Good morning, boneheads!
Not much to dissect here, seemingly. They were bound to lose at some point, right? Right?
- Well, if you lose it, you lose the one like last night. Back at 2 am from round trip, against a dangerous, if not streaky, opponent from the West. Your third/fourth AHL string goalie who gives up a questionable goal early (I bet Shesterkin saves this one) Perfect setup.
- Except I thought they were a better team by the end of the first. They were able to kick their game up to another level, I thought.
- Colorado really picked their game up in the second. But also our boys looked tired. Some of them tried. But if you constantly give up the middle zone and do not stand up at your blueline at the same time, you’re either tired or you just don’t have it tonight. Physically or mentally. I thought it was both.
- The coaching staff is starting to use their second PP unit more. I think Gallant wasn’t happy with first unit not willing to shoot. And it’s paying off. The second unit is starting to score. Imagine having two deadly PP units in April?
- You know when it’s obvious your boys don’t have it? When Adam Fox is making boneheaded mistakes.
- Let’s get to it. Trouba is playing at the level that no one expected even when they paid him the money they did. That’s an all around elite D-man. Exactly what we were saying when this blog talked about him being absolutely necessary when they start contending. A stud. I’m starting to think that he may need a different partner. I don’t think his and Miller’s styles fit. I also think that Miller will take longer to develop than expected.
- So Trouba nails MacKinnon with a clean hit. And he has to answer the bell. I do not blame Landeskog for challenging him, I’d want our team’s captain to do the same. And he wins the fight. Name him your Captain already. We are all tired of this multiple As.
- So he answers the bell, alright. But why was their goon MacDermid allowed to chase your captain all over the ice? Gallant couldn’t make sure Reaves is on the ice next time MacDermid is there as well?
- They are playing again next week. I fully expect Ryan Reaves to be in MacDermid’s face early and often until he either fights him or becomes barely visible. I know, the points. Except they are OK with points at the moment. Sometimes you do what you need to do to send the message to other teams and worry about points later. Yeah, I’m an old school. But I also fully expect our boys to play much, much better all around game against them. They can handle Colorado this year.
- I liked Gallant’s reaction to this game. He was barking at the officials, not his players.
- This team has ways to go. But some things are in place already in order to contend. One of them is they have a fourth line in place in order to win the Cup. With Rooney and Goodrow contributing heavily on PK. If they fill the holes sufficiently to let them keep Goodrow there, watch out!

Actually this is exactly what you are paying for with Trouba a lot of money for; we haven’t seen this level of his game yet so let’s hope he keeps it up.
Miller is not the answer; his inability to play the body at any point is a problem when you are 6’5″ 210 lbs. or 5’10” 175 lbs. The problem with forwards who turn into Dmen is they still think they are forwards…
Good morning! I’m wondering if I can write the game review of the Coyotes game next week. I’ll be there with my father.

You forgot to critique my goaltending observation? Cotton Candy Crew is what I have always labeled them, I am well aware they no longer fit that MO. On Byfield and Lafreniere I said may have been not was. But you’re points are well taken.
Prior to last night’s game, Carp Tweeted out that it was silly to think that Georgiev couldn’t handle back to back starts and so he questioned going with Huska. My guess is they knew this was going to be a tough one and they wanted to protect Georgiev as well as his trade value.
Trouba=Beast
Relieved to see that some of yiz have visited Lenscratfers and corrected your prescriptions to finally see just how godawful Miller really is back here. Showcasing him, if that’s what they’re doing, ain’t gonna cut it.
SalmonJoe scaredy cats to point out major faux pas when they come from #23. Despite their fawning eulogizing, he’s not in the Hall yet!
Despite it all, I LOVE this team! Nothing’s ever gonna be perfect.
I removed your first and last name, Scottsdale. And, yes, we’d love you to write a review. I believe you did one a few years ago. Do you remember when?
Is Scottsdale that Billionaire’s son? If so, mazel tov! 🙂
LOL@Lenscrafters!
There was something else you said last night that I was laughing my MZA off while scrolling through the thread this morning, Coos. Don’t remember now…
Didn’t Kane get into a fight (and ultimately felony indicted) for pummeling a cabbbie who he claimed owed him 16 cents?
* whom
Overall Miller has been fine…. Few bad games..last night being one but 21 year old Dmen playing 20 minutes per night are gonna make mistakes ….need to look at the long game here especially with a 6 4 Dman that can skate
I’ve been tough on Nils
Last night even without the goal it was his best game.
