Good morning, boneheads!
Didn’t see that coming. Five unanswered goals? Really? After this lethargic start and two goals down by the time it was barely over 4 minutes into the game? Raise your hand if you saw them pull this off.
Igor Shesterkin did his part after they went down by two, and that was the most important part of this comeback. He was solid. Didn’t have to be spectacular, but made so many important and timely saves. You know when he is on his game when he gobbles the pucks up without any rebounds.
Kaapo Kakko. Might’ve been his best game in NY yet. Even without the GTG ( an easy tap in off of a beautiful tic-tac-toe play between Panarin and Strome) he was a force carrying the puck in the O-zone, giving Washington defense all kinds of trouble and winning board battles. He is learning how to use his big body. And he is also thriving because he was given more responsibilities. I’ll give Quinn a lot of credit for understanding that. Maybe Lafreniere can earn that too, sooner rather than later.
Mika and Kreider both had a quiet night. But Zibanejad was very noticeable defensively. Though his FO% is still wanting.
Remember Pavel Bure and his frequent cherry picking? I think I’d let Panarin do the same, especially when the game isn’t close and they need a goal or two. I wonder how many Panarin breakaways end up in the net. Something tells me a lot. Panarin is also one of the better players I’ve seen who can avoid a check and who can steal pucks from almost anyone in any position. Oh, and he can pass even when there is no pass available. My goodness, his passes to both Strome and Fox were out of this world.
The more I see Strome play the more I think there is no reason to trade him. With all his shortcomings ( some are imaginary ) they are simply not getting anyone better who can replace him at the moment.
Chytil is still far from his pre-injury form despite that goal that started this come back. But it’s a start.
I’d like to know what Lindgren did/said that triggered Wilson’s outrage. I didn’t see it. Anyone?
Lastly, explain to me this. It’s all about NHL talent evaluation. Two most skilled players on the team. One was a third rounder and another one was undrafted. Why do they even have so many scouts all over the world?

Hey congratulations to Uncle Stromeo!
Dylan and his girlfriend had a healthy baby girl yesterday.
Gorts will have to pay up a little something for the college fund
Great, great game!
My wife and I took our 7 year old son for his first ever Rangers game, and he was not disappointed! Kid had a ball, and hopefully, something he never forgets. 🙂
Watching last night’s game makes you wonder why the Rangers aren’t in playoff position.
KZB did not have a good night, Craps put the checking line against them, which helped open it up for others.
Mika had a bad night in all 3 zones IMHO until the last minute for the all important 5th goal. Frankly he was back to the outside-in game where he doesn’t want to get his nose dirty. Not a 7x$8M kind of night…
Kakko staring to realize he needs to play a straightforward game to be effective; save the fancy stuff for when you have time and space.
Shesty was the key; nothing else matters if he (and the post) don’t keep the puck out of the net in the first half of the game.
The 4th line played really well save for the penalties; Blackwell in particular played well; energizer bunny type player, keeps skating and charging the puck
Carp blamed Kreider ( what else is new) for the second Caps goal. It was Zibanejad who was jus pushed out of the way by Dowd who was at fault. That and Smith ending up behind the net after taking out his man.
Second goal by Caps ref swallowed his whistle. Reminded me of so many interminable scrums in front of Lundqvist during playoffs that ended up in the net
My brother mentioned this, and I wasn’t sure if I actually saw it or just wanted to, but both Kakko and Lafrenier looked faster on their skates.
Lafrenier gets himself in to trouble sometimes because he tries to make an O play from anywhere on the ice. Sometimes you just need to play the puck up the boards.
I think, if and when Kravstov plays, he will replace Gauthier. Howden will replace Phil D.
BDL – very true re goal; if you watch the review, Mika is playing patty cakes in front and not tying up man while Kreider comes in and lays out Dowd just after he poked it in. If Selma and Mika just focus on tying up man in front of them and not fishing for pucks, no goal. It’s a play you see very often, players looking for puck instead of focusing on oppponent.
The ref lost sight of puck and should have been a whistle but water under the bridge.
LAF made a great play in 3rd using speed and smarts to come back to make play on puck to keep it in the offensive zone. Led to a pretty long possession at a time they needed to kill the clock.
My 13 year old started lacrosse last week and had the first night of Bantam try-outs last night. I missed both Ranger games over the weekend. Got home in time for the 3rd period last night which was an awesome win; one that Admiral and his family will never forget!
