BDL I’ll do you one better- What’s Panarin’s motivation to bust it out on the ice the way he has this season?
“well we’re really not going to compete for another 4 years or so but we need you to be a 100 point player while we tread water”….BRILLIANT.

And the return will be a mirror image of what the Pens paid for Zucker.
“Here’s your mid to late round first and a guy that will get traded 3 more times in the next 5 years. Have a nice rebuild”

They may tell Kreider’s agent, we don’t have flexibility are cash right now but if Chris makes it to July 1, we expect to be able to make a better offer. Than they trade him.
I’ll refer to this as my Chapman scenario.

That’s the weird thing James, there are a lot of things that point to the Rangers should sign Kreider. It really seems like a no brainer, yet here we are, looking like Kreider is going to be traded.

Nothing wrong with a handful of 30-yr. olds on the roster. With few exceptions they are on the downside of their production, but their experience counts.

Wild will be flipping Galchenyuk by deadline so the return will be a bit more for Zucker. You guys think Kreids is just gonna be move for picks…I think its more likely to be high end prospects (forwards/centers)

  7. Peanut Butter Avatar
    Peanut Butter

If he gets traded, it’s 100% he gets north of $8M plus on his next deal.
If he gets traded there’s a 25-30% chance the Chapman Scenario occurs.

kreider is a goner and the rangers won’t get much for a UFA, hopefully at least a 1st round since this years draft is deep in the 1st 3 roundsand a mediocre prospect.

There’s a guy who’s been beating the drum that the ranger would prefer to tack on an extra year or two to bring down the AAS. That with the new tv deal, at 6m per Kreiders cap percentage would be the same as it is now with his current deal.

The rangers are more concerned with having extra money in the next 4-5 years to flesh out the roster than they are about paying Kreider an extra year or so

So I say do 8 years at 5.5million. That’s 44 million. If 7×7 is the assumed open-market contract, Kreider is only giving up 5mil over the course of the contract.

By the end of that contract he’s either retired, still productive, on another team, or playing out his contract as a mentor and team guy.

And the guy I really feel deserves a call-up before the end of the year is Rykov. He’s had a tough year, has an out-clause next season. Reward him for sticking with it by letting him experience what’s it’s like if he sticks around to make the team.

I know Joey Keane’s been killing it all year, but his time is gonna come. With rykov, I think it’s important to give him a cup

Fishsticks aren’t hot at all. Still treading mediocrity since their vaunted 17 game October/November Cup win.

They’re just trapping their way to overtime’s and the playoffs and will be summarily bounced by the end of the second round. They lack the top end offensive talent beyond Barzal (at this time) and their goaltending is just good.

Trotz is a helluva coach – he’s done a lot with this squad.

Thanks, JPP! Because my rant about Kreider started at around 9;30 was interrupted by an emergency ( happens in hospitals 🙂 ). What I was going to propose is $6Mx8 years. The Rangers are the only team able to offer 8 years. Bring the AAV down, and his % cap hit will be much less when his contract is at the second part of its length. One caveat, he can not sign it until after trade deadline.

Good afternoon. Have they called up the entire Wolfpack or are there still a few players left on the team?

Remember – anyone in the THE sweepstakes is likely a cup contender or clsoe to it. So any R1 pick will be low.

If the NYR are willing to pay him order $50-55M over some term and they know he wants to stay, they should have a gentlemans agreement to re-up in the off season and use the deadline to improve the team’s future.

Don’t listen to this one then, Norm.
Kreider should be viewed as an important par of this re-whatever at its current stage. Hayes was not. Neither was Zucc. McDonagh would have been when he was traded if it were today. He wasn’t then. There is a big difference.

  43. jpp Avatar
    jpp

    8years x 6.125 is 49million

I would go to Kreids and say we want you here long term, but come the deadline if we’re not in it, we’re wondering if you’d be down to go as a rental: play in the playoffs, make some extra money and then we’ll give you 50 million spread over 8 years.

He’s in the final year of his contract. There’s nothing wrong with saying I’m gonna re-sign with the rangers but because my contract is up at the end of the willing, I can get traded and go play for a cup for 3 months and be free to sign a contract in the summer. I think it’s actually a really pure thing to do from a players POV. If your a competitor, it’s a really cool unique opportunity, and if you want to win over the long term with your team, it’s a good way to improve your team

If Kreider is as important a part as you say, ilb, they should go 7.5*7–he and I (his agent) might not want to risk seeing if 8 is in the cards at the end of the year, and we’re not taking anything under 7×7 or its equivalent, so lock him up, I say. Figure out how to offset it later.

Not meaning to be a poopy pants, but think a lot of people said the same things about Hank’s contract as suggested for THE. Yet, at the start of the season most were not happy we were stuck with an 8.5 cap hit on a backup goalie for two more years.

Say Kreider declines later. You can move him down the lineup.

Think about how much smith cost on 4th line. Krefier at 50% would be better than that. But I’m convinced that he will age well. Like Marleau

Smith was 5.8% of the cap when signed. HL was 13.2%. Today, Smith is 5.3%, HL is 10.4%.

Being generous to NYR, assume THE signs for a cap hit of 7m for 7yr and the cap goes up to 84M next season, 8.3%. To reach current Smith levels, the cap would need to rise to 132M, an increase of 57%, or about 6.5% per season at the end of a 7yr contract. So to move him down while still under contract and only have ‘as bad’ a situation as Smith, the cap would need to rise at a much faster pace, around 9% per year. The odds of that happening are slim, and slim just left town.

  78. richinhagerstownbywayofbrooklyn Avatar

I have been thinking about Lias Anderson a bit. I recall a blurb about him starting back up in the Swedish league. It seems to me there is quite a bit of immaturity in this young man. He seems way to comftorable over there. He is like a college kid off to the dorm for the first time….then decides he does not wish to navigate the bumps in the road and is now content to live in his parents basement all day playing video games instead of hacking college learning how to program them.
I suspect it is possible we never see this kid in the NHL again. Could be one big waste of a draft pick.

Just listened to insider trading. Bob McKenzie spoke about Kreider. Said there is some progress being made, but would not quite call it momentum. Said they are still running on parallel tracks with signing, and trading. Also said what we here have been speculating. If they sign Kreider, some combo of Buchnevich, Strome or DeAngelo would have to be dealt.
