Watching the first few games of the playoffs and the way the games are played….a battle for every loose puck, a war in front of the net and along the wall, no space to fly through the neutral zone, coincidental minor penalties the rage because the officials don’t have the bawls to put a team down a man……..
As for acquiring the right type of player suited for playoff hockey, I would give the Gorton / JD tandem a grade of F.

    I’m glad they are gone.
    I hope Drury gets it.

The deals that frustrate me were O’Reilly, Kadri, Trocheck, and PLD. Any of them could have changed the fate of this thing dramatically.
O’Reilly was traded for a relatively reasonable package in the summer of ’18. Kadri was a hockey trade with Barrie as the center piece and had term left on a reasonable salary, Trocheck went for three prospects and they took on Haula then let him walk.
PLD went for two legit pieces and probably would have been tough to match.

At the end of the day Gorton didn’t have any interest.

Coos the worst part about McQuaid was that they let him go as a rental and he took a cheap shot and was done in by it.
Career over, concussion issues for McQuaid, nothing to show for the trade by either team and another hole that needed plugging on the Rangers’ roster. Talk about a damn shame across the board.

I’m annoyed with the lack of movement in the draft to get the right guys (I’m talking moves of less than ten spots) and the inability to get trades done for guys (like Bennett or kadri or marchment etc) by over valuing that extra mid round puck it might have cost…couple that with the organization’s inability to identify the kind of players you actually need to be successful and then acquire them….and it has turned into this under the hedgehog’s “stewardship”

Yzerman extended Jeff Blashill. He seems to be following the Jeff Gorton slow rebuild model. I’ll say this about Yzerman, he missed on a lot of high picks in Tampa, but he hit on a lot of them too. Brayden Point and Kucherov in particular, but others as well. Traded Drouin for Sergachev. Just looked up his Tony D. trade. He traded a young DeAngelo to Arizona for their 2nd round pick in 2016. With that pick, Yzerman picked Libor Hajek. Lol.

Rangers were taking zegras at 6OA if they didn’t move up to 2

And the rangers were gonna take lundell at 12-13 if they didn’t move up to #1.

It’s ironic actually, if we didn’t luck into the lottery, we would have the centers and be pining for some wingers

    Honestly honestly honestly.

I don’t buy for a second that an elite forward who’s big and skates well can’t make the move to center from the wing. My entire life I felt this way. Guys should be able play either wing and if guys are elite and top players they should be able to play center.

I’d move kravtsov or laffy to center for a full season and see how it looks at the end of it. Personally

  15. tomk19 Avatar
    tomk19

JPP-Torts moved Pierre Luc Dubois to center when he was only 19. Played with Panerin and Josh Anderson. I’d say that worked out pretty well.

  16. tomk19 Avatar
    tomk19

Just to clarify, the part about moving PLD to center worked out well. Ironically, not one of those guys is still in Columbus, including Torts.

    I mean honestly.

The idea the best hockey players in the world, and I mean the best of them can’t shift over to center.

Or the concept that you determine at 18, 19, 20, that the kid is a winger and it’s too late in his development or something to make the switch.

I think it’s one of the more brain dead elements to hockey philosophy

Gotcha Wick, still don’t know understand by what metric Lias was deemed to be the most NHL ready. Guy screamed bottom 6C from the start.

If Laf or Kravtsov is learning center it likely be in Hartford for at least awhile and that presents potential issues for both (ie does Kravtsov still have an out to KHL), including from an optics perspective of putting Laf in Hartford to learn a new position different from the one he was just drafted first overall. Me thinks Dolan wouldn’t love or have the patience for that one.

If they had Zegras and Lundell they’d still have Kravtzov and probably would have had the balls to convert Chytil to wing by now on a permanent basis. Add Barron to that mix and the roster is definitely more balanced going forward.

Then you should have been doing bob McKenzie’s and Craig button’s and various other talking heads at that draft because after the pick they were all saying he was the most nhl ready centre available.

