Let’s take a break

Published by

I love this place. Love coming in here and discussing hockey with my friends. Hockey is gone for now. We’ve resorted to discussing COVID-19, shared some medical info sprinkled with whatever hockey was there to discuss. Then we discussed some politics. Generally, that’s not allowed here. But I figured since there was nothing else to talk about it’s ok, so long as it’s civil and not personal. That didn’t last long. I find myself in a position where I simply do not want to come here anymore because all I find here is politics and personal attacks. That’s exactly what it turned into lately. This place is about to fall apart. I don’t want this to happen. I’m sure most of you don’t want this to happen either. It’s my fault that I didn’t do it before, but at this point in order to keep this place alive long term, the best way to approach it is to shut it down temporarily. I will still post any hockey articles that appear around the web, but until there is real hockey to discuss, we will stay silent.

UPDATE: a couple of new articles from LB, click here and here.

UPDATE ( 6/16): Not much going on except Trouba is taking cooking lessons and the Fishsticks are homeless again ( two articles about that, click here and here )

UPDATE 6/17; I have two updates this morning. One, new article from Carp, click here.

And two- HAPPY 26th, WICKY!

UPDATE (6/18): Aside from the great news you all already know, I found this article about Kevin Shattenkirk. The story is a little different from what we were told.

UPDATE: Click here to read Carp’s article about Lias.
And another article by LB. Kaapo Kakko gets the green light to play.

Can we now say that Lias has quit on the Rangers?

  29. ilb2001 Avatar
    ilb2001

Yes, we can, BDL. Not sure they can get much for him at this point. But! If Chytil keeps progressing the way he has the second part of this season, it’s still going to be a very, very good draft year.

  30. ilb2001 Avatar
    ilb2001

I’m going to say this, even if it may sound too early. Gorton’s best moves are signing Panarin and Fox, and a highway robbery of Zibanejad plus for BGB ( the last one isn’t too early to say )

  31. TYM Avatar

So Lias is a goner. Too bad for a#7 overall pick. Maybe he never plays in the NHL.

  32. Bdl Avatar

Did not like the player skating ability.

  47. Old Ranger Fan Avatar
    Old Ranger Fan

So Lias will likely wind up being a throw in as part of a larger trade and TDA is all that’s left of the Stepan/Raanta trade. Drafting Lias and signing Shatty were both decisions made in an effort to retool rather than rebuild. It wound up being a flawed concept that wasted a lottery pick and left them with dead cap space. They need to own it and move on. Lias will be a bottom 6 forward on another team which is what he was likely always going to be.

  48. James G Avatar

Guess the Middlestadt pick didn’t save Botterill ‘s job (snarky) . How bad do you have to be to get fired during this lock down?

  49. James G Avatar

Lias isn’t going to have much of an NHL career. That’s on Clark and the organization. But it is what it is at this point.

  50. SN Avatar
    SN

TD is a hell of a asset to pick up in that deal. Always want a top 10 pick to work out but TD has proven he can play at a high level in this league with props to DQ for providing the ‘structure’ he needed.

Reading that story shows I probably would have been an outsider on my hockey teams growing up if I had played juniors.

If any of my teammates ever tried that crap with me or anyone else on my team. I would have been swinging my stick helicopter style at the whole team was trying to haze me or a teammate.

Any NHLer who carried on like that is a punk little boy and should have had their zzz kicked by a standup kid on the team.

That kind of crap would never go down in a locker room I was in. I don’t care if it resulted with me kicked off the team.

  53. ilb2001 Avatar
    ilb2001

CCCP and SN got that one right. DeAngelo is already the best asset in this trade. I’m going to say that even if Lias ended up being on this team as a third/fourth line center, DeAngelo would still end being the better asset.

    @Coos 7:57 – Ewwwww

D’Anger has exceeded expectations offensively and probably the low bar defensively. But Mister D does have a point about longer term – you won’t be happy with a big money/term contract if his offense falls off very much because of the quality of his core defensive play is on a good day just adequate. He’s definitely the type of player who screams for incentive clauses in the contract but those really don’t exist in hockey.

If you are able to give DeAngelo a partner who is all D, you can get away with DeAngelo being below average defensively.
I wonder if DeAngelo switched to the left side, some people may feel different about him. 🤔

  76. James G Avatar

Tony D nets the OT winner against Carolina and the Rangers win in 5 games then move on to play Washington. Book it.

  77. jpp Avatar
    jpp

The NHL is reseeding after rounds. Meaning if the rangers win the play-in round they will most likely be the lowest seed advancing (unless Montreal beats pitt) which means we’d be playing whoever gets the 1st seed from the top4 round robin.

  81. Mister D Avatar
    Mister D

I agree, Beezle. Deangelo’s exceeded expectations on the ice this season. His defense likely isn’t going to get better because moxie isn’t going to improve his hockey IQ and talent. I suppose a switch to the left side and partnering him with a defense-first defenseman could be an answer. However, if his offense drops off, his contract will look like a terrible decision.

TDA winds up being the best asset in that trade. His salary demands and the number of D prospects they have may cause them to move him. It would be ironic if they wound up packaging TDA and Lias and trading them for a 2C. (not Stepan)

If they, and by they I mean all pro sports, want to play, they are going to have to treat the virus as the flu. By that I mean, Joe Smith has tested positive, no symptoms, will be in the lineup tonight. If every player that tests positive has to miss at least 2 weeks you are not going to have to many of the real players competing. It will be a complete farce. I don’t believe they will do this, which is why I do not believe there is going to be any pro sports.

If Joe Smith is asymptomatic but contagious I’m not sure he can be in the lineup. In a couple of day the whole team may test positive. If they are unable to control infections at all they will have to pull the plug. European soccer leagues are playing. The positive tests are not rampant there.
