Below is an official statement from NHLPA/NHL
NEW YORK/TORONTO (Aug. 27, 2020) After much discussion, NHL Players believe that the best course of action would be to take a step back and not play tonight’s and tomorrow’s games as scheduled. The NHL supports the Players’ decision and will reschedule those four games beginning Saturday and adjust the remainder of the Second Round schedule accordingly.
Black and Brown communities continue to face real, painful experiences. The NHL and NHLPA recognize that much work remains to be done before we can play an appropriate role in a discussion centered on diversity, inclusion and social justice.
We understand that the tragedies involving Jacob Blake, George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and others require us to recognize this moment. We pledge to work to use our sport to influence positive change in society.
The NHLPA and NHL are committed to working to foster more inclusive and welcoming environments within our arenas, offices and beyond.

“Good job”, NHL… let’s completely ignore the fact that Jacob Blake had a knife, showed intent to use it, and was charged with at least 3 different counts of abuse including sexual assault of a minor between 14 and 18 years of age. But hey… we don’t talk about that. Shhhh…

One of my neighbors is a NYC police officer. I asked him how it’s going at work just passing by, and he slowly shook his head and said “Admiral, you have no idea… It’s terrible. I’m trying to get out.”

Not that I agree with it but It’s a free country and athletes can do as they please….I just have a feeling if revenues are driven down for whatever reason ….pandemics, social unrest, and/or fan apathy and salaries follow I am guessing they may have a problem with that
If the NHL really wants to go down this road so be it. They will be doing it without me. As many of you know I am a retired NYCPD officer and my wife of 31 years is black. I want sports to escape the chaos not to have in my face everywhere I go.
I have already dropped football, and now I may drop hockey as well.
I have a library of about 4000 books…so I will have plenty of time to read.
Perfect storm. If fans had bought tickets, they couldn’t have gotten away with this utter bullcrap. Next step, the logical extension: resisting arrest is no longer a crime. This country, under pandemic-response duress I’ll grant you, has lost its collective mind. This election season can’t end soon enough.

Free country. Free speech. People have a right to take a stand. People have a right to criticize if they disagree. Hockey will return after this.
We’ve got great people and some bad apples in every profession. And sometimes good people make mistakes. Easy to say the teacher or the cop or the doctor or the priest or the coach is always right, but that would be incorrect. Just as it would wrong to say they’re always wrong. Case by case basis. People want to feel safe. Police aren’t going anywhere, but the bad apples need to be punished. What Norm said “the logical extension: resisting arrest eventually not being a crime” has to be part of this conversation. That cannot happen. Police need to be able to do their job.
What’s utter bullcrap? The players are focused on an important human rights issue. And the NHL using their voice to condemn racial inequality – as you refer to it as pandering – is capitalism. We all love capitalism, right?

I’ll be busy with my family next couple of days. Looks like we are starting politics again, and you know how it all goes south very fast. Our next post will be Go Time tomorrow at noon, or whatever time the first game is rescheduled by the league

The schedule has been released. Basically, three games a day for Saturday and Sunday with a couple of back to backs. And then back to normal.
