Good morning, boneheads!
How about playing Andersson between Kreider and Kakko on Saturday? If anyone deserves to be moved up, it’s Lias. It may work too. His best play was not the goal itself, but what led to it. He went to a dirty area behind the goal and took the puck away from a Flyers after hitting him ( was it Raffl ?), gave it to Namestnikov, and then went straight to the net. If Andersson had Chytil’s hands his bridge contract would be in $6-7M range. If Chytil had Andersson compete level….Ugh…
Time to trim it. I believe the defense is set. Smith made sure last night he is staying in NY. So Trouba, Fox, DeAngelo, Skjei, Hajek ( boy, is he steady), Staal, Smith.

BDL, I just read your comment on Skjei/Smith and Trouba/Hajek. I noticed that too. Trouble is, it’s too much to ask for Hajek to play 1st pair minutes, and you can’t have Skjei play less minutes than Staal.
Lol@ Carp’s comment about Voracek!
Wasn’t a suggestion ilb,
Just an observation.
Reading Carp, he either knows Chytil is staying, or hasn’t been paying close attention to the way Chytil has played.
IMO, Kravtsov did more to stay than Chytil.
I agree.
Perhaps one last tilt for the Don on Saturday before final decision. He’d have to really impress though, and in more ways than potting a goal.
There is very little in between with Weddingman – either gritty and good d or running around out of position. I’m fine with him staying up if its mostly the former.
I know Ilb wants to push Lisa into that 2C but maybe better to let him solidify his game on 3/4 with Howden. 2C is asking for a big jump from a guy who was mostly AHL last year. Let him (or Howden) take the job from Stromeo later in the season if warranted. Unless Stromeo has a really lights out year, its going to be one of their jobs next season for sure.
Nah, not pushing for it. But he certainly deserves a try on Saturday.
If there’s an observation to be had about Lias it’s that he may be a guy that benefits from a coach that exhibits “tough love”. Not that he’s a head case or problematic when it comes to attitude etc, but he’s still very young and may need to be reminded that his spot and his responsibilities have to be earned.
I think the best is yet to come with him this year. I really hope he surprises some people.
Some players understand what it takes. Even at 20.
I do wonder if coach Q has distributed more opportunities to Chytil than to Lias in order to give Chytil a chance to show what he needs to show while feeling that Lias will be alright in the long run and can create his own opportunities.
He’s certainly more of a Quinn type player. As for Chytil I think it would be a stunning if he made this roster again given his performance this preseason.
Well said, ILB. And quite honestly, as we know it’s a long season. Wherever things stand when they hit the ice for real next Thursday isn’t necessarily where they’ll stay.
At this point, if Chytil doesn’t start producing he won’t stay in NY. Andersson will, even if he doesn’t produce much. Simply because they bring totally different things to the table when they aren’t producing.
It would take guts for them to send Chytil down. I don’t think they have the guts. If he goes down, that will be the JD influence.
When Andersson just started here, I thought that he will be Callahan light. Now, after exhibition, I believe he would be Callahan with a certain upside.
Most of us want certain players to make the roster or think they should, regardless it’s going to be nice to see some talent in Hartford that isn’t professional AHL talent.
At this point, based on this preseason and last season, of the 3, chytil deserves and needs Hartford.
It will be a shame if the organization rationalizes it any other way.
Agreed, BDL. I think JD and Quinn also see eye to eye in regards to how this team should play. I think he starts in Hartford.
Speaking of the young players, I feel like we really haven’t spoken about/seen much of Kakko. I suppose going unnoticed is a good thing for an 18 year old rookie.
Kakko will be this season’s Chytil; will be up here whether it is deserved or not. Prolly take some adjustment time and some growing pains but KK can play on the wall and goes to net and stays on his skates; things that Chytil cannot do.
I wouldn’t just start Chytil in Hartford, I would leave there for the entire season. He clearly needs time to develop. Learn how to be a center/wing. To talented a player to continue to let flounder.