Most impressed with the D zone play where he protected the puck and showed escapability
Also, his wheels to catch up on the back check on an odd man rush was very good
The twelve clowns exiting a Volkswagen at a wedding comment….
Gap control was a major team issue last night
The whole corps (except Trouba) seemed to give up ice from the top of the circles to the dots
Not their usual recipe
Also, the Trouba hit was amazing because it took out their two best players for an extended time
Mckinnon for concussion check (glad he was able to come back but not sure they should have let him play in blowout)
And landeskog in the box for 7 min
2 for 1
Didn’t love the idea of taking a pass on the game, and playing Huska. Ride Georgiev He was the best chance at winning that game.
Love ya Bobby, but… What’s 6’4 got to do with anything?
As Casey Stengel said about two 20 year old prospects coming up for the Yankees, ‘In ten years, one of them’s got a chance to be a pretty good player. The other one, in ten years, has a chance to be thirty.’
Tough to say anything about Huska. He is big, and he can move. That’s about it. Not the game to evaluate what he has.
Hard to imagine that classy Hank was once a business partner with Avery.
Bad reads by forwards and D on forecheck left the middle wide open. Seems like the coaches wanted them To play tighter with Huska Huska Burning Love in net but the forwards could not solve the Avs interference picks and passes up the side boards.
.
Games against good teams expose gaps in your roster. At ES Flip Flop and Meeka were passengers with the best view in the house watching Avs skate by them.
.
They really didn’t have their legs but the ‘tired’ excuse of them being ‘tired’ is a little tiring. Avs were starting week 2 of a road trip.
.
Shesty Morgan is supposedly going to come off IR today or tomorrow but hard to believe he is jumping right back in the fray until practicing with Benoit balls.
‘Tired’ my ample arse! Only time I ever got ‘tired’ in my twenties was when I changed wheels on my XKE. Suck it up!
He will learn to use his size Coos….he’s 21 and can fly ….again need to look long term here. Do you want to send him to Hartford and bring up another young Dman and feed him too many minutes?
Give it up bobby. You’re blind as well as naive.
I don’t even want him in HARTFORD!
He’d be third pair D at Wisconsin (where he should now be) if he even made the team.
Let the kids have the Olympics back. No more millionaire fat cat participants!
I guess I’m just being too hard on Zibanejad and Chytil my humble apologies for not recognizing what they bring to the ice game in game out.
St Pete:
I’m totally fine with your goaltending observation. A solid backup is needed, as She’s Twerkin tends to be prone to injury.
GeorgieSieve ($2.5 million) is not the answer. Nor is bringing up an AHL guy.
Trouba played this way with the jets (not Trouba tricks every night but similar) and he’s had a bit of a running feud with the avs for quite a while since a hit on laine that was similar to his on McKinnon (iirc he had the same response landeskog did as well).
He’s one of the best right handed two way d men in the league (I’ve stated since day 1), he’s the best choice for captain (I’ve stated since day 1), and he’s never had the best “style” of partner for his game since he’s been here (also stated this numerous times). For Trouba to be at his best he needs to be the “up the ice guy” of his pair with a more defencive minded partner.
Maybe The Hedgehog would consider taking back Georgiev with him to the Habs.
Admiral
That would be great but I don’t see the Hedgehog doing us any favors.
We still need a viable backup
I’m not worried about laffo busto in the least. The kid has the moxie and the hockey IQ to be more than fine at the nhl level.
Draft picks are just nhl players once they get to the league, doesn’t matter where they were picked. Teams want higher Ickes because the odds are better they contribute somehow at the nhl level.
At this point, most complaints about Lafrenière seem very one dimensional and in the case of some here, retaliatory in nature since puffy chytos is not anywhere close to the lofty hall of fame expectations a few have incorrectly put on him.
Laffo busto, has what it takes in the important areas to be a successful nhl player, the offence will come but it’s not a concern in the least at this point.
Coos..dont forget handsome!
and handsome!
There’s going to be a time when the bangers need to be spread out a bit again and kakko really needs to be on the 3rd line with Kreider (or Goodrow) on the right of the Zamboni line. Don’t get me wrong, hunt is more effective than any of the dregs that spent consistent time in that spot previously for the rangers. I just think more “weight” might be needed.
