I for one do not want to see this blog shut down over political issues. As a Vietnam Vet and a true American Patriot I am disgusted with what is happening to our beloved country. We all have our own political opinions, ideologies, and worldviews. Having said that I implore us all to stick to Hockey and keep our political conformation bias off our Bonehead blog. The Minx has spoken!
According to NYP
Chris Drury has withdrawn from consideration for vacant GM job in FL.
St. Pete-My Dad served in Vietnam as well. Thank you for your service!
Glad we’ll have hockey to watch today.
If trading DeAngelo, (along with other pieces) gets us a center, I’m all for it. Put a Steven Kampfer type placeholder there for a year and we could gain as much as $4m in cap space.
I’m with you, St. Pete. I’m sure a lot of people are as well. But I was asked to let it be on the blog so long as it’s civil by a few regulars. At least for now because there isn’t much happening in hockey and a lot is happening in our country. I’m torn. Not to mention it’s a ton of extra work for moderators. We are willing to do it. And trust me, I have my own strong beliefs. I just don’t think it’s the place to discuss it.
Carl’s: a team trading for Tony now gets him for three years, so can’t discount that added value, but him being signed to a reasonable two year deal would mitigate that somewhat if the plan was to trade him after next season. Just wonder if that’s going to be the case, but don’t think JD and Gorts will just trade him no matter what, whereas with Buch i think they should be more inclined to take the best offer this offseason to use that cap space to address either 2C, left D or bottom 6 forwards
ha Carp’d, not Carl’s!
Ilb
Phock, people could ask you for a sailboat, doesn’t mean you have to give it to them!
Judging from what Gorton, jd, and dq have said (Less so dq) since the early playoff exit, it seems the teams top priorities for the team of their pending free agent (of either designation) will be Strome and Lemieux.
One last thing from me (I hope lol)… I see the left doing the same things it condemns the right for. The right says to hate: hate illegal immigrants, hate “freeloaders,” hate liberals, hate antifa–hate hate hate.
The left says to hate Trump. Hate Republicans. Hate Russia.
Hate is hate. When we’re consumed with hate, we’re not thinking clearly. They want us to hate so they can manipulate us into doing their bidding. In this case, it’s hate Trump to elect Joe Biden.
Everybody assumes Biden is obviously better than Trump. I have yet to see any evidence that convinces me of this. To quote Chris Hedges: “Biden, one of the most important architects behind the wars in the Middle East, where we have squandered upwards of $7 trillion and destroyed or extinguished the lives of millions of people, is personally responsible for far more suffering and death at home and abroad than Donald Trump.”
American empire is bigger than any one man. The system needs to be on trial and yet we’re lumping all of the blame for generations of misguided policy on one man who’s only been genuinely active in politics for less than a decade.
I don’t have a sailboat.
I’m considering a poll. Or just asking for an opinion of majority of regulars in their posts. I feel like it shouldn’t be just the decision of people who run the blog.
I also think I know the answer. I might be surprised though.
Ilb
I’ll settle for you promoting a row boat in Central Park Lake.
Only someone like Wicky could be so extravagant. Where would he even put a sailboat? Now if he asked you for a zeppelin, that I might understand.
I wonder why Drury made that decision. Unless JD privately told him he isn’t planning to stay too long, there is no chance Drury is replacing Gorton any time soon. If JD leaves soon, however, the hierarchy will change. Another reason may be that Drury doesn’t think Florida is the place he can do much.
ILB can I have a sail boat? C3 wants to stretch his sea legs
Questionable and hands on ownership in FL perhaps?
Or maybe JG isn’t as much of a long term guy as we assume?
Aneirin
Sorry if my example wasn’t the best. English is like my third language so I’m doing the best I can.
Ilb
I believe Florida is a 💩show, and drury might have decide it wasn’t worth it.
CCCP, there is no equating the two sides in my opinion, however that discussion is definitely not for this blog. But Biden simply was not one of the most important architects of the wars in the middle east, that was Cheney, Rumsfeld, Bolton, Wolfowitz and their puppet Bush. Biden was but one of 100 senators when those wars were started and actively fought. He was then simply the VP when the new administration in which he served inherited those largely pointless and unsinkable wars and handed the essentially impossible job of trying to withdraw from incredibly destabilized and dangerous conflicts without things becoming even worse in the process. Nearly 20 some odd years on we are still in Afghanistan and the moment we leave (if ever) the Taliban will likely completely retake power and that’s not even touching on the situation elsewhere in that region
Regardless, I’m glad he’s staying.