Agree with ILB about not trading Strome. There just aren’t that many quality centers out there. Gorton should have drafted at least one more NHL center in his time as GM and he should try to draft one this year. (Sell what can be sold in before April 12th)
If there’s anyone who knows Jack Eichel and his character, I’m guessing it’s Quinn. I wanted to move on from Quinn and still don’t think he’s the solution, but his opinion should help in deciding whether to pull off that kind of potential block-buster this summer. It sounds like they put an offer out there last year so it wouldn’t surprise me if Gorton will continue to explore the possibilities.
I’ll say it again, the Rangers have the Caps’ number this season. The talking heads on NHL network radio started the whole ‘well Washington has been so good as of late this is kind of a mulligan”
Well, the Rangers have taken 4 of the 6 games in regulation from them this year and the Caps have only lost 8 times in regulation. That’s half for you non math majors.
Admiral,
It probably sounds silly but I can’t even begin to tell you how happy it makes me to hear that your son will have that game as his first memory of being at MSG.
I remember my first game like it was yesterday. 7-5 loss to the Whalers. Score wasn’t as important as being there with my dad. So I hope you’re in a good mood all day after that!
It’s too bad the Rangers don’t play the pens they way they do the craps. I hate the pens!
Now….Adam Fox. I know some of you guys are/were very high on Tony D. I know that Fox isn’t as flashy on the PP. But you have to admit that the dude is something fierce. Someone (really can’t remember who) made a comment maybe a week or so ago about Fox needing to add more offense to his game. I think that’s a little off base at this point.
It hit me last night that the best way to attempt to retain Strome is to mirror the Kreider contract. 7 years. 45 million. big signing bonus. cap hit of 6.5 per. Just get it done. Zibanejad is the guy that is going to require work and harder negotiation if they want to keep him.
His name fits his style of play perfectly The Fox! Amazing pass by Panarin on the Sly Fox backhander?
I’m not sure how much longer they plan to wait before getting Kravtsov into a game but the longer they rate the less of a chance that they’ll see what they want to see from him. You can’t keep a guy from playing this long and then expect him to jump into an NHL game and impress. Especially in the bottom six.
If we retain Strome and Zibanajad, the question remains…. where is the beef?
Bobby-Same question goes if they decide to bring in Eichel.
I don’t think they are bringing in Eichel though ….Barkov or bust
James- I don’t disagree about Eichel. I’ve got serious questions about him and his game. I can’t help but wonder if Gorton thinks that Eichel’s got enough character to be brought into a new setting and grow into the player he was thought to be when he was drafted 2nd overall.
The key for Gorton in the off is not whether to keep Stromeo and Zibanejad because I think both should stay, but finding that 3rd line patch up grtty center who can win a face off and still have an offensive up side. Obviously easier said than done, but absolutely necessary.
In a shocking turn of events, BDL and SN agree Mika didn’t have a good game 🙂
My opinion on Strome coming into this year was show me last year wasn’t a fluke. He has.
LMAO, Gravy
DiGuiseppe’s a pending UFA. What would he bring back in a trade? Another 4th round pick?
Tom, that may be. But if they put that faith into Eichel and it doesn’t pan out then it’s a 10 million dollar mistake.
Not to mention once a player like him has the same issues with a second team, it confirms that he’s probably never going to be more than what he is. That means his trade value diminishes.
I think DiGuiseppe walks in the offseason. They have Blackwell signed for another year and they’ll need the roster space for Barron.
Gorton’s real challenge isn’t to avoid becoming the Sabres. It’s to avoid becoming the Flames. The end goal here isn’t a Presidents’ses Trophy.
The other issue is Buchnevich. Decisions have to be made in regards to whether this is him performing in a contract year (the way he watched his buddy Kreider do last season and I’m sure has discussed with him) or if this is the Buch that is here to stay.
I’ve always liked the guy. My heart wants to believe it’s the second one but my instincts tell me it’s the first.
Some players I notice because they are bad, some I notice because they are good. I literally never know when DG is playing (except when he takes offensive zone penalties). He’s as vanilla as they come.
He seemed to have a grittier element to his game last season, Gravy. I didn’t mind him. I still don’t really. Just no room at the Inn at this point.
