Good morning, boneheads!
I haven’t felt the way I feel this morning since…I can’t even remember. Dark ages?
After two solid games against the Bruins they came out without any purpose and any structure. Against the team that hasn’t played for over two weeks and only practice once. Whose fault is it? Coaching staff, there is no way around it.
I do not remember how Trouba got injured. But I also do not remember most of that game.

(These are all common phrases Sam and joe use, which is the best part; it actually reads like you could hear them saying it )
Sam: and it went in. Ohhh joe, I think it went in….. off Johnson’s helmet?
Joe: The knob the knob. actually Sam it was the knob of Johnson’s stick. It careemed off Johnson’s knob and in for the score.
Sam: I bet he’ll take it however he can get it right now
Joe: so would I Haha
Sam: Me too hahaaaha

Lest you think hockey is tossing too much coin to the kiddies who still qualify for entry level and rfa contracts:
San Diego Padres, 22 yr old Fernando Tatis Jr. agree on 14-year, $340 million deal
JPP – that is funny

‘I’m not funny’ was meant for E3 to repeat in the manner he was above
‘Jpp said I’m not funny’ 🙂
See I’m actually super funny
Pionk better than a Trouba? Yup. Looks that way to me.
In the words of the great Brandon Dubinsky: ” Rangers are always after a new shinny toy.”
Pionk all day, baby.
If your enemies celebrate your death and take the opportunity of it to smear you in endlessly obscene ways, you got the best of the rat bastards, always, even in death.
Also watched Pionk tonight. Have come to the realization that the Rangers just can’t recognize/develop talent. Think how many good players slipped thru their fingers while they bought the shiniest bauble out there. And many of these players became good just after the Rangers let them go. Look at what they’re doing now. Lafreniere, Kakko, Anderson, Kravsov, I can go on and on. (but for the beer). It just seems like they just can’t keep the right guys, trade for the wrong guys, and it’s not a recent phenomenon. This has been going on for YEARS! I know every trade doesn’t work out, but how does a competent? organization make this many wrong moves?
Beez – re: your 11:38
Tatis’s 35 year old brother: “Hey, remember me???”
Fernando: “Get a job.”
Agree Olga
I have been saying the exact same thing for a few days now.
“I have friends who are cops. I even know the commissioner,” Mrs. Leetch said to the arresting officer. (No wonder Brian’s so soft spoken)
Our new Rover lands on Mars today.
Terra-farm that place I hear it’s red!
‘Mars ain’t the kind of place to raise your kids…’
Pionk was a big whipping boy here too.
AND on Mars?
I bet if we kept pig-oink we would have ended up with Dach and Stutzle? How do ya like them 🍎’s
As he peered over the fence at his neighbors lawn he muttered “geez that looks much greener.” 😃
13 games in:
Shoulda kept Graves, Pionk, Hayes, Mcdonagh, Miller, Lias, Staal.
22 games over the next 6 weeks. You guys let me know how much better they are without fraud Trouba in the lineup.
But I know I know.. “Well you like Zibanejad just because he’s one of two guys on this team that can actually score 70-80 points and you know…that isn’t good enough because he doesn’t do other stuff so really we should trade him too and have Chytil-Strome-Howden-Rooney until we can like trade for Eichel because um…then we’ll like have gotten rid of Zibanejad and we wont want him back like we do every other player they traded in the last 3 years except for Fast”
Coos, Elon Musk is already setting rent prices on Mars. You think it’s expensive where you live now? Just wait.
James
I said pig-oink can’t you read?
Eli,
No he can’t.
Good morning, boneheads!
Pionk is better than Trouba. Right. If DeAngelo was playing in Winnipeg he’d be better than Trouba too. If you were looking at their stats, that is. Pionk is playing for a perennial Cup contender, Trouba is playing for the youngest team in the league in the midst of painful re-stew with still questionable defensive structure. Let’s see who is better when both teams are contending.
If i could go back and re-visit that trade, knowing what I know now, I’d try to include someone else in that trade instead of Pionk. But if I was given no choice, I make that trade anyway.
Ledge is full in Rangertown the last few days. I’d like to have seen faster improvement, but this is the price of rebuilding. Lots of inconsistency and losing games that could have been won. Not expecting playoffs, but need to see improvement the last 3/4 of the season.
Let’s see if the Devil game was a one game failure of the defensive structure they had been developing or it is a longer term trend. Maybe we overreacted. I can tolerate losing close checking low scoring games. No shows are harder to swallow.
Minx,
TYM, Olga and C3 were who I was responding to.
BDL try to keep up. You lose all your steam when you aren’t talking about Zibanejad.
I have no ill will for Pionk. I was okay with him being in that trade. I don’t think
Pionk-Fox-Tony D….. or Pionk-Fox-Keane…. or Pionk-Fox-Schneider would make for a Cup contending right side.
Gravy, the ledge is one thing. It’s the buyer’s/trader’s/drafter’s remorse that still shocks me time and time again.