Perhaps Ilb can create PoliticsReport1.0 🙂
The right and left are the same, people that think they are entitled and have no ability to comprehend anything other than their own selfish and extremist perspective.
It sad and quite frankly embarrassing.
Drury’s a Connecticut baby with five (count ’em 5) thriving pizza emporiums in Connecticut and lower Westchester. Played at Fairfield Prep, lives in Greenwich, has a ten year old daughter and a high-school son in school there. Healthy bank accounts. Why would he want to go to anywhere?
Speculating what the November tickets will look like, the situation will not improve at all and quite possibly get worse.
A chit cycle that started in 2008 and looks to continue in November.
I pledge no allegiance to either side by saying this, but I just want to point something out about this upcoming election- and it’s probably not news to anyone- this election for the democrats isn’t about getting Biden into office as much as it’s about getting Trump out of office. I think that casts heavy shadow that is viewed as “hate Trump”.
That’s obviously in addition to the usual antics and dog crap each side slings at each other in a normal election year.
And it’s all just exacerbated by the current state of the world/country.
Beezle
That’s a brilliant idea, ilb should get right in that.
Or on it
Bingo, Wicky. At the end of the day it’s all about who is less full of S_
George Carlin had a joke once about how Clinton got re-elected because Bob Dole stood up there and said “I’m an honest man!”…The people said “this guy is full of s-…”……Clinton went up there and said “hi everybody I’m full of s–“…and the people said “eh. at least he’s honest”
I think that’s part of people infatuation with the Don….He’s not afraid to show himself to be a POS tool that cares more about power than the people. Every other president in our lifetimes has always pretended that they don’t think or believe the things this guy says publicly everywhere from Twitter to the White House lawn…
Far Left hates Trump because there are no prestige positions or big-paying jobs for them. Same with RINOs to whom (unusually) The Donald owes nada. Always been this way. Same reason Far Right will hate Biden if he squeezes in.
James
👍
Tony’s had one large year on O. No D. Proved little in reality. Do it again. And again. And I’ll take notice.
Ilb,
You didn’t ask me, but if you did I would say no politics. There are a ton of places people can go to talk politics if they want.
Also, I really like the people here. We are all good people. I don’t want this place to become divided like the country is because we learned what each other’s politics are. I really do not want to know. I much prefer to learn what everyone’s thoughts are on 4th line center. Just one persons opinion.
i will leave it here as clearly i’m one of the few non-alt right posters here, but to think Obama was ever anything like this current president or shared any of the same personal convictions or world views is just plain wrong. Some or many of you may not have ever agreed with any of his policy positions or actions in office, but he was and still is a decent and empathetic person. The same cannot now or ever could be said about this guy, he cares only about himself. That alone should be disqualifying in choosing a leader of an entire very diverse nation, but sadly it rarely, if ever, has been across history
Give your laughably inflated ego a rest, Hoss.
Pete
Who the hell do you think is alt-right?
And quite frankly, since I believe I am the only one who included Obama in with trump (by the years I listed) as not great leaders…and YOU then jumping straight to an insinuation that I’m alt-right (you could not be more WRONG), you are exactly the kind of person that is a major problem in this country today!!!!
Your close minded, jumping to conclusion, labelling of people because their opinion didn’t line exactly up with your opinion just shows an embarrassing lack of mental capacity for tolerance and discord.
Sad, really sad.
I say sign them both…
BDL I say sign Clifford and give Barron a shot at C.
Clifford can slide in for either he or Howden if Quinn feels the necessity.
Lemieux-Howden-Clifford 4th line..
This is why the political stuff does not play here. The country is divided. Straight, unbiased reporting is a thing of the past and social media exacerbates the divisions. I am not interested in anyone’s political leanings up here and do not feel that mine are important enough to anyone else to write about them. I like this group and feel privileged to be a part of it. We should all get back to what we agree on…………..that we are glad Sather is gone and that Bettman is a weasel.
