Good morning, boneheads!
Just when you think you ran out of words to praise Fox he forces you to find more…Wow!
I’m sure Trouba haters will concentrate on the OT, but how good was Trouba last night? Glimpses of why they signed him long term. I’m starting to think Gallant will recognize how (and with which partner) he should be deployed soon. OT and chasing speedsters may not be the best option.
Their bottom 6 outplayed their top 6 two games in a row. Even though some of their top 6 improved in 24 hours, the bangers played even better. Interesting how physicality leads to extended puck possession. They will start winning once their top 6 catches up and becomes as effective as their “bottom” guys. In what they are supposed to do, that is.

Wow. Carp blaming Nemeth for Nils being horrible. Or just omitting any mention of his nervous mishandles outside of the goal that he says was Nemeths bad pass.
Gifting nils A spot in the lineup for the rest of the year. Why does he have such a hard on for Nils. Call a spade a spade. Nils had a brutal debut. I root for the kid. But carp giving him a pass is weird.
Tinordi had one bad shift with a couple giveaways in the middle in his debut.
But…that’s enough to “never happen again” having him play over a kid who needs some AHL time to get some confidence.
I’m speechless!
No substitute for hard work. While Fox has an elite skill set with the way he can maintain possession using a series of dips and dekes, most importantly, his feet are always moving!
Allowing 1 even strength goal per game is a recipe for success.
The Hunt is afoot! He and the 4th line had a great game, possession machine.
Still a few guys not buying in. Need them all. It was his first game, and Joe Willie hung him out to dry on the first goal, but Nils looked like he was in over his head.
cregg, not gonna say Nils had a good game at all, but wasn’t a great pass or defending by Nemeth on that goal, and Tinordi has been that bad a defenseman for basically his whole career, it doesn’t get better.
Fine giving Nils 10 games or so and if not ready go to Jones or someone else.
Much more focused on slow starts of Mika, Panarin, Strome, Laf and Goodrow than Nils
Pete,
The question is, do they really need Nils? Played 2 ho hum minutes on PP 2, and was a complete non factor at even strength. First game nerves, sure, but overall, not impressed.
Meeka and Panarin, yes. Strome has been good, so has Lafrenière, and Goodrow is as advertised. If you are looking for goals from Goodrow, you are going to be disappointed most nights.
As far as going to Jones, which they will do if it comes to that, that would be of the same. Go get a veteran D man, or call up Schneider.
I wonder how the presence of Buchnevich would’ve helped last night?
It’s only one game—but Jones ahead of Nils?
Over the two games, we’ve seen extended glimpses of how they need to play in order to be successful.
I enjoyed the white jerseys at home.
Once Mika and Lanarin pick it up, so will the team.
As I said last: Fox —omg— even better than last season. Has this deft way of weaving away from close in defenders—like a slower, slinkier Matt Barzal (ducks)
BDL-to your question. They don’t really need Lundkvist or Jones. Especially the way Fox can recover and spend extended PP shifts ( remember, they had a guy who wore number 2 and could do the same ). But what they need to do is showcase either Jones or Lundkvist and include them in a trade to improve this team. Offensive oriented D’s are still a hot commodity.
I think in the long run, Nils is going to be better than Jones. I still think Jones is an NHL/AHL tweener. Having said that, Jones out played Nils in the preseason games. And in the end, I think Schneider is going to be way more valuable than either one.
Strome was awful 1st game and i’d say only a little better last night. Kakko has been playing the best on that line
Laf is doing the little things right, but has shown nothing offensively, that’s not great in my opinion
Goodrow isn’t going to score, but think he can do more offensively. Chytil has actually looked good to start, but his linemates haven’t shown much beyond ability to hit. Which is why I wanted a guy like kravtsov on that line to add at least another potential offensive outlet. that ship has seemingly sailed, but don’t think Gauthier will be the answer and TBD what Blais and Goodrow can do on that front
And they should have a good third pair and a 2nd pp QB in my opinion, so definitely see a role for Nils or Jones. Nemeth has looked just blah so far, which think is what he is
One game folks….Nils will be fine.
