There were two sequences in the third period when Goat Boy was completely lost in Dzone and Bs were getting grade A chances. GG is a defense first coach who would sacrifice some O for responsible D; don’t think Goat Boy has the mental fortitude to understand his role in two of the zones and he doesn’t bury enough of his chances to make up for gaffs in Dzone.

Last night was a great opportunity for the coaching staff to measure the yutes against strong competition as the Bs had their first line out there a lot it seemed.
Prolly an unpopular opinion with the Brunch crowd but Nils and Jones may not fit the mold of a responsible pro Dman yet. Though Broadway Joe had a good game. Like the way he transitions the puck out of the zone.
Krapsoft being hurt (if serious) may ease some decisions up front. Not sure Kegger makes it as Rooney seems to be 4C .

Selma is younger, cheaper and may have an upside in the right situation. Someone will claim him. If they don’t plan to keep him they out to try to get something in return. Well, when you cut the hype and story lines out of the picture, it’s pretty clear that they are going to continue to have a need for improvement in their own zone.
These final roster cuts need to be based off of that to a pretty significant degree I would think.
Not trying to kill the offensive defensemen who are trying to earn a job here but Gallant needs to go with whoever can handle the D zone best.
To me, offense from the blueline is a secondary need- especially this early in the season.
Neither goalie has impressed from what I’ve seen. And I’m not sure how well they’re adhering to a new system just yet.
They’re going to lose a lot of points early if they’re bleeding goals the way they have the last few years.

Barron is likely going to Hartford to play top line minutes every night while Chytil gets to either do or die.
It’s been talked to death…talked about until it’s risen from the grave…and then talked about so much more that it finally killed itself to not have to be a conversation anymore…BUT…there’s got to be a different element thrown in at center ice at some point. Whether it’s Strome or Zibanejad or Chytil or 2/3 if those guys- someone needs to go so that they can bring in a player that is strong where those guys are all weak.

Third pair doesn’t have to be/shouldn’t be flashy. Just need to go out and be defensively responsible and keep their zone/the crease tidy.

We went to dinner in Williamsburg so I had to watch it on the DVR when I got back. Lots of the brunch crowd was out in Brooklyn last night. Sammy showed some skill last night in addition to getting hit with the puck in front of the net. There were some long sieges in the Ranger end last night. Hope that doesn’t happen when they have a full roster. Didn’t notice Broadway Joe much which is a good thing for a third pair D. Rooney got his spot on the roster last night. Kegger may be gong the other way. Now according to GG the last two kind of count. Let’s see if anything changes.

Nils has been steady. Nothing flashy. Looks to be a good player. But he’s redundant. If one of the prospects is going to be the 6, the guy who’s game makes the most sense is Schneider. I don’t think that’s going to happen. Nils is a little more accomplished at this stage, but I think ultimately Schneider is going to be the better/more valuable player.

James, Goodrow being on a line with Chytil will likely be enough to shore faceoffs enough on that line as you have have Goodrow take a draw if pinned in the d zone.
However as I said months ago, even if you brought in a new lockdown 3C (and we don’t have any such player in the system right now), that doesn’t do that much if Mika and Strome continue to be mediocre at the dot just given the number of faceoffs those two take given they will lead the team in ice time at the position, including pp for both and pk for Mika.
Drury couldn’t or wouldn’t make changes to Mika/Strome in the offseason and hard to see it happening during the season unless things go really badly and they are sellers at the deadline or a surprise name becomes available. So figure it’s most likely next offseason where at most only one of Mika and Strome is brought back

BDL, it doesn’t need to be Nils, but having two defenseman on the roster capable of running a pp isn’t redundant, especially with Fox not yet showing a willingness to shoot from the point. Miller and Trouba haven’t shown much on that front and neither Nemeth or Lindgren are going to play that role, so definitely think there is still room for jones or Nils on the current roster. Going forward there will be room for Schneider and Jones or Nils if they want as well as Nemeth is a placeholder. Also, no sure thing Miller has a longterm spot locked up, kid still needs to make big strides defensively in my opinion

I read Carp’s stories and read the comments. But I have to agree that the comments are not very interesting. I have also noticed that traffic has diminished significantly there. I think they have been bleeding subscribers. I have not cancelled my subscription because over all the sports I like to follow, I find their coverage good and their writers are not constrained by word limits, resulting in more in-depth stories. Katie Strang’s work is excellent, as is Pierre LeBrun’s. But the bloom is coming off the rose over there and for comments and discussion, this site is far better.

dont think there is someone telling Carp what to write at all, athletic model seems pretty hands off, to the point where they could use better editors a fair amount. and honestly if there was such a person calling the shots you’d think they’d want more content for a team like the rangers and someone who was at camp every day, etc.
Dom did say there are things his model can’t account for with players like Goodrow and Reaves, but think it’s on the margins to make that big an impact over the course of a season if such a player is otherwise on the ice for a ton of goals against, etc. And you don’t need advanced stats to know Glass or Reaves isn’t a guy you want dressed in clinching game or when you are down a game or two in a series (ie when Gallant himself scratched Reaves in Vegas and Deboers did the same). Gallant seems to know better, whereas AV did not

That reminds me of a night at trinity college where we tried some ambien and ended up walking the hallways of this long long dormatory. Just bouncing from the left wall to the right wall, back to the left wall. Completely offbalance and floaty. Like running in a dream.
Never used it since this time. My mother on the other hand became very dependent on them and would abuse them and it led to a lot of other things for her. I can’t even explain how much better she is doing now that she tapered off all the pharma stuff doctors were prescribing her for 15 years.

