the second season and has been a stalwart on the pk because Miller Lite/Less Filling can’t defend. What is pk currently ranked?

Much bigger issues with 3C and top 6 RW imho.

Would move him to play with Tuba and get stay at home RD to play with Miller Lite.

I think the NHL/NHLPA/Womens player association should do a simultaneous World Cup in august 2023. Mid-august start tourny that runs into training camp so guys on teams making semis/finals miss majority of TC. Schedule 1-2 final preseason games 2 days after the last possible WC final date and it segways directly into the regular season.

The most important part about a best on best tournament if your creating one as the NHL and the NHLPA (best players in the world) and you want to make it huge succe$$. Elimination rounds needs to be best of 3. 8 teams. 3 rounds. Round Robin for seeding.

Do the women’s World Cup same time same venue, same schedule in the semi/finals. Women early game leading into the men’s at prime time. Men’s attending the women’s games, women’s at the men. Final round action. You got women’s finals game early and men’s finals game prime time. Hockey festival. $$ money that grows the game for the NHL hrr and gives the women’s game a spotlight and revenues to solidify their own pro league. tourny gives fans some real hockey juice outside the plays offs

How bout finally uniting the two women’s hockey leagues into one pro women’s league that debuts and kicks off immediately after the World Cup. ESPN platform coverage.

my hunch is Miller was moved to D in the first place because he wasn’t that effective as a forward. so instead of being a non physical defenseman who doesn’t have a particularly strong shot and isn’t a standout passer, he’d be a non physical winger with those same deficiencies, which would be magnified when playing wing in the top 9 (as clearly he wouldn’t be a 4th line wing)

If Lou Lam had signed Nemmeth he’d be the quintessential legend. The incredibly crafty HOF GM who finds talent in places where other GMs could never be smart enough to look for talent. And at a bargain price too. While other GMs are handing out 7 year deals, Nemmeth took 3 from LOU. and under 3 million per for a dman that gives you PK minutes and has that kind of size?!
He’s SO GOOD. He’s BRILLIANT. He’s LOU! amIrightORamIright?!?!? right? right?

Merry Christmas to all of you cynics and arm chair GMs : D
