I hate Islander games. The Islanders always play all out and the Rangers typically don’t. They play the boring counter attack game and Varlamov seems to play well against the Rangers. That 5-0 Ranger win was an anomaly. We’ll see how it goes.

St Pete, from previous thread, for sure if there is a young center you can acquire then the Rangers 1st should be in play, but hard to see who that center would be at this moment (Dubois was a candidate, but obviously not happening). There are centers in top 10 in this draft but who knows where will be standing wise closer to the deadline and also don’t know what will happen with draft this year (some talks of moving it, but probably best not too). I’d love the Michigan center but that means we likely need another top 5 pick and not sure that’s in the cards again

Unfortunately, I predicted this type of game from the Fishsticks: they haven’t played Trotz-style in a number of games now and were due for one of those defensive shutdown games. They got one; but their goalie still had to make some incredible saves to win.

Isles are a very boring team and honestly can’t see them winning it all until they get more offensive talent. Panarin would have been a game changer for them!!!

Good defensive game..good pace…Varlamov was solid but they capitalized on mistakes and Rangers did not. Another not good enough game by Zibanajad and one of those MIA games from Kreider
I wouldn’t exactly say that varlamov has to make any incredible saves. I wouldn’t even say that about the breakaway and 2 on 1.
No doubt the Varlarmov played well but Panarin put the puck right in his glove on that breakaway. My 5 year old could have made that save.
Both of those plays went in too deep before figuring out what they wanted to do and I’m zika’s case, he just doesn’t know how to play anymore because, if he did, he would’ve actually made varlamov have to move there.
4-7 is not going to get it done. we’re almost 20% thru season too

The Shesty Laf race for the Calder trophy hasn’t taken off. Laf is better than KK was after 10 games last year, but, he is not as NHL ready as all the experts thought. They may be impact players eventually, but, it will be next year or the season after at the earliest before we know.
Kreider has 3 goals in the last 6 games; tough for a winger to play with a center who is a turnover machine these days. 20 is tied for most hits amongst forwards; he is who he is.

Last year before the shut down my son and I were discussing how it appears The DJ has finally arrived as a legit top center. This he looks dazed and confused? Howden, it’s time to realize he’s a 4th liner if that. Stromeo is just an average NHLer. Our D is looking pretty good, but if you’re not strong down the middle you’re gonna lose a lot of 2-1 games against the better teams.

Mika is a feature of this roster, not a bug. Just shows how difficult it is to fill in the center ice position. He can’t continue on this pace, recent history tells us otherwise. He will rebound. Have to believe he is biting the bullet and is more impacted by the COVID than he is letting on to the team or himself. .

They don’t have any options after him though. Maybe stop playing him on PK (he’s really not that good) as a start.

Here’s my simple take. The team that gets the other team to play their style/type of game first will usually win. Can’t play Islanders Type of hockey. Rangers have to use their speed dig in the corners and control center ice. Also, cycle and get down low. MUST SHOOT MORE