Recruited to play football there. Had my eyes set on using the situation to get a chance to do an internship with the Wolfpack.
Concussion issues and lack of preparedness both in offseason training for football and a general lack of preparedness to nagivate a college like that and not knowing what I had gotten into in terms of the type of school and the type of student body it was.
By September I had concussion issues, by October the coach told me to stop coming bc I had started self medicating with marijuana. I had already determined by then I was going home, I thought I wasn’t coming back for spring semester and my dorm pals talked me into at least coming back to spend the semester there. It was paid for.
But by the start of the spring semester I had screwed myself academically by having convinced myself I wasn’t coming back for the spring semester, that no matter what I did academically or to go back to the football team, they were gonna make me leave the school for a year before allowing to apply for reinstatement.
So I left. One of my best friends talked me into moving down to DC with him where another one of our friends was living and looking to get a new place. And two months later, my friend died of a tragic harmless accident, and that was that.
I was paralyzed for years. Sleptwalked through community college with like 3.8. Go to stony brook, decided to do a MBA in 5 years program they had. I was Gung go and loaded up on one too many courses. A journalism elective. 1.5 credit course. And when I recognized that my lack of attentiveness to the outside the class work due to the work I had on my work with the requirements and asked the professor to withdraw me so that I could come in that semester with 3.6 GPA that was required to enter the MBA program. And the professor; news 12 anchor forgot his name actually , said no, the reason why bc one time when he had Steve levy come into our class for an exercise wHere we’re ask him questions on an old case.
And I had really done my homework and asked him a question that was asked regarding levy’s handling of the situation back when it was going on. And cat caught his tongue, shocked he got asked that by some student and looks the professor and gives him a look like who is this guy, this isn’t what I expected and then the professor gives me a dirty look.
And the second he told me in person that he wouldn’t be withdrawing me from the class with a smile on his face. I knew why.
And that was the end of my college days. can’t make the 💩 up.

Oh yeah and in the middle of all that I got assaulted at a Mets game at Shea stadium where to hide liability they had arrested, where when trying to phone my mother from the cell phone that had a broken mouthpieces when asking guards to use a working phone to make my call to let her know I’m alright. I’m pulled of the cell and assaulted from behind, fight them off me, run through the hallways screaming for help, having cops running at me from one direction and the officers who assaulted me from the other direction as I’m screaming for help. One of the rulers transfer officers who assaulted me kicked my leg out from behind me causing me to face plant into a steel countertop which split open my head and as they are trying to pull me back, the nurse grabs me and says nope. He’s coming with me, he needs medical attention. She put in some call, had me taken to the hospital by an officer who was obviously the guy they sent in to be good cop and try to get the story of what had happened. My mother does what my mother was naturally good at. She found out what precinct Shea stadium arrests go to, called, got put on hold, finally the nurse gets on the phone and say the name of the hospital and that she needs to get down there as soon as she can. I’m given a cat scan and I see the results on the computer scene and the young guy at the computer pointing out a black spot on my brain the size of a small egg and the Asian doctor waving him off and walking out of the room. I’m sat in a quiet corner of a hallway in a wheelchair handcuffed in a daze scared 💩less that I’m about to ‘get lost’ and suddenly I hear ‘where is my son. Where are the doctors, where are the officers, where is my son and suddenly I see my mom down the hallway passing an intersection not seeing me but my sister right behind her. And she saw me and just ran over to me crying and I said don’t worry I’ll be fine now.
I get rushed back to the precinct put in my own cell. White suited officer comes to me asking the story and afterwards apologizing and telling me that wasn’t NYPD who did that to you. They let me out within a half hour but with a charge of attempted escape. Had to cover their zzzes. I get a lawyer and file a suit, they yo-yo me into court every 3rd week only to have me sit in the hallway all day before telling me my appearance has been postponed. Police department won’t provide the security footage. My boss is giving me a hard time about taking off from work, I’m all messed up from post concussion issues and just let the whole thing go; afterwards, I soon get a piece of mail saying the attempted escape charge was dropped.
And you wonder why I don’t buy anything anyone’s selling. Bc ive seen too much of how things really are.

My dad always told me:
This situation you have the books and life you get to live and how your own boss and don’t have to deal with any of the crap.
That’s your karma. You earned that through walking through all the things you did and not giving up or being self destructive.
I don’t make a lot of money. I don’t know how long I can bank on books, I’m trying to use it to set me up to create another operation I can run myself. But I’m 38 years old and I’ve spent 3 years of my life working for someone else.
It was my dad that instructed me to forget all the BS and anger and my desire to change the system and just set myself up to have some peace for a change and enjoy that, that I needed to experience that for a prolonged period of time to help change my view of what the world was and that I would be better prepared to help others and change things once I found peace for myself.

My dad had no answers for the stuff I went through as a teenager and in my early 20s. He just always gave me a place that felt like sanctuary.
My dads father ran out on them, his mom has a nervous breakdown from it, my dad and his sister in an orphanage for more than a year at 4 while this went on.
And he would say to me. Jonathan I thought I had such a rough upbringing, I can’t even fathom going through what you have. I’ve never seen someone go through all these crazy situations back to back to back.
I don’t know how you’ve dealt with it but make no mistake son. You are stronger than most, bc you have and the best is still yet to come for you. It may shape your life, but it’s not gonna define your life. Your my son, I’ve seen you everyday since the day your were born. I know it’s not gonna define you.
You better believe everything I went through shaped me, schooled me, prepared me. But no, it doesn’t define me. The only thing that defines me is the knowledge I wasn’t born into man made society. I was born into this creation of this creation.

It’s also why I say until you’ve had to fight for your life or felt like you were. You have no idea what it is to be in a fight.
And it’s also why I’ve never initiated or started or threw the first punch. Bc in the situations I was forced to fight for my life, moments where your gang assaulted and you have to fight off 3-4 men (wasn’t just once I was put in that situation), I learnt there’s a ferocity in me and a warriors spirit where im moving 3x faster than they can process and it’s over before it started. Legitimately like the dude from Troy. That’s how I fast and ferociously I’ve observed myself being in these situations The look of shock on these guys faces as it happens. To this day I can feel the energy and the actual physical things I did in those situations to protect myself. And I recognize it’s literally coded response. Put in that situation, that is how I am wired with survival instincts to become. And I mean when I say, knowing that made me learn to channel my anger differently. I knew I had to avoid confrontations bc it could quickly lead to me hurting someone and this wired fear that I could end up dealing with the system bc of it. Regardless if it was self defense.
I’m not gonna change the world that way. That’s not the way.
But that ferocity and that deep rooted need to stand up to injustice, it pours through every inch of my soul.

While generally correct, there are exceptions to that rule. The Messier trade happened right after the first game of the season. Larmer was a week or so in to the season. And I think the Mike Rogers trade was right around this time. None of those are recent of course. And I still think it’s 50/50 that Strome is traded before the season starts.

