Good morning, boneheads!
Brilliant coaching by Knoblauch! Brilliant! Another confirmation that DQ has to go! Kidding, of course. Someone needs to find out why the Flyers decided to stay home instead of showing up at the Garden. On National TV, no less. But that’s AV’s problem.
The Rangers took this opportunity and ran away with it. Having two very good NHL players back didn’t hurt. Both made a big difference right away. In fact, Fox going around a couple of D and setting up Lemieux with a brilliant pass turned out to be all they needed last night.
Not a word about Mika. Not a word. Yeah, I’m superstitious. Sue me.
They also did the right thing in the third. They didn’t try to run up the score against listless Flyers, who didn’t even try to start anything nasty. Our boys did try to set up Buchnevich for a hattrick, but even that was a half effort.

Even with 9 goals still thought the highlight of the night was Boy Georges 2nd period save!

(Just some perspective, guys)
Spent the early evening at our kids house enjoying our grand babies so viewing delayed again. Nothing to see here boys the philth took the night off so they deserved a darn good thrashing! Question is who will so up Friday Dr. Jekel or Mr. Hyde?
Hockey is truly fascinating at times.
Give a team-good, bad or average- some type of adversity to rally around, and watch them go.
That would be show up not so up!
Knoblauch? Nah just a coincidence right?
Clean slate, grab it!
dvr’d game since was out. should be fun.
if it was 9-0 the other way how many posts 600? 1,000? 200 by EV alone.
Lost in all the euphoria is the fact that Hajek keeps getting better and better
Minx
the coach has nothing to do with losses or wins. I get criticized if I say otherwise so🤷🏻♂️
James
Of course you’re right coaches only get fired for consistently wearing bad ties 😉
All I’ll say is if they’re going to sniff the playoffs, they need Mika as 1C. Maybe he just need the crowd’s energy 🙂
If you’re content with playoffs and probably first or second round exit, then you should be rooting for that. If you want a shot at lottery picks again, then hope it was an aberration.
Only around 200 posts last night – down from the usual 300-500 after a loss.
Bad night for the gloom and doomers last evening / or it was just st Patrick’s day.
Minx, there aren’t ties in hockey anymore.
Healthy, strong Russian antibodies!
So regular personnel in game, game plan made up by usual suspects but team crushes opponent. Only logical conclusion is that Dairy Queen is very, very mean to our sexy boys while standing on that bench every night. Mr. Knoblauch (how many errors did he make at second base?) on the other hand whispered sweet words and gave a pat on their a** before every shift!
Quinn’s voicemail: “Just make sure Gauthier is scratched and Blackwell plays at least 15 minutes” 🙂
Strome and Mika were monsters on FO last night.. 9/14 and 12/18, combined 0.656
James, nothing to do with Blackwell. Howden > Gauthier!
If the Rangers played a smarter defensive game and got some goaltending the other night they probably win that game 4-2 instead of losing it 5-4 in OT.
Not going to make light of a 9-0 win, but Philly has goaltending /defensive problems of their own right now (obviously). The opportunity was there to take 4 /4 points. That last one got away from them.
Consistent goaltending would be a huge help right now..
Georgie played well last night. There was a ton of traffic and bumping in front of him early in the game. Made the all the key stops
From the Filthy Inquirer press:
-Claude Giroux and the Flyers are embarrassed after the Rangers game … and they ought to be
-The most lopsided loss to the Rangers in Flyers history had everyone singing the blues.
-Rangers fans in the third period were chanting, “We want 10!” which is actually pretty funny. Unless you were one of the Flyers.
-That awful second period even left upbeat Flyers radio host Jason Myrtetus beleaguered. “I’m not going to [do] the highlights,” he said, showing mercy on his listeners. “I’m not going to [do] the BetRivers highlight reel.”
-The defensive pairing of Phil Myers and Travis Sanheim was especially comical, in a Lenny & Squiggy kind of way. Sanheim was on the ice for seven goals (The plus/minus database on Hockey-Reference.com goes back to 1979-80, and the worst it has is nine guys with a -7, the last being Calgary’s Chris Butler in 2012.)
-Phil Myers’ night, in addition to -6, included taking two penalties and having a puck go off his skate for the fourth Rangers goal.
-It’s the worst loss in Alain Vigneault’s coaching career, trumping a 9-2 hammering when he was the Rangers coach in 2013. His team responded by losing its next game, 6-0.