An outside the organization acquisition is also a possibility obviously.
went to my first game in 21 months. so was sorry to see huska in goal.
still great to get out
Had Proposed previously; Fox-Miller, Tuba-Lindgren pairings may make more sense from a styles perspective. The Tuba partner alternative is really not on the roster now. Are we back to the McD needs a better partner convos? I would like to see Tinordi get some run there (ducks)
.
This roster is still fluid; wonder who Dreary is targeting for upgrades; lots of cap space to add in Spring for one and doners.
.
Avs lineup is very good upfront but you have to wonder about D and netminder incentive playoffs come round.
.
Nils falling down after scoring was too much. Did Lias teach him that move. Nice kid but make sure the paper reaches all the way to the door!
I’ve stayed out of the miller debate for the most part despite it being my fault (since I was the one who first mentioned his play being an awful lot like staal early last season). Reality is somewhere in between the two extremes posted about him here consistently.
He’s ok and relatively new to the position of defence. His mobility is pretty good and his long reach does benefit him.
Problem is that reach is used as a crutch by him as he is out of position a lot and relys in his athleticism and reach to try to bail him out of bad situations he’s put himself into due to lack of hockey awareness and overall understanding of the position at any level. (That athleticism will be enough when you are “the” athlete at your level, but when you are just “a” athlete at your level, you’re in trouble).
Personally, (said this last season too) I’d move on from him. I think both Robertson and Schneider are better suited for the nhl than he and nils are. I’d have both of them up as well as trade for a vet D. Along with Tinordi, that would give you 8 deep on D which is the minimum a team will need going into the post season.
Well, until that loss last night which cost them the playoffs and doomed them to a century of despair 🙄
Troobuh sux.
I kid! I kid! He’s been great! This is the advertised Trouba we’ve heard about. Good for him… and us.
So, YO! Who gets the tickets?! Me again?! Well, thank you!! 😊
I’ll say this about the brunch crowd…they’re hilarious. I don’t know which aspect of their whining is funnier to me..the constant crying about players like buch or Beverly who are no longer here or the one loss, end of the world, only wins against certain teams count, the game is played on paper approach.
Mimosa me toast to the whiny (and Ridiculously hilarious) brunch crowd!!!!
☕️
So is Gallant the reason for the real Trouba unleashed?
I think a certain someone keeps winning the tickets via post game previous thread post edits 😉
Well done, I can’t believe I didn’t think of that!
Fifth loss in regulation in 25 games
“He’s ok and relatively new to the position of defence. ” ? What’s he doing center stage Madison Square Garden? Play Pee Wee Herman. ‘He’s new and he’s learning. Give him a couple years.’
And without their #1 goalie and a top 9 forward out for the year.
It’s time for the Rangers to move on from Chytil.
Coos
You’re asking the wrong group of people here…you should call msg and ask.
#CP – your tickets are for the Kiev Railroad, in uniform.
A even less popular take, they also need to move on from Gauthier.
Bdl
It’s been time for 3 seasons now. Another hedgehog dark years problem.
You’re right, Wick. Therein lies the problem, not here.
Miller for me, has gone from pretty much untouchable, to I’d move in the right deal. If the right deal is not there, I’d remain patient with him.
Bdl
He’s only in the lineup because of the Blais injury.
They don’t want to admit they made a major error. Hope is not a plan.
Wicky,
I know, but he’s gotten a long look. Just not enough production. I think it’s time to give Barron the same long look.
I’d move on from him and nils as well. It’s a lot harder to find defencively responsible two way d men in today’s nhl than it is to find one trick ponies…and you don’t win the cup with one trick ponies.
‘untouchable?’ Why? When? A kid who was mediocre at Wisconsin and left early. Who’s the dildo scout who came up with him?
Bdl
My opinion only but Barron and hunt should have been up from day one, they outplayed krapsoft and gauthier in the preseason.
Miller in line for the Elliot Ness Trophy.
Coos
Arise, you mighty motherland,
Arise for Sacred War
To crush the evil woke hordes,
Unite and drive them back.
I agree on Nils. He actually grown on me a bit. It’s just that he does not offer anything they don’t already have. Schneider would make so much more sense. Robertson too.
My “untouchable” list on the rangers has always very different I guess from a lot of people’s…he was never on mine.
Elliot ness trophy…brilliant
Coos,
Believe me, I see what you are seeing. I’m often yelling at the TV, and at Miller. What the heck are you doing?!!
I know you won’t agree with this, but to me there is just to much talent and potential to give up on. I’d trade him in the right deal, but I’m not giving up on him.