If Lafreniere was as good as advertised he’d already be as good as advertised?
Reaves penalty was a joke…basically penalized for hitting someone cleanly but too hard….resulted in Dallas goal. Gallant has to figure out his OT rotation and to with best puck handles ….. Kreids and Trouba not a fit there. Play Fox for 5 minutes and rotate Panarin, Mika, Strome, Kakko, Laffy
Pamarin and Mika have to start the OT. They were included in most OTs they won last year. No one told GG? OT is about possession and Kreider is not a possession guy. He shouldn’t be out fore OT. They are still establishing an identity,. Let’s give it 10 games to see if they can. Scorers got to score for them to be better.
Special teams have been bad in these two games. They will take a lot of penalties with more aggressive play. They will need a good PK.
I understand that players need to be put in position to succeed but when your $8 million dollars defenseman needs someone better than him defensively for that said defenseman to be good… oh, boy. Shouldn’t your $8 million dollars defenseman be that “other” guy?
But sure… get someone to play with Troobuh to get your money’s worth.
They had possession with Kreider on the ice in OT. It was Panarin who F up.
Short and sweet, ilb. A few small but important insights absolutely nailed.
Panarin had very similar giveaway in OT last year too.
Thank you BDL; right after Kreider maintained possession with a big hit in corner. That being said, I agree, that OT is for the dancers, not plumbers.
Frankly the whole exercise is just fake hockey BS. Play a 10 minute OT 4v4 and then go home with a tie if nobody scores
Must game Saturday?
It gets late early as yogi would say
Yogi: ‘We made too many wrong mistakes…’
Trouba didn’t make the mistake in OT, Zamboni did.
While it’s been pointed out, Trouba haters going to hate. There are plenty of high $$$$ d men that aren’t the best defencive guy on their pair.
Folks can cry about Trouba and the $8 mil as much as they want, but as his playing history shows, if the rangers want to maximize the $8 mil per for Trouba, he’s at his best being the offencive d man of the pair.
Either way, his troubooms and overall two way ability are more than worth the price of admission to me.
Bdl is spot on with the forwards and the not Q assessment. I think Schneider is a better option st this point.
So they should go with Kreider over Breadman in OT….got it
“When Panarin and Zibanejad decide to pick it up”
….well there’s your first indication of what’s wrong w this team.
THE and Reavo listed as same size except Kreider has an extra inch. Sure don’t look like similar sizes to the naked eye. You would never confuse the two from a distance.
For OT it should be Meeka, Bread, Stromeo, Laffy, Chytil and Kakko in that order IMHO.
Oh yeah, and Fox stays out the whole time…
Strome has a wrist/forearm injury which has already been discussed here, thankfully he isn’t an nhl hockey centre with that injury.
Despite a decent overall game one, he was garbage on draws but played fine. Game two was better and draws were also better (could have been matchup or injury getting better).
Strome is not the top two centre folks should be concerned with.
And fwiw, kakko is the biggest issue with that line at the moment but I think it’s just a familiarity thing, that line will be fine.
Laffy was very good in OT last year iirc, he should start it IMO.
Agree 100% with James, the problem with the team is FC1 and Zamboni…starts and stops there.
Foxy almost collapsed on the ice one time last night, hard time getting up. He’s durable and energetic, but can’t be Superman with so many uber extended shifts.
If you have trouble melting the ice with women, get a Zamboni.
Rangers name William Shatner and his wife oldest ever Alternate Captains.
the same Kakko who hit a post, drew a penalty with his hard work behind the net and screened the goalie on Fox’s goal?
Strome’s wrist could be bothering him still for sure, but was very sloppy with the puck in game 1 and as noted bad on draws.
Panarin has made some good passes here and there, but not close to his peak level yet, which will come without a doubt
Is that what I said BobbyO? No one is saying that. Sheesh.
Offense will start to click more once they take less penalties. Overall scoring has not been a problem the past two seasons.
Best thing Gallant can do if/when they practice the next few weeks is work on the PK and a little PP too.