The first period was actually quite even and they had defensive breakdowns that Georgie helped clean up. The Flyers’ second period was the worst period I have seen a team have in a while. AV’s Ranger teams would drop a stinker like that occasionally. Like the game in San Jose when Hertl put Biron into retirement. The Rangers should have won Monday even without Fox and Buch. Goat Boy, Miller and Kinkaid did them in. The Flyers are not very good right now.
They pretty much have to win both against the Caps to be relevant in the division. If not they are headed to an “NHL 500” season which gets them a 5 to 10 pick in the draft. If Mika is really back he will make the rest of the season -and the offseason – interesting. The $10 million Man was on display last night. Let’s see if it was just a tease.
It’s not like the Flyers were great Monday night. They were a mess and the Rangers were worse. Last night, the Rangers didn’t let the Philth get behind them for breakaways and odd man rushes and when it got lopsided in the 2nd period, the Flyers quit.
The first time in a while, especially in this pandemic, that I’ve woken up the morning after a Ranger game with a smile on my face.
oh no… Wicky is two timing us! Who else could have written this?
Last year at this time, Flyers fans were stoked about AV and how had the team playing…
Wonder what’s the word on the street in Philadelphia now?
Let’s hope the Philth get pissed off and play that way against the Fishsticks tonight.
But probably they will just play “whistle to whistle” and…
AV behind the Filthy bench is and will be the gift that keeps on giving
stop criticizing Philly and AV softness..we don’t want them trying to acquire/sign the same players the Rangers need
“We came together as a group and played for each other.” Mika.
Played for each other. Stab at the coach?
Where’s BDL? He predicted this Mika break out.
he had to be right sooner or later!
How he scored was classic Mika; shorthanded breakaway, 2 on 1 breakaway for Kreider and PP breakaway
LOL was thinking the same thing. I think his last 5 on 5 goal was about 2 years ago.
EV, glad you’re smiling today. I am holding onto your post from last night and submitting it to the bonehead comment hall of fame, bro.
As the buzzer sounds on a 9-0 win….”So much for putting up ten”…lol
Oh the play with Kreids was 5 on 5? now I see why everyone’s excited lol
In an 82 game season, I believe this team would make a run if Mika is starting to fire on all cylinders….
But, do they run out of race track?
I think they’ll make it interesting, but… short of ripping off 10 in a row, I just don’t think they can catch the top 4 the way they’re playing.
Either way, last night was fun…. (that’s what she said)
Craig,
Here’s the real test coming up. They’ve handled Washington quite well this season. Take 3/4 points from them after this circus of a 2 game series with Philly and they’ll have my attention. Until then, Meh.
Buchnevich is…I don’t even know what to call it. But I’ve been waiting for this kind of production to go along with the attitude/edge whatever you call it.
Always weary of the career year in a final year of a contract but if we debate Colin Blackwell being a late bloomer I guess it’s fair to do the same with Buch.
agree on importance of beating Caps this weekend James……the problem with last night’s game is that Flyers were so damn awful you can’t tell how well the Rangers really played
I agree with you. Although as an observer of this season I will also mention that the Rangers have no issues losing the occasional game to a downright awful team.
What in hell was Drury doing here, picking up a couple wheels of Bitto Storico?
They’ve been better against Boston lately and they have beaten the Caps a few times. Let’s see what they do in these next two. Good measuring stick, I think. If they play well we can see from there.
It’s the anchovies from little Italy, Coos. What do you think that kind of quality just hangs out in the sticks of CT?
Sometimes an Avoiding Victory team when getting their buts handed to them simply say these guys are better than us tonight what do you want to do after this debacle is over?
James the one difference with Captain Happy is that there has been a fairly steady improvement in all parts of his game the past three years, not just a contract year spike.
Since 2017/18, his ppg is #32 of all RW (120 games min). Stopping the clock at the end of last season puts him at #35.
Not sure what the money will need to be, but think NYR need to keep him. He’s not quite elite enough (yet) to be #1 RW but definitely a solid #2 that can step up to #1. On an 82 game basis he looks to deliver 50-55 pts on the low side, 75-80 on the upper end. With the addition of the PK responsibilities, a pretty complete player just hitting his prime.
With the putrid power play and all the giveaways in the first, the boys were lucky to be up 2-0. So you have to give them credit for staving off disaster, taking the lead, and then running away with it.
Flyers broadcast didn’t want to do the highlights because 15 minutes wasn’t enough time to show go through all the goals against.
If enough management gets the virus, maybe we’ll see JD behind the bench.