Goat Boy is a placeholder; can’t finish little hockey sense. If Henk Jr and Less Filling Miller are traded, what will NYR have from the McD/Miller trade? Only dreams of Selma Hayek…
.
Flip Flop is trade fodder; maybe Melon Head will take him up north? Another 5 seasons and he is poised for a break out!!
One last one from me,
The more o watch Lafrenière, the more I think he should be a center.
Miller should have sent O’Connor into the 5th row as he was flying across the rink with a full head of steam bearing down on the skater who had his head down.
I obviously like Miller more than many here based on age, size and potential but if they do move on from him, who is veteran Dman they are bringing in or targeting?
‘talent and potential?’ Who on the Iona Prep hockey team doesn’t have talent and potential? Talent and potential are hanging out on every street corner. I want unique ability and production on MSG ice, not talent and potential!
Bobby Orr.
We beat Iona Prep hockey frequently when i was young
You were young, big, and loaded with potential then. It’s all over now, Baby Blue 🙂
Or maybe just loaded. Ever stop at the Beechmont?
There you go, BDL! Same here. I believe I mentioned some time ago Lafreniere’s game is well suited for center. Better than Kakko. And better than Chytil.
nah… city guy back then
Laffy’s enthusiasm and chit – eating grin and Reaves’ hits worth the price of admission.
Pete – laffy might have carried the play in juniors creating his opportunities but juniors are juniors and apples are apples. In the NHL, it’s the center that drives the play and Chesdle, aka the black hole, in incapable of doing so. He’s a puck hog and a bad one at that. His shot % might be lowest in the team for those that have scored.
I know you love the guy but he’s so bad that his line is actually the 4th line in rotation and I wager it’s largely due to him. Laffy is at least hitting and being active. Chesdle’s idea of a body check is to get near his opponent and touch him gently, ever so gently….
Quick question. Should we give it another try with tickets tomorrow or should they go to charity? If someone wins it and I email the tickets Saturday (people get it immediately), they can still go Sunday. Unless they live far away.
Ever stop at Dorrians Red Hand, UES? Robert Chambers, big, fast, and loaded with potential those days B4 he murdered that little girl.
Charity
Sweet Charity.
I’ve lost patience with Miller as well. I think he has decent trade value, especially for a team that’s a year or two away. Yes Coos. You told us so. Countless times! Lol.
Trouba deserves a responsible, reliable, steady partner right now.
Miller looked like a turnstile last night
Not that last night has been much different than other nights
Quite an unusual thing – a relatively intimate Blog giving away valuable Ranger tickets to relatively talentless clairvoyants on and off throughout the season.. Bravo
Getting rid of cheadle and Miller and even getting nothing in return makes the team better.
‘turnstile,’ lol.
I think Reaves should throw Miller’s sweatsuit into the running showers.
It’s never a patience thing with me. It’s pretty easy to tell early on the guys that have the fortitude and hockey iq to be nhl players and those that don’t.
Speed, YouTube highlights, and “potential” don’t mean squat at the nhl level if they don’t have the the fortitude and IQ to implement them at the nhl level.
Chytil all over the place, never finishes a check, can’t find the net. Like a swift, ineffectual Roadrunner.
Fortitude and IQ – underrated qualities.
Spent more than a couple of nights at Dorrian’s during the late 80s/early 90s; a bud grew up nearby and knew Jack D.
I agree, give tickets to charity.
Replace/Trade/Demote:
Goat Boy
Flip Flop
Henk Jr
Miller Lite
Boy George
Just ran through my mind- Gordie Howe on being asked why he wore a Cup but not a helmet: “You can always hire someone to do your thinking for you.” Top ten all time! 🙂
give the tickets to Miller…apparently he will be watching soon
Post season roster will feature at least one or two players who are currently in Hartford and at least two additions via trade.
Obviously, there will be subtractions as well.
I’m going to avoid commenting on any multiplication. Plenty of healthy division right here, especially after a loss. But I digress.
Had a feeling you were a rich kid, SN. 🙂
For both Blackhawk games I had the Chicago feed and Eddie O lambasted Miller again again and again
Charity? Well meaning for sure. Find a good one that actually gets the money to the right places.
Sorry, but most are scams. There are more than 1.4 million charities in the United States. That’s more than one charity for every 300 people (from 2009)
He was a rich kid; I earned mine 😉
For some reason, Dave M. doesn’t tell the ugly truth as often as he used to, but he occasionally lapses and is brutal and hilarious.