TYM
Bravo
James
I like that 4th line.
What I meant was, anybody but James thoughts on the 4th line.
Bdl
My ideal 4th line is at least 2 guys that are physically present, a centre that can win draws, and 2 of the guys that are skilled enough to score 25 points or more in a season.
Fill in those names accordingly
😉
Pete, I’m still naively hoping for civil discourse about anything we do here hockey or otherwise, including tastes in beer, metal, movies, etc. Slapping alt-right down the way you just did is not helpful, especially considering how the rest of your post was just reasonable opinion with which people can agree or disagree. As self-satisfying a zinger as you may have found labeling others as alt-right to be, look what resulted. Please let’s all just keep it civil.
Ilb…my apologies
I think under this coach, having a good 4th line doesn’t matter. Quinn rides his horses ( something I would do as well), so spending money 4th line players is wasted cap space. When the next coach gets here, then you can spend on the 4th line.
If you want to spend to upgrade the 3rd line, I’m all in.
I am going to start driving back home in a few. But I think what has been going on in the blog since 11:30 is why the answer is pretty simple. BDL, I value your opinion very highly. I was going to ask everybody, but I think the answer is right here. Let me put it this way. There is a hockey game going on, we are on the Go Time Post, and we are talking politics. Have at it as you want now, this is the last post with politics in it. Take it or leave it.
JamesG, I’ll be driving. Please watch the kids, yours including 😃
Troobuh sux.
Lol at least I don’t have to hear BDL’s political views to decide whether or not he’s a 🍆
Bdl
Excellent point on the 4th line re Quinn.
In your opinion, based on the dq deployment of players and the direction Gorton and jd have said they want to go, who is your top 9 forwards next season for the rangers?
James
Is that a cucumber?
I’m hungry.
Based off of no additions or subtractions,
Zibanejad, Strome, Chytil, Panarin, Kreider, Kakko, Buchnevich, Lafrenière, and probably Gauthier. I feel like I may be leaving somebody out. I excluded Fast. Lemieux is also a consideration.
I’ve had my say regarding freedom of expression on this blog, on line and off line, and I’ve appreciated the opportunity. Polls side, I suspect I’m in a distinct minority (of one, perhaps) that does not seek to avoid non-hockey issues when the country is in crisis. Part of that is that I don’t care for hot-stove hockey even a little, nor the endless rehashing of Lundqvist conjecture and proposed trades for every non-Ranger in the league, though I appreciate and respect that a lot of the rest of youse can’t get enough of it. For me, this blog is a small slice of my life where we share our love of all things Ranger and bicker about the details, for the most part with civility and occasionally not so much. I’ve enjoyed getting to know people here a little and finding out where people are coming from and why they see the game the way they do. Unlike TYM and I suspect a great majority of others, I am quite interested in knowing posters’ political views and to practice the art of listening and arguing (in the legal sense) points of view, and for the life of me I don’t know why we feel compelled to engage a la Twitter and call people names whose opinions differ from their own. There is no requirement I know of to act on that urge, and if ilb follows through and censors political convo, I hope we can keep things civil across the board. That said: James, You’re an ass. 🙂
I should have read a little more closely what you asked. I think JD, and Gorton would like to have Fast in the top 9, and Lemieux, or a better version of Lemieux in the top 9.
Solid point about the 4th line and Quinn, BDL.
So I guess your third line is Lafrenière-Chytil-Gauthier?
Or is Howden improving, moving up And a Chytil’s RW with Strome and Panarin?
Norm, How’s your boy Hayes looking against the Islanders?
His nickname in the locker room should be Madoff with that contract..
For the rest of this year, I follow nothing but horse racing. Horses seem happy to be here.
Wait, I missed a poll?
Well, my vote is no!
Hayes is leading the team, James, in the playoffs, on paper and from what I’ve seen. He’s still improving at age 28, no surprise given his reunion with the coach who developed him into a 200-footer to begin with. I’d much rather the R’s had kept him rather than Kreider, who’s making nearly as much, is one-dimensional and who still disappears too often.
Horse Feathers. Great movie.

Purple Hayes: ‘We won’t be fooled again…’
Horse Feather? There’s a movie about Brad Richards?