I don’t know why certain players get passes from the refs while others are focused upon and punished. You would think the slew footing would be something that the men in stripes look out for, yet we see it often. There were at least 2 of them last night (Chara, Wilson) that were not called. Also, how many times have we seen goals disallowed because the refs lose sight of the puck and blew the whistle or were going to blow the whistle? WTF was Hebert doing last night? Of course, the same could be said of the Rangers defense allowing the Caps players to be upright in the crease. As for Adam Fox……what a player. He is going to make a lot of money in his career.
some people watch the puck, others watch the game….
Digger is replaceable, no doubt but leads the team in hits/game and plays a very honest game; not exciting for the fanboys, but the players appreciate it. he also has more assists than the generational talents playing on 4th line FWIW.
Kakko started playing better when he realized this was the NHL, not the finnish elite league. his stats are way down from last season but he is playing much smarter hockey. Keep it simple and finnish!
* While playing on the 4th line
Kysymys Kakko on, onko hänen äskettäinen näytelmänsä pitkäaikainen vai vain tulipalo hänen perseensä alla, koska Kravtsov on tulossa pian.
If I had to take a stab at it I’d think his stats (Kakko) are way down from last season because he’s been on the Covid protocol list twice and apparently had covid the second time around.
Considering that and the lack of camp I don’t think the drop off in stats is all that bad. 23 last year. Pro-rate this season as of today* and he’s at about 16 points. That’s about the same as Hayes had from freshman to sophomore year.
Di Gi is a UFA. I’d prefer they keep him over Howden but the reality of the situation is they like Howden. No room at the Inn.
Digger was good last night but if they can get a decent pick for him great.
and while Kakko was engaged last night and scored a tap in…he still needs to shoot the damn puck …always an extra move and when he does shoot its taking too long
TYM, Hebert is probably worst ref in NHL so we should cut him some slack
we can all post mock lineups. but how many games are they all healthy. a guy like Dig gives good depth. if I remember correctly, last year he was in ahl for quite a while. so i’d be more than fine signing him for depth, possibly even ahl depth. pretty good chance he wouldn’t be claimed if sent down when all teams are trying to get down to roster limits.
who knows if there will be taxi squad next year. if there is once a guy clears waivers they can move back and forth for a while.
James – Buch has improved each season – the worst you can say is that the sample size this year is small, last year was 7/8 a full season. Even averaging the last 166 games (from 2018) he’s at 0.70 pts/gm, full year 57. Doesn’t seem unreasonable that he starts putting up 65-75 pts a season if we ever have full seasons again.
2016-17: 0.20 g/gm, 0.49 pt/gm
2017-18: 0.19, 0.58
2018-19: 0.33, 0.59
2019-20: 0.24, 0.68
2020-21: 0.41, 0.94
Guys like DiG and Honeywell are great as 12th or 13th forwards, but should not be more than that on an nhl team.
I’d prefer to have players in the line up that have an impact aspect to their game in addition to solid play in 3 zones. Those guys are hard to find.
Let me expand on Beezle’s stats for a precise rate since ppg is a bit misleading (not intentionally by him obviously)
2016-3.6
2017-3.8
2018-3.9
2019-4.0
2020-4.9 (current)
As you can see Buch was scoring at a low end nhl 2nd line rate (or extremely high 3rd line rate)the first 4 years, this season he’s scoring at an extremely high 2nd line rate that is borderline first line (remember, nhl first line scoring rate is 5.0).
Couple that with Buch and his 200’ play and he’s has more grit than many of you give him credit for, he’s a tough player to part with IMO.
I find it more than a little hilarious that all the fans that picked this team to be a lottery ball team this year prior to the season starting are the same ones that get so bent out of shape and freak out if they lose.
I just don’t get it.
In other words, Buch falls into that tricky category of “you can argue that he’s average but the reality of it is that he carries more value to this team thanks to the way the roster is constructed”
Those are the types they rarely do a good job of replacing. Boyle, McQuaid, Pouliot, Prust, Miller…
James I think he would be valuable on most any team. Questions are – will he a) sustain the point and 200′ play and b) can he continue to expand on it. To me he has solidified his place in the league as a good 2R but not sure he has quite earned the 1R. Still quite a few games left this season to see.
The Engrish translation of my 10:32
The question for Kakko is whether his recent play is long term or just a fire under his as* because Kravtsov is coming soon.