Maloney usually shoots straight on radio. Probably something to the hypothesis that MSG wants the rose colored view during game broadcasts.
Move Miller to RW and see what happens could he be any worse than Gauthier, coos?
SN – Speaking of bogus charities, a kid from Harvard, friend of my daughter’s, upon graduation told her that he was planning to start some kind or other of not-for-profit, for profit. Go figure.
SN- I have a good idea which charities are good and which are pure scams. Trouble is that even some “good” charities have a very poor program expense ratio despite being legit and well known. I know how to navigate it though.
Miller, if he sticks in this League, is probably a forward.
Mentioned the same in a game thread about Laf may be better at center. The counter argument though is that it just appears that way because he is playing with a poor center. Even GoatBoy has done a better job of distributing the puck.
Most agree Chytil should be tried on the wing but suspect Drury believes that will tank any trade value he has left.
What happened to this world, or was it always this corrupt and we just didn’t notice?
Can understand Miller not having the defensive IQ as that of a kid who played it his whole life. The lack of physical play though is something that should have been corrected by now. NHL camps are not very long so maybe it is somewhat akin to endemic poor tackling in NFL as a result of short camps and ‘no contact’ drills.
Or maybe he just isn’t that type of guy. Drury needs to figure that out prior to doing any bridge deal.
Riddle me this what trade value does Chytil actually have?
Plumbers in the house all day so I’m hiding out in the den swamping y’all with scattershot Posts. Sorry. 🙂
Valliquette would probably be a good analyst, but may be too honest to get a shot.
Coos’ plumbing backed up after that game last night is no coincidence.
Georgie wasn’t super busy in the Chicago game but he is also the only one out there for 60 minutes and then hopping a red eye back.
Surprised they didn’t just overnight in Chicago and fly back mid morning. Skip practice and do a quick pre-game skate.
Dolan has torpedoed ‘disrespectful’ Knick talking heads. I think he pays less attention to hockey, but they nervously toe the line anyway. I think Duguay got the Dolan boot.
Minx he’s a ‘center’ and those are hard to find, right? I’m sure some other team might feel they can turn him into gold, though I don’t think we do trades with any of the Euro leagues 😉
That little jerk who has been doing the Pidto thing has to go! What an annoying little twit.
Ilb – perhaps modify the contest given the short turnaround to assure a winner?
1. Winner of Game
2. Closest to NYR goal total
3. Closest to total goals scored
4. GWG
5. time of submission
I’m on the can
That’s what Warhol said when they asked how far along he was.
Beezle
I agree that some brilliant GM might take Chytil, the return is what I was referring to in referencing his trade value.
I have an idea. Let’s make the contest real, real convoluted so that ilb has to spend another two or three hours figuring out who won and where to send his tickets.
So Miller, Laffy, Chytil are not adequate or developing fast enough so we are moving them to other positions, some for the first time…in the best hockey league in the world… to accelerate things….Got it!
BTW, no objection if the Boneheads want to submit scores, etc. to keep it all interesting.
Coos
It’s people, and a lot of people suck because they are more concerned about themselves than the greater good.
Edzo has always seemed like a ranger supporter in all his broadcasts regardless of the network.
Anyone who bets on horses is okay in my book.
…uh…Warhol – Campbell’s Soup Can.
I think of all the things that the rangers didn’t do well last night, the most egregious to me was the lack of teammate support from puffy chytos during the Trouba/mcdermid scrum. He looked like fast/Stepan in a scrum…just kind of in the area not grabbing anyone while everyone else is involved and someone having to deal with a 2 vs 1.
Hell, Miller even grabbed a guy.
That tells you a lot about a player and character.
Miller no help whatsoever; Just went through the motions.
Large as Chytil is, he sure bounces off people real easy like.
I hope Drury reads the blog.
Dury busy ordering Mozzarel.
Or…….ILB could just go to the game on Sunday.
I’d like to see the numbers on Georgiev when he’s gone a third straight start. I am almost certain his save % is under .900.
Statement game by a Western powerhouse trying to get their house in order.
Rangers need some goalie depth if they’re going to make runs in the post season.
We all know the weak links on this team by now.
James
I certainly hope our GM knows the weak links as well?
Dallas has 4 goalies in case the Rangers need to get another one.
Tym
Yep, mentioned that the other day…bishop back at some point, otter, the bruins back up, and lololtby.
Bishop would be great depth. Going to be a lot of teams looking for an insurance goalie at the deadline
Personally I think Nemeth should play with Trouba for a while and see what results they get.
