Game 24
Rangers vs. Hurricanes – 7:00 PM MSG
Tonight is the first game of an odd stretch where the Rangers play the Hurricanes at home twice in the same week, with a game against the Buffalo Sabres in the middle. The Rangers are in a bit of a slump, going 2-3-1 in their past 6 games. The Hurricanes won their last game, leading to the Panthers firing their coach.
I’m on my way home from work right now so I’ll be listening to the first period on the radio. Clearly, this is an HAV.
Tonight’s probable lineup for the Rangers (15-7-1), via Steve Zipay (@stevezipay):
Chris Kreider-Derek Stepan-Mats Zuccarello
Jimmy Vesey-Kevin Hayes-Rick Nash
Michael Grabner-J.T. Miller- Jesper Fast
Matt Puempel-Oscar Lindberg-Brandon Pirri
Ryan McDonagh-Dan Girardi
Marc Staal-Nick Holden
Brady Skjei-Kevin Klein
The big news, of course, is that the Rangers will have 11 year old Bryce Rogerson serve as coach for the day. JT Miller will start this game at center again after getting a slight knee injury in the last game. Also of note is that Grabner was questionable with an illness, but he is playing with the aforementioned Miller and Jesper Fast, he of the two shots in his past 10 games. BDL must be thrilled.
However, drawing back into the lineup is Oscar Lindberg, playing center on the fourth line in Josh Jooris’ spot. Also on the fourth line is Brandon Pirri. This is particularly interesting because when these two played on the fourth line together earlier this season, Pirri was the center and Lindberg was the wing. playing on the wing all year.
Lundqvist gets the start tonight. Defense remains unchanged. Clendening remains Prucha’d. Buchnevich is still not skating.
For the Hurricanes, (9-8-4), Cam Ward gets the start. The Hurricanes haven’t won at MSG since October 29, 2010. The big news is that Jordan Staal is out with a concussion. Did you know he and Marc Staal were brothers, and they have another brother named Eric? Also, Jeff Skinner was a figure skater as a kid! WOW! He’s typically a Rangers killer.
Don’t forget to tell everyone you know and to follow me on Twitter @rangersreport2. And don’t forget to vote for your three stars after the game!

I’ll just leave that here.
If Grabner is not playing tonigh, we better pray for Canes to score in their own net.
He’s playing with Miller and Fast.
Read the sign. Lemonade. Delicious.
…For the same token Fowler can pair McIlrath in any team.
LGR!!
Checking in…
I did, blog’s stepfather, but guys from MSG keep confusing me.
JBytes, you are in. Now get a keys and clue…
Tonight also starts the Garden of Dreams week at MSG. They do a marvelous job supporting those sick kids. Please donate if you can.
Gonna have to DVR this one.
LGR!!!!!
Updated the post to reflect the real big story: Coach Bryce Rogerson.
I understand modern and even post-modern and improvisation, but this is THE most horrible execution (in all senses) of anthem, IMO
I love the Garden of Dreams. But I really hated that anthem.
It was cool when Jimi Hendrix did it at Woodstock, and has literally not been good whenever anyone has tried to do that since.
It’s again too much passing over simple shots, when opportunities right here…
It was TOO simple
if watching the game against the Senators was like watching paint dry, this game is the second coat.
Same losing scenario…1st goal in and team will go to clog middle, dense defense and counter to end…Gloom
And the anti-Lundqvist crowd rejoices.
Has the figure skater scored yet? I hear they may have one on the candy’s
The Rangers players are protesting that rendition of the national anthem.
Kenny and Dave just discussed Jordan and Eric. Only took 7 minutes.
Haven’t been around and am curious. What’s the latest with buchnevic?
Watching Chris Gleider skate away from that second goal killed a little piece of me inside.
Let’s welcome a new Ranger killer – Viktor Stalberg!
Oofah! Need some 2nd period magic.
The underpaid Klein is now adequately paid.
What the falk is with this team? Trade everybody!
deja vu – all over, again…Let in first goal, than some lucky bounce/rebound and second, and than…
Pitt is much more gritty than our boys. Doesn’t mean we can’t beat them.
I wonder if Klein is playing through some ailment.