It’s hard to judge if Mika’s scoring will translate in the post season since he hasn’t been in them since he’s been THIS type of player (which, by the way, is arguably a top 10 center in the league). And while no one will mistake him for Bergeron, he does kill penalties and is an integral part of the PP that has been 21% efficient the last 3 years.

Meeka is a top 10 *SCORING* center in the league who is turning 29 in April with some injury and, ahem, ‘commitment’ issues.
If he was a top 10 center that could dominate 200 ft fo ice in the playoffs, you open the vault; but he has not shown to be that. Throw ~ $8-9M on to the books for him, add $11.6 for Bread and ~$8-9M speculated for Fox and you have another possible Cap nightmare. It could be managed but limits some options moving forward.
These are highly talented players but you really may only afford 2 top 10 contracts at their respective positions, esp if Cap is flat over next 2-3 years.
To put it another way, they had the Norris Trophy winner, the top LW and one of the top scoring centers last seasons and did not sniff the postseason. It take a skill AND a complete roster to win the Spring.

I’d take strome for mid term…5 or 6 years and $5 or $6 mil per over Meeka any day.
You fill the second top 6 centre spot with a guy that is a solid 200’ centre that has offencive upside. The strength of this team is on the wings and d so they need to enhance it with solid two way guys at the muddle 6 centre positions.
You can deal with one centre that isn’t stellar at 200’ or draws but not 2 or 3 out of the top 3 line centres.
The rangers can survive with wingers that can slip in for draws at times, especially vital ones.
Eichel would throw this “plan” opinion of mine right out the window though, and I do think eichel is worth it.

The athletic article about players over 30 has me extremely worried about the back end of a contract given to Meeka at this age.
He will be extremely hard to replace for what he can give the next couple years. But age 32 and up would have high risk of becoming albatross.

Geez as I started scrolling upwards I see wicky and cregg mention Mika and a contract and I got scared 💩less they signed him to a big extension.
I’m totally with wicky on this. If Mika wants to stay and play here. He has to come in under 7.5 bc he’s not gonna live up to a big ticket. He’s gonna be streaky and dissappear in certain games.
And you want to know why I feel that way. Bc he gives off the body language and energy that he knows that’s the case. You hear it in his doubt in certain answers he gives.
Pressure gets to him. You want to play without pressure sign under market so the expectations are different for you, or go somewhere else.
If he doesn’t believe in himself to be the man, it’s pretty selfish to hamstring the entire organization and fan base just so he gets his money.
As I’ve said Mika the 2C as a match up advantage at 7m. That’s a weapon. That’s a guy I’m happy to have and hope he’s on fire when it counts.

My life was alil too ‘interesting’ for awhile.
I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. And honestly it’s why I want to see change. Bc I don’t want anyone to ever go through what I did. I don’t want anybody’s family to be affected by a family member who went through the stuff I did.
My youngest sister was 4 years old when the crazy parts began. My middle sister was 10. My mom developed issues from it that afflicted her for 20 years. It put so much stress on my family that it indirectly led to my parents getting divorced.
No family should have all their lives altered by a system that isn’t interested in the truth, and strong arms people into whatever a judge/lawyer feel like any given day based upon there moods or personal interests/relationships.
I had to plead guilty to something I didn’t do bc the family court judge (nys family court back in the day: judge was judge jury and executioner) was friends with the father of someone who’s wife forced their daughter into lying bc she didn’t want to admit she was hooking up with a boy at school. I had a principle who saw me and the girl leaving together after the alleged incident; in fact walked with us to the door, and then instead of telling the mother that thought he could make it go away by saying it’s a matter for the police and not a school matter. The mom saw $ signs and I was collateral damage in a lawsuit against the school district. My entire family was.
By the end of the situation. I had both the judge and the principal apologizing to me and saying they would do anything they could to help me out.
Except it was too late. The judge actually told my lawyer and family the only way I was getting out was to plead guilty. I was assaulted in the holding cell by 3 guys bc they were spitting on officers jackets hanging on hangers across from the cell and when the officers said if you guys keep doing that no one is seeing the judge today. So I said flat out, I got no part in this, move me into a different cell. The kids jumped me for that. That was over before it started and when the officer came over to see what the commotion was, I just said ‘ I F’ing told you to get me out of here’ news spread up into the courtroom of what happened; my lawyer told my parents, and said look the only way to ensure he gets out right now is to plead. So I plead. My mom got removed from the courtroom bc when I was actually pleading she ran up towards the desk, yelled ‘ how can you make someone admit to something they didn’t do, what is this’
Well that guilt plea, it allowed the mother to file a motion to keep me out of school. A year and half. From dec of my sophomore year to sept of my senior year.
The damage was done. Damage that shaped every member of my family, that changed the family permanently.
So interesting… yeah quite interesting to anyone whoever heard the story.
That principal was never able to look me in the eye again. Years worth of seeing me. School events for my sisters, their graduations. They guy could never do anything but hang his head when I would make eye contact with him.
Why: bc during the situation I said to him. You walked out with us. You saw us. You walked me and that girl to the door. How could you have let this happen instead of telling the truth about that.
Bc there was a lawsuit and the school board muzzled him. He admitted that to be the case
And I said to him, this happened to me and my entire family has gone through this bc someone told you what you could and couldn’t say. What about the truth?
He had no answer and he was never able to look at me again.
But just like everything in my life. I walked through it and in the end it all went away. Bc I had the truth on my side.
I would and wouldn’t change anything that happened. I would bc it breaks my heart to this day how the situation effected my sisters development and lives and my parents.
And I wouldn’t. Bc I wouldn’t be who I am now. I probably would have been a big high school football somebody and gone d1 and just been a meat head or more to the point. Naive, blind to the way the world is really run and by which and why$x

Bc it’s the kind of stuff that happens to people every day and it’s the kind of thing people want to pretend only happens to people who deserve it. People who want to naively believe this country is a fair place and there’s nothing wrong with the country’s infrastructure and institutions.
We’re lied to everyday and it’s based on the fact that you can’t prove it to be the case.
But hearing stories such as mine. You can’t make the 💩 up, so as uncomfortable as it is to hear it, it’s shining light on the dark truth about society. It’s not about right and wrong.
It’s about power, authority, and money. And that’s not what government and judges and public servants etc etc etc are supposed to be looking out for.
That’s why I don’t blame people who can’t fathom or want to believe how much we’re lied to. We’re brought up to believe laws are in place to look out for you, that laws and cops are there to protect you from injustice.
And that’s not what is going on in this country and the world as a huge.