Only problem is you can’t have Nils with Miller. Or Tinordi with either consistently.
I’m not eager to split up Fox/Lindgren but Trouba/Lindgren would be a line forwards would not like to play against.
Last season was an somewhat of an anomaly but the 2 ECF finalists are at the bottom of the conference standing (along with the Sens who lost to this same Avs team 6-5 last week…)
.
The high sticking penalty on Lindgren last night was the straw that broke the camel’s back; not that the final result was in doubt; but required all hands on deck and no PK time.
.
James hates Tinordi
Isles are a trapping team that had a lot of success as a result.
Looking past the “oh da pain” stuff from Rangers fans, the reality of it is that they’re an older team. They do not have scoring depth and they have a ton of bad contracts or contracts that WILL be bad in the near future.
They’re probably still capable of getting it together and going on a tear. But they have issues just like every other team.
LOL, SN I like Tinordi I just wish he had played better to this point
James: Not a really large sample as HL was in front of him in 17/18 and 18/19. 2019/20: LWWL, WLW, WWL 2017/18: WWL, LWL
Kinkaid up, Kegger re-instated, Barron and Huska on Greyhound.
Ok McKegg is back that’s a relief things should improve now for sure lol!
She’s a kinky kinda of girl – the kind you don’t bring home to mother
What are his numbers in those games and last year Beez ?
Reuben will solidify things
Maybe the Big Easy will take Miller back in a hockey trade to Columbus. Big Easy seemed to really love him—touting him as this big, mobile, tough defenseman. Please.
Hedgehog should take Georgiev — Hedgehog is the one who signed the Sieve to $2.5 million contract.
Ryan Reaves on why he can never find a dance partner.
I could be wrong here but I think Drury will stand pat and see how this plays out through Dec. and possibly Jan. before making any moves. They are winning more than losing for now, but they do have holes that need to be filled if they want to contend.
https://www.tsn.ca/tsn-hockey-trade-bait-ben-chiarot-1.1731949
Minx – I tend to agree. Think he’ll be looking to do something before the big break. Actually, when is the trade deadline this season?
James – those are the only times Georgie has played three or more games in a row. Ironically, when he was at his sharpest he was behind Hank so was in like every six games or so depending back to backs.
NHL Trade Deadline-March 21st, 2022.
E3, i dont love Chytil as a player, think he has always been a long shot to make it, especially here. But what i just find frustrating is that he is the whipping boy that if we just replaced all would be perfect. Laf and everyone else would suddenly play better be!
Take last night, our top two lines were largely invisible, while Chytil has a goal and an assist and the loudest refrain here is they need to replace Chytil. By all means they should do so if they find a deal that makes sense, but that’s not gonna fix Mika and wouldn’t have made Panarin or strome play better last night.
And elite wingers can drive play just as much as centers, like Panarin (most of the time). Not saying Laf can’t get there, but he’s not close yet, regardless of who he is playing with
So they called Darius up?
Darius is the best
Pete
I said earlier that Chytil and Zibanejad are the problem down the middle. Unfortunately we are stuck with the DJ.
not for nothing strome was a minus 4 last night, had no points and was 22% on faceoffs. So not exactly a solution either
Center position is definitely an issue to solve for the GM?
Bevilo tutto, bevilo tutto, bevilo tutto!
This man killled a 150 people! 250, easily
Really?
We are wringing our hands over the one loss we had this past month?
I was, unfortunately, at the game. They were tired. Physically and mentally. It was obvious in the first period. I was amazed they were winning at the first intermission. Huska at times looked ok with good positioning and anticipated some plays but he was just not ready for the intensity of Colorado’s attack. That team can shoot the puck!
I’d bet GG took the loss like the team, disappointed but nothing to get riled up about. Im sure he was tired too.
The team will learn a lesson and be ready to get back at tomorrow at Buffalo.
Fishsticks go down again at home, this time to a goal by Nashville with 11 seconds left.
Rangers have more cap space this year than most probable playoff teams…if he’s going after rentals then he has leverage to make moves sooner
WOO HOO!
JD and Gorton didn’t think Dolan paid much attention to hockey either. Look what it got them. Well at least they had to move and Gorton had to subscribe to Rosetta Stone. Maybe Maloney took note and toned it down a bit. Dolan ran off Marv Albert for telling the truth that the Knicks sucked. No one is safe.
Oh my, the potato farmers are still looking to win in the new barn.