Beez – very true re Butch; he is definitely one of DQ’s success stories; I give the coach much less credit (or blame) for the new kids on the block given lack of time under his watch but Butch and Stromeo have played better and better over the past 3 seasons.
Big Q is: can they manage the cap with Butch at $5M+ for 4-5 years and Stromeo at $6M+ for 4-5 years. are these guys playing themselves off the squad given the constraints of the cap.
The good news they do not have to worry about any of the pup’s productivity related performance bonuses this season…
One of Butch’s attributes that has allowed him to thrive is a bit of nasty compete.
It’s crazy what can happen when you have a captain like Drury on the bench 😉
O’ Thé Wick
Too funny I’m laughing as I write this!
#48 to Drury – ‘You bring some pizzas or what?’
‘Drury’s got an eye for talent, sort of like a Phil Spector of hockey without all the murder stuff.’
Knoblauch “Chris let’s try to keep the lines intact tonight and see what happens.” Drury “Isn’t that what Quinn does?”
NO too many men penalties last night. That’s what Drury brings. He can count to five. Was that Arniel’s job?
Maintenance day for Kreider.
Georgiev starts next game. Could be Shestyerkin in game after that. He was on the ice for practice.
Hartford guys will coach the team for the next 2 games. Knoblauch, Gordon Murphy and Benoit Allaire running practice.
PDG still on Covid list.
Seriously, Wick. It’s a shame that in that era of throwing big contracts at big “name” players they never brought Drury to NYR to play. I think that woulda bee….oh that’s right.
SN- I think they’ll move on from Georgiev and his new contract as well. That and a Tony D buyout coupled with the drop in dead cap space and the bonus savings makes me think they can do it. It’ll be a crunch but they could do it.
The real question from there is- can they still improve the team after hypothetically doing all of that?
Roughly $21 million if Georgie and Tony D are off books. That’s what they’ll have to work with. 9 RFAs at season’s end including Selma and Huska.
Need the kids to move to the next levels of performance to include Crapsoft and Barron. Out of those 5; 2 have to emerge at RW and 2 at pivot.
unless they are re-upping Mika as well.
DO you think Barron gets a chance in the middle at some point or no?
A Ty Ronning sighting. Pack lead 1 zip.
James
On the Barron at pivot it depends who the coach is, Quinn not a chance. Of course that’s just my opinion.
Minx, the reason I ask is because going into next year, you’ve got Panarin, Kreider, Lafreniere, Lemieux on the left side. Presumbaly you would have Buchnevich, Kakko, Gauthier, Blackwell on the right side. Plus you have Kravtsov factoring in(?)
Gauthier will be elsewhere.
The Flyers looked like absolute creampuffs. And the Rangers once again mystify……awesome game after a awful perfomance. Strange that this keeps happening.
One thing that did piss me off a bit was sitting Gauthier and Reunen.
Could they have not sat the wonderkind Howden and Smith instead?
BDL- you may be right. It’ll mark the first time a high end prospect is moved because he took minor penalties too often.
what are you guys looking to pay Buchnevich ? he would have to come in at lower annual hit at longer term for it to make sense.
They aren’t going to keep Blackwell over Gauthier. If Georgie stabilizes, may not change there – you’ll still have to pay a backup order 1.5 so at most are saving 1M for a devil you don’t know.
I think Buch would be around 5-5.5 on a four year contract depending details of NMC. Hard to see below 4.75.
Would it be a pretty good guess that our boys will come out with a stinker tomorrow and play like banshees on Saturday?
Don’t sell Ty Ronning short
We want the cup
We want the cup
We want the cup
Bettmen; CCCCCaptain BBBBlackwell, cccccccome gggggget the sssStanley ccccCup
Beezle 5 at 5.5 would be tough for Buch…does he take longer term at lower cost and know he may be pushed down to 3rd line eventually? Doubt it but if thats the route they go they still need to address size and snarl in top 9. Gauthier stays but Howden/Blackwell are extra forwards or move on. The decision then moves to Strome.
Glad Butch is shooting but a Mamo Squirt goalie might have stopped them. Those two shots were fragrant…
Guess what? It appears Philadelphia may have a goaltending issue. Again.
James 2:04
I completely understood that. I was just pointing out the Quinn factor.
SN agreed. I wouldn’t call Mika’s goals “minty fresh” either. Hart is a shell of himself right now.