Oh it has e3. And I didn’t wish that on them. I ended up at the same community college as the girl. And one time she came up to and said I’m so sorry for what I did to you. I should have stood up to my mom. The mom overheard her talking to friend on the phone (a friend who had a crush on me, she was bragging to her) and when the mom heard she was fooling around in school, the girl initially said she didn’t want to. That it was me.

We traded Howden to them for 4th and then gave them our 3rd for reavo. How did drury let that happen. Howden and a 4th for reavo would have been better than giving up the 3rd rounder which took away their ability to do that offer sheet tier without getting it back from Vegas.

I love the guy. If I were a kid, he’d be my favorite player just like kovalev was. When mika’s on fire, he’s one of the coolest hockey players on the planet.
But I’m not a kid anymore and I see the full picture, I’ve been watching this sport, I’ve been observing people and their body language and words my whole life.
I want him and every guy to have the confidence to say with conviction that they believe in themselves and they give it their all and they can play with anyone.
Yet I know that he knows, when the game is played a certain way or their are areas he should be going that doesn’t bc he doesn’t want to get hurt and not able to play, he’s not as effective.
And in the big picture that’s ok. But it also means, he should know he doesn’t want to have the expectations of a 9-10m player who is expected and will judged on performing in those situations against those teams best players.
That is of course, if the most important thing to him is playing with this team and living in this city and trying to win for the city.
Like Mika on 7/8 yr 9-10m per deal. If he’s being honest to himself, does he think he’s gonna live up to the expectations that come along with that deal. Can he not see how bad things could turn for him. We all see the way ranger fans turn on guys based upon performance. At those terms, the chance that it doesn’t turn sour for him is slim.
Yet if he’s honest with himself about all of the above and recognizes like hey you know what I myself feel much more comfortable being looked at as a 7-7.5m guy. That spotlight suits me. I know the expectations that come with 9-10m and I know how hard it will be to justify that salary. Well at those terms, the chances that he becomes beloved is pretty good. Bc at those terms, the expectations are tempered, he gains a lot of love for coming in at that range. It’s a high salary for a 2C but it’s 2C money, which means money can be spent to bring in a guy who can take the load off Mika in the situations Mika tends to not thrive in, giving him a different matchup. If we have Mika and a complete two way center who can play against the hardest teams 1st D pairing to allow Mika to go about after the 2nd wave. Plus everyone we also have. There’s a good chance that team wins big. And Mika becomes beloved.
So if it sounds like I don’t like Mika. It’s more I don’t like the premise of 8..5-10million on a long term deal that ties all our success to Mika.

Has Lehner ever played on an AV team? There is no doubt that there are and have been NHL coaches who have been destructive to the lives of their players, but, I don’t understand why he decided to target AV since he has little or no first hand experience with him. It’s early, but, so far there has been no collaboration of his rather vague accusations. I tend to take him with a groan of salt.

I’m figuring they go with the full 23. 14/7/2. My original feeling was that Hunt, and McKegg would be 13/14. Now I think Gauthier has pushed out McKegg. I figured it was a given that Tinordi was the 7th Dman. Now I think it’s 50/50 between him and Hajek. Yes Hajek.
I think they go Rooney over Barron, and Nils over Jones and Schneider.
Did anyone notice the play Schneider made in the third period last night. Shook off Marchant behind the net, and carried the puck through the neutral zone, and in to the O zone. Very impressive play.
I had the grand kids over yesterday and to record the game just finished reading last night’s thread. Stay up late and watched the game. Our boys were certainly outplayed and they continue to give up the blue line? bad leftover habits? Boy George and The Wahl gave them a chance to win. Blais, impressive! And Cuylle and Schneider are pretty close to being NHL ready. Lafreniere has some nice hands!
Dwayne made a few good (meaning intelligent) plays on/with the puck last night.
I am not so sure about GoatBoy making it. Looked like more of the same to me – yeah he goes N/S but again, didn’t do anything with it and seems to lose the puck a fair amount.
I would much rather see Barron make it if needing to choose one.
Heard Ken Singleton is retiring. Any chance he can be convinced to do color instead of Joe? Might be a little too laid back to do play by play in hockey.
There were two sequences in the third period when Goat Boy was completely lost in Dzone and Bs were getting grade A chances. GG is a defense first coach who would sacrifice some O for responsible D; don’t think Goat Boy has the mental fortitude to understand his role in two of the zones and he doesn’t bury enough of his chances to make up for gaffs in Dzone.
Still think a trade is coming and that all of this will make more sense after that happens. Hoping Drury can work some magic.
agree Beezle, Gauthier’s issue has been a lack of finish and last night he didn’t finish two breaks (one of them on shootout).
Those two top centers were abysmal at the dots tho Wick (like worse than Chytil bad). when does that change for this team?
Last night was a great opportunity for the coaching staff to measure the yutes against strong competition as the Bs had their first line out there a lot it seemed.
Prolly an unpopular opinion with the Brunch crowd but Nils and Jones may not fit the mold of a responsible pro Dman yet. Though Broadway Joe had a good game. Like the way he transitions the puck out of the zone.
Krapsoft being hurt (if serious) may ease some decisions up front. Not sure Kegger makes it as Rooney seems to be 4C .

don’t think mckegg ever had a great dhance, but agree he should be hartford bound. Hunt or Gauthier likely extra man unless Kravtsov out for a period and then maybe they keep Barron, but he’ll need to show a little more last two games (if playing).
Say last D spot is the biggest question and my guess is they do keep Tinordi and Hajek on roster to start (losing either on waivers wouldn’t really matter tho)