Don’t see them keeping Buch and Stromeo …thinking one of them will go
Ghost clears. new reality for players with flat cap for a few years
ilb – In answer to your question on what drove Wilson to go berserk on Lindgren, neither the cameraman nor SalmonJoe relayed to us any of it. Pathetic.
Philly Yearbook: ‘Ghost no longer be here.’
though Panthers may have claimed Ghost…maybe that good from Deangelo trade perspective
Question: what do you most of you honestly have expectations of as it pertains to Kravtsov? He’s going to get into games before the season is over. I get the impression that some may feel like he’s going to be this top six sniper that can play a high speed high skill game without much of a learning curve.
I’m no lip reader, but, FWIW, it looked like Lindgren was saying to Wilson: “That’s my job” or “Doing my job.” Love that kid.
Ghost has lost a step from whatever injuries he’s had. He hasn’t produced on the PP since 2018. He went from top pairing to 3rd pair to healthy scratch to waivers. He has a 4.5 million dollar cap hit.
I don’t see why any GM in his right mind would have picked him up. He isn’t a young guy in need of a change of scenery or being waived because of a log jam of talent.
No one needs a liability on the blueline this time of year just because there’s an off chance it may upgrade their PP IMHO.
Tony Luke: “Yeah we got this new steak sandwich. We call it the Ghost. It’s overpriced and we don’t put nearly as much meat in it as we used to a few years ago”
Call me traumatized by the Sauer tragedy, but my only concern about Lindgren is that he is eventually going to get hurt on a dirty play by Wilson or the other asshat in Boston or the like.
And the lack of testicular fortitude throughout the rest of the lineup means they’ll just stand around and take it. Maybe Smith will have some strong words for someone.
Paging Geertsen…
exactly.
Sauer update?
Expecting high speed game from Kravtsov and someone who shoots …but we will see if he’s sniper material. Really interested as to how he compares speed wise with Kakko, Laffy and Chytil
Quinn just said he needs to see Geertsen in a lot of practices…may join the lineup after Wilson destroys someone
My lip reading translated to “Shut Up!” “Shut up!”
One positive thing for memories of Sather – He’d never let us suffer from a lack of some muscle.
Butch has been impressive this season- when he lets it rip, he has a good shot. In a hard cap league these decisions are very tough to make.
Quinn: “Geertsen is still working on his skating. If anything happens I’m prepared to take my mask down and complain to the officials while being very animated with my hands”
Terrible Tom Wilson last night
0-0-0, -2, 2 shots, 0 hits
Sauer still only 33 years old. Get your gear on man.
And a slew foot, SN. Don’t forget that.
Bobby to be honest I think Kravtsov is /will be the fastest of that bunch. I was very impressed with his skating in preseason last year. Maybe if he gets into a game before he’s 34 years olds we can see it put to good use.
Only 1 left! HURRY! $1300 bucks!

Throw it over the boards.
Kravtsov or Digger is a tough call for Quinn. Quinn,”Is Howden ready” Oliver, “not yet DQ.” Quinn,”Digger where’s Digger?”
CCCP what are you still doing here? Pitter patter better get to Ukraine!
You oughta see Oliver twist.
I could literally give a flying crap less about his skating speed. Im far more interested in his hockey IQ, compete level, and brain processing speed.
I’ve seen more than my fair share of “he skates fast” guys that can’t play hockey.
If his “speed” is what folks focus on and all they care about, we’re in trouble.
Wick, from what I’ve seen of him he’s got the brains to be an NHL player…That is…He can play fast as opposed to “just” skating fast. The hockey IQ is there. Really my concerns are deployment and his responsibilities on the other side of the puck. He’s not here to be a Selke candidate but he needs to play an honest game. He and Quinn both need to understand that.
Buchnevich has done it. Chytil is trying to do it. This isn’t NHL ’21 for PS4. As long as he understands that and is ready to compete every night I think he’ll be fine.
Kravtsov not in lineup tomorrow night. Disgraceful.
I’m certainly not a linguist, but if I can understand Lindy’s yapping from afar, it was loosely, something like: ” Please, Tommie, why wouldn’t you go to the corner and have there a little intercourse with yourself. Thank you.”
… and Tom, finally, followed the direction with deep gratitude.

‘Hw can you say that? We just scored against Jersey and we lead.”
“Oh, okay. We’re on our way.”
When Mess plays golf, does he ever get a bald faced lie?
