I’m sure you already aware that yesterday Drury and Co made the final two cuts (Barron and Kravtsov were sent down to Hartford). Probably a temporary move, at least partially related to these two not needing to pass through waivers.
In another related news Gallant decided to name 6 alternate captains instead of giving someone a C. Not sure what changed ( all speculations ) since about 2-3 weeks ago when he said they would name one. I don’t think I like that decision.
This is the roster going into this season:
Forwards (13): Panarin (A), Kreider (A), Zibanejad (A), Strome (A), Goodrow (A), Hunt, Gauthier, Lafrenière, Kakko, Chytil, Blais, Reaves and Rooney.
Defensemen (8): Trouba (A), Lundkvist, Hájek, Miller, Fox, Lindgren, Nemeth and Tinordi.
Goalies (2): Shesterkin and Georgiev
As per CapFriendly, they have just over $8M in available cap space.

Guys! It’s happening tonight! The solution to the Tom Wilson problem is taking the ice! The days of our boys being Crapsoft are over! Oh, and Crapsoft’s career as a blueshirt is over!
The story about Kravtsov having a contentious exit meeting at the end of the season may have been leaked by the Rangers to make them look better. Only Drury and Kravtsov know what really happened. It’s not unlike them to use the press to spin a story.
That said, there clearly is a rift between him and the team and he is being dumb by not reporting to Hartford. If he really wants to play in the NHL he should have gone to Hartford and quietly asked to be traded. He’s not doing himself any good by not being on the ice.
The Rangers also don’t give enough weight to personality issues when evaluating players. See TDA, Lias and now Kravtsov. They’re like a woman who falls for a guy who is a drunk and thinks she can change him. Most of the time it doesn’t end well. The Rangers fall for the skill and gloss over the other issues. Sometimes they need to be wise enough to just pass on him.
Initial reaction that most are having to Kravtsov is poor asset management. It certainly looks that way. But let’s just see how this plays out. See what they can get for him. Let’s see if there was other motivation involved in protecting Gauthier and Hajek. If this was as simple as being afraid to lose Hajek, and Gauthier, then it’s a flat out terrible decision. If this was about a big trade that could hurt their depth, then protecting them was a smart move.
What I mean by that is, Kravtsov, Robertson, Jones, and Chytil for Eichel. Gauthier and Hajek get lost on waivers. That 6 players lost. Hurts the depth. Protect them, and protect the depth.
Ahhh season opener tonight and you guys are already (still?)trading Trouba Kreider and wanting Drury fired. I expected no less!

BDL I hope you’re right. But I get the impression that this was just a conservative move that blew up in their faces.
Maybe the Rangers should stop taking prima donna from Europe and start taking farm boys from Western Canada and the American mid west. You know;kids who are as tough as nails and who would die to see the bright lights of Hartford with a chance to play at MSG. Way to many draft choices by this organization have stunk up the joint before we even had a chance to boo them.
Forget all that crap. In a few hours we will have a real game to dissect and prove how we are all better GM’s then anything the Rangers have had since Lester Patrick.

i really don’t think the krachov issue would have gone away if we had waived say hajek instead. not playing ould have still been a big problem for him even if he was on 23 man roster
All the speculation regarding Kravtsov is just that. We have no idea what happened or what was said. We have no knowledge of what this kid was like during practices, team meetings or in the locker room. Great kid but misunderstood? PIA, complaining all the time? Who knows? Time to move on and support the team that’s on the ice.
Alex if it wasn’t the demotion it eventually would have been about ice time, his role, his contract etc. players like this always find something to take issue with sooner or later
Oh, and that goes for all the discussion about the captaincy as well. Gallant is known as a player’s coach who’s well liked by his player’s. Again, we have no idea how this decision was made and we should trust that this is what’s best for the team right now. Until it becomes a problem it’s not a problem.

More than anything I think it’s about maturity and professionalism.
The entitlement and the spoiled kid act may get tolerated in the nfl and the nba but this league has always had more men than boys in it.
I think it ultimately falls on the scouting department that conducts the interviews to try to get a feel for who these kids are what they’re focused on and how they intend to conduct their business.
Our scouting staff has been wretched in terms of doing that and in terms of NHL capabilities over the years. Goes without even needing to be said.