You’re debating the wrong topic with the wrong person. I was merely pointing out the consensus of the talking heads on Lias being the most nhl ready centre.

You should be debating with the hedgehog about why pick the most nhl ready centre if you’ve got thus “grand plan” for long term success instead of next few years. Tell him to pick the more talented guy that would be a better nhl centre that had time to develop in the system before fitting into the “grand plan” down the road…

I almost drove off the road when they attempted to sit him up and he keeled back while his legs were folded underneath him. That was an ugly moment. Where I normally just listen and take glances, it sucked me in as it happened was like a 1.5 and it made me do a full body shiver and then I felt the rumble strips

I know the Toronto trainers were panicked and it happened fast. But they know better than to try sitting him up right away after he was unconscious.

The post has an article on a famous college baseball game. It’s the 40 year anniversary of it. Yale vs Saint Johns. It famous because two future major league pitchers went head to head throwing 11 innings of shutout baseball. Frank Viola for Johns, and Ron Darling for Yale. Darling threw 11 innings of no hit baseball in the game. Why I am I bringing this up on a Rangers blog you ask? Because of this trivia question. Who was the Yale short stop?

The idea that Gorton and JD knew the team was going to do something about it this off-season is utter garbage. There was no reason to put a team out there that was one dimensional. If you needed to add tougher placeholders, you do it,(last year and the 2 years before that), but the idea that first you build with all skill and then, once that’s all done, you begin to add will,
is a losing equation. Build a winning culture. Develop the younger guys. Build with balance. Find guys who are leaders and at least one who deserves to wear a “C”

Guys this happened to Tavares at like 830 pm and I didn’t post until like 230 am when I got home and was reading the blog.

And believe me I am so dialed in when driving. I basically have the game on, but I’m listening to it like it’s the radio. I steal a glance the same manner in which you steal a glance at your gps.

Come on guys. Logically think through what I mean.

And by drive off the road I exgarrated to emphasis how uncomfortable a situation what happened was. I was In the right hand lane, looked over and got locked in for 2 seconds and felt the rumble strips as I momentarily into the shoulder.

I mean don’t act like you guys don’t do this every single day changing your radio stations or turning on a podcast or looking at your console screen to see who’s calling through Bluetooth, or to look into your mirror to look back at your kid.

Don’t kid yourselves no one out there have a better a handle on the road than me. You have no idea how dialed in I am, it’s a whole nother mode. It’s like I’m the captain of my ship. I got 377k on my car. I bought it with 196k in November of 2017. It’s a 2003. So in 4 years time, I doubled the miles that were put on the car in its first 14 years. That tells you how much I drive and I haven’t gotten so much as a ticket, let alone an accident. I understand the flow of the road and traffic and driver dynamics like I do hockey, it’s man hours spent.

I’m the type of driver who sees people losing control of their lanes in front of me and about cars like 6 inches from side swiping each other, I’m the one giving a beep or a flash of the brights to alert them to what’s about to happen.

If I ever post while driving it’s bc there’s literally no one else on the road and I don’t see headlights in front of me or behind me, it’s just road. But even so most times I send a string of posts as I stop whether it’s gas or food, or letting the dogs do their business or my own.

Come on guys. You know how many people I pass a day who are like going 10-15 mph below the flow of traffic In the passing lane and I gotta pass them on the right and as I pass they got the phones right in front of their steering wheels really texting while driving.

Also remind yourselves roads and driving a lot of the country it’s nothing like what it is in the tri-state area. Roads are bigger, winder, larger lane, 10x less cars. What you think of texting and driving or me having a game on a screen while I drive, is not what I am doing. Your viewing it through the lenses of what you think that looks like.

But I totally understand it and I’m happy to explain it so there you guys understand and other impressionable people who may read it understand I am not watching tv as I drive, I am not sitting there texting. I’m twitchy lookin sizing up what’s going on in front of me on the road, what’s coming from behind, what do I have on the sides of me. When I need to, my head is on a swivel processing everything that you need to on the road.
