You guys hear the one about Hayes buddy telling a ranger fan this June that ‘the only way he signs with the philly is if they really overpay for him’

You guys hear the one about AV wanting the panther game but the panthers wanting Q, and how the flyers wanted Berube but winning the cup locked Berube into an extension there?

    Yeah me neither

  3. jpp Avatar

Know he gets lost in the shuffle this training camp but I really liked gettinger last night

Me thinks the rangers are hiding him a bit here, think if he played the bulk of these preseason games there would be a lot of hooting from the fans that he should be on the 4th line, except there is just no room for anyone aside from the usual suspects right now.

So long as we have a bevy of players with spunk and grit, I don’t need a Glass or a Haley. I think Q is developing this.

Asked Carp this: thought I’d re-print it here for your consideration.

‘Good locker room guys?’ What’s he talking about? Guys who will loan you their soap? Yoosed to define loud, respected rah-rah guys with wit who demanded 100% effort.

You can have all the tea in China and still not find a good cup of coffee.
You can have all the high draft picks and prospects acquired through trades that come with a rebuild and still not find “the right stuff”
This will be an interesting season or two, for sure.

    James,
On the Giants, I’m trying hard to be into them. I like Jones, and I am rooting for him to well, but it the whole thing just doesn’t feel right. I’m forcing myself to watch them, but I think my love of the sport is fading.

Papa – reminded me right away of Van Morrison’s ‘Tupelo Honey’ –

    PB,
That is why I was never a fan of this rebuild. You can find yourself in a constant rebuild never making the playoffs, constantly trading away good veteran players in exchange for hopes and dreams.

This season will be very frustrating for many as the bottom will be reached. This D still is not ready and the center position is has one accomplished player. Henk will be thinking about NTC by December.

BDL, I hear you. Kind of like if they wind up with a top five pick again they’ll take another QB?
That’s the feeling I get with them. Also not a fan of Gettleman or the coach

  14. St Pete Eli Avatar
    St Pete Eli

These games are meaningful on an individual basis for sure. There wasn’t a lot of cohesiveness and that just points to not much time playing together. Lindgren is what this team needs on D, I was impressed with Lias’ compete level. Kreider will always be The/If!

  15. Beezle Avatar
    Beezle

“I loved how he competed, I loved how he squared to the puck. He battled,” Quinn said. “You don’t see a lot of net. I just really liked his game.”

Granted, Churles was late so missed the first and honestly paid more attention to the beer and grilled bovines that the painters provided. But I don’t get giving up four as an outstanding effort. Even if those in front of him were terrible, his job is to be the last defense. We coddle the goalies a little too much.

  16. James G Avatar
    James G

You guys do realize that they’ve played three pre season games right?
And that two of those games consisted of their B and C squad players against other teams’ nearly full starting rosters right?

Okay, just a pre-season game but I’m getting a bit tired of Kreider and his justifications for taking nights off. I like the guy, but he sometime make me grit my teeth.

  19. TYM Avatar

Kevin Hayes. Good riddance. A few more observations: Jake Trouba is not the messiah. As #1 D go he is one of the weaker ones in the league. If SkjeL does not step it up the defense will be as bad as many have feared. As for this exhibition season, there is no reason to think they have a clue about a defensive system or the way to keep copious amounts of pucks out of their own net. The goalies have played well in spite of giving up 4 per game. It IS only preseason, but so far, the best thing about it will be watching youngsters progress. And also…………..watching last night reinforced my opinion that Kravtsov start in Hartford,

  20. Beezle Avatar

James – another comment DairyQueen made was about the team being ‘fatigued’. Really? Already? And what about the Filth and Derbils? As I said, my attention was elsewhere but do expect the team to compete hard even when getting their butts kicked. Didn’t sound like that was the case?

  21. ilb2001 Avatar
    ilb2001

Cut the roster, leave a few extra guys. They need to start playing all three young guys at center at the same time. Give them different assignments. This 2-3-4 center position is far from clear, even less than it was before training camp.

5 out of 6 D-men from last night will be playing in October. Maybe all 6. I wouldn’t worry about how they looked last night. Trouba and Skjei including. They spent 2/3 of the time in their own zone, outmanned most of the time, without any forwards support. Including not having anyone to pass coming out of their zone.

  24. James G Avatar
    James G

Lol I read that, Beezle. Proof that Quinn still isn’t as seasoned as a coach in NY needs to be when dealing w media.

  25. James G Avatar
    James G

ILB the thing of it if this team is going to be successful to any degree (including taking a step forward from last year) they need the forwards to support the D men in their zone. That starts with the centers. It’s part of why teams build roster with focus down the middle.
I agree that they need to start figuring out who is going to start where. Can’t just situate the most important position on the ice by doing it piecemeal

i want to see chytil play with Kreider and kakko for the next two preason gsmes exclusively. And then I want to see kreider/kakko with andersson in the final game

  30. ilb2001 Avatar
    ilb2001

BDL, then you have to move Chytil to the wing. Something I’ve been mentioning last year. They may have to do it, eventually. Only two games though. But so far he hasn’t shown he belongs at center. Anderson, on the other hand, made many positive strides

  31. ilb2001 Avatar
    ilb2001

It’ll be an interesting situation in goal this year. And sooner than we thought, I think. Georgiev needs to play 17 games, and he is waiver eligible. Shesterkin needs 60. So they have this season to sort it out.