But there is no doubt that NYR brass knew of these types of issues first hand and (from the little that is known) appear to have chosen to gamble with the asset, along with potential distraction, rather than just moving on before situation deteriorated. They needed something better than “don’t let the door …”

When Krapsoft was put on Bread’s line last season for a spell and after a good game, Bread was being interviewed after the game and gave some lukewarm responses to questions about Krapsoft which I thought was pretty weird at the time.
We can only guess from the outside what was going on in the ‘room’ but he has been treated like there is something else stirring in the water. Also add to this his prior treatment and one can believe he is not well thought of and/or well liked.
Focus on the laundry, not the brunch crowd whining about more ‘potential’ not in the mix.
I hope Chytil doesn’t expect someone to give him Suzuki money…

There are many ways to take issue with something. For the second time now he’s chosen to react to Hartford assignment as “well I don’t want to be part of this organization then!”
Regardless of how you or anyone else feel about his capabilities vs Gauthier’s there’s clearly a Kravtsov issue there.
Th game is at 7:30, and it’s TNT exclusive. Make sure you can watch it. Usually what happens is the Go Time post starts with 5-6 comments of “dammit, I don’t have that, does anyone have a link?” entries 🙂
Beezle- I’m not disagreeing with you at all. But he’s been a gamble since the moment they drafted him.
We don’t know that there was any agreement to play exclusively in the NHL despite a tw0-way contract. Doesn’t seem likely to me.
If there was concern about him being a flake then yes, they should have looked sooner to part ways but that isn’t to say that they should just give him an NHL spot in the meantime if they don’t feel that it gives them the best chance to win.
And I don’t think it’s likely that they felt Gauthier outplayed him. This was about waivers. But what is GG supposed to say? You know how these teams conduct their media and choose their words. He’s not going to just rip Gauthier and talk about not wanting to lose a player on waiver.

Watching TB lose last night with the announcers mentioning that they really miss their 3rd line from last season.
Goodrow is a valuable signing that should yield many returns. Quick aside, in the Azzdancer game recently, he was in the faceoff dot with big strong Anders Lee. During the faceoff tussel, Lee ended up on the ice and looked up at Goodrow with a surprised look on his face. Goodrow just looked down at him with a ‘whatever, get used to it’ look on his face.
It’s not just about ‘hits’ or ‘fights’; strength can be shown in the ongoing one on one battles happening throughout the game; on the wall, during faceoffs, in front of the net, etc etc.
1) Can’t wait for tonight. Feel like it’s right before Christmas as a kid.
2) Knowing Rangers openers, the game will probably be a let down.
3) Some of you probably forget how bad NBC was in the beginning. They got better…except constantly cutting away from after the whistle stuff to watch one person skate around.
4) I liked in the game last night that they had ice-level sounds louder.

Sarcasm aside, take a look at the top 9 they’re going to roll out tonight. 2 guys capable of putting up 90-100 points, 2 more that will give you around 20 goals and 50+ points. A couple of board bangers, highly skilled youth, and two recent Stanley Cup winners. Plus the 4th line is a true energy line and not something recycled from the island of misfit toys. This is the best lineup they’ve put out there in a while, folks.
It may not include all your favorites or fall in line w/ your own personal depth chart but there’s a lot more balance and potential here than there’s been since “the letter”/”the stew”.
SN don’t look now but….we might actually see eye to eye this season : D

Here’s my take. If all most everyone on RR2 knew Kravtsov was a lame pick what does that say about our scouting staff and decision making by this organization?
He didn’t have to say it James …he is clearly better than Goat boy ….and everyone knows it ..including Drury and Gallant. They can spin it all they want but this was about sending folks down that did not have to go through waivers.

Only thing my son remembers about the first draft he ever watched was me being excited wahlstrom fell to us and then the dissapointment when we took a kid I never heard of to reading more about him and thinking maybe it was the right call till now knowing it wasn’t
Every time we hear the name Oliver we cringe a little bit even if it’s not even in reference to wahlstrom.
Long term, perhaps Kravtsov will be better than gauthier (not a high bar at this point) but neither ever looked that impressive IMO and both were outplayed by Barron and hunt in the preseason.

What if Drury did sit down with Krapsoft and explain the “PROcess” – and Krapsoft just doesn’t want anything to do with it?
Why should Drury placate someone talented but with very little NHL experience against the better interests of the team?

as someone who wanted tampa to win the cup and especially to beat the isles i really felt that the 3rd line was much more effective than the 2nd line. they weren’t getting pp time but even strength and pk and starting games they were right there.
I liked maroon on blues and first year on tampa. Last year he looked really slow. Even for him.

I bet that surprised a lot of people. It doesn’t surprise me a bit. Hank’s life is centered around being at the center of the fan base.

If memory serve correct, the Rangers picked them apart all season long because they were old and slow. It wasn’t until his antics and a bunch of injuries to the Rangers that Washington did much of anything against them.

Fights too often prove little except for the combatants. Finishing checks and clearing the crease for 60 minutes wins hockey games.
