ilb, i read “prior to” as meaning only contracts signed before CBA date are Long Term contracts, but not obvious to me why 6yrs is the triggering length as opposed to the crazier 10 year deals like Weber signed (and is subject to recapture for sure)

Despite of so many heralded so called puck movers, the biggest Rangers’ defensive problem is to successfully and timely get puck out of their D zone.

But I think howden has regressed in his step, his alertness, his quickness, his awareness. A kid known for all that suddenly comes to NYC and though the team keeps putting him out there, he seems slow in all the ways that he seemed to have strengths in.

Rangers are the worst at knowing when to change lines. Just awful.
They must’ve pumped sleeping gas or something into the Rangers’ locker room between periods. They dominated in the first but seem to have left their skills and hockey IQ in their lockers between periods.
This period was almost as bad as the first period was good.
Howden is starting to look like a placeholder to me.

Have a feeling a real honest convo/assessment is coming for howden at his exit interview. I’d foreshadow his future to him if he doesn’t go home for the summer and commit to being the best player he can be.
Wouldn’t give him up yet until you let him have his potential ‘I see the light’ summer and training camp next season to save his long term place on the team

Some Random thoughts.
If the rangers don’t tighten up on defense Igor is going to look like the goalie in SlapShot. 40 shots a night is crazy. Defense has played better lately. Not trying to tear him down but Jacob Truba at half of what we are paying him is expensive. Bight the bullet and find some one to take him off our hands. Has not every bad over payed d-man in the last 20 years not shown us that he is not going to get better.
Speaking of getting better. All of us have been wanting Kreider to take the next step to premier power forward. So now he is doing what we have wanted and management is thinking of trading him. That is foolish. We will not get anything better then him. He is a building block;to dare I say. A Stanley Cup.
How many of you guys were either too young or not born for 1994. For us old guys it was a hell of ride. I would very much like to see one more before I check out.