Fogarty on waivers? Centerfiekd?
If you listen to SalmonJoe and their never-ending bullchit, you would think that we are going to the Cup final.
Chytil just looks lost out there. Makes you wonder did this kid play hockey before the Rangers drafted him.
Ever notice with these two that no one in blue ever does anything wrong, or if they do, they’re never named? Matter of fact, they go out of their way to praise and promote the worst perpetrators.
Rich, he played a little in the czech league, which is fine but below the KHL and Swedish elite at the very least. He needed to be placed in a structured system where he could pick up the right habits for a year or two. The rangers instead went another way and he still looks like a kid who needs to learn what it means to play pro hockey. AHL may well be the best thing for him as long as he has some decent offensive talent to play with.
I thought i read that’s quinn didn’t want any of the kids playing 4th or am i imaging that? not suggesting Chytil goes there (not a good fit), but if that is still quinn’s thinking it will be interesting to see how things play out.
And if they think he is ready 3rd line would be a fine place for Kravtsov to start, a guy like Names shouldn’t be a block there
Love these 6’2, 210 lb. guys who never learned how to throw a check.
Hank plays his best when his dipchit Dmen stay the hell out of the way.
Jagr was 6-3, 230 and never learned how to or needed to learn how to throw a check. one time he tried he dislocated his shoulder! different strokes
Grow up, Pete, Captain Obvious. Obnoxious goof.
Exactly to whom on this long roster are you comparing with Jagr?
I definitely remember that play Pete of Jagr
Another reason to start Strome in top 6 is if he is productive there, he could be a nice trade chip if we know we cant afford to keep him. A top team at deadline cap strapped and needing center depth for a playoff run may pay for someone like strome.
With all the player pros and cons about how they played last night, the bottom line for me, they beat the filth!
Of Jagr….Sounds like a handmaid….
Think it took more guts to send Lisa down last year (as a #7 pick) than it would to send the Don down. I don’t think anyone should be surprised if after 5 or 10 games that Kakko goes down to if he looks lost. But I do think they want to see what he has in some real game environments before making that call.
What I’ve seen from chytil in the pre-season, he should be in Hartford.
Maybe Evgeny Grachev can talk to Chytil and tell him it’s a fine line to make an NHL career or to become a bust, and you really have to work hard 😓
ISS from Chytil draft year
“Chytil is a speedy player with good hockey sense and offensive skill. He is a very good skater, with very quick feet and balance on his edges that allows him to generate good power from every stride and high-end acceleration in his first few steps. He’s a guy you will need to have patience with as he takes a few seasons to add strength, but he could be well worth it.”
Hmmmm. Patience they mention eh? What’s that?
Laine looks like a serial killer from the 70s. Jets locked him up on a two-year bridge. I’m sure Connor will follow shortly (unless he did already and I just haven’t heard)
That’s an awful lot of thinking, Beez. You must be exhausted. 🙂
Jagr…cccp loves that guy.
He’s a first ballot hof’er for sure. One hell of a wingman, not a guy you centre things around to win a championship with though.
James it was the sugar from the oatmeal raisin cookie I was eating. At least I think so 🙂
DQ in his presser said they prefer to keep 23 and the cap doesn’t matter…wonder if gorton and JD agree?
He aint keeping 23.
Ugotz!
Yeah, that’s why I thought it was funny
Was it a really Carp? 😃
Why do they need 23, especially at the beginning of the season?
I think we had a sighting of the elusive Carp…
https://media.giphy.com/media/iFmNfHPJbIsMecd1J7/giphy.gif
Ilb
You got me, ask DQ, he said it.
😉
You keep 23 if you are unwilling to do the right/difficult thing. Smith and Morrow stay as 7/8. McKegg and Nieves stay as 12/13. Something like that.