I hope fast stays. I want him to stay at a salary that’s proble 1-1.5 million per year less than he could easily get on the market.
But that’s not crazy money to make up, and someone else brought it up and I start thinking about it, but that’s a guy that I could see working for the rangers organization his entire life. Scouting or player development based in Sweden. I think he’s that highly regarded in the organization, if his hockey smarts transfer to the rest of his life, he’s definitely smart enough to do it and he’s kinda got the ideal mindset and makeup to be a really great scout.
He needs to come in at 2.5 mil or under. That’s a given. But I’m not saying this to begin a new discussion on him. But I think he means so much to the team, perfect player to have on the team right now given it’s make-up. I think the team would find itself in countless situations wishing they had quickie to put out there or move onto this guys line
This needs to be reposted, in case anyone has missed:
“ The right and left are the same, people that think they are entitled and have no ability to comprehend anything other than their own selfish and extremist perspective.
It sad and quite frankly embarrassing.”
Thanks Wick.
Now let’s just stick to mostly hockey.
The worst you can say about Fast is that he did not prevent his linemates from having career years. I think the guy is gold, does the scutwork that frees up more talented players, and his teammates obviously respect the hell out of him. It will be interesting to see what kind of money he draws around in the league and in NY. I’d “overpay” him for his contributions–complete professionals like him don’t grow on trees.
But, they’re probably none too pleased about being forced to race, get injured, then be euthanised.
YAWN!!!!
Akbar
You’re welcome. It’s not always easy being the voice of reason and logic here, but I appreciate your post.
It’s still a trap 😉
ILB- For what it’s worth, I agree. Let’s get rid of the political discussion. Thank you.
The voice of reason and logic–very important not to lose one’s sense of humor 🙂
Has Nash gotten better yet?
I have his comments on a loop following every playoff game he was ever in
“I have to better…I have to be better…I have to be better…..”
wick, i was responding to the last paragraph of James’ post at 1254 equating all presidents in our lifetime pretending not to think or believe the same thing this guy says out loud without shame. Had nothing to do with anything you may have posted and wasn’t a shot at James personally, but think that was a way off base in comparison to Obama especially, but even Bush senior and W were generally decent people (albeit not the brightest in W’s case).
Over the years on this blog it’s generally been the same cast of characters who have taken things way past the line on several occasions and topics, and think you know full well who they are and what their political beliefs are. Get it some are personal friends of yours (and others here), so i’m happy to post elsewhere.
Take care, be safe and let’s go Rangers!
I’m fine with Fast staying but not as a top six forward. He’s essentially just plugging a hole in a spot where they have a glaring need for more of an impact player and that isn’t how you win in this league.
If he gets paid as a 3rd or 4th liner and plays that role then great.
Forced to race?
Forced to be injured?
Forced to be euthanized?
Endeavor to get thyself a grip.
I’m 100% on board with what Eddie J and others have said.
Over the years since carp left it’s been brought up numerous times by doodie (whoever that is ;)) and others that this blog is kept alive by folks out of the kindness of their heart and their own « free » time in their busy lives and they should absolutely dictate what is and isn’t acceptable.
Just because a person wants to email in or post and cry and whine about things not being fair regarding topics etc on this blog is ridiculous.
If you guys that spend your time keeping it running don’t want politics, that’s the call.
It was going just fine until a troll popped up and ruined it for all.
Those folks here that want to post about current events etc, have more than enough platforms elsewhere to do so and I’d guess some do and have enough respect and courtesy for the content here to not do so here.
I would prefer it’s kept to hockey and lighthearted, cordial gibberish. Either block trolls or shut down the comments.
Just my opinion.
Pete- find a short pier and take a long walk.
Pete
I apologize for taking your statement as directed at me and I missed the part of James’ post you were referring to.
I obviously thought you were directing that alt-right comment at me and obviously did not appreciate it.
Again, I sincerely apologize.
There will be no political discussion on this blog from this moment on. So please come back, Pete. And whoever else who hasn’t been posting because of rampant politics here.
Pete,
If you are saying that you are leaving, I for one, would be disappointed. You see the game differently than I do. More of the new school way. A way that I hate, but keeps me honest and informed on how fans are now watching the game today.