I know people are clamoring for the new shiny but Hajek has been ok out there, though never flashy. Won’t be surprised if he starts the year. If he goes bad, you know you have replacements handy. If not, kids get to bang it up for big minutes in the AHL another season.
Send Tinordi to Hartford. He will clear waivers. Older, more expensive and is not that good at hockey. He is also redundant. They have other bangers. Selma is younger, cheaper and may have an upside in the right situation. Someone will claim him. If they don’t plan to keep him they out to try to get something in return. Maybe there is another Spooner for Strome trade out there somewhere.
Well, when you cut the hype and story lines out of the picture, it’s pretty clear that they are going to continue to have a need for improvement in their own zone.
These final roster cuts need to be based off of that to a pretty significant degree I would think.
Not trying to kill the offensive defensemen who are trying to earn a job here but Gallant needs to go with whoever can handle the D zone best.
To me, offense from the blueline is a secondary need- especially this early in the season.
Neither goalie has impressed from what I’ve seen. And I’m not sure how well they’re adhering to a new system just yet.
They’re going to lose a lot of points early if they’re bleeding goals the way they have the last few years.
Also think Georgiev is a big liability headed into the season.
That makes me nervous as does the lack of improvement at center ice where they aren’t going to be the slightest better defensively or at the faceoff circle.
Barron is likely going to Hartford to play top line minutes every night while Chytil gets to either do or die.
It’s been talked to death…talked about until it’s risen from the grave…and then talked about so much more that it finally killed itself to not have to be a conversation anymore…BUT…there’s got to be a different element thrown in at center ice at some point. Whether it’s Strome or Zibanejad or Chytil or 2/3 if those guys- someone needs to go so that they can bring in a player that is strong where those guys are all weak.
Beez I for one have no problem with Hajek-Nemeth to start.
Third pair doesn’t have to be/shouldn’t be flashy. Just need to go out and be defensively responsible and keep their zone/the crease tidy.

We went to dinner in Williamsburg so I had to watch it on the DVR when I got back. Lots of the brunch crowd was out in Brooklyn last night. Sammy showed some skill last night in addition to getting hit with the puck in front of the net. There were some long sieges in the Ranger end last night. Hope that doesn’t happen when they have a full roster. Didn’t notice Broadway Joe much which is a good thing for a third pair D. Rooney got his spot on the roster last night. Kegger may be gong the other way. Now according to GG the last two kind of count. Let’s see if anything changes.
One thing is for sure in regards to trades…they’re not happening until Drury finds the right deal.
These kids on D aren’t owed big money and their waiver statuses aren’t complicated. They can all go play in Hartford while their value continues to increase.
Mckegg hadn’t played much NHL hockey since leaving the Rangers.
I think that was always a depth signing for insurance and nothing more.

Nils has been steady. Nothing flashy. Looks to be a good player. But he’s redundant. If one of the prospects is going to be the 6, the guy who’s game makes the most sense is Schneider. I don’t think that’s going to happen. Nils is a little more accomplished at this stage, but I think ultimately Schneider is going to be the better/more valuable player.
The brunch crowd does not root for the Rangers to be successful. The root against certain players, and for a select few players. They also have zero concept of team building.
James, Goodrow being on a line with Chytil will likely be enough to shore faceoffs enough on that line as you have have Goodrow take a draw if pinned in the d zone.
However as I said months ago, even if you brought in a new lockdown 3C (and we don’t have any such player in the system right now), that doesn’t do that much if Mika and Strome continue to be mediocre at the dot just given the number of faceoffs those two take given they will lead the team in ice time at the position, including pp for both and pk for Mika.
Drury couldn’t or wouldn’t make changes to Mika/Strome in the offseason and hard to see it happening during the season unless things go really badly and they are sellers at the deadline or a surprise name becomes available. So figure it’s most likely next offseason where at most only one of Mika and Strome is brought back

BDL, it doesn’t need to be Nils, but having two defenseman on the roster capable of running a pp isn’t redundant, especially with Fox not yet showing a willingness to shoot from the point. Miller and Trouba haven’t shown much on that front and neither Nemeth or Lindgren are going to play that role, so definitely think there is still room for jones or Nils on the current roster. Going forward there will be room for Schneider and Jones or Nils if they want as well as Nemeth is a placeholder. Also, no sure thing Miller has a longterm spot locked up, kid still needs to make big strides defensively in my opinion

I read Carp’s stories and read the comments. But I have to agree that the comments are not very interesting. I have also noticed that traffic has diminished significantly there. I think they have been bleeding subscribers. I have not cancelled my subscription because over all the sports I like to follow, I find their coverage good and their writers are not constrained by word limits, resulting in more in-depth stories. Katie Strang’s work is excellent, as is Pierre LeBrun’s. But the bloom is coming off the rose over there and for comments and discussion, this site is far better.

If the Rangers ran the PP with two Dmen running the show, like Leetch, and Zubov did, then yeah, Nils would have an important role. But for maybe 30 seconds on PP 2, I’d rather haver Schneider. Penalty killer. Can be hard to play against. Schneider brings an element they need.

Admittedly, some of the subject headings like “laff track or laff metre” etc are pretty ridiculous imho, and he’s definitely veered into the narrative lane…I miss the simple old numbered, bullet point, game reviews from days gone bye.

I have used the Athletic to follow the SF Giants this year. They have two articles a day and the writers (Baggarly and Brisbee) are good. Carp has been harping on the management change too much. He needs to move on. He is still in the first stage of grieving.

dont think there is someone telling Carp what to write at all, athletic model seems pretty hands off, to the point where they could use better editors a fair amount. and honestly if there was such a person calling the shots you’d think they’d want more content for a team like the rangers and someone who was at camp every day, etc.
Dom did say there are things his model can’t account for with players like Goodrow and Reaves, but think it’s on the margins to make that big an impact over the course of a season if such a player is otherwise on the ice for a ton of goals against, etc. And you don’t need advanced stats to know Glass or Reaves isn’t a guy you want dressed in clinching game or when you are down a game or two in a series (ie when Gallant himself scratched Reaves in Vegas and Deboers did the same). Gallant seems to know better, whereas AV did not

That reminds me of a night at trinity college where we tried some ambien and ended up walking the hallways of this long long dormatory. Just bouncing from the left wall to the right wall, back to the left wall. Completely offbalance and floaty. Like running in a dream.
Never used it since this time. My mother on the other hand became very dependent on them and would abuse them and it led to a lot of other things for her. I can’t even explain how much better she is doing now that she tapered off all the pharma stuff doctors were prescribing her for 15 years.