2 goaltenders, Hank, and Georgiev
8 D. Trouba, Skjei, Staal, Fox, DeAngelo, Hajek, Smith, Morrow.
13 forwards. Zibanejad, Strome, Namestnikov, Kreider, Panarin, Fast, Kakko, Buchnevich, Lemieux, Andersson, Howden, Chytil, McKegg.
Bdl
In the presser that I saw DQ said he only wanted 7 D, and implied 14 forwards to get the 23.
Then no Morrow, and add Nieves.
Nieves…ewwww
I can see them keeping 23. Even if it makes zero sense, and effects the cap.
I’m not convinced it’s Quinn’s decision only.
You should have seen the rolling eyes from others in the organization when DQ said yes to the 23 question. He obviously hadn’t thought it through. … one extra F, one extra D=22. One game in like 12 days after the second game.
Yup. Gorton May have something to say about it.
Carp, chances of Kravtsov staying? Or both Kravtsov and Chytil?
I think McKegg is on the team regardless as the 12/13. I dont believe they have the stomach to send Chytil down. I still do not see a spot for Kravtsov. It would not shock me at all if they send Andersson to Hartford, claiming not wanting him in a 4th line role. There are some tough decisions that should be made. And I don’t think they have the marbles to do make them.
They’ll need both roster and cap flexibility down the road when Shesterkin is ready to play a few games and Georgiev can’t be sent down without waivers ( 17 games)
Andersson isn’t going to Hartford, BDL.
I think the funniest thing to see is the reaction of some of the chytil fanboys if he was sent down and they kept Haley.
On entrainment value alone from the chytil crowd would be priceless.
Snow, Wick?
Yeah not liking the new ESPN fantasy layout screen. Not liking it at all.
Btw, still no DRAFT TIME for Yahoo old man league and the ESPN league. James, you’re lagging behind, bro.
I’d like to believe that ilb, I really would.
Ilb
Tomorrow
Heard. Quite a bit, too
Yep, if the weather folks are correct (no offence Craig)
What’s a good day for yous to draft?
C3 – talk to my patients. Everyone keeps falling and aspirating this week
Ugh..Sorry, JamesG
I’d say 50/50 on Kravtsov, ilb. Chytil, I’m pretty sure, is staying. … they’re pushing his buttons. Andersson isn’t going anywhere. and if McKegg makes the team, Nieves doesn’t, IMO.
Took me a while to realize that Carp and everyone here wasn’t hating on poor Adam Fox #23.
I voted for Fox for the Lars-Erik Sjoberg award as top rookie in camp. It was, for me, either Fox or Hajek or Lindgren.
I voted for carp, he’s only 26…still young for a rookie
just as funny as seeing the reaction of some of the howden fan boys if he is the 4th line center?
Shamanistic visions.
The rangers have not assigned jersey number 22 to anyone. oHmmm?
BB
I want to see
Mika
Andersson/strome
Howden
Boyle
I’m sorry to say it but as constructed right now the only reliable defensive center on the team (Mika exempt bc hes our scorer) is strome. and if constructed strome has to play the 2C then we are weak and inexperienced defensively in the bottom 6.
This team needs Boyle
I see what your doing BDL.
In his old school way, he begging the rangers to send chytil to Hartford, by proclaiming over and over they don’t have the stomach for it.
Questioning their stomach to drive them to prove it.
I don’t want to watch chytil here for starts. He’s not ready. I don’t want to listen to msg talk around it for weeks and quinn dance around it lineup wise and most importantly I don’t want trying to give him a shot to block a 4 line flow from evolving from the get go. I mean WTF.
He’s 20. He gets to play with kravtsov and a much better team in Hartford. Based on the numbers and guys with one year deals, 2 forwards are gonna be moved at some point during the season, spots will open up.