It’s a fast game …speed is very important and honestly not impressed with Kakko or Laffy in that specific area
Rangers fan: “This team sucks1′
‘Hw can you say that? We just scored against Jersey and we lead.”
“Oh, okay. We’re on our way.”
🙂
Bobbyo
Speed is not nearly as important as hockey IQ or the speed at which a player thinks the game. Mobility is important but lateral mobility and change of direction are far more important than straight line speed.
C3 said sucks one
Gretzky, Mario, jagr, ovi, Mathews, draisitl, Crosby, messier, perry, getzlaf, Thornton, sundin, Peterson, raantanen, landeskog, Richards, Lecavalier, St. Louis, backstrom, barkov, iginla, malkin, Bergeron, sedins, tkachuks…
I can go on, none of those guys considered “fast” skaters.
McKinnon, mcdavid, bure, gaborik…they are fast skaters.
Speed is so ridiculously overrated….I mean I get it, it’s not like it’s a completely enclosed arena with boards all the way around it and only 200’ long it’s an open stadium where you can really put distance between you and another player with blistering top end speed in the first 40 yards then….oh, wait
Bobby
You’re a knowledgeable fan. This isn’t meant to criticize you or anyone else.
But I think fans worry too much these days about things they never used to worry about before mainstream internet and advanced stats and the ability to not just be a fan but to critique every player from draft entries to prospects to veterans.
Corey Perry broke into this league in the early 2000s as a 60-100 point power forward with the Ducks. No one gave a crap about the fact that he had no foot speed or even mentioned it until late in his career really.
Vinny Lecavalier is a legend in Tampa. One of their best centers/players of all time. Well respected throughout hockey. Guy was a -130 for his career. As a center! Never seen a Tampa fan lose sleep over it.
While the game has evolved and gotten faster and faster, I think it becomes more about whether a player can think the game as fast as he needs to. Can he make the right decisions with the puck, get to the right spot on the ice. Can he see a play developing or create one. Those things make a great hockey player. Not being able to keep up w Mcdavid in the all star skills competition.
Wicky…that was just weird.
Dude, get out of my head!!
For the record, neither Panarin or Fox are fast skaters. Best skilled players on the team.
Wick / James you are throwing out Hall of Famers and cup winners as some sort of comparison….are you guy saying s slow Kravtsov is just as likely to succeed in this league as a fast one ?
Scheifele, and especially Pavelski are very slow skaters. I think they are doing ok. Lafrenière, btw, is a very powerful skater.
but late in careers they slow down to non nhl level. look at backes and perry.
kreider is fast but does most of best work in front of net
But Panarin and Fox are not slow
and some get really bad backs late in career. look at Adam Graves late in his career. some of these guys can barely tie their skates. same with guys with knees held together by tape.
Buf up 2-0 on the Filth late 1st
so we get benefit of tired slugs team thurs and sat
Bobby I’m just saying that as a fan base we tend to over analyze certain things and get hung up on/worry about stuff that won’t matter enough in the long run to cause the issues we concern ourselves with.
Kakko’s skating isn’t going to prevent him from being what he will be in this league.
Lafreniere may not be Crosby but he will have a great career as a Ranger. His foot speed won’t prevent that.
Adam Fox May not score 25 goals in a season but hes already headed towards an elite career.
I’d bring up players from the past to emphasize what I mean but then someone is going to pop in and be all “whoa whoa fanboy! Are you ACTUALLY COMPARING these nobodies they drafted who are too young for the NHL to Ranger greats?!”
As for Kravtsov, all I’m suggesting is that he could be the fastest skating player in the league but it won’t mean a thing if he can’t think the game quickly enough and develop the tools to execute accordingly.
But like I said earlier, I think he’s a great skater and a smart player. It’s deployment and his responsibilities without the puck that are the big questions for now.
Talking about fast NY Rangers. Two players come to mind. Gene Carr and Ricco Fatta. Two things in common. Blazing speed, and not very good hockey players.
Best fast NY Ranger of all time is hands down. Mike Gartner. Always wished he could have won the cup with us. I’m sure he feels the same.
Gene Carr shadowed the road runner from montreal 1 playoffs. 1972
Glenn Anderson came thru pretty well in finals
Gartner, Bure, Mogilny, Kariya. All phenomenal skaters.