Recruited to play football there. Had my eyes set on using the situation to get a chance to do an internship with the Wolfpack.
Concussion issues and lack of preparedness both in offseason training for football and a general lack of preparedness to nagivate a college like that and not knowing what I had gotten into in terms of the type of school and the type of student body it was.
By September I had concussion issues, by October the coach told me to stop coming bc I had started self medicating with marijuana. I had already determined by then I was going home, I thought I wasn’t coming back for spring semester and my dorm pals talked me into at least coming back to spend the semester there. It was paid for.
But by the start of the spring semester I had screwed myself academically by having convinced myself I wasn’t coming back for the spring semester, that no matter what I did academically or to go back to the football team, they were gonna make me leave the school for a year before allowing to apply for reinstatement.
So I left. One of my best friends talked me into moving down to DC with him where another one of our friends was living and looking to get a new place. And two months later, my friend died of a tragic harmless accident, and that was that.
I was paralyzed for years. Sleptwalked through community college with like 3.8. Go to stony brook, decided to do a MBA in 5 years program they had. I was Gung go and loaded up on one too many courses. A journalism elective. 1.5 credit course. And when I recognized that my lack of attentiveness to the outside the class work due to the work I had on my work with the requirements and asked the professor to withdraw me so that I could come in that semester with 3.6 GPA that was required to enter the MBA program. And the professor; news 12 anchor forgot his name actually , said no, the reason why bc one time when he had Steve levy come into our class for an exercise wHere we’re ask him questions on an old case.
And I had really done my homework and asked him a question that was asked regarding levy’s handling of the situation back when it was going on. And cat caught his tongue, shocked he got asked that by some student and looks the professor and gives him a look like who is this guy, this isn’t what I expected and then the professor gives me a dirty look.
And the second he told me in person that he wouldn’t be withdrawing me from the class with a smile on his face. I knew why.
And that was the end of my college days. can’t make the 💩 up.

Oh yeah and in the middle of all that I got assaulted at a Mets game at Shea stadium where to hide liability they had arrested, where when trying to phone my mother from the cell phone that had a broken mouthpieces when asking guards to use a working phone to make my call to let her know I’m alright. I’m pulled of the cell and assaulted from behind, fight them off me, run through the hallways screaming for help, having cops running at me from one direction and the officers who assaulted me from the other direction as I’m screaming for help. One of the rulers transfer officers who assaulted me kicked my leg out from behind me causing me to face plant into a steel countertop which split open my head and as they are trying to pull me back, the nurse grabs me and says nope. He’s coming with me, he needs medical attention. She put in some call, had me taken to the hospital by an officer who was obviously the guy they sent in to be good cop and try to get the story of what had happened. My mother does what my mother was naturally good at. She found out what precinct Shea stadium arrests go to, called, got put on hold, finally the nurse gets on the phone and say the name of the hospital and that she needs to get down there as soon as she can. I’m given a cat scan and I see the results on the computer scene and the young guy at the computer pointing out a black spot on my brain the size of a small egg and the Asian doctor waving him off and walking out of the room. I’m sat in a quiet corner of a hallway in a wheelchair handcuffed in a daze scared 💩less that I’m about to ‘get lost’ and suddenly I hear ‘where is my son. Where are the doctors, where are the officers, where is my son and suddenly I see my mom down the hallway passing an intersection not seeing me but my sister right behind her. And she saw me and just ran over to me crying and I said don’t worry I’ll be fine now.
I get rushed back to the precinct put in my own cell. White suited officer comes to me asking the story and afterwards apologizing and telling me that wasn’t NYPD who did that to you. They let me out within a half hour but with a charge of attempted escape. Had to cover their zzzes. I get a lawyer and file a suit, they yo-yo me into court every 3rd week only to have me sit in the hallway all day before telling me my appearance has been postponed. Police department won’t provide the security footage. My boss is giving me a hard time about taking off from work, I’m all messed up from post concussion issues and just let the whole thing go; afterwards, I soon get a piece of mail saying the attempted escape charge was dropped.
And you wonder why I don’t buy anything anyone’s selling. Bc ive seen too much of how things really are.

It was my dad that instructed me to forget all the BS and anger and my desire to change the system and just set myself up to have some peace for a change and enjoy that, that I needed to experience that for a prolonged period of time to help change my view of what the world was and that I would be better prepared to help others and change things once I found peace for myself.
When he passed away I was hit with a feeling that he didn’t get to see me achieve much, partially bc I took his advice and forgo’ed ambition for the freedom to go about my life without the BS of men who don’t have other men in mind.
My dad had no answers for the stuff I went through as a teenager and in my early 20s. He just always gave me a place that felt like sanctuary.
My dads father ran out on them, his mom has a nervous breakdown from it, my dad and his sister in an orphanage for more than a year at 4 while this went on.
And he would say to me. Jonathan I thought I had such a rough upbringing, I can’t even fathom going through what you have. I’ve never seen someone go through all these crazy situations back to back to back.
I don’t know how you’ve dealt with it but make no mistake son. You are stronger than most, bc you have and the best is still yet to come for you. It may shape your life, but it’s not gonna define your life. Your my son, I’ve seen you everyday since the day your were born. I know it’s not gonna define you.
You better believe everything I went through shaped me, schooled me, prepared me. But no, it doesn’t define me. The only thing that defines me is the knowledge I wasn’t born into man made society. I was born into this creation of this creation.
And I have no illusions of the fraud that goes on all around us
It’s also why I say until you’ve had to fight for your life or felt like you were. You have no idea what it is to be in a fight.
And it’s also why I’ve never initiated or started or threw the first punch. Bc in the situations I was forced to fight for my life, moments where your gang assaulted and you have to fight off 3-4 men (wasn’t just once I was put in that situation), I learnt there’s a ferocity in me and a warriors spirit where im moving 3x faster than they can process and it’s over before it started. Legitimately like the dude from Troy. That’s how I fast and ferociously I’ve observed myself being in these situations The look of shock on these guys faces as it happens. To this day I can feel the energy and the actual physical things I did in those situations to protect myself. And I recognize it’s literally coded response. Put in that situation, that is how I am wired with survival instincts to become. And I mean when I say, knowing that made me learn to channel my anger differently. I knew I had to avoid confrontations bc it could quickly lead to me hurting someone and this wired fear that I could end up dealing with the system bc of it. Regardless if it was self defense.
I’m not gonna change the world that way. That’s not the way.
But that ferocity and that deep rooted need to stand up to injustice, it pours through every inch of my soul.
And there’s injustice everywhere
The Rangers could also take Reilly Smith,(instead of a 1st r.p.) along with Karlsson. Smith is only signed for this year @ $5. Karlsson is signed for 6 years at $5.9.
Pete’s correct when he says that big trades don’t tend to happen this time of year, but this is a different year. I think Drury makes a significant move or two.
While generally correct, there are exceptions to that rule. The Messier trade happened right after the first game of the season. Larmer was a week or so in to the season. And I think the Mike Rogers trade was right around this time. None of those are recent of course. And I still think it’s 50/50 that Strome is traded before the season starts.
Unless or until a trade is made or when Kravtsov returns this is how the Minx sees the top 12.