4 of the next 7 against Washington and 2 more with Philly in between. This place is going to look like a M*A*S*H unit…
Blackwood and Rooney signed through next year. They can be exposed to the Kraken. Buch, Howden, Goat Boy and Chytil are RFAs I assume will be qualified. Lemieux and Strome are signed through next season. Buch and Chytil will be protected as will Strome. One more spot left for Pepe, Goat Boy or Howdy. TDA and Bitetto will be available since the buyout is after the expansion draft(I think) as will Kinkaid. Not much help for the Kraken in that group.
Deshaun Watson for Governor!
Very excited Chytil was able to score that all important 9th goal to secure the win
#playthekids
Probably just as important as Zibanejad scoring goal #8.
The only goal they needed was Pepe’s
Theoretically I agree SN. But if Pepe’s goal was the only one they scored not sure the win that 1-0
Got to admit I enjoyed the heck out of last nights game. One question. Anyone in their right mind think a game at MSG on St patrick ‘s day where one team was up by 9 goals there would be Zero fights?
Flyer fans must love AV as there coach.
Hope this is the start of a good stretch for our boys in blue. If the goalie can play like last night we are not such a bad team. We shall see.
Fox has been great but his pass only tendency on the PP is a problem. He is like a point guard who can’t shoot. The defender back off of him and block the passing lanes. He needs the occasionally one timer just to make the defender freeze for a second.
Also if KK had Chytil’s release he would have ten goals by now. He gets it off quickly.
No Flyer fans in the building and social distancing do control fights. If they fill the place there are Flyer fans in the building and the are next to Ranger fans.
Sprinkles!!!!
My wife lovesgrown on me too. The full version with the young couple come in and see the OLD folks getting down is priceless. Expecially the look on the girls face. Scoop there it is.
Sorry about the typo. Wife loves commercial.
ORF said He gets it off quickly.
If Buch would take a 4 year deal at or below 5 and strome would take a 3 yr extension at or around 5.5 this offseason, they could probably make it work. But just don’t think you can go much higher or longer with either player, especially strome given he’ll be 29 when his next deal starts. Also means you are likely bargaining hunting for another center and Mika needs to be reasonable on his next deal. But even then do we think Mika and Strome at top 2 centers is strong enough for playoffs in a couple years?
Devils 3
Pens 0
9:41 left in the second
definitely difficult choices on strome and buch. both playing well. Buch taking that next step
NHL cap sucks. Otherwise a no brainer to keep both. Seems the only way to build is to have enough young talent that is cost controlled. Will be difficult, but I think you have to deal buch and ride kaako and krapsoft trajectory on the RW then bring in a true bottom 6er that is cheaper than buch. That being said. If buch was say 4.25/yr, I would keep him.
Asslanders giving us zero help….. So last nights win, while pretty, won’t count for much.
pepe goal was outstanding. Loved how his forecheck started the play.
He also kept his composure
At the end of the second, proverov dirty hit him without the puck trying to start something. Pepe didnt take a bad penalty. His hockey IQ is higher than people give him credit for.
Cregg – he had two strong games in a row; not without some snafus in the Dzone but definitely hustling on the forecheck so nice to see him get the goal.
Impressive turnaround by the Philth.
We’ve got to keep winning games.
But again – first and foremost is to develop the yoots.
Avoiding victory!
FISHSTICKS tie it up
Fantastic ….. it’ll go to OT and the asslanders and flyboys will both get points. Cool. 🤦♂️
Flyboys take the lead again….
Flyers have -7 Sandheim out there at the end
Philth pull it out. Ha ha ha..
Scoreboard watching in the NHL is masochistic
Too many 3 point games
All I can do is hope that a good run of regulation wins by the rangers with all these divisional games is the only thing that really matters.
Wahlstrom with his 7th tonite, where is Crapsoft?
Flyers came back pretty well tonight. That doesn’t help the Rangers.
According to Mollie Walker,DQ and the staff will not be making the trip to Washington. If we win both games does management think about moving on from DQ?
Sprinkles!
Jeff – No
Guess Quinn should have been better about his mask wearing hygiene
All these sports, game starts and coaches are wearing the masks for the camera. Once the heat of battle gets turned up it’s constantly being pulled off and down cause they think it makes them more effective communicators What a joke and a farce.
Strange world, where the “importance” of a sports game is an excuse to do poorly with your mask. Imagine during codes in the hospital the team leader felt it necessary to shirk the mask 😷 for “communication in the heat of the moment”
It’s a dog and pony show. Even at the draft table. Beginning shows everyone masked up for pictures and TV time but the behind the scenes clips that came out later show most having shed the masks. So disingenuous.
