Solid road win. I thought Zibanejad was awful for the first period and a half, and then turned it on. He was very good in the third.

    Panarin needs to get going.

I can see the Rangers having the blueprint for a very solid team.

Nice to see LaFrenchman get a goal in front of his family and homies. Maybe the kid will relax a little and get going.

Underrated part of Shesterkin game is his puck handling. He was great at it last night.

Shesterkin did what he is supposed to do as a #1 goalie make big saves, it’s a winning formula.

Montreal’s first home game in front of fans in a year and a half; they came out flying and NYR played very smart. This is not your freewheeling teams of the past few years doing whatever they want; GG is here to win.

Players like Bread and Meeka are going to get their points, but the focus is on winning by playing the right way. Not just ‘north-south’ but inside-out. Neutral zone play has been impressive.

Eye-gore did what he is supposed to do; he didn’t ‘steal’ the game, he made the saves he had to.

Henk’s son needs to catch his breath. These road games are going to be tough on him. Thought Joe Willie had a strong game.

Say Hey Sammy Blais had a very good game. While he has at least one, jump out of your chair hit each game, his puck possession is the best part of the his game.

If Crapsoft wasn’t such a wuss, he would be playing opposite Bread now. Jorma looked like it was whiplash (concussion) that happened on the second hit when he tried to extract some revenge.

I think Kakko hurt his shoulder when he went back to hit the montreal player who hit him 10 seconds before. When Kakko hit him it was shoulder to shoulder like hitting a wall.

Zibanejad was outstanding defensively last night. People don’t give him enough credit for that part of his game. Having said that, I wouldn’t want him to turn into Rick Nash.

Lundkvist may cost them a game if he doesn’t stop overthinking it. I’m afraid so may Tinordi. He looked better in preseason. Schneider anyone?

you could make a case for replacing every defenseman not named Fox and Lindgren, but don’t think Tinordi is the answer for any of them. Would play Hajek before him.

My guess is they give Nils a couple more games before sending him down, with Jones likely being next man up there (but again may just play Hajek first)

  16. James G Avatar

This is what I was saying during camp debates.
You don’t need a dynamic offensive dman who can’t handle his zone on the third pair- especially this time of the year.
You need stability. Low key. Smart/Simple game guys that can handle their zone.
new system, lots of new faces, two goalies that need as much support as possible.
I understand that bugs the heck out of special team enthusiasts but this team will be ok even without the unicorn (pp qb)

  17. CraigWeather Avatar
    CraigWeather

Miller has been force-fed to us bc of a nice pre-season/first few games last year. Ever since, he’s done nothing to warrant a spot.

While I want Schneider long term, I still think a little seasoning in the A is what he needs.

I agree that Jones is the logical call up for Nils. But man, I’m getting sick of Miller trying to be overly cute with the puck in both ends of the ice.

  18. Admiral Akbar Avatar
    Admiral Akbar

Schneider needs to marinate more in Hartford, ilb. Once ready, he possesses exactly the skill set and style of game this team needs now. No need to rush him in October.

Jones would be the best choice to replace Nils.

  19. Admiral Akbar Avatar

    Fishsticks:

Chara is finished. Dobson continues to be overrated in my opinion. Don’t like that pairing at all. I’d bring in Mayfield for one of them.

Secondly, it was nice to see Gudas get in the smug face of Anders Lee. I wish the Rangers would do the same—Rangers play Lee with too much respect and admiration, allowing him to get to the crease and set up table and chairs and brew some tea and crumpets.

I’m not convinced they need to replace Lundkvist with another smallish, offense oriented D. I think they need someone who plays nasty third pair minutes, someone who can get a few penalties for cross-checking and elbowing to play along Nemeth. I think Fox and Trouba can handle PP just fine.

  23. St Pete Eli Avatar
    St Pete Eli

No luck Krakko the guy needs a break. The moment he starts showing signs of #2 overall he gets sick or injured.

  24. Pete Avatar
    Pete

James, Nils certainly has struggled to adjust in his 2 career NHL games to date, but so has sophomore Miller, veteran Nemeth and to an extent now veteran Trouba. Don’t even get me started on Tinordi.

So if Nils isn’t ready they should send him down, but that doesn’t address the 2nd pair being a leaky faucet and Nemeth just be blasé

  25. CraigWeather Avatar
    CraigWeather

Maybe so, ilb…. But who would that be? Can’t be Schneider just yet. We don’t need to rush him.

  26. ilb2001 Avatar
    ilb2001

Tinordi would fit that position perfectly, but after two games he’s yet to convince people he is an NHL player. He was much better in preseason.