Isles lose again my heart breaks for their fans. If this continues and I hope it does they may have nothing to look forward to. Of course there are always those game 7’s against the Blueshirts? Oh yes and those ping pong balls!
Igor not skating with the team. Not a good sign?
Pete,
First off, don’t ever stop posting here. We need more people here who see the game different then the rest of us.
Do you watch Strome play with Panarin, and think Chytil could do that? Because I do not. There is not a bigger role for Chytil to have here. The Rangers need somebody in the 3c spot, who fits the 3c spot.
At the moment, no. Ever..maybe, but think he is more in the Mika mold of player anyways.
Thing about Panarin though is that i think he’d eventually make it work with whatever center he plays with over time, just need a good complimentary wing. For as much an issue as the third line is (and in my opinion all three players on that line currently have problems and would definitely move on from Gauthier), i’m still not sure what either of our top 2 lines are really, which is why we need to see more games against playoff teams (especially in the eastern conference). It’s a weird schedule this year though, so will be awhile before we even play the Canes for the first time or Caps again (colorado, vegas and florida teams are upcoming tests)
I wonder what Zibanejad’s numbers would look like if Drury hadn’t given him that 8×8.5 contract?
The coaching staff has squeezed a lot out of this roster so far. We are just under a third of the way through and you wonder if Dreary & Co start making personnel upgrades in areas of weakness, more likely in January, but Olympic break throws a wrench into the timing of any moves.
The hope this season was the vets would perform better, the additions would provide much needed depth, a healthy Shesty would play like a #1 and the yutes would begin to step up to spread out production. 1 and 2 are happening, 3 is not healthy again and the impact of the yutes has been mixed at best.
In fact if you look at OTBG picks outside of Kakko and Laffy, they are not adding much to the equation. Thankfully Fox grew up a Ranger fan…
“ Thankfully Fox grew up a Ranger fan…”
/\/\ this is the best line all morning – Thanks, SN!
Fox’s ardent fervor for the Rangers as a youth has certainly plastered over years of poor/unlucky drafting.
Fox is a generational talent
And I don’t use that overused term lightly
Things have changed since I started following hockey. It used to be that the best the Rangers could do out of the NY area was Nick Fotiu. Now they have a Norris Trophy winner. Hockey has come a long way in the metro area.
Ha ha – great point, ORF.
Another example of NY hockey is Brian Mullen (and of course, Joe) from “Hell’s Kitchen” as Sam always used to remind us. 😉
What everyone likes to seemingly gloss over in the anti-strome campaign on a constant basis are two very factual things….
1) Panarin, while without a doubt could put up points with about any player, has never put up as many as he has with strome nor has he produced them at as high a rate as he does with strome..
And he has played on lines for seasons with other organizations that his linemates would be considered far superior players to strome by all of us.
The chemistry is real whether folks want to acknowledge it or not.
2) strome has shown he can score and contribute on his own for the rangers without Panarin.
Stromeo > Meeka; what was Dreary thinking?
Year 1 6.68%
Year 2 7.03%
Current year 6.37%
All 3 years here (including the current one) Panarin scores at an elite rate with a revolving door of meh players (for the most part) on his opposite wing the first and second year here, the constant of strome has certainly made Panarin a more productive player.
On lines with other more “high end” players than strome and players that we all consider more talented than strome such as Kane, Toews, PLD to name a few Panarin never had a higher scoring rate than 5.54%, which is not even an elite rate (it’s a solid first line rate).
The strome dynamic/chemistry is real whether folks want to admit it or not, with Panarin.
SN
My guess is for the same reason many folks here clamoured for Meeka to be re-signed during the summer before he was…the promise of a lot of supposed goals and fear of not finding another top 2 centre.
Unfortunately, a few folks here were seemingly right all along saying the team would be better off not locking Meeka up long term and keeping strome as one top 2 centre while acquiring another top 2 centre that was more of a solid two way guy with less “flashy” potential and win with solid depth not offencive “hope”.
Agree. Need to find a way to fit strome
Really hope Cap goes up with the TV deals soon
SN
He wasn’t thinking!
Wish it was a soft cap like in other professional sports
With luxury tax options
Or at least make the playing field even out with geographical tax/cost of living arbitrage.
Mika is Weaka!
I know I’m beating a dead horse but Drury should not have signed Perimeterjad and done everything under the sun to sign Danault.
Whatever else happens, Ryan Strome must be allowed to remain a NY Ranger (within reason).