Wicky, your long Post was sitting in moderation because your fat fingers typed something else instead of “shut”, lol.
Our Dear Leader has spoken.
Ilb
You leave my fat sausage like fingers out of this
And my bad, purely unintentional
Yeah Pete for real, you shouldn’t leave -not over this- had you directed that at me specifically I would have given you my feedback.
That post wasn’t supposed to be pro red or blue.
Just pointing out that all politicians have the side of them the public eye usually doesn’t say. Certainly wasn’t making the comparison you interpreted it as and if you email me privately I’ll give you my thoughts on that. I refuse to do so on this forum as I’m also not in favor of all of this political conversation.
Damn, ILB. How fast do you drive? 🙂
Ilb
And thank you for correct the error and the non political stance, I appreciate all you and other moderators do!
😘
Wicky‘S sausage links causing mayhem again… what did I tell you about the creatine?
ILB maybe a new post to make that announcement? I know a few guys have decided to back off from posting because of this..
As the blog’s resident historian, I’d like to make a point. All of this lamenting about the loss of ‘unbiased’ reporting is based on an absurd assumption that there has ever been ‘unbiased’ reporting in the history of this country (or any other). For about five minutes during the 50’s the popularity of Huntley-Brinkley and Cronkite created this myth. What’s lost here is the equally popular and undoubtedly ‘biased’ Murrow and a host of other legitimate newsmen who also legitimately advocated positions that were not popular with a large segment of the public and famously even Cronkite eventually came out against Vietnam playing a part in Johnson calling it quits.
Newspapers are not established to be neutral arbitrators, newspapers are established to make money and publishers hire editors that will run a paper is such a way that it sells and that means that the news must be salable. Anyone who’s watched films from the 30’s or 40’s that deal with newsrooms knows that they are portrayed as the epitome of duplicity and cynicism because that was how the public perceived them. (Aside – The Front Page ( Adolphe Monjou version), Citizen Kane, Libeled Lady (Tracy – Powell -Harlow- Loy) should be on everyone’s must see list).
The NY Post was established by Alexander Hamilton with the explicit purpose of opposing Jefferson’s presidency, the Hearst Papers sensationalized the Maine’s sinking in a drumbeat to war because William Randolph Hearst wanted to boost circulation. Fox News was established because Ailes wanted no more episodes like the Nixon “witch hunt”.
‘Unbiased’ news reporting, the great myth of the 21st century.
Has anyone watched the game? What happened to the mighty Bruins? Did Halak finally show he was just a back up? Or did the big, bad Bruins tried to bully Tampa and got a pushback they didn’t expect? Either way, one more game and they are out.
I’d like to hear what the Bruins commentator has to say about their chances now. I forgot this jackwagon’s name. But he should’ve been canned way before JR and Mike. Talk about hate.
I will, JamesG. At 7. Next game
I took Pete’s “posting elsewhere” as he will take the political commentary elsewhere if that’s what the community or ILB has decided. Not that he was leaving here altogether for hockey stuff.
Ilb
If it was Jack Edwards it was all about how the bruins got screwed with every call and how goodrow got beat down by the great fighter and human of all time Ritchie
😉
I didn’t see the game, Wicky. Was driving. Did Halak let in a coupe of softies?
Gauthier is going to be in great shape, he’s in the breakaway on stage 1 of the tour
Oh, wrong Gauthier…my bad
Ilb
I didn’t see all of it, it was on the same time as F1 qualifying and stage 1 of the tour…a lot of channel flipping.
That third line of Tampa wreaks havoc, a great match up line. Tampa realized they needed grit and added it in their forwards and it’s showing. Not too many teams can out possess them now and it looks to me like they are wearing the bruins down a bit.
Halal looked better than last game…which isn’t saying much.
Lol @ Halal!
I always thought euthanasia was the Chinese Boy Scouts.
Ilb
Shaddap!!
😉
Before Ilb does the shutdown, I want to second what was said about the supposed down the middle press. It was a brief, very brief, period of the 1900s when corporate management thought that would sell. Historically, the press has been anything but down the middle (read up on the Alien and Sedition Act and the late 1790s).
As to the level of political discourse, I give a link to a 1+ min video of attacks by Adams and Jefferson in 1796 (the sources are available).
NEW POST