Ok. Rant off.
Maybe the goalie whisperer should stand back and speak louder as a safety protocol
cregg7 – Buch will be arbitration eligible RFA for two more years due to the 7 season requirement. Pro-rating last season to 80 games (he missed two) puts him at 54 pts. Obviously this season on a pace for a lot more but lets just say he slows up and ends with 42 on 56 games, 62 full season. Again, looking at other RWs those numbers are first line on quite a few teams and even expanding to all forwards, he’s at #104 for past three 1/2 seasons, right around first line status (32*3=96).
Strome got 4.5 on his deal but good as his prior season was, he had a checkered history and only started consistently getting on the sheet after the trade to NYR mid season 18/19. Buch as been consistent and improving each year.
Strome was second in SH toi last year just missing the lead to Fast. Buch had all of 1 minute. This season, Buch leads the team and Strome has less than half as many minutes.
So end of day, I think he is likely to get more than Strome and come in around 5. If they think he could be the R1 awhile, they might buy a few years of his UFA time but that would bump the cost (IMO) to 5.5. Its not really crazy money considering other contracts and we can’t be the all kids all the time team either. I don’t think at this point you can envision Kakko being at the same place for at least two more seasons and we haven’t seen a moment of Kravtsov in real action other than scoring on KHL.
Here’s another comp – Vorachek was an RFA in summer 2014. He got a two year deal at 4.25M per after 291 pt in 449 (of 458) or 0.648 pt/gm vs Buch 173 in 274 ( of 343) or 0.631 pt/gm. Buch is actually on a slightly higher g/gm pace. Vorachek was on a pace for 79 pts in the 12/13 short season, Buch is on a pace this short season for … 79. Eerily similar.
That was a lot of work. Thanks Beezle!
https://twitter.com/b424en828/status/1372365128306397184?s=19
Cregg,
Thanks for having the balls to say what I’ve been thinking but not saying about the coaches and their masking habits.
Beezle excellent work bro. I only have one small critique as Strome for Spooner happened less than 20 games into the season. Probably just reinforces your point though
Kravtsov last seen playing GTA at 330am in a high end town home in White Plains.
Quinn: “well, Vitali has to understand we aren’t exactly stealing cars and robbing drug dealers here.”
I lost my mind when they took Kravtsov over Walhstrom I could go on and on Prust saying!
i hear ya St Pete, but Wahlstrom hasn’t yet been the dynamic scorer he was hyped to be at draft time. of course i’d be thrilled if kakko or laf had 7 goals at this point!
Beezle, Buch turns 27 next April, so he is UFA eligible starting next offseason. i could see him pulling a Zuc and taking a reasonable 4 year deal tho to be honest, as seems like he enjoys it here (from what little we know/see).
Strome might as well, but can’t be giving him a 5 year deal or we are back in the same mess we were in with staal and girardi. So at most a 3 yr extension this offseason, but he may be less likely to do that given his age. I’d still look to move him because as noted above I don’t think Mika snd Strome are the 1-2 punch at center you want, especially if it means you have to go cheap at 3C and 4C as a result
Not sure what Wahlstrom will become but look at the top 10 of that draft class and one name stands out for lack of any games played. Two guesses, first one doesn’t count… Still very early though.
The forward who is drafted after Crapsoft (at this juncture) that one could argue to take before him is Farabee and also Isac Lundestrom (C) who, along with Zegras, is proving that you may be able to draft after the top 5 (or 2) picks and possible find top 6 centers.
A lot of talent seems to have been hanging around picks 19-26th in recent years. Too bad TB took Howden 27th…
Also, if Kravtsov played for just about any other NHL team he’d have played NHL games by now. I think he would have played last year if he didn’t have a melt down that resembled a 5 year old throwing himself on the floor at the mall while crashing from the sugar in his funnel cake.
NYR was in Cup Contention mode when signing their top 4 Dmen to continue the team’s run.
Girardi was 29 when he signed his deal with A LOT of tread of the tires.
Staal was 28 coming off two major injuries
.
Stromeo will be 29 at the start of his next deal has been somewhat injury free which may speak to his playing style not built for a Cup Contender. Right now he is good value on the dollar but IMHO they need to get a little stronger in the middle.
Wahlstrom on a 18 goal pace over 82 game season; so definitely getting pucks in the net, but he’s 20 yo, not a teenager.
some of the best value picks at center have been in the 10-16 range of late for sure, but rangers haven’t had picks there last couple drafts and when they’ve been able to trade up they have still been outside of that range and even then gone after D, not centers.