I think if it’s gonna be Kakko with bread and strome that Blais or kreider is our best complement for laffy/Mika.
Kreider will get 1st crack to see if he’s comfortable over there. But I would not be surprised to see Blais there and kreider moved to the 3rd line to create a really well put together 3rd line with chytil and goodrow
But I don’t see them keeping Barron here to play 4th line LW. Think that spot goes to hunt. Or reaves moves to LW and gauthier earns a chance on the RW

It’s been quiet on the Zibanejad front. That’s how Drury likes to work, but it does leave us to speculate.
Unpopular opinion: Zibanejad will hold us back from becoming a true contender due to his unwillingness to go to the dirty areas along with a tremendous cap hit. With that said… who the heck can/would you replace him and his regular season production with?!

Eichel isn’t a sure thing. His injury isn’t exactly an ingrown fingernail…. So, I don’t think you can bank on that.
It’s hard to judge if Mika’s scoring will translate in the post season since he hasn’t been in them since he’s been THIS type of player (which, by the way, is arguably a top 10 center in the league). And while no one will mistake him for Bergeron, he does kill penalties and is an integral part of the PP that has been 21% efficient the last 3 years.
That doesn’t mean re-sign him at any cost, but you’d have to replace a lot of important scoring and TOI.
If I were to bear my sole, I’d only be carrying fish.

I don’t doubt that there is some smoke to the fire lit by Lehner. Certainly baseball and football have in the past had similar types of issues though I think both are pretty well regulated now by league offices. But it is always perilous to make a case based on anecdotes.

Meeka is a top 10 *SCORING* center in the league who is turning 29 in April with some injury and, ahem, ‘commitment’ issues.
If he was a top 10 center that could dominate 200 ft fo ice in the playoffs, you open the vault; but he has not shown to be that. Throw ~ $8-9M on to the books for him, add $11.6 for Bread and ~$8-9M speculated for Fox and you have another possible Cap nightmare. It could be managed but limits some options moving forward.
These are highly talented players but you really may only afford 2 top 10 contracts at their respective positions, esp if Cap is flat over next 2-3 years.
To put it another way, they had the Norris Trophy winner, the top LW and one of the top scoring centers last seasons and did not sniff the postseason. It take a skill AND a complete roster to win the Spring.
Laffy gets the red face reminiscent of Fedotenko.
Pretty soon if you make ten million in NY, you are charged a 5 million $ surcharge off the bat, then are subject to 70%+ tax on what’s left.

I’d take strome for mid term…5 or 6 years and $5 or $6 mil per over Meeka any day.
You fill the second top 6 centre spot with a guy that is a solid 200’ centre that has offencive upside. The strength of this team is on the wings and d so they need to enhance it with solid two way guys at the muddle 6 centre positions.
You can deal with one centre that isn’t stellar at 200’ or draws but not 2 or 3 out of the top 3 line centres.
The rangers can survive with wingers that can slip in for draws at times, especially vital ones.
Eichel would throw this “plan” opinion of mine right out the window though, and I do think eichel is worth it.

The athletic article about players over 30 has me extremely worried about the back end of a contract given to Meeka at this age.
He will be extremely hard to replace for what he can give the next couple years. But age 32 and up would have high risk of becoming albatross.

I’m totally with wicky on this. If Mika wants to stay and play here. He has to come in under 7.5 bc he’s not gonna live up to a big ticket. He’s gonna be streaky and dissappear in certain games.
And you want to know why I feel that way. Bc he gives off the body language and energy that he knows that’s the case. You hear it in his doubt in certain answers he gives.
Pressure gets to him. You want to play without pressure sign under market so the expectations are different for you, or go somewhere else.