Mike Rupp, Corey Perry, Pat Maroon, Mike Richards. All Stanley Cup winners
🤷🏻♂️
Moral of the story- our concerns should be more about them bringing in the right players to build a roster that can be playoff competitive and eventually contend for the Cup.
Do you need elite talent to do that? Sure. Do you need every player to be elite or even flawless? No.
How can Kratsov not be in the lineup tomorrow? Do we really need more proof that Quinny is clueless?
I’m starting to think he does not like the kids game for some reason. I guess it’s a really good thing we have Howden.
philly will lose. score currently 6-1. they went with 13 f and 5 d (no ghost)
If ever there were a game to get Crapsoft in, it was tomorrow night.
I just don’t get it….. wtf is wrong with this coach? He’s going to shoot the kid’s confidence and desire to even play for us.
Lias Andersson scores.
Lisa scored? Stop the presses!!!
The irony if Lisa becomes the bottom 6 center this roster needs…
Mogilny has a Cup too!
Of course you want players to be well rounded and to learn the defensive side of the game, but young offensive players also need to be given some latitude and the opportunity to make mistakes. We don’t need Kravtsov, Kakko or Laf to be Selke winners year 1 or necessarily ever. Q is too defense first for some of these guys me thinks.
Also, if Kravtsov really can’t get into the game on Saturday i don’t get what the end game with him is. Kravtsov should be on the 3rd line over Gauthier, who realistically has no long term role here. Gorton and JD need to wake up, otherwise risk the kid never wanting to come back here
If lisa gets one of the 3 stars of the game, instead of throwing a puck to the crowd… does he throw a world juniors medal?
Lisa scores in Washington, throws John Kerry in Potomac.
Good morning, boneheads!
Happy April’s Fool day! I guess…
I went back to see if I posted anything on that day a year ago. I didn’t. And it brought back bad memories….No desire to relive it.
We still pretty deep into this predicament. In a much, much better shape, but it’s far from over. It looks like it’s a race between this virus still spreading widely and our attempt to vaccinate as many as possible.
Buffalo has been playing better. I hope out boys come out ready to play and aren’t full of themselves after beating the Caps. DQ has to have them prepared and it hasn’t been his strong suit. I have no idea why Kravtsov is not in the lineup yet. I hope they are not waiting until after the deadline to sit vets they want to move.
Kravtsov needs more skating, ORF. He hasn’t skated since he was five.
Don’t do it, C3.
Buffalo won a game last night.
You’d have to think Kravtsov gets in against Buffalo one of these games.
The next four after Buffalo are Pens/NYI.
After that they may not have anything left to play for so
Bitetto update? 😉
They need to come out read to play Buffalo is going to be jacked after trouncing the filth. These next 2 games are must wins. Blackwell needs to be with Panarin and Strome. Move the slow skating krakko to the 4th line? 🤣
I love reading Quinn’s comments about Kravtsov. He tries so hard not to contradict himself. Oh we’re going to play him and he needs to be top six but he has to earn it even though they isn’t any opportunity to earn it and bla bla blaahhh.
ORF
I am seriously debating about dropping a $500 bet on Buffalo to win this game tonight. This way, no matter what happens I won’t be in a blind rage.
Shesterkin will be the difference tonight one way or the other!
Pete
Son of a b! I always forget Mogilny played on the 99 Devs. Probably because I never got over Nemchinov being a Devil that year.
Minx, do yourself a favor. 7:15 pm dinner reservation at the Lucky Lobster co in Dunedin. Then take a walk to digest and a nice leisurely car ride home 🙂
BTW Pete,
Would love to know how a team starved for size and strength up front doesn’t realistically have a role for a 23 year old who is 6′ 4 /230 and has been improving his N-S game in the limited amount of playing time he’s had this year.
I hope you’ve got more for me than “Quinn doesn’t like him and they need more skill up front” lol
James
I will mention it to my wife it might work Friday.
Make no mistake, this thing with Kravtsov is calculated. Look at the schedule. 2 against Buffalo and then 2 and 2 against the Pens and NYI. The 2nd of those two against the Islanders just happens to be the day before the trade deadline. So basically these next 6 games will determine all kinds of things.
They want to see if they can make up ground and get closer to a playoff spot and don’t want to take what they see as a big risk by putting him into the lineup. They have a game in hand with the Isles and the Pens. Four straight 4 point games with games in hand against two teams they trail in the standings? No way they take risks.