I’d give Nils 5-10 games before considering taking him out.

Imagine what crapsoff would be if he would have taken his demotion like a man instead of a petulant child.

  35. Admiral Akbar Avatar

Reportedly, the Rangers are trying to convince Crapsoft to come back.

Ilb, it’s not just the 1st game re Tinordi. He just isn’t a good defenseman and very telling he has been in the league for 7 years, played for 5 team, but only played 103 actual games.

Maybe people still want to believe his dad’s genes will shine through eventually or they are doing him a favor (like Jack Johnson, albeit very different circumstances), but amazing he is still in the league

It’s the byproduct of doing impulsive things that make you put your foot in your mouth admiral

That’s what is preventing kravtsov from doing just that.

It’s also a mental block and the kid should just report and he’d be back up here in 3 weeks

  38. Beezle Avatar
    Beezle

If they make a near term change on 3rd pair it should be to put in Selma who has experience and is reasonably big at 6-3 205ish (certainly compared to Jones). Can’t hurt his trade value at this point either.

Agree on Dwayne Schneider – let him get his minutes in below and see how things shake out after the trade deadline. NYR have been rushing some of the kids and don’t think we are in that much need to call him up now. He’ll be here soon enough.

  39. Beezle Avatar
    Beezle

During the game I tried to watch Chytil more carefully. In the first period he seemed a bit more involved on boards and in front. Got pounded a bit and as game continued he was less involved. On a few shifts in the third he was just skating around completely away from the play.

The only future I see for him as a centerman is if his wingers are willing to do most of the dirty work.

  40. St Pete Eli Avatar
    St Pete Eli

Simply put the Rangers still need a major improvement at 3c. I think Chytil is going to score goals at this level not convinced it’s with the Rangers.

    Minx –

There is probably organizational pressure so GG will leave Chytil at 2C until Stromeo is back in, probably midweek? After that, swap Goodrow and Chytil positions and the line and team will be better.

The NHL is not a developmental league. Nils does not look like he belongs at this point. And him down to play 20+ minutes a game. Let him get used to the smaller ice surface. Call up Bitteto. The number of D men that don’t spend some time in the AHL before playing in the NHL is very low. 20/30 games won’t hurt him. It will help him.

  44. SN Avatar
    SN

Ironically, now is when they needed the pro ready 3C in Lisa the medal thrower.

Selma definitely makes the most sense on 3rd pair. The paper boy needs to go back to his route in Sweden.

Miller should be fine, playing big important minutes against top lines gets you exposed just like Tuba does.

Chytil is a soft Euro winger forced to play center which he does quite poorly.

Nils has trouble with the simplest of plays…..how many times in two games has he whiffed trying to make a simple pass? Against the stars on their first goal he was spun around like a top by a rookie playing in his first game. Color me not impressed. He is in way over his head. And I’d send him down yesterday.

Kravtsov situation reminds me of a story when I was 12. Family trying to win me roller blades “down the shore” on one of those wheel games on the boardwalk. My mother switches the number she’s playing (I object, you don’t change numbers) and, of course, the old one comes out. I basically throw a mini tantrum and walk half a block away. New number comes out on the next spin, and they win them. Family calls me back and have to do the walk of shame to pick out my prize.

Kravtsov should do the walk of shame.

they have no RW depth anymore even with a healthy kakko. Say all you want about Goodrow doing the little things (hasn’t stood out to me yet, but no rush), however he has not looked like a top 6 player thus far.

    If so That’s ridiculous.
Putting him on Panarins line is no different than having Fast or Blackwell or any other bottom six guy on that line the last couple of seasons. It’s to provide a pick retriever/ board battler.

43 years of a press pass coverage at the Garden, all crammed into a 26 year old body. Sounds like a dream job, if not for the 1 hour deadline for the Ranger Report. That’s a dream job for most of us.

Barron gets the call up, I hope we get to see him play tonight. Another player that I liked more than KRAPsov.

Ricardo – stop by and I’ll regale you with stories about Torts and his tiny car seat while sitting on the can.

Mike Hunt – Red Barron – Reavo is a solid 4th line for tonight but given that Kegger didn’t have a bad game vs the Hab nots……

When I was a little kid, Willie Mays lived in a mansion in my neighborhood. For some reason, he had no grass , just dirt for years. Still haven’t figured that out.

Drury better not give up Whinesoft for nothing. He has the upper hand here if Whinesoft ever wants to play in the NHL correct?