I’m not surprised, rangers haven’t been playing well for a while now, some of the games they won recently I wasn’t impressed, thought they reached rock bottom against Ottawa, guess I was wrong.
Imprisonment for bad National Anthem performers! Couple days, that’s all for first offense.
Coos, they need to get past the Canes in the first round.
Nash and then Stepan with Grade-A chances. Scorers need to score.
Bad performance seemed contagious. Started with the terrible anthem performance and turns to the bad team performance on ice.
Aho said to Mac Truck “Take on Me” as he shot.
good period?
That Anthem performance was brutal, Jimmi Hendrix had to be turning in his grave.
How bout freaking competing. The old December swoon it’s becoming too easy predict
Another uninspiring effort.
This season does feel like Deja vu.
How much does AL Trautwig make? Does he have a dental plan? I mean, man…get them teeth a makeover!
Pitiful sight…
I really felt Kreider was going to have a break out season, oh well, same old, same old.
Time to start using depth. With so many games in short span no reason certain guys have to be the same healthy scratch.
I know I’m stating the obvious but I think it is time we realize there is trouble in the Big Apple! 5th in Metro!
Carp basically called me an idiot for thinking the Rangers will have a bad December. He’s pretty quiet now.
Maybe the injuries to Buchnevich and Zibanejad has hurt the rangers more than you think. Because of those 2 injuries AV had to change up the lines.
Looking at the two Carolina mistake-goals: The first one, a nice assist to Holden to set up the shot and then Lundqvist whiffs badly with his stick all over the place. The second starts with The Gleider, who should get two assists, with his utter disinterest in defending, twice, leading up to Klein’s fancy footwork. Time for the team to recommit to its game and put on some pressure.
Actually on that 1st goal buy carolina, Holden looked to setup a carolina player twice, second one went in, barf.
What’s the latest on buchnevich’s injury?
New period, new hope.
What song was that when the anthem was to be played? I could have done it better gargling.
Ridiculously careless penalty
The new car smell of this blog is starting to wear off. Some of the posts are starting to smell like fish, like towards the end on the old blog
What kind of fish? Carp?
Six month old great kills park horse shoe crab carcass
Ummm, splunge?
What a yyyaawwwwwwnnn pace… I can barely yyyyaawwnnnnnn keep my eyes open.
To be fair, it’s only half a carcass.
Put on nose a clothes-peg…
FG- Are you saying this blog is beginning to flounder?
It’s November, Scottsdale, and you’d be predicting a bad December if they closed November on a 10-game winning streak.
Too many mistakes per sq.ft. of ice.
Black Hawks v. Florida at 8:30
have not seen a second of the game yet. score?
0-2 Rangers got 0
1-2 Rangers got 1
Holden with the patience, the goal-scorer’s touch! Maybe the forwards can take notice.
also, Scottsdale, I tend to mock those who predict doom after every opposition goal. Simple as that. Don’t take it personally. You are not alone.
Signs of life at the World’s Most Famous Mausoleum.
Hold-en on thar babalooey!
Vesey really gripping it out there. One of the worst passes you’ll ever see.
Nestrasil sounds like a new medicine. “Ask your doctor about Nestrasil…”
5th in metro fall behind jackets shortly
Bryce! FIRE SATHER!
So, short lived splash of activity and that’s it? How about sustained pressure?
They look terrible tonight, so much for turning it around & figuring out how to make it through neutral zone
Should be 3-1. Isn’t. Take advantage!
Puempel had a chance to screen that shot, backed away.
AV will never win a cup if he doesn’t figure out how to adjust
What really happened to our early hope – Kreider? Takes a few games off. Turn over machine. Purposeless skating… Lack of interest? Why? After injury, something affects his brain.
Gotta give Carolina credit. They’re getting a little piece of just about everything.
Kreider for Stahlburg
Plenty of time
89th
Horrible cycle team
AV being patient with The Gleider. Plenty of ice tonight for a complete passenger.
Nash with a beauty! 2-2
NASH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Wow
Kreider is about to retire… At least that’s a feeling…
Shoot, stupid!
Tide is turning, ladies and gentlemen
99 times out of 100 the figure skater buries that. Whew.
I would rather have few more trigger happy guys there, than this fine passers, particularly when those passes doesn’t connect most of the times..
Finaly
Legit hit!