Now you may want to say ‘but James why wouldn’t Quinn want to see if he’s an asset that can give them a boost towards the playoffs?’
I’m glad you asked! Because they always, ALWAYS take the ultra conservative approach. Since Quinn can’t “sprinkle him in” the way he likes to with 8 minutes a night on the 4th line and then shortening his bench (Not just because the media will kill him but also because they’ve had issues with the kid previously) the plan has to involve top six minutes.
Call me way off base if you want, but there’s no other way to explain it beyond “Quinn and Gorton think he needs to skate more”
Great deal for Hajek great move by Gorton! The rebuild has just taken another step closer to lasting a lifetime!
Don’t do what, James? 🙂
James
If by some great turn of events that should find themselves on the verge of a playoff spot where does that leave Kravtsov?
You KNOW, C3 : D
Good question, Minx.
SN that deal is going to do wonders for Makar and Hughes..
Gorts wanted to validate that TB trade one way or another
BTW – Selma has looked better but he will get caught up in the need to have some snarl and push from the back on the 3rd line. His skating is A level (he’s fast! – ha) but somewhat vanilla in puck management and gets pushed around the crease.
.
Presuming Nils Lofgren is joining the band next year; would prefer a more traditional back liner to pair with him and I am NOT referring to the Wedding Crasher.
*3rd pair
Columbus signs 25 year-old DMan Tony DeVersity amid considerable controversy. To some hockey execs, Tony looks a lot like Tony DeAngelo except with facial hair.
Play the kids. You ain’t going nowhere anyway, and you might find a bottle of lightning ala Chris Kreider, circa 2012.
speaking of skating…Selma is could be best on on the team right now …he’s here to stay …if he’s a bottom pair that means they have a pretty deep defense
Maybe they are saving Kravtsov as a part of a package in the trade before/on April, 12?
WOW!
BREAKING Rangers acquire Jack Eichel in exchange for Mika Zibanejad Adam Fox Kaapo Kakko and next year’s first

this place is gonna go nuts when Howden goes back in the lineup before Kravtsov
Oh come on C3, you’re better than than one!
Uh….Krapsoft hasn’t exactly set the KHL on fire. What makes anyone think he can successfully step in here and blossom overnight on Broadway?
Chytil 21
Howden 23
kakko 20
Laf 19
fox 23
hajek 23
lindgren 23
miller 21
all born after 1/1/98
interesting the first 3 d listed are born within 2 weeks of each other
aren’t we playing the kids
our fanbases favorite movie must be logans run
Let me see if I have this right –
Everyone moans about not giving the kids a chance in top six. Kakko has probably his best game and Minx wants him dropped to fourth line.
Everyone moans about Goatyboy not getting a shake but want him scratched and replaced by KHLsoft.
Clearly, it is Howdens fault.
Ilb you need to prescribe better meds for this group.
The day is still young, James.
Coos ..becuase Krapsoft is fast!

Quinn-“Who’s this Kreider you’re talking about?”
Beezle
I know you know that we all know I was April fooling Krakko to the 4th line!
Kravtsov buying plane tickets online to Motha Russia.
If it’s a Russian plane, load up on life insurance.
Another reason I think that Eichel might end up here is because, in-addition to Quinn vouching for his character, (they made an offer last summer so we know they think he’s worth giving up trade pieces and absorbing a huge cap hit), if he didn’t have to be the man and team captain with a fresh start, he might really flourish here. I’m not sold yet, but I could definitely see it happening.
Mets opener and weekend series cancelled re covid breakout with Nats
Eichel would be a trade that would last a lifetime!
Slugs MUST move him and develop a TEAM. Fans about to burn down KeyBank Center.
How does Mets cancellation affect deGrom?
mets game off due to washington covid issues
SN said that, Alex.
cooscoos
i refreshed before i posted and did not see his post from 3 min before mine
Probably the best start Mets fans could have hoped for : D
AV still Avoiding Victory?
Sprinkles
Luff on waivers…let’s watch another potential add for free just go by
*waves as Luff goes by*

Wick they’re making room for Kupari to come up. Minnesota will be doing the same soon with BDL’s boy Matt Boldy.
Maybe the Wild will put Kaprizov on waivers to bring him in ; )
LMAO
rangers traded howden for perry and a 5th
Alex
I’d rather just have the 5th!
a fifth of vodka?