He won’t post to confirm this but I remember I found out about the Trouba trade via text from Wicky the night it happened. I’m almost certain that I said something to him along the lines of “Pionk is probably going to be very good but Trouba is already there and they need what he can do on that top pair.”
I would still make that trade Trouba and Miller will be a force to be reckoned with.
Trouba hits hard!
I’m going to watch the game tonight expecting the worst, but believing the best.
Having Trouba on your team is not a bad thing. Paying him too flight top pair money for a looooong time in a hard cap league is the issue. Also get very concerned when a players top attribute from brass is leadership….
.
It’s not about who was traded but proper asset management. Is the brass effectively assessing talent and making the best trade of assets to put together a cup contender.
The answer is mixed, only time will tell. Somehow the great deals they were able to get to address the middle were not cup contending 2way players.
Lots of good news with the talent pipeline. But it takes time….
Hurry up and change the draft lotto rules already.
Bottom 5 teams only right?
😉 I kid I kid.
Dont see what the rebuild has to do with the play of Zibanajad and Kreider ..your best players have to be your best players if you want to compete. Only Breadman and Fox have consistently performed
MSG Team Store selling Pionk Rock music.
SN, I would say look at almost if not every NHL team and you’ll find at least one D man that’s making that kind of money. If there isn’t one, they’re either in persuit of one or they will eventaully have to pay one of their young D men (think Q Hughes) that kind of money to retain him.
In other words, D men are overpaid in this league. It’s been that way for a long time. The best you can do as a Gm is eventually give the right guy one of those bad deals..
Kreider needs to play better; on pace for 23 goals in a 82 game season; def not good enough.
Mika on pace for 5-10-15 over 82 games. Different level of suck
Bread is a point machine but somehow plus/minus is zero?
Bread more turnovers this year..trying to do to much with due to the inept offense he’s saddled with
If Tony D learned how to play an effective D, he might become the highest paid back-liner in the League. And no job. Irony of ironies.
Dustin Byfuglien is available. Any interest in a 6’5” 265 pound d-man?
If there’s any silver lining to this season (provided it continues to be what it’s been) it’s that they seemingly have solidified the top four on a blueline that had a lot of questions.
Is he going to un-retire, AA?
Coos if my mail man had a vulva he’d be my mail lady. Is that PC? Can I say vulva?
Wonder how Panarin would be doing this season had they found that elusive upgrade at 2C…
Defense has been a nice surprise..Hajek looking better also…did they say who will be in for Trouba
I have a 2020 Vulva S90 Hybrid. Coincidence?
Can mailmen afford Vulvas?
Not a good one, Coos.
Bobby I think he said they were going
Fox-Lindgren
Miller-Smith
Hajek-Bitetto
With Miller subbing in on 2nd PP unit for Trouba.
Miller-Smith is a pretty old school sounding pair btw…Kind of Amish sounding too…
“Why are Miller and Smith together on that pair?” “Because Jacob hurt himself”…
good that Miller back
If Keenan can ask Potvin to un-retire, why not put a call into Byfuglien?
I’m sure Buff wouldn’t be interested. But what if he was?
265 lbs with one foot on the scale…
Remember when Mika started off 6-10-16 last season, welp they had 6 wins versus 4 this season after 14 games.
Right, SN. Imagine last year’s offense with the D this team has played the majority of the time this season…They averaged nearly 3 1/2 goals per game last year. They’re averaging under 2 1/2 this year.
Trouba 6’3″ 209lb $8M 492G 49/160/209 (0.425ppg)
Pionk $3M 6’0″ 186lb 188G 15/83 (0.521ppg)
Pionk more mobile, the better offensive talent and still an RFA next year. Trouba, with 300 more games, is the better defender – but I’m not sure $5M better or that PigOink’s defense does not improve to narrow/close that gap. Of course, salary likely to close too but gap will remain for at least a few more years.
No doubt, Trouba is the bigger body which he does sometimes use to our advantage. But to Olga’s point, yes, NYR do seem to give up on guys just before they break out. Personally, I’d be fine with Fox/Lindgren Miller/Pionk and a more traditional shutdown third pair. Gorton was not, or did not envision it.
James part of the better defense comes at the expense of offense, at least for a while.
BTW – I’m not hating on Trouba but am a little underwhelmed.
Beezle- agreed. But at the same time I think some of the forwards have been worse defensively this year. Zibanejad, Strome, Howden have all been worse. Rooney hasn’t been great. That’s every center on the team except Chytil who didn’t look terrible before he was injured.
Imagine if Bev was given a decent partner at the start instead of the corpse of Jack’s Johnson. Maybe he wouldn’t have slammed the gate so hard…
His absence is directly impacting the offense, no doubt about it, esp when replaced with Bitteto, who I am a fan of but different skill set.
Not to downplay Tony D’s offensive impact but I think it has more to do with Panarin. When one of the most talented hockey players in the league gets rolling in a career year everyone looks better as far as numbers. And the team’s offense looks a lot deadlier than it actually is.

And Panarin is still on pace for around 25-45-70 this year. But he was other worldly at times last season.
Smith with Miller, ugh. Poor kid. Soon he’s going to look terrible, and everybody going to ask what happened to him. I’ll save you the time, Smith happened to him.
