Rangers-2, Colorado-3 ( OT )

Published by

Good morning, boneheads!

I hope you all enjoyed this great game the way I did because this could be the last game we watched for some time. The NHL is expected to announce their decision some time this morning after the NBA suspended their season last night. I’d be very surprised if they continue to play. It was heading into the direction of playing in empty arenas anyway.

As far as this game. I thought it was very good. Colorado was without their most skilled players, granted. The Rangers were missing Kreider and Chytil too. The Rangers were a better team. More skilled, created many high quality chances. If it wasn’t for Francouz, NY wins it easily. And if Strome didn’t visit Brent Burns’ basement, he’d outscore Zibanejad in one game.

I slept through this game but was disappointed to see they didn’t come out with two points. Guess it wasn’t due to a lack of effort.
If they cancel this season it would be “typical” for Rangers fans. We’ll never know what would have happened that year they weren’t supposed to get close but got close and Mika sniffed 50 goals.
Maybe they’ll postpone it until late May and we’ll get a healthy Kreider back for the final 12 games : D

Watching Quinn these last few weeks has left me feeling that my original view of him is correct. He’s a coach that is only going to get them to a certain point. They will need to bring in a finisher. He’s not a good coach when things are not perfect. Can’t/won’t adjust. Shortsighted, and stubborn. If everything is good, team healthy and rested, he’s fine. Slightest issue, he crumples.

Right now Stock Market has halted trading. That is never a good sign. Almost fell off my chair when Butch scored in last minute. We are usually the team being scored upon. Will be really bummed out if this was the last game of the season. But like me sainted mom would say” Better to be safe then sorry”. Last thing; Is this the 1st time St Patrick’s parade has been canceled, what about world war 1 & 2 and the Spanish flu epidemic of 1918?

I’m glad I was over in UK/IRE 3 weeks ago to understand what was coming here and started to plan accordingly.
This is just the beginning of a 6-8 week period of chaos as most are just coming to grips to what is happening.

Can’t wait for the next corporate bailout; too ironic the narcissists were buying their own stock instead of investing in the firm’s future. Another raid of the treasury to save their hides in store. Capitalism on the way up, socialism on the way down.

I’m not seeing the issues you guys are with DQ. We had incredibly bad puck luck last night, the game could have easily been 4-2 NYR. The team again found a way to get a point and a lot of fans around the league would like to have a team that does not quit, its a difficult ethic to install.

Very few of you thought there was even a remote chance of making playoffs this season, even after the signing of Panarin – yet here we are, on the cusp. Had the organization slid HL out of the way a few weeks earlier they might even be securely in. But DQ’s shown no ability to create a winning team(?) or advance further.

    Beezle,
It’s not about one game. It’s about situations that have occurred throughout the season and how Quinn has handled them. It’s about what appears to be no real defensive system to fall back on when needed. Like now, without kreider. I think they are in the playoffs next year with him as the coach, he’s good enough to get them there, I don’t believe he’s good enough to get them any further than that.

  70. ilb2001 Avatar

Rob, it might’ve been spreading around in communities for weeks, if not longer, before it was identified. Some of those mild “flu” cases might’ve been that. We really don’t know. It’s still frustrating for us, medical providers, that we can’t routinely, and efficiently test, the way we test flu. By the time they identified it in Wuhan, it might’ve been spreading there for weeks, if not longer. People traveled all over.

The way pro sports teams tape off their players. I think they are the best equipped to keep their people safe.

Like if everyone’s tested and it’s a negative. Team only spends time with the time and their families. Setup direct transportation from team stuff to home.

They are probably safer than the general public.

But playing the games a luxury right now.

Still don’t understand why they wouldn’t take every player. Does the establishment fear that would create massive unrest from the rest of the population bc normal folk are being told they can’t even get a test if they want one?

It doesn’t make any sense to cancel games bc you fear you may have some undiagnosed cases in players, but then not test them

We can do guest blogs about possible end to regular season and playoff scenarios

Again this isn’t important in the scheme of making sure this doesn’t become bigger than it’s already been allowed to become.

But I’d like to either a 76-78 game schedule. Or play in games for the wildcard. Then 1st round- best of 3, 2nd round best of 5, conference finals and finals best of 7.

Then use next season to give a 70 game season a test run to A) give enough time off, B) see if less games spread out leads to a better product

  78. jpp Avatar

Thoughts and prayers to anyone who has family/friends who are sick. But let’s not get fearful and lose our heads. The measures taken in the last 3 days are smart. Countries who were agressive with distancing are seeing the results. How late are we with that here in the states, Keep your fingers crossed cuz we’re gonna find out.

But unlike a natural disaster and other castatrophic situations. We have electricity, utilities, if done right and smart a continuing supply chain with enough resources to see this out.

Combo of distancing and the weather warming and hopefully we look back on this as a wise ‘better to be safe then sorry’ event.

‘Rob, it might’ve been spreading around in communities for weeks, if not longer, before it was identified.’