I’m a Florida boy Rum’s my choice.
I’d take perry every day on this team
Especially the way it is currently constructed.
Wicky
I know
hence the april 1st trade
Alex
I know, I didn’t want you to think your joke was unappreciated.
Thanks for thinking of me.
i still wonder if anyone googled it. i threw in the 5th for some degree of authenticity
For those interested in how much playing time the kids get relative to others around the nhl: http://p.ip.fi/5VY4
Some players obviously out with injuries. Note the NYR skipped the 2015 vintage
If they lose tonite; 500 comments is possible on the game thread
amazing how many underwhelming picks Derbils have made over the past 5 years
I Googled Perry, he said, abashedly.
I fought the Lawn and the Lawn won. Herbicide.
I came to seize her berry, not to praise it.
‘April is the cruellest month.’
May I have this dance?
March of the Wooden Soldiers
I wonder if Devils fans joke about 1C Zajac..
Apparently Lemieux asked for a trade:
https://nypost.com/2021/04/01/brendan-lemieux-requested-trade-before-rangers-dealt-him-to-kings/
Brain Fart Pepe asked out?
Not surprising.
Instead of picking up his play, he sent Pop to Gorton to ask for a “fresh start”.
What a loser!
If they lose tonight EV will be over 200 posts easily!
Advice to trans bull – ‘Be Elsie, Bub.’ Devilish.
200th
How does Pepe like his Fra Diavolo?
With Pesto sauce.
Yeah. Real loser. Only guy on the ice with a big enough nut sack to do something about his teammates getting pushed around every night.
Pick up your play in those 8 minutes of ice time you get every night that you aren’t in street clothes! Just like Gauthier who apparently has no realistic chance here. Makes sense.
Proof once again that they do not know how to handle young players.
Pepe – ‘I didn’t say I want out, I said I want Ott!’
I don’t understand Quinn. Talk about mixed messages, wow.
james – he’s 25 now
Good point Alex.
So then proof once again that they don’t know how to handle ANYTHING.
sleight of hand and twist of fate, Coos.
I think Gorton calls every shot and he’s cross-eyed.
Considering a mutual hatred Pepe’s Jr. father had with the Rangers, maybe he was just a Trojan’s pony in our team? Now, he will show his potential, teaching Dustin Brown and Kopitar a real hockey, playing on a 1 st line…
I haven’t liked Gorton since he shot Bobby Lupo in the movie Out for Justice.
Pretty soon the Kings will have a line of the Rangers who got away.
Lemieux-Andersson-Gauthier.
Yeah James, couldn’t agree more.
BF Pepe was a great contributor to the rebuild (when he wasn’t falling down, or lagging behind the play, or overextending his shift, or taking a dumb penalty, or sitting in the box, or losing a board battle, or looking lost in the dzone, or flubbing a pass, or missing the net on a shot attempt, or talking trash to the opponents across benches)
In 2 plus years , he certainly wasn’t provided ample time to prove his value to the team. He certainly didn’t get any chances to play in the top 6, or the top 9. How they sentenced him to the 4th line immediately upon arrival was a sin, I tell you a mortal sin.
He’ll thrive in LA , because a player of that talent and skill set you can’t keep down.
Won’t defend that stuff or give in to your sarcasm, Papa Skill skill skill is the answer right? That’s why teams like Tampa rack up 128 points in the regular season and get spanked first round by an 8 seed lol .
If fans don’t have a tolerance for players like Pepe then they should keep their mouths shut when Marchand or Wilson or whoever else rough up and injure Panarin or eventually run Lindgren leaving him concussed or with a blown out knee.
But instead they’ll be here and all over complaining about how Chytil Kravtsov and or Kakko didn’t step in and retaliate and stick up for a teammate. mmmmkay.
Anyone here from Ev? I hear he’s hydrating in one of those hyperbaric chambers where you breathe pure oxygen in case the Rangers go down by a couple tonight.
And without having actually evidence to support my position, I’d opine that more than half of BF’s fisticuffs over the last 2 years occurred not in defense of a teammate ( like Litlle Lord Blackwell did last game when Rooney was crushed after the whistle by Oshie ) , but in defense of himself or or instigated by him because he had a beef with an opponent.
I don’t think Pepe Jr will ever amount to more than 7+/-2 g and 20 +/- 3pts a season. Its OK for fourth line role player.