Was thinking the same thing.
And that’s not even might as a slight.
People will see trouba’s worth now
*its not even meant as a slight to Smith. He tries. He’s become a Utility guy. That’s cool. He’ll be loved by somebody when he’s doing it for $750k or 1.1mil next year.
But without that steady anchor next to him, one would think miller might struggle
Agreed BDL. And the follow up will be something along the lines of “Well Cal Makar helps his partners play on a higher level. I guess this kid needs someone to help him lift his play. Disappointing”
Teams can also key in more on Panarin this season with Mika and so many others underperforming.
It’s like a house of cards has fallen down all because one player is feeling the long-term after effects of Covid.
The “eye test”’tells me that they are generating chances, but not finishing, while (mostly) playing pretty good defense. So hopefully it’s only a matter of time.
Yup. The hand-wringing here over Pionk is ironic considering he was a favorite whipping boy while a Ranger.
Pionk was a guy who went coast-to-coast in a game as a defenseman — that certainly did show that the kid had talent.
Beezle, take a look at Pionk’s numbers in NY and Winnipeg separately. And then compare them to Trouba’s.
The argument is that when both teams are contending ( providing Winnipeg is still contending then) Torouba will be more valuable in NY than Pionk in Winnipeg, and definitely more valuable than Pionk would’ve been in NY.
There were times in this league when offensive minded D-men were a hot commodity and took a lot of assets to trade for ( Alex Goligosky trade, anyone?) And stay at home D-men were dime a dozen. It’s all different now. The hottest commodity on defense now is a D-man with size, mean streak, who can be matched with top lines and brings some offense.
I am about to write a Go Time Post for tonight and am afraid to look at the projected lineup 🙂
I did. Gauthier quinned?
Right ilb….
Which brings us around to Braden Schneider whom we traded up for.
Gauthier Prucha’d??? Why?
Quinn to AA: “Why not?”
Done. Spoiler alert for coos- I came up with a new word 🙂
There must be one of those really good Quinnian reasons that aren’t clear to us ameteurs that have been under the impression that the kid was really good the last few games.
And you know…Howden’s been so much better. With his 40% faceoff win % and hands of stone.
Why isnt Goat boy playing?
Quinn’s brain operates in a higher plane than ours.
Kinda like Michael Jackson, Albert Einstein, and Miles Davis.
You’re gonna have to deal with 300+ posts, sorry. I’m not creating a new one to be up for only 4 hours 🙂
Lineup isn’t all that important….Carter Hart has an .897 save % this season. Which means they’re probably getting shut out tonight.
Joe and Sam will be swooning over it. “Oh man, Carter Hart has just been terrific”
BDL says it best. Quinn is scared to truly adjust his lineup. How about sitting one of these God-awful center men and throwing Blackwell in the middle instead of using him on the wing and benching a kid by default?
Ilb – not sure where you are going with the look at them seperate. Trouba 8/42/50 in 82 games for wpg in 18/19, Pionk 6/39/45 in 71 in 19/20? Wpg had 99 pts in 18/19 and 80 in 19/20 (92 on a full season). Trouba averaged 22:53, Pionk 23:23.
As to NYR time, Trouba 7g 20a in 70 last year vs Pionk 6g 20a in 73 the year before – a worse team and his first full season.
Clearly they bring different things to the ice, but I do think Olga’s point is mostly valid in that mgt (and fans) have often underestimated what the young guys become and overestimated the ‘gems’ they trade for or buy.
James – NYR 6 Filth 3.
Sure hope so, Beez.
Quinn to Gauthier “What’s your name kid?”
Beezle
I just spit up my coffee!
Rangers 1 philth 5
SN
So am I to believe that this is one of those lineups that Gorton and JD have an influence on? “We gave up Joey Keane to get this kd Gauthier. He’s the closest thing we have to a young power forward aside from Laferniere. But we think you should have him take a seat and put Blackwell in the lineup. Keep Howden playing too.”
I can’t. As soon as Gauthier starts to play well, he sits. In fact, this season in particular, as soon as ANYONE plays well, they either sit or get injured.
Eli – 2:53. Reminiscent of Capt. Queeg on the tiny minesweeper USS Caine, to the shy and elusive Ensign Pulver: ” You, you I haven’t seen you before. How long have you been on board, Ensign?”
“Two years, sir.”
“TWO YEARS? Where do you work?”
“Laundry Officer, Captain.”
And our one guy with some spit and vinegar (besides #48), waived with no return on investment.
Cooscoos;
You have Bogart mixed up with Cagney. Movie was ” Mister Roberts”. Great movie with a great cast.
OOOPs. Similar movies. Both boffo.
Beezle 6 goals or 6 shots? Just checking
James you have to remember Howden is our face off specialist
I forgot all about Mr. Roberts
And the Dread Pirate Roberts
James – they definitely discuss personnel. If may by Gorts who wants Goat Boy to sit, who knows?? That is why you want to be a GM and hide behind the curtain. Fair Warning: You can only send ONE letter to the fans….