You seek huge money and term. You bettter know your able to match it with your impact in the biggest games against the hardest teams. My life was alil too ‘interesting’ for awhile.
I wouldn’t wish it upon anyone. And honestly it’s why I want to see change. Bc I don’t want anyone to ever go through what I did. I don’t want anybody’s family to be affected by a family member who went through the stuff I did.
My youngest sister was 4 years old when the crazy parts began. My middle sister was 10. My mom developed issues from it that afflicted her for 20 years. It put so much stress on my family that it indirectly led to my parents getting divorced.
No family should have all their lives altered by a system that isn’t interested in the truth, and strong arms people into whatever a judge/lawyer feel like any given day based upon there moods or personal interests/relationships.
I had to plead guilty to something I didn’t do bc the family court judge (nys family court back in the day: judge was judge jury and executioner) was friends with the father of someone who’s wife forced their daughter into lying bc she didn’t want to admit she was hooking up with a boy at school. I had a principle who saw me and the girl leaving together after the alleged incident; in fact walked with us to the door, and then instead of telling the mother that thought he could make it go away by saying it’s a matter for the police and not a school matter. The mom saw $ signs and I was collateral damage in a lawsuit against the school district. My entire family was.
By the end of the situation. I had both the judge and the principal apologizing to me and saying they would do anything they could to help me out.
Except it was too late. The judge actually told my lawyer and family the only way I was getting out was to plead guilty. I was assaulted in the holding cell by 3 guys bc they were spitting on officers jackets hanging on hangers across from the cell and when the officers said if you guys keep doing that no one is seeing the judge today. So I said flat out, I got no part in this, move me into a different cell. The kids jumped me for that. That was over before it started and when the officer came over to see what the commotion was, I just said ‘ I F’ing told you to get me out of here’ news spread up into the courtroom of what happened; my lawyer told my parents, and said look the only way to ensure he gets out right now is to plead. So I plead. My mom got removed from the courtroom bc when I was actually pleading she ran up towards the desk, yelled ‘ how can you make someone admit to something they didn’t do, what is this’
Well that guilt plea, it allowed the mother to file a motion to keep me out of school. A year and half. From dec of my sophomore year to sept of my senior year.
The damage was done. Damage that shaped every member of my family, that changed the family permanently.
So interesting… yeah quite interesting to anyone whoever heard the story.
That principal was never able to look me in the eye again. Years worth of seeing me. School events for my sisters, their graduations. They guy could never do anything but hang his head when I would make eye contact with him.
Why: bc during the situation I said to him. You walked out with us. You saw us. You walked me and that girl to the door. How could you have let this happen instead of telling the truth about that.
Bc there was a lawsuit and the school board muzzled him. He admitted that to be the case
And I said to him, this happened to me and my entire family has gone through this bc someone told you what you could and couldn’t say. What about the truth?
He had no answer and he was never able to look at me again.
But just like everything in my life. I walked through it and in the end it all went away. Bc I had the truth on my side.
I would and wouldn’t change anything that happened. I would bc it breaks my heart to this day how the situation effected my sisters development and lives and my parents.
And I wouldn’t. Bc I wouldn’t be who I am now. I probably would have been a big high school football somebody and gone d1 and just been a meat head or more to the point. Naive, blind to the way the world is really run and by which and why$x
Why do I share this stuff.
Bc it’s the kind of stuff that happens to people every day and it’s the kind of thing people want to pretend only happens to people who deserve it. People who want to naively believe this country is a fair place and there’s nothing wrong with the country’s infrastructure and institutions.
We’re lied to everyday and it’s based on the fact that you can’t prove it to be the case.
But hearing stories such as mine. You can’t make the 💩 up, so as uncomfortable as it is to hear it, it’s shining light on the dark truth about society. It’s not about right and wrong.
It’s about power, authority, and money. And that’s not what government and judges and public servants etc etc etc are supposed to be looking out for.
That’s why I don’t blame people who can’t fathom or want to believe how much we’re lied to. We’re brought up to believe laws are in place to look out for you, that laws and cops are there to protect you from injustice.
And that’s not what is going on in this country and the world as a huge.

Oh it has e3. And I didn’t wish that on them. I ended up at the same community college as the girl. And one time she came up to and said I’m so sorry for what I did to you. I should have stood up to my mom. The mom overheard her talking to friend on the phone (a friend who had a crush on me, she was bragging to her) and when the mom heard she was fooling around in school, the girl initially said she didn’t want to. That it was me.
When the mother went into the school. The principal called the girl down and the girl started crying saying mom what are you doing.
That’s when the principal said they should go home and discuss it and if anything it’s a matter for the police. He assumed they wouldn’t. But the mom had $ signs in mind
But that’s enough of that.
Combo of being in my hometown emptying my dads place, a lot of coffee to get done everything I had to get done in 3 days and the backlash/response that lehner was receiving for speaking up about something that’s obviously true.

I’ll tell you what. It was stupid of drury to give up the 3rd rounder for reavo. Not trading for reavo or even giving up the equlicant value of a 3rd. But the 3rd rounder needed to do an offer sheet in the under 10.25m tier.
We traded Howden to them for 4th and then gave them our 3rd for reavo. How did drury let that happen. Howden and a 4th for reavo would have been better than giving up the 3rd rounder which took away their ability to do that offer sheet tier without getting it back from Vegas.
I realized this the moment Pete brought up that 3rd rounder. And I didn’t want to say it.

I want to clarify my thoughts regarding Mika.
I love the guy. If I were a kid, he’d be my favorite player just like kovalev was. When mika’s on fire, he’s one of the coolest hockey players on the planet.
But I’m not a kid anymore and I see the full picture, I’ve been watching this sport, I’ve been observing people and their body language and words my whole life.
I want him and every guy to have the confidence to say with conviction that they believe in themselves and they give it their all and they can play with anyone.
Yet I know that he knows, when the game is played a certain way or their are areas he should be going that doesn’t bc he doesn’t want to get hurt and not able to play, he’s not as effective.
And in the big picture that’s ok. But it also means, he should know he doesn’t want to have the expectations of a 9-10m player who is expected and will judged on performing in those situations against those teams best players.
That is of course, if the most important thing to him is playing with this team and living in this city and trying to win for the city.
Like Mika on 7/8 yr 9-10m per deal. If he’s being honest to himself, does he think he’s gonna live up to the expectations that come along with that deal. Can he not see how bad things could turn for him. We all see the way ranger fans turn on guys based upon performance. At those terms, the chance that it doesn’t turn sour for him is slim.
Yet if he’s honest with himself about all of the above and recognizes like hey you know what I myself feel much more comfortable being looked at as a 7-7.5m guy. That spotlight suits me. I know the expectations that come with 9-10m and I know how hard it will be to justify that salary. Well at those terms, the chances that he becomes beloved is pretty good. Bc at those terms, the expectations are tempered, he gains a lot of love for coming in at that range. It’s a high salary for a 2C but it’s 2C money, which means money can be spent to bring in a guy who can take the load off Mika in the situations Mika tends to not thrive in, giving him a different matchup. If we have Mika and a complete two way center who can play against the hardest teams 1st D pairing to allow Mika to go about after the 2nd wave. Plus everyone we also have. There’s a good chance that team wins big. And Mika becomes beloved.
So if it sounds like I don’t like Mika. It’s more I don’t like the premise of 8..5-10million on a long term deal that ties all our success to Mika.

Has Lehner ever played on an AV team? There is no doubt that there are and have been NHL coaches who have been destructive to the lives of their players, but, I don’t understand why he decided to target AV since he has little or no first hand experience with him. It’s early, but, so far there has been no collaboration of his rather vague accusations. I tend to take him with a groan of salt.
Bow seasons kids. Which means lazy hunters who leave bambi near the hiking trail where people’s dogs can smell fresh dinner.
Nothing like starting the day pulling a huge chunk out of fido’s mouth. Glad he has some lab in him, my border collie would have taken my hand off for trying to take red meat away.