  32. Bdl Avatar
    Bdl

The Hayes goal told you all you need to know about Chytil. That was about as pathetic an effort you could possibly see from a player. A young player fighting for a prominent role no less.

  33. Bdl Avatar
    Bdl

    Ilb,
I suspect they have no real plan on the goaltending situation. They are going to send Shestorkin down and hope he doesn’t leave, and then they will play Hank 60 games.

  34. ilb2001 Avatar
    ilb2001

Doubt that, BDL. Hank should play around 42-45, the rest should be Georgiev/Shesterkin, maybe 25/15 split between the two of them.

There have been some positives. Lindgren has been one. I felt Hajek played a solid first game. I thought for the first two periods last night he struggled. Then he really battled hard in third. I think that is s good sign that he didn’t just give in to a poor game.

Hajek was better last night than against the Devils. Again, the defense was left on their own last night. It may come down to Hajek vs Lindgren, unfortunately. Question, is it really bad for their development if both Hajek and Lindgren stay in NY? Rotate them, give Staal a few nights off. Lindgren can also play on the R.

Best thing about preseason thus far is Lias Anderson showing he can play. Good instincts. Gritty. Had soft hands to take control of the cross ice feed in front of his own net and get to safety.

Glad he wasn’t more hurt at the end when he went awkwardly into the end boards with his head. Ouch!

  47. cregg7 Avatar

Chytil not good defensively. Looked ok on the PP hash mark (pp2 guy when kakko not out there)

If I were in charge of their preseason roster, this is what it’d look like tomorrow morning:
Forwards: Panarin, McKegg, Nieves, Strome, Fast, Kleider, Howden, Kakko, Lemieux, Andersson, Chytil, Kravtsov, Buchnevich, Namestnikov, Zibanejad, Haley. ( Haley for possible preseason shenanigans against the Fishsticks and Flyers).
Defense: Trouba, Staal, Fox, Hajek, Smith, Lindgren, Rykov, Skjei, DeAngelo, Morrow.
    Goaltenders: Hank, Shesterkin, Georgiev.

  56. ilb2001 Avatar
    ilb2001

That’s 29. Haley and Morrow will be released. Unless they want to sign Haley to a one-way, minimal wage contract and send him to Hartford to watch after the kids and provide some leadership. Rykov and Smith will go to Hartford, most likely. So is Shesterkin. Leaves them with 24. One or two forwards would have to be cut, depending on whether they decide to go with 22 0r 23. Am I missing someone?

  57. cregg7 Avatar
    cregg7

Pop Geertsen in there for the shenanigans. Paired with tonyD

Let’s get some offensive chemistry going!

I’ve Seen enough of lindgren to say he’s earned a spot.

Trouba has seen enough preseason ice to only need one more.

If Haley is signed to cheap one way contract and plays in Hartford, does it affect the big clubs cap at all?

If not, why is belesky and smith costing cap space even if in Hartford?

I should know this but don’t

  59. 4everanger Avatar

If you believe in mathematical progression, Rangers, after previous games with 4:3; 4:2 and 4:1 sequence, should loose next game to the Isles – 4:0 coming Tuesday. Capisci? How about that for prediction?

Chytil may well be the farthest away defensively of the three, but they still may start him st #2 center because he has the best pure offensive ability if the three as well. In any even need think some people are over-evaluating at the moment. as jpp mentioned, let’s see the expected lines together for a couple games. Honestly i don’t understand why quinn has purposely not played any of his expected forward units together yet

I have lowered my expectation of how they will do this year. They racked up a lot of points early last year relying on Hank to a great degree. With all the new, young faces I am expecting a slow start as the roster gets sorted out and some guys may shuttle back and forth to Hartford. I had originally thought they would surpass last year’s point total, but, they may well not. Especially if they sell off CK and others at the deadline. They may not break 80 points. They could have a ” better team” that isn’t reflected in the standings.

  93. TYM Avatar

I agree with ORF. Expectations above his are not realistic. They need to grow, gel and kids need to mature. They also need to play in their own end……..which forwards failed to do for the most part last year and no one has done so far in the exhibition season. This project is going to take awhile.

  94. Loneranger Avatar

We do have enough young, quality talented players to make this year interesting. Not enough of a North/South system, however. I just worry whether Quinn will have a cohesive defensive system in place for the season opener. In all games so far we played like crap. The Russian goaltender is real good and hope he sticks and plays a good part of the season. No open areas around the net the way he positions himself.