SN, plenty of reasons to criticize some of these young guys and management for selecting certain of them or their subsequent treatment thereof, but not that big deal that Kravtsov is looking to make his debut only this year, when he was only drafted in 2018. that is a pretty normal trajectory and even guys taken ahead of him have yet to make an impact yet even if they have played some games in the nhl (like Hayton or Kotkaniemi or Zadina).
But for the temper tantrum and pandemic he likely would have made his debut last season and started his season here this year. Would you rather he have played games at 18 and 19 only so you could complain he was dragging down the amazing veterans like you are claiming now with Kakko and Laf?!
Carp has an article up. I think he ought to go in to comedy. To be fair, he has always been a coach defender. He agreed with Campbell decision to put Bill Berg with Wayne Gretzky. He also believed that Campbell holding a grudge against Kovalev and Zubov was justified because they were not thrilled with being the minors.
Post updated above with Carp’s new article.
ps- WB,BDL. And hey thanks for leaving me in the trenches taking grenades during the coach convo earlier this week!
Pete – totally agree, only the bona fide out of the gate superstars are playing when teenagers; McDavid, Matthews, Kane, Kakko
One difference between Kane, McDavid, Matthews, and our guys is, when Kane and company joined their teams, it was understood that it was their team. I doubt Kakko and Lafrenière even have a clue as to what their roles may be on the Rangers, let alone have it be their team. It makes a difference.
2015:
19Evgeny Svechnikov
20 Joel Eriksson Ek
21 Colin White
22 Ilya Samsonov

2016:

(27) Howden
2017:

I’d say that’s a pretty good cluster of players in the 19-27 range. Pretty much all NHL players even if it’s borderline.
Some teams would have been thankful to get these some of these guys top 10..
A quick look Kane’s rookie season and you see that he played 18+ minutes a game, and had 30 PP points. Kakko and Lafrenière play the last 30 seconds of the PP, if that. Again, makes a difference.
BDL I think it works the other way too. Some guys come into the league and play 3rd line but they know that’s their role and there are bigger dogs ahead of them in the top six for a year or two. Still works out for them because they know what their role is and what they need to be doing.
SN had a couple of examples the other day but I forget the specific players he mentioned.
with what you’ve seen from Kakko in a year and a half, what do you think his next contract goes for. years and AAV
I am not arguing that they should be getting first unit PP time, but when judging them statistically you need to take in to account that they are being asked to do their scoring at even strength.
Svechnikov didn’t break out until his second full year either. Didn’t get much PPtime/ production his rookie year despite playing in 82 games.
62 penalty minutes as a rookie too. Imagine if Quinn coached him? He’d probably be in street clothes every other game and we’d be talking about his potential to be a power forward once he’s older….
I gotcha, BDL.
Panarin and Kreider locked up for 6 more years. A position change is in order for someone.
KK has another season to show his potential. If he doesn’t step up next year we will have to lower expectations but let’s let him have a full somewhat normal season before we do that. Next year will set his next contract.
BDL – if they had more PP time, they would have more points…maybe but neither could hold Kane’s jock whether they were ‘told’ it was their team or not, the reason why is called ‘skill’.
Kanes rookie year Even Strength stats: 14-30-44
James – Stutzle on 3rd line, Cozens on 3rd line, Zegras on 3rd line, etc etc etc
SN,
Wasn’t comparing them to Kane. I was comparing their usage. That’s it.
BDL,
I feel like if Kreider was going to RW it’d have happened by now.
Wick has said it best. Eventually Kreider will be the highest paid LW3 in the league.
James are you from Pennsyltucky?
For the record, I do not think these players are busts, far far from it. But that doesn’t mean they are able to contribute night in, night out in the mens league.
.
Some believe players get better ‘playing their way through it’ to speed up the performance improvement cycle; but hard to assess as they were not provided any other approach to provide a ‘control’ group to assess which way works best
What is clear up to now, is that they are not contributing to winning hockey in the present while mngt wanting to establish a culture of accountability; but that’s only for the vets, the pups get the pat on the head, the yutes not drafted in the first round and the vets get the paper swatted across the arse.
.
Was watching the Oilers game and saw Pool Party, now at 22 yo at 8G-4A looking more comfortable after a del zaster season last year. I think Kakko is more skilled and can see him breaking out next season if he can hone his release and shot.
I was thinking more along the lines of a move to center for Kreider or Lafrenière.