Half season playing in Hartford and then the never wanting to go back feeling when he finally gets his shot. Best thing for him
Howden as the 4th line center would be fine. He’d kill penalties, get a semi regular shift, and if he was going well you bump him up. No harm in that for the team. Now, putting a player who is not worthy of being the 2nd line center, at 2nd line center, would not be a good thing for the team. To many other players affected by this move. It would undoubtedly hurt the team.
And that’s what force feeding chytil onto the 2nd line center would do
Any time is good for me, James.
That’s what she said
Even if Howden is 4C, he’s getting 8-12 mins a night and DQ doesn’t seem to have a problem with playing a 4th line more if they are bringing it that night. Lisa as 3C is fine too. If these kids are worth anything at all, they have many, many years ahead to move up to 1c/2c if merit is there. Don’t understand why so many are h*ll bent to get them there tomorrow. Is it just the ADHD/instant gratification world that we live in now?
‘snow telling how much snow Montana will get. Still September.
personally fine with howden at 4C as think his game is more bottom 6 than top 6 when all is said and done.
Helluva thing if you can’t say ‘hell’ in late 2019.
Did the blogfather make an appearance yesterday?
I voted for Haley for Best Newcomer who will Throw award.
They should be rushing Crapsoft and Chesty to Hartford along with Don and Selma; two wild and crazy guys!
Hayes makes me laugh
What a greaseball. Makes me look clean-cut 🙂 lol
https://twitter.com/NHLFlyers/status/1177942020373041153?s=20
Hayes is gonna get detained entering whatever country they are going to. They aren’t gonna let him in.
‘The Gang’, LOL.
Haze: ‘I finally make enough money that I can pay-off anyone who tries to arrest me.’
Pete
Howden is perfectly fine as 4C. He’s a young nhl caliber centre that has plenty of room to grow.
I guess I’m out of the what’s funny loop.
Oh I get it, that was just your weak attempt at being combative because I said something about chytil in the minors.
Dang it, always forget that pesky “;)”
James
What ever time works for you.
Anyone who thinks he even might be sent to Hartford would be well advised to get his gun permit application under way.
This link https://theathletic.com/1167323/2019/09/02/2019-20-nhl-season-preview-new-york-rangers/ details Howden’s weakness on defense as one of the worst defensive players last season. Not exactly what you want on the 4th line.
4th line must ideally be good and be inspirational.
Oh please.
Anybody who saw howdens season as anything other then a confirmation that kid can have a long career in the NhL is puzzling. The team was a mess, he got injured. The kid clearly showed he can play, he has under his belt and a summer of training and better linemates or linemates who should also be better and a better team around him.
It’s so crazy people are down on howden yet think chytil is a lock for a spot and should be handed 2C
*Year under his belt
Ruff has beer under his belt.
those advanced stats for Howden’s first pro season are mostly nonsense. … I mean, in terms of judging the type of player he will be.
also consider with whom he was playing (McLeod, etc.), and which D pairs (not even the “first” pair of Staal-DeAngelo), and the firedrill of a defensive team overall …
Annoying how stat boys and stat girls think that hockey is like baseball metrics.
That’s what I mean about rangerlands take on howden/chytil.
Thank god it’s not a democracy 😉
Is there a heat map for Carp visiting this blog? Something tells me it’ll look weak in all areas compared to all the regulars that visit this blog 🙂
I want to know how were Howden’s heat maps? Everything else pales in comparison.
Heat maps!!!!
Heat Maps Howden!
The blog father returns!
Lineup for tonight, anyone?
I’m not playing. I don’t know about anyone else. I have an upper through the lower body injury. I am day to day, week to week.
Please chill with the heat maps.
Chill maps.
Supposedly, Kravtsov, who normally is a RW, will play tonight LW with Howden and Chytil.
To me, Kravtsov skates and sees the ice like a center
Chytil scores 2 tonight just to make things interesting around here
20 years old. Maybe we give him another couple of minutes to determine his standing.
Wonder if they still stay up late in Czechoslovakia to watch the wonder boy.