Ilb, I’m going to put my story out there and let the medical professionals on this here, fully comprehensive, public service blog comment if they will.

The last week of January, I had my semi-annual check-up at the VA hospital on 23rd street. Four days later, as is almost traditional for me, I came down with a ‘cold’. Now, this ‘cold’ did not proceed in the way my normal, every day, being in a crowded room, cold’s usually developed. Usually, I get hit in the tonsils for 2 days with an extremely sore throat that mitigates the time I spend with congestion and cough to about another 3 or 4 days.

This time, the cough just showed up. The cough was so outrageously bad that at first I was convinced it was a return of my ‘lisinopril cough’ because the doc had doubled my dosage and when I first took the drug, my cough was so persistent and bad that no one in my workplace would come near me. But then came the nasal congestion and, more to the point, I was out on my feet for 3 days straight, couldn’t do more than sleep for 15, 16 hours out of 24. Now I don’t know for sure whether or not I had a fever but if I did, it was low grade. As to the other commonly described symptom of difficulty breathing, my lungs were definitely not working full capacity but not enough of a problem as to give me great concern. The third piece, this ‘cold’ lasted at least 12 days and I’ve never had a cold last that long in my life.

Now, the other thing I should mention, I said that usually I contract something when I doctor visit and confront a crowded waiting room. (Ever notice that hospitals are full of sick people, just doesn’t make a lot of sense). Well, this time I was the only one in the waiting area. I only had any interaction with the nurse and doc. (Refer back to my comment about sick people and hospitals and why they go visit).

So now, to sum, this is prior to any official news out of China but I do some perambulating in C-town and I had noticed a more than usual number of people wearing face masks. (Understand, that fob’s think that air quality here is equivalent to air quality in cities they’re used to so face mask couture is not unheard of in C-town). Unofficial news has a way of making itself known no matter how much the powers that think they be try to contain.

During this time I had interaction with a number of people in my neighborhood, including my chiropracter (who when I asked yesterday said no one in his office had been sick and one friend who I saw about a week after thinking I was done with it and who had come down with something about 10 days after I spent time with her.

So what you think, should I change my NDG to CovidAneirin?

Trump eliminated the pandemic response team in the CDC in 2018 simply because Obama created it. He has refused to hire people for simple positions within the government that would be in a position to prepare for outbreaks like this and the few people he did put in positions were wildly unqualified to do the jobs they were supposed to be doing. Also he underplayed the severity of the issue costing several months of preparation and information gathering that could have lessened the impact. He also has prevented people from adequately preparing for it by calling the concern over it a hoax and refuses to coordinate with the rest of the country and the world to communicate an effective action plan.

Every person he has placed in a position in the government has been a person who is able to profit personally from disabling and dismantling that agency they are in charge of. He has hired people who work for the car industry to run the EPA, former business owners to run the Consumer Protection Agency and others like it. It’s all fun and games to deregulate government when he’s lowering taxes for the rich corporations but when you actually need government intervention, regulation and accountability like we need right now during a global health crisis, there is nobody available to take the steps necessary. The Republicans right now are refusing to vote on a bill and calling a “radical left” agenda that would provide
    – free coronavirus testing – paid emergency medical leave – extended unemployment insurance – food assistance – help for health care workers.

So yes, Trump bears some responsibility in this.

Rangers team is having one hell of a year with Panarin , sherjerkin and the quality defensemen. Kakko is taking great strides and how about Mika Z …40 goals…and could of had 50!! I love this team and you guys are always a bright spot to be with. We will get through this. I gregarentee💪

Regarding the salary cap. From Emily Kaplan.

“Should the NHL miss out on revenue this spring — for the final three-plus weeks of the regular season, and especially in the playoffs — while still paying its players, expect the cap to dip. To compensate for that, however, it’s possible that the NHL and NHLPA will create an “artificial cap,” meaning it is not exactly created off this season’s HRR. That would help prevent some teams from entering a serious salary-cap squeeze this summer.“

Athletes have been proven to be mere mortals.

    We idolize athletes and entertainers
    We elect presidents and politicians
And yet it’s the scientists and kids in labs who are gonna be the reason we scale this back.

And of course all the doctors/nurses/staff treating these patients.

So lucky they care. What would ever happen if health care providers just decided to go home and take care of themselves in a situation like that.

Wish there was someway to help. And I guess there is. Not get myself sick, and if I do to not pass it on

I had a 14 day chronic cough accompanied with nasal congestion, lethargy bout (Low grade temp- maybe, night sweats, definitely) that ended about 5 days ago. This was the first year since I had heart attacks 10 years ago that I didn’t get a flu shot. I initially chalked it up to that and “allergies”
But in reflection, the one time in my life I actually had influenza I remember being knocked completely on my arse for 3 weeks, unable to sustain normal activity for more than 2 minutes a day.
I do fly back and forth fto NYC from Florida often.
I do remember sitting next to an Asian chap about 5 days before I started feeling flu—like.

Good guy in sports – your 11:40pm last night was spot on and you could have gone much further in your jabs at Dear Leader.