His chemistry with Loaf is legitimate. He is a leader in the clubhouse. He has worked well with Panarin regardless of who is on RW: Fast, Kakko, Blackwell, Hunt, etc.
Just sign the guy.
Tinordi to pack for conditioning.
I want to see Morgan Barron get a nice long look at 3C
May take an injury to get there
Would be interested to see Chytil on the right of Kreider and Meeka
Kaako looked very good with Strome and Panerin before he switched lines
Then have Laffy Barron Hunt/Goat
Or put Kaako with Laffy and Barron and see what the kids can do together.
Is GeorgieSieve off the books next year or does he need to be traded/demoted?
He is overpaid
I hate that blais got hurt. But the silver lining if there is one is that he didn’t “produce” enough to make signing him to a cheap very difficult. And coming off injury no one is going to risk an expensive contract until he proves he can be healthy and productive. That’s good for our Cap situation with his new deal needing to get done.
GP, 629, G, 204
GP, 598, G, 194.
One is considered an elite goal scorer, one is not.
I said loudly and often don’t extend Strome or Zika until close to the trade deadline. Besides providing time to see what both would bring to the table this season, it allowed room for the unexpected. In this case, the Fox contract which I can guarantee Drury did not want to give out this year.
It also gave time to better figure out what they need going forward that they don’t already have now or in the system.
What’s done is done, Drury is going to look more like a pretzel than a pizza trying to get the team under the cap the next three or four seasons.
Here is Larry with his latest RR2 channeling 😃

Mika is gonna be fine…trust GG. If they didn’t extend Mika curious to see who you guys are thinking he would bring in and at what cost? Some big name Free agents available this off season but most are very old …. and most are gonna cost more than what Mika signed for
Zibanejad’s contract will haunt the Rangers more than Wahlstrom’s goal production?
I am an obvious Prophet? The Minx has Spoken!
Larry…..”Last year, Zibanejad had three goals through the first 27 games before kicking into gear with 21 goals in the final 29 games that included three hat tricks. Two years ago, Zibanejad went on that rampage in which he scored 29 goals in the final 34 games that included the five-goal extravaganza against the Caps.”
Larry = Coos?
Bobbyo
Moot point now, but you overpay in trade assets for the guy that plays a top 2 centre along with strome going forward.
Georgie is done this year. At the time the contract was made, Georgie was playing better on a worse team and was not an unreasonable security move given Igor had only played 12 games.
As to the ‘overpay’ it was small at best, order 500K and it was unlikely they were adding a known commodity as backup to Igor for under $2M.
Mika needs to begin scoring and he will. His timing seems off and after going 14 games without a goal, it’s not surprising that he’s gripping the stick a little too tight.
He looks like he’s trying to be a better 200 foot player. As I said last year and last summer, he’s never going to be a beast in the in front of the net and the corners, but he needs to be pushed out of his comfort zone and be more physical than he’s been. I believe that’s beginnng to happen. If Gallant can push him to use his frame and be a little tougher to play against, that would be a huge accomplishment. Let’s hope so because he’s not going anywhere.
Beezle – you’re right. Georgiev was better when that contract was tendered, and Shesterkin was no sure thing as a number one.
I don’t care how many goals Mika scores in bunches if he disappears in the playoffs he’s not worth the contract.
Cregg7:
Absolutely- I was thinking the same thing regarding Blais. This injury may make Blais more affordable next season. He’ll be a nice player to have moving forward, if at all possible.
St Pete –
Agreed about Mika. For all the hand-wringing about Strome proving he can produce in “meaningful games”, I’m more concerned about Mika. I hope that contract was not “premature”
WaTch Meeka score a hat trick vs Baby Buffs tonite.
Kakko has to stay on Meeka’s line as he is probably the best 5v5 forward on that line right now which is more a compliment to him than a dig on the others. Kid has very good spacing without the puck and smart on forecheck.
Putting Flip Flop on that line would be a del master of monumental proportions. Do agree that he is a winger and not a center though.
tomk19
I hope you’re right about Zibanejad.
More regarding Mika, and TomK picks up on this, is that Mika is playing a 200 ft game and while he’s not on the scoresheet as much as he should be, he is certainly contributing to the team’s cause.
But all that said — the guy is paid big money to produce offense.
St.Pete-11:59. 100%. Actually, at his cap hit, he needs to do both. Regular season and even more importantly, in the playoffs.
Mimosa me.
Kakko should be on the third line imho as the roster is currently constructed.