Considering the fact that Panarin is a righty and has the ability to be deadly no matter where he is on the ice, I would actually like to see him on the right of Strome for a bit.
Laf has the right fundamentals to play center, but would that slow down his develpoment? Even tougher role to learn on the fly.
Pete:
What is an unrestricted free agent (UFA)?
A player becomes a free agent when their contract expires on July 1 after the last League Year of their contract. Any player who meets the following requirements becomes an unrestricted free agent (UFA):
– Is 27 years of age on June 30 of the contract expiry year
– Has seven (7) Accrued Seasons where an Accrued Season is earned when the player was on the clubs active roster for 40 Regular Season games (30 if the player is a goaltender). Games missed due to a hockey related injury will count towards an accrued season in the season of the injury, plus one additional season after the injury.
Against my better judgment because some of the Blackwell zealots will view this as an insult to him, which it’s not….the two year contracts for him and Rooney were about the expansion draft, not some organizational euphoria going “wow look at these guys we’ve found for pennies on the dollar”.
While they’ve both contributed one the ice this season, there’s an outside chance Rooney is back at 4C next season. If Blackwell is back in the top 12 next year with the wing depth the rangers “supposedly” have, there’s probably a significant issue.
That’s all based on if one of them isn’t claimed of course.
Neither should be protected for the expansion draft either IMO.
Wicky aren’t you supposed to be out skiing with Ilb? Make sure he waxes the skis, don’t want to have to wait too long for him to catch up.
Beezle gravity helps old men ski much faster than they can ice skate ; )
I could be missing it, after all I have been wrong before, after all I am the Minx. Having gotten that out of the way I would not be shocked if the lack of offensive production from Lafreniere and Krakko is Quinnie drilling them to be defensively responsible which probably hinders their natural offensive tendencies. I bet it magnifies
I bet it magnifies the pressure on making mistakes.
Wick, Bitetto also signed for next year. But he can provide depth on the right side if needed.
My thing about RW is proper deployment would in theory put Blackwell on the 4th line.
To your point about the top 12 next year, I think there’s an issue if someone like Kravtsov or Gauthier is playing 4th line RW and not top 9 minutes over a role playing veteran. At that point you need to allow the player a bigger role in Hartford or move on from the player IMHO.
i agree st pete. the concentration on d for the forwards affects their offensive instincts.
Alex
I see it especially in Lafreniere when he finds himself in a position to show what he can do offensively.
Adam and Ryan – The Fox and The Hound
Joe Torre hanging at Frankie and Johnnies steak house…Catcher in the Rye…
Also Mike Piazza’s drinking problem Bio. 🙂
James
so Torre can leave his 3rd and 1st base mitts at home?
Are Bruins and their one ‘perfect’ line approach due to falter in second half? Their D is meh and Kreiji showing age.
One can hope.
Alex
Could have gone with Joe Girardi on that pun but Torre used to frequent the place weekly. Coos appreciates authenticity.
Before we knew about the re-alignment of divisions I was pretty convinced Boston would take a step back this year with the loss of Krug and Chara on the blueline.
Something to be said for a team that can dominate board battles and put a hurting on you despite a lack of skill depth.
James
You’re not wrong re deployment at all. To your point a big ranger problem is square peg round hole. I think that you ideally want a gettinger or Barron on the 4th line wing next year as more “moving forward with” players are slotted accordingly.
This team will need vet players undoubtedly, but so much is in the air regarding player movement etc (especially with the not going away eichel stuff).
James, as you might know from your taxi days, Torre lived in the Bon Repos neighborhood (Premium Point) off the Post Road on the New Rochelle/Larchmont/Mamaroneck border. I would see him and various family members and friends often in the Italian restaurant just up the road and across the street. Friendly gentleman always.
I don’t think any cooking went on inside the Torre home. He was always at a local restaurant.
‘Bottle of Red, Bottle of white….’
I’m drawing a blank on the name of it but I know he liked that spot too. That’s the place where they always have the retirement parties for the LPD. I
I dated the hostess from a spot he used to go regularly for several years, Coos. She said he was always courteous and sweet. Would kind of roll his eyes when people would gawk at him.
Wick – a lot of moving parts for sure.
Bruins are gonna make a run at Ekblad ..one or two more kicks at the can with core group
Are you talking about The Cellar Bar? jk
LOL don’t think I’ve ever seen a hostess in that place, SN. Or a clean glass for that matter.
You think so Bobby? Florida is 2 points behind Tampa for first. I don’t think they’re selling right now.