Troobuh is great. Best defenseman money can buy. Glad we have him on our team for the next 5 years.
See? I can be loving too.
The problem with Trouba is his paycheck. Nobody (ok, few) would complain if he was on the books at 5M, maybe even 6M. That’s just the reality at least until his limited NMC kicks in and jr Rangers are evaluated.
Panarin Zibanejad Kreider
Lafreniere Chytil Krakko
Blais Stromeo Goodrow
Hunt Rooney Reaves/Goat Boy
Run with it
Troob’s wife is a doctor. She needs money and lots of it. Leave him alone.
Who’s Q?
Bdl
It’s ”not Q”
And that that is for nils lundkvist not Lundqvist like hank.
😉
Pete
Sorry…kakko played over 18 minutes and that’s what you’ve got…ok, sure.
Maybe you should just give kakko a bit of time to get familiar with those guys a bit before you start charting the only positive things you see in over 18 minutes of ice.
Jeez dude, cut kakko some slack that line will be fine.
Jamgeau
It’s interesting isn’t it? New players new coaches same soul. Flat starts, no one on the same page, poor defensive zone decisions and some of the supposed “leaders” not showing up on the ice ?
Carps article proves one thing. Lines are truly drawn in the sand this season for the casual fan/brunch crowd and scorned JG/JD fans.
“Gorton draft pick GOOOOD! Drury free agent signing BAAAAD”
Q – Impractical Jokers?
They’ll never realize how much the loss of the Buchnevich has cost the Rangers. Dumbest trade since the Ratelle trade with Boston. This Goodrow sucks and at what a salary. Some of our ex Rangers are starting to look great with the Canes. And now They’re going to lose Kratzov who probably much better than 5 or 6 players last nite. Miller is totally regressing. Not to happy with the way the team is going. Gallant has made some sreal bad decisions
Fire sather
Fire everybody?
Keep the faith Kemosabe!
I like Sammy blais so not sure if Buch is that bad of a trade
Goodrow I hope gets better. Not impressed yet
Ex Rangers always look better on other teams. See Jack Johnson the other night
It is awfully early to be heading for the ledge. I will not be heading there anytime soon. if they suck by Christmas, then maybe.
Traid everyone!!!!!!
Ledge is open. Free shrimp cocktail on Saturdays.
Wick, your the one that said Kakko is the biggest issue on the line. i think he has been the best player on that line in both games so far, so no need for me to cut him any slack
The reason ex Ranger players look good on other teams is because we notice them only when they score goals. That’s it.
You’re welcome.
I wanna share something with you kids.
Boxing has got to be the greatest workout you can possibly do. In boxing you use every muscle… and you can do it at home. Without any equipment! Shadow boxing by itself, if done right, can burn 400 or more calories in an hour. Someone let me use Oculus Quest VR headset and the Fitxr boxing workout classes. But there are countless videos on YouTube that can teach you how to do shadow boxing workouts. The VR headset app is just high tech shadow boxing… I think it’s around $300 dollars for the headset and $10 dollars a month for the Fitxr app. I love it! I’ve never had more energy as I do now. I have slowly been moving to the regular shadow boxing though.
How annoying is it to learn things in your forties that you wished you knew in your youth? This is one of those things.
I guess fans are back
CCCP Deangelo is already on a 160 point pace!
3CP has been musing on meeting Manny at Gleason’s for years. Now, he’s getting serious.
Wow. That corona shirt was third man in.
Brutal and stupid.
Met Cooney at Gleasons when I was a kid before… Holmes fight..nice guy but did not get feeling he liked to fight
LOL, Coos… Manny is a feminist. I don’t hit women.
I hope the guy in the corona light jersey gets arrested
He really deserves to be but he’s probably an off duty firefighter so he won’t
That guy wasn’t a part of anything. Looks he just wanted to punch the dark skin kid.
That’s F’ed up
Hey cccp
Let’s each train for a couple months and then we can have a charity boxing match. We’ll live stream it on the blog.
