Good that was awful to watch…i lasted 30 minutes and even that felt like 20 too much. Please tell me we aren’t going to be this bad??
They looked sloppy in all zones, the defense was as tough as in Da Beauty League and Shesterkin needs to get an eye test.
    Just awful.

    Hire Sather!!

Didn’t see the game. Just the STATS. Saw that Trouba and Miller were both minus 4. Guessing since +- is a meaningless STAT, that they both played really well, and were victims of some bad luck?

Maybe Jacques Martin is the defense whisperer. And we canned him after a very good season on that side of the bench.

I hope Turk gets his shhh. It together.

This game has made me sick.

I’m getting this feeling that it’s gonna be a lonnnnng season. (Get ready to be leapfrogged by the Derbils this year, btw.)

I don’t think its “overreacting” to be concerned with this atrocious start to the preseason as some may have suggested. I’m sorry, but the other teams are ALSO icing JV teams… not just us. So, when they beat us 4-0, 7-1…. thats a problem. We barely beat a complete that shell of a Bruins team the other night!

Not telling anybody to not feel the way they do. Me, I’m not concerned at all Gallant is a good coach, with a very good track record. He has flat out said that he will using the first 4 games to give people a chance, and experiment with the lines.

    Eli,
That’s with every team. If the goaltending is crap, so is the team. Igor has a lot to prove. I’m a believer.

My concern is Meeka. If he is going to spend his O zone time on the perimeter, and only generate O off the rush, this team will not do any meaningful winning. Meeka needs to put his big boy pants on. Go to the net. Go to the dirty areas. Get knocked on his ass. Knock someone else on their ass. Things a true number one center/top 10 player do.

Not quite in the Weatherman camp…yet…but we do look like garbage out there and it is true that the other teams are experimenting too.

So Barron was 5-2 at the dot. Mika 7-5. THE 3-3. And then Chytil 4-5, Goodrow 4-6 and McKegg 4-7. The sad thing is 44% is an improvement for Chytil.

I’ve been saying it from day one, trouba is not a good defensemen. Yes he is physical at times but my eye test tells me he is not a good skater and tends to run around in his own zone and regarding Miller, not impressed with his game either. I understand it takes time on the backend to reach the ceiling but I don’t see what the rangers saw in Miller. It comes down to the rangers having done a poor job of drafting. The only thing that has saved these picks is they got lucky in the lottery 2 years in a row. Hopefully the new guy they hired to run the drafting and development of player personnel does a better job than Clark has done.

BDL, Meeka is what he is, not going to change and why I would not give him a expensive long term deal.

Let’s see how the last three go. There’s plenty of time to panic. No need to climb out onto the ledge yet. Miller is a concern to me. I could see him headed to Hartford if this continues when the games count. He will make the team based on the first half of last season-not what he has done since.

  20. tommyG Avatar
    tommyG

also, not sold on Shesterkin, he played for the best team in the khl which helped him look great. My eye test tells me the islanders drafted the better russian goalie.

    Crazy money still out there … Q. Hughes, all 5’10” 180lbs of him, 6yr @ $7.85M per. 129 games 11G 86A.

Must be nice to be 21. That must be this half * blog’s problem – everyone is 26 instead of 21!

Everybody blames Trouba for Miller’s screw-ups, even the Devil announcers. Is everyone blind? ‘All the tools’ my Azz!
‘Have fun out t here,’ my azz. I worked all day and I”LL have fun out there, not you! This is your job. Think and sweat! Gallant sounding too much like Pierre for my taste.

bobbyo2019, no doubt islanders play a better defense but I haven’t yet seen the islanders goalie give up any softies since he has played for the islanders, can’t say that about Shesterkin, has tendencies to give up softies.

So far my expectations for Goodrow seem to have been too high

Let’s hope the vet can ramp it up when meaningless preseason games are over

Faceoff numbers are wierd. I could have sworn I saw the win more faceoffs than 3

Granted I didn’t watch the third period

  32. cregg7 Avatar

Goat boy is making a case to stick around

He may be able to mold his game to be a 4 th liner who fan draw some penalties and pot an occasional goal while pressuring the other team with forecheck and speed through the neutral zone.

I hope they don’t give up on him.

Maybe then we aren’t playing a heavy team or if it’s b2b he plays instead of Reaves.

Can we just end the Chytil experiment already?

He’s made for the big rink. How management can’t see that is beyond me. The game gets tighter, he disappears.

I’m a firm believer the team has been trying to make him into something he isn’t bc he was “part of the rebuild” and Lias never worked out….. so… they had to bear SOME fruit from that draft.

I’ll give Mika a preseason pass but hard to imagine he will become more physical in his walk year. They should put him on RW opposite Bread with Stromeo. Would better balance lines for two way hockey for other 3 lines.

Kreider and the coaches need to better define his role on this team and it can’t change every 20 games or so.

He’s not known for his defensive play. He used to score a lot on breakaways so that his speed was a weapon. He’s good at screening the goalie on the power play and deflecting pucks in. He’s big and string enough that he’s capable of being a physical presence, but that part of his game seems to come and go. Agree with Wick that the Carey Price collision all those years ago messed with his head. I want to see Kreider engaged on a more consistent basis and having more fun. I don’t see him as a captain and he’s not the most important player on this team, but he’s a leader and has a big role to play, even if he lands on the 3rd line.

  60. Bdl Avatar
    Bdl

Kreider should be the least of everybody’s worries. He’s gonna give you 25. He’s going to be the best puck retriever on the team. He’s going to do the dirty work in front of the net. Year in, year out, that’s what you get from Kreider.

  61. tomk19 Avatar
    tomk19

BDL-100% agree that they have bigger issues, but Kreider can, should, (and I believe) will be more consistent and will make the team better.

I guess a lot of the vets didn’t want to travel to Boston. Lots of guys trying to make the team are playing which kind of makes sense. Let’s see if they can hold them to 3 or 4 tonight. They also will have a hard time time scoring with no Beard or Zika. 3 to 1 would be a moral victory. More likely 4 or 5. I’ll be out and check it out on the DVR with liberal use of the FF feature.

  63. SN Avatar
    SN

Would like to see Kreider opposite Bread for a spell. He could retrieve pucks and occupy D in front to create more space for Bread.

Meeka’s game fits well with good passers cause he has a shoot first mentality. Laffy would be a natural, maybe Kakko or Goodrow on other side.
