Good morning, boneheads!
I am trying to figure out at what point I should stop watching these games as a fan who still believes they can make playoffs and start watching them as a fan who is looking at this team from a perspective of its future. Perhaps it’s time to switch?
If you still believe they can make it, then it’s an upsetting loss. They were dominating Dallas, pinning them in their zone, forced a PP and scored. Dallas looked like Detroit for a bit. And then one dumb, needless penalty, one soft goal, one missed call ( I really do not blame Quinn for this, btw ), and the game changes completely. They were still in it until it became 3-2, which is an improvement from early days. After it became 3-2, however, they were the same fragile team we’ve seen before. This is not a playoff team, let alone a contender.
But if you watch this game and try to evaluate what they have already for 2020 and beyond, there are things to be happy about. Number one, the kids. Chytil and Kakko keep improving, and they are already a handful when they are on the ice. How many times has Chytil come out from a corner/board battle with the puck? Kakko is starting to show why he was taken at #2 spot. Once they start scoring, watch out! Panarin and Zibanejad are true first line players they haven’t had for years. Trouba is settling well, Lindgren and Fox are both a real deal. You also see who needs to go and needs to be replaced. Smith has no place on this team next year. Buchnevich should be traded, Fast is not the same player he used to be, and with his probable contract numbers, he should be traded as well. But, probably the most important decision needs to be made now. In case you didn’t read LB’s interview with Brodeur, click here. But the lesson to learn from Brodeur story is that JD and Gorton should think what is best for this team. They have to approach Hank and tell him he is a back up next year. They would love to keep him here for the rest of his career as long as he accepts that 30-35 games next year is what he is going to get. And he should be given an opportunity to waive his NMC. He deserves it. But so does this team.
Lastly, a couple of thoughts on Kreider. Nothing changed. They went 3 for 3 on PP without him in the lineup. In fact, there are plenty of team who score a lot of PP goals without having Chris Kreider in their lineup. He is a very important piece of this team’s puzzle, and they need to re-sign him. But if he wants to make sure he gets the same money and the same term in NY as he would get on July 1st, I would sincerely wish him all the best, but I would trade him.

Have the Confederate snow sports crew in town. I took down my Union flag to make them more comfortable 🙂 Half day for me and the other boarder, sent the two plankers elsewhere for the day. Forecast changing by the minute but looks like a good amount of sierra cement on the way.. only problem this is not the sierras. Plow ready!
I watched last 30 minutes of the game. Hank looked old and team looked off in general. Could just have been the bourbon. Will try to watch most of it tonight.
Original sex LOL!

THE switched to Right Wing so he could back Trump?
Holy balls. This place is a barren (Barron?) wasteland today. We need some actual news around here. Or at least a game.

Sounds good James how about we trade somebody?

Trade Winds
19 days till deadline.
10 games
8 till bubble wrap
But, how can we possibly trade Winds when he’s not even under contract with us?
Kakko> Teenage Wasteland Lol!

Boggles my mind to this day how a stilted intellectual Anglophile banker like Eliot ever wrote such a brilliant street poem as Prufrock.
Come Feb 2th we may have bad news on the doorstep-the day THE Kreider died.
Then there was Wallace Stevens, the insurance executive, with his concupiscent curds.
I’ve come to the realization that Kreider will be traded at the deadline. I don’t see kreider taking less money to stay with the rangers.
Sounds like Diguisepe is playing again tonight. Which means no Smith. What will they ever do without Smith. Can they send him down now since his replacement is already here?
This place has always been a wasteland disguised as a hockey blog.
If Di Giuseppe starts throwing his weight around a bit, totally don’t need Smith.
Ms American Pie is Bi?

Smith has been excellent, BDL. team player. Done everything they’ve asked him to do. Penalty kill specialist. Commendable job as a 4 million dollar fourth liner that brings energy similar to Jesper Fast. The team will suffer when he’s no longer on this roster. Need team guys.
No wait on second thought, good riddance.
Or 22/7?
Something that intrigues me about Kreider is his “reported” no Canadian teams in his clause…my question is why?
I get the tax rate thing, but to play with mcdavid or draisitl, or Jonny hockey (who’s been playing not great this year imo), or scheiffle etc, seems just odd to me.
Maybe it’s all about the cash to him and the economics of it, but if not…?
Fear of retaliation for the Price incident?
At this point I just want the deadline over with. And then hopefully next year we aren’t listen to this ‘sellers again’ saga stuff.
Once things settle we’ll have a better idea of what’s left of this team going forward and what the needs may be (in addition to the current glaring ones)
Maybe Kreider just doesn’t want to live in Canada.
I think we are all going to be disappointed after the deadline. The return for Kreider is going to be underwhelming, and no one else is going to be traded.
Kreider for Trent Frederick and a draft pick. That’s what you have to look forward to.
Eye Roll
At least try to put a positive spin on it, BDL. Everyone’s going to be disappointed that he’s traded for “not enough” or they’ll be disappointed that they retain him and re-sign him. So either way there’s no avoiding the disappointment.
At least it’ll be over and done with and everyone can doom and gloom over a new problem (after doom and glooming over how the right move was to trade Kreider at last year’s deadline)
I’m hoping the Rangers are not asking for a first for Kreider, instead asking for multiple prospects.
Does the Kreider injury scare cause the Rangers to act sooner? The one thing they cannot have happen is he is neither traded or signed.
one more year of cap hell. after that there’s light at end of tunnel.
got multiple prospects in the McD / Miller trade.
color me unimpressed. be careful what you ask for BDL.
ILB,
What’s the cure for Neurotic?
Can we get BDL in for a dose?
Want to know an actual worry to have? That they’re going to cut off their nose to spite their face with this Kreider situation and make the team worse. Then follow suit w/ any vets looking for a contract extension because of the amount of bad contracts they’ve dealt with to get them to this point.
They’ll be big market Ottawa. That’s a legit worry. And the fans will play right into it because they’re too busy doing the armchair GM shuffle with their laptops all day looking at cap room and assuming that every player is washed up by the age of 27 (and coveting other teams’ players of course)
James! Yes!!!
James! Yes!!!
Echo ::echo:: ::echo:::
You can bet that Zibanejad is watching the Kreider situation carefully. People keep saying the Rangers need to sign Zibanejad. Well Zibanejad does not need to sign with the Rangers.
James, how much worse do you think the Rangers can be? They’re not good. If losing Kreider is some sort of knife-edge decision from which they can’t recover, they’re even worse than I thought. Nothing wrong with keeping him, but it’s the growth and addition of the young pups that’s going to make this team. If the Lindgrens, Foxes and Kakkos don’t keep improving, who cares if Kreider’s here or there?
think Kreider will bring in a nice haul considering the market
If kreider cares more about where he lives than the $$$$, then he will take less and stay…if the rangers want to keep him.
McKenzie today said the expected return for kreider was at a minimum the hayes return…at a minimum.
So a later first and a (opinions vary) middle 6, to 4th line to 5th line nhl player.
Norm makes a good point.
Wicky, they already have more 5th line players than they can fit in Hartford.
Unless they are going for prospects instead of picks Wick…Avs and Canes are contenders that have the most
Ilb
Huh?
I’m not saying it’s the truth, just passing on what McKenzie said.
Bracco scratched from leafs AHL affiliate. If Gorton trades Boy George for Bracco he needs to be fired.
Ilb
Never mind, I get it. You were referencing 2 different things in your post.
My bad
St Pete
Yeah, great point
Bdl
Agreed, Zibanejad is watching and Gorton better be aware of the repercussion of trading The.