We’ll get bobble head style masks to hide our identities
Pete
Lmao, sure dude…whatever you want to think man.
Have a fantastic Friday!
Wow two games into the season and people are bringing up how they miss Buchnevich?
I don’t think that’s quite the issue but that’s just me
Jpp
Charity match it is!
Jpp is Stalone
Cccp is dolph lundgren
Ivan Drago broke the blog
Gallant should do something bold to start the next game..like maybe tell them they have to play hard from the opening faceoff.
Maybe throw the two big contracts together since they are the ones not doing much yet.
Last year they didn’t get much going until Strome and Kreider paired up. Maybe go back to that.
“You can’t do that I don’t like Strome he stinks.”
Lol
I guess the excuse this season for Meeka will be “waaaa 93 doesn’t have Buch anymore!”
Goodrow or Hunt will eventually wind up on that Strome line. If Gallant is smart he will do it sooner than later.
I’m sick of watching them try to play catch up every year.
Alright that’s enough of that. Stop distracting me from my abundance of school work!
You guys see the case about the sc family the murdaughs.
Well the entire community knows the guy murdered these people.
It’s like common knowledge here.
Another evil man getting his.
This stuff is all in my town. I’m getting a car alignment done. And they got Fox News on in the lounge. This is the 1st I’m hearing that they are taking him down.
All of this stuff happened years and years ago but more recently one of the sons got into a boating situation where his girlfriend got thrown off the boat due to a sudden braking or turning and she flew out of the boat into a buoy and he and everyone in the boat left her there to die.
Since then it brought families indiscretions up and off again.
Funny they couldn’t bring him in for murder. But they could for fraud.
Biggest criminals have lawyers make they do legal or find loopholes to get them off for some BS word and law interpretion reasons.
I guess I misunderstood the stories or the amount of stories.
Just from what I’ve had locals tell me in the past.
This same guy murdered somebody years and years ago and got away for it.
And now this past summer. His son’s was in this boating accident where his gf died and afterward the son and mother were murdered.
But part of the story as told to me was that everyone here knew years ago this guy was a murderer and how unfortunate it was for the sons girlfriend that the family was still even in such a powerful position.
A lot of SC officials or maybe Beaufort county officials wanted this to stay quiet was bc respected retired officials were bought off at the very beginning when he 1st murdered someone.
Way back when what happened in little Beaufort, SC could be kept in the shadows and out of mainstream spotlight
My lord does Gorton own the Athletic?
Now Shayna’s writing “kill the owner” pieces. “Where have you gone darling Buchnevich boy? Et tu Vitali?!”
https://i.natgeofe.com/k/dfc55ac8-a221-4390-b440-72ebfe2bfc39/hedgehog-staring_square.jpg
We have a Captain.
Was one of them wearing an “A$$holes Live Forever” Tee shirt? A lack of self awareness on his part.
Strome out and McKegg called up.
What the ledge needs is to have E3 and CCCP be the hosts. And maybe some blinkenlights too 😉
McKegg up? 0-2-1 great start.
Nothing to fear
Zibanejad’s here
Now if AV or Quinn were here id be almost certain McKegg would be centering Panarin, but let’s see what Gallant does. also too bad no barron.
And little weird thus just strome could be out for covid protocols, but what do i know
Unless he is one of the four unvaxxed in the league I’d expect it is either a false positive or asymptomatic. Not too worried, just keep him away from Kakko.
I can assure you guys that there is a lot of nasty non covid stuff going around. I have a respiratory infection that’s lasted 7 days knocked me on my butt. The joys of daycare. Little man has been miserable too. 3 negative covid tests between the two of us.
Does mcKegg get an A?
But but but… they are all vaccinated! Oh, that’s right. It’s the OTHER strain. Sure… 🙂
NO COVIDICS!
McKegg gets A keg.
The pack is opening tonight. If there’s a year to watch it, and I know I say it every year.
This is the year
WatchtheAHL.com
They are having a free preview for the opening weekend. You sign up with an account without giving a CC and can watch
I didn’t see it but panjuniemi with the pack’s 1st goal.