Nash is the Beast tonight, regardless of the outcome.
Wait..NYR threw a check?
Surely Carolina will end up with a penalty, right? Ah, never mind…this is the NHL.
Should have never been 4v4; Oscar unduly charged.
Why isn’t Hansie thrown out?
Let’s go Boys
Why would he be?
Step playing?
If Rangers not gonna score now, they definitely deserve to lose.
Drought over…
No chit, coach wants players to Poke Check… non of this body checking Slatsko crap
Easy Peasy Vesey
Vesey makes it threesey.
Good for Kreider battling in front; deserves an assist on that
Pick up a Nash’s garbage…
This games all Gnash tonight.
Nashed definitely in beast mode tonight.
Can’t refs have any smaller screen for such a important decision.
Jimmy Jimmy by Rick Ocasek:
Not allowed to be physical with a Ref or linesman
what a stupid-ass rule this offside challenge is.
if Machine and Pumper are playing, who was prucha’d?
I think Bill Peters is wearing one of those Bob Saccomano rat hats they sell in Battery Park, 40 bucks.
Sweat and blood…
The good old nightly Chinese Fireplace.
It’s a win! Don’t forget to vote for Nash.
Not a pretty win, but still worth two points.
So I guess that disastrous December is on hold now?
Fifth Metro.
Well nice ending. 3 unanswered is always good.
good W
As Dave M said, Step played all night with a rubber stick.
Vote vote vote
Is anyone here watching The MSG Hockey Show?
Well Carp they haven’t won a game in December yet. How good can it be?
Ever see a Star interfered with so often with no calls as Nasher?
Chicago up 1-0 over Fla.
Chicago leads everyone in shots – on the street.
Unbeaten, untied, also Olga.
I voted Nash, Vesey, Lundqvist in no particular order, Wick.
Sarah Lawrence Football – And yet another season unscored upon!

Challenging an offside should be put into the dustbin of history.
Hard to leave Donuts out of that trio, Carp.
I voted gnash, know when to Holden, and easy peazy jimmy vesey…in no particular order
Always an ultimately satisfying night when you have an extra star or two who won’t fit. 🙂
Thanks carp 😉
Assists taken away on Holden goal. Bummer.
#68
Locker room question to Lundqvist: “What was the greater meaning, tonight?” Jeesh!
I thought machine played a physical machine game…like he was last season.
Who was interviewing him, J-P Satre?
A lot of life is Accidental. The rest is purely Existential.
Mromeo58
What’s ailing Klein, is the same thing that was ailing Girardi and Holden earlier in the season…skjelitis
Nash’s problem as I see it: Interviewed about his goal where he went alone from his own end, passed three or four Hurricanes, then threw an electric backhand over their goalie, he said, “I guess I got a little lucky on that one.”
Nash was in 5th gear tonite. At these wages, should be every night.
HAWKS WIN in a shootout.
I thought Nash’s top-shelf backhander was put up there by the deflection off the d-man’s stick.
Guess firing Gallant didn’t help the Cats. Chart-boy idiots.
There was a slight tick off the stick, yes.
Review will be a little later than usual, but still before 9:30.
Carp, the panthers have bad ownership, no question, but Gallant’s replacement is a legit hockey guy, too.
Panthers suck. Analytics suck. Rangers rock!
They had to take those assists away from Nash and Vesey on Holden’s goal, didn’t they? Thanks for cheaping me in fantasy hockey, biatches.
And Doodie, word down here is that Tom Rowe wanted to coach in the NHL from the moment he was named GM of the Panthers. What better way to do it than this? Florida Panthers=Peewee league
I was going all fan boy when Nash put on those after burners and smoked the defense, got a little flick off the end of the D’s stick but still awesome goal. He was also at his best for Vesey’s goal.
Missed the third period, dammit, tutoring right next door to the Angry Beaver hockey bar (not even making that up) in Seattle. Did get to see the replays of the Nash goal and almost-goal that Vesey converted. Guy’s an animal. It was an odd coincidence that Holden and Nash had virtually the same opportunity–Holden held the puck for an extra beat and popped it up into an open net where Nash shot early, trying to sneak it under. Both good plays as it turns out! And good to see Kreider involved in the game-winner. He had an awful first two periods, I thought, don’t now how else his third went.