If anything they could be in the race for Ekholm. A lot of noise buzzing around him and the Preds in regards to the deadline.
Speaking of Nashville, Duchene is having a Zibanejad-like season in year two of that 7 x 8 contract they dropped on his lap.
The trattoria on BPR across from Japanese steak house turned over mngt as I presume you are not talking about Augies, which relocated to Chatsworth Ave in the village
La Reserva?
tis
That’s the one. Always want to call it La Villeta which I heard finally closed up shop over on Madison.
Didn’t know Augie’s moved. When I miss that place I just go eat 2 servings of chicken parmigiana in coat closet
What can those that have had it, and the docs on here tell me about Moderna. Scheduled for my first on Monday. Was hoping for J&J, but this appointment became available.
BDL, I took the Moderna vaccine and so did all 15 doctors on staff here at my job. My father too (he’s 76)
– None of us had anything more than a sore arm to speak of after the first dose.
-Two doctors under the age of 40 were feeling crappy after the second shot and ran fevers for a day then woke up feeling fine.
– The rest of the docs, my father, and myself all did well with the second shot. A little achy, some fatigue in a few instances. I ran a low grade fever that didn’t go past 99.9.
As ILB said to me, “easy compared to the first 6 months of adjusting to parenthood”
Thanks James.
Pretty much what I have been hearing, though I have also heard the second dose could be a doozy.
had Pfizer round 1 on Monday, didn’t even feel the needle go in let alone. I asked the nurse if she really finished when she said ‘all done, you can pull up your pants now’, the shot was in the arm. oops
My daughter had moderna and after second shot was sick as a dog; but father in law had moderna and no reaction to either; something about the state of your immune system but I did not stay at a Holiday Inn last night so what do I know.
Good afternoon, boneheads!
Waiting in line to pick up car rental. Great convo today!
BDL, Moderna is a great shot. Some more information coming out. Better than JJ in a few different dimensions. Similar to Pfizer. My wife got it, so did my mother in law. No issues. I got Pfizer
Thanks all for the replies.
As far as Buchnevich. He will remain a RFA ( arbitration eligible) after this season. He will be a UFA after that, not after two years because of 27 yr old rule
Well…….I read the CDC web site and got J&J. Had no side effects and not even a sore arm. Wednesday will be 2 weeks. I could have had Moderna. Hope I did not make the wrong choice.
Ilb – so the UFA requirments is either/or? CapFriendly wording seemed to imply both 27 and 7 years.
only one Moderna shot so far BDL …no issues…good luck
My younger brother had a miserable 2 days after his second shot. I, on the other hand, didn’t even as much as feel the needle both shots. Go figure.
Coos. It’s cause you’re a real man and your brother is a wuss
😉
How do so many guys who are 26 manage to get the shot? I’m hoping I’ll get mine by early May!
BDL,
This isn’t an age joke, but generally those over the age 0f 50 have had less side effects. The % of people that go through the “doozies” is small and they’re usually under 40 from what I’ve seen. If you’re in between I have nothing to offer lol
Generally, if someone with experience and a good technique gives you an IM shot you shouldn’t feel it. It’s only the nurse Cratchets of the world that make it feel like the needle going into Drago’s arm in Rocky IV.
Beezle, I noted on my vaccine registration I was a Ranger fan….they called me a few days later

reminds me of one of nurses who i cringed when she tried to take blood. i hated when she was on duty.
1 year ago tomorrow i went to hospital. 18 days later i got out. Thank God it wasn’t worse but it was bad enough.
NO COVID!
Yes, Beezle. Either 7 year experience or 27 years of age. Whichever comes first.
PB – you missed someone on top of that list
Wow.. I may get this vax a bit sooner, looks like everyone left will be good to go between 4/1 and 4/19. My arm better not hurt James!
Getting my 2nd Pfizer shot tomorrow…. Here’s hoping I don’t feel like a truck backed over me by tomorrow night!
Interesting, James…
Is there a better television commercial than Charles Barkley getting picked first by the little girl for a pickup basketball game? If there is, I’m listening.
Saw a theoretical physicist on a documentary who is reputedly up for the Nobel. He discovered something or other about black holes and he said that the fact that his father was a Brooklyn plumber aided in his research. (Think swirling waters of a toilet.) Mind-boggling stuff.
Coos, there’s an E3 punchline in there somewhere.

Yes, sprinkles!!!
Is that the “scoop There it is”, wick?
Sprinkles!!