1-1 at intermission
They were outshot 15-5. Kinkaid must be doing ok.
If Alexis Lafrenier does not begin to function as advertised than I see little difference between him and Jason Lagrenier.
Panjiniemi got the drive to be an NhLer. He didn’t go down to Hartford and start going through the motions.
Am I the only one here who has thought to themselves ‘man I really wish I could talk to Ramsay (Jim)’
Different injuries and stuff, you ever wish you had that guy in your circle?
Like right now. I got this weird thing in my elbow. Like a month and half ago, I walked into something , don’t remember if it was a handle of a door or the corner of something. But I had my forearm bent at a 90degree, and I walked into somewhere where the only place I walked into it, was the soft spot of my elbow on the outside.
And since then I’ve lost strength in my ability to pick something up and do a curl like motion. Like let’s say my coffee cup in the center console of my car in between the front seats. Or my water jug which seats on the floor of the car in front of the center console.
There’s a pain, a burning sensation, and a weakness.
Like stuff I’d automatically do and pick up or whatever, it’s not so much it’s too weak to pick stuff up, but there’s a straining and cramping and weird sensations within the little soft tissue spot of your elbow.
And it’s going on 2 months and I’m still feeling it.
You can’t severe or pop a ligament or tendon by poking it can you?
I’ve just been assuming it’s a deep tissue bruise in that weird hard to hit spot and it’s just a weird hard place to bruise and it has weird sensations and effects from it.
Can somebody send that on to rams maybe have him post an answer under a dummy name. Or do we have any kensologist boneheads here.
My guess is Rooney is bumped up to 3C and Kegger replaces at 4C. Does Flip get the promotion to play with Bread? Smart to give Stromeo rest now if his wrist is banged up. Long season and playing for a contract!
Johnny hockey brozinski with the aissist to Morgan baron
Pack up 2-1.
While being outshoot 29-12
Forget about stromeo
What about MEEE
😉
Pack win 2-1
Kinkaid 1st star
One more win than “the big club.”
Kinkaid is better than Georgie
He is great in the locker room and on th eve CG too. Always positive vibes.
Georgie needs to go
(On the bench )
Not the typo above eve CG whatever that is. Thanks Apple 🍏
Kinkaid also hasn’t punched a teammate.
JT purposely takes a path closest to the flyer bench so he could chirp AV on the way by
Would great to have a JT Miller on this team. Why don’t we draft players like that?
JT Miller?
Hedgehog had to sweeten the McDonagh deal in order to bring back Hajek AND Namestoolong.
Great moment Hedgehog History.
The Minx has been thinking. Let’s suppose Miller wasn’t traded, Tippett or Vilardi was picked instead of The medal slinger, and Wahlstrom over Winesoft. We may have missed out on Krakko and Lafreniere which might have turned our to be a good thing?
Blais update?
I think we must assume with Shesterkin or Boy George in net, theoretically we are already down by 2 goals.
I will add that’s being optimistic!
Minx is on a roll this morning! Save some for when you go out tonight 😉
Gallant says he does not focus on “winning.” I wonder then how much he adjusts play/matchups based on opposition research? Not familiar with his past coaching other than end results.
Beezle
Not going out tonight and really not going out much these days, Grandkids?
Gallant says he doesn’t focus on winning? We are in deep trouble?
“You can’t worry about the wins, you got to worry about the way you play,” Gallant said.
But he later did add: “Going in there saying we’ve got to win, we go to play well and when you play well you usually win.”
I get what he is saying but it just made me wonder if he makes many adjustments based on opposition or instead keeps on keeping on with the one way he wants team to play.
So far, Alexis Lafrenière looks a lot more like Alexandre Daigle than he does Jack Hughes.
TYM
Exactly ny point with my 9:35 post.
Apparently the Ranger draft board has a habit of selecting the wrong prospect more often than not.
Strome out no problem. NYR very deep at center. Better sit Mika and Chytil to give them a rest.
I apologize for that troll post I made above. I am bored this morning. It is dumb to be all over a young kid like that.
Is it possible to be optimistically pessimistic about the future of this organization?
Torts is probably a lousy poker player. He doesn’t ever hide how he feels.
So Chytil with Bread tonight? It could work since Bread drives the play on his line.
Good afternoon, boneheads!
Ledge is full before the game even started? That’s a new one 🙂
Chytil very active, in motion. Learning the tiny rink.
Cheat’ll with Panerin sounds interesting.
Heetel, Blay spell their names wrong.
Very early to worry about Kakko and Laffy with a new coach. That being said, I still preferred Dach over Jorma.
SN
Too late now. I thought Krakko was the sniper we were looking for. Missed that one!
Not sure what this means but here it is
https://i.ibb.co/4JssPsD/FB-IMG-1634411963563.jpg
Not going to look up the other ones but Hughes had 165 TOI for PP, Laf only 71.
C3 3:20pm
That’s a horse of a different color?
When the rangers won the lottery I researched about Alexis Lafrenière. I read a few who said he was a generation player. I remember one person saying he isn’t a good skater but will be a good player. Alexis Lafrenière is not a generational player but the guy who said he isn’t a good skater but will be a good player is more spot on.
3CP….I know it means….we have an even lesser version of Jason Lafrenier. That’s not good.
However, Kratsov will light it up for someone else probably Pitt and we will shake our heads.
That chart tells me Quinn didn’t know how to deploy talent.
I’ve never understood why players enter the building single file.
They should be walking in like an offensive line. Everybody side by side.
I’ve heard amateur scouts say that the last true ‘generational player’ was matthews.
And that the next 2 drafts might each have one.
They are only a handful of generational players playing in the same era at any given time.
You don’t need generational players to win.
I wouldn’t say anyone on Tampa is generational. But they have like 3 of the top 15-20 players in the league and like 10 of the top 100.
Rangers have a lot of talent throughout the lineup. The same could be said for our roster in the future.
The name of the game this season is for our top 6 veterans and our bottom 6 to excel and our younger guys popping at different intervals along the way. And that by February-March our younger guys are adding so much to what the vets and bottom 6 have brought all season.
I think a lot of d-corps success depends upon the forwards playing good hockey. We are certainly young back there and we aren’t the 18-19 blues yet back there size wise. But if our forwards and really playing well and tilting the ice, I think it’s gonna allow the D to play a less chaotic, guessing game, scrambling than we see whenever our forwards get into a attack off the rush and always look for the perfect pass instead of getting it to the net.
Sometimes there’s a higher chance of rebounds and loose pucks when you look to shoot it into a crowd in front and have it deflect or drop into an opportune spot than it is to just shoot it into the goalie hoping for the same thing.
But that’s not to say sometimes there’s a higher chance of rebounds and loose pucks when you look to shoot it into a crowd in front and have it deflect or drop into an opportune spot than it is to just shoot it into the goalie hoping for the same thing.
Getting pucks on net doesn’t mean shoot it directly into the goalie hoping for a rebound. That’s where hockey smarts come in. Get a goalie moving and then do it, so there’s a better chance he doesn’t handle and smother it clean. Use defensemen with there back to you and put it off their pants so it might drop dead in a spot your teammate can bang home a chaotic net front opportunity.
Haha I thought to myself I should put the last paragraph in a separate post but I forgot to delete in the orginal.
NEW POST
Oh and the point of a cycle is not to just waste energy cycling and then passing it out to your dman at the point. It’s to lure and make defenders chase and then you want to feed it to top of the paint or the circles. One of the forwards needs to sync up and time when and where his teammates with the puck will have the angle to pass it into the middle and take the route. If he doesn’t or can’t pass it to you than look to see where you support the play best. But the name of the game isn’t to cycle for 15-20 seconds and use all your energy to then pass it out to the point where if dman gets pressure he’ll likely to just throw it back into the corner and your either starting all over again but tired, or your giving up possession without a scoring opportunity bc you go to change when the dman dumps it back into the corner as it was his only play
