Happy Canada Day!
So it all begins at noon. We are about to find out a lot of things. Including the destination of Artemi Panarin, who according to many different sources, went from NY Rangers to Panthers, from Panthers to NY Islanders, back to Florida, and eventually circled back to Columbus. I don’t want to link all these articles since it’s all irrelevant now. I’m sure you’ve seen them all. Except this article by Carp, and some thoughts on why the Rangers should or should not sign Panarin by LB. The Jackets, by the way, have lost their upper hand in landing Panarin since they only had until midnight to sign him to a 8-year deal. That deal hasn’t been announced, hence everyone can only offer a 7 year deal at noon. Apparently, Panarin rejected a $12M, 8-year deal by Columbus last night.
I’m also hoping to see a couple of offer sheets around the league. Time to break that imaginary barrier, it’s in the rules, use it!
I’ll be busy, but Wicky got my back, as usual. I hope?
I’ll tell you my feelings about it this morning. I really want them to sign Panarin. Bad. I want this STEW to be fully cooked as soon as possible. Hey, I’m a Rangers fan, emotions take over. But once my head prevails, albeit for a short moment, I hope they don’t get into a bidding war and end up potentially crippling their Cap for many years, which may prevent them from signing much needed pieces when they are truly ready to contend. So I hope JD and Gorton do their job properly, and do not overpay, at least not too much. Because I would! Luckily, I’m not in charge.
UPDATE: The Rangers have traded F Jimmy Vesey to the Buffalo Sabres for a 2021 3rd round pick.
MORE IMPORTANT UPDATE: The Rangers have signed F Artemi Panarin to a 7 year contract worth a total of $81.5 million (AAV: $11,642,857.14).

Coos,
I was just kidding man. My partner used to say to me all the time
I just love the line regarding egos
‘Chain that s@$t to a tree’
Can someone catch me up on who hates who here? Besides everyone hating Wicky.
Underrated signing: Charles Carroll of Carrollton. John Hancock got all the press, but that dude signed the Declaration of Independence including the name of the town like a baller.
Booby bite your tongue! Just for that the Alchemist will cut production in half because you hurt their feelings!
Why haven’t we signed Lee yet? 7.75 per, Manhattan discount
Montreal signs Aho to an offer sheet! Not that high of a number, Carolina SHOULD match.
There’s NO way Carolina doesn’t match. Weak sauce, Bergevin, weak sauce….
I’m now reading that this is just the offer sheet they’ve tendered. It’s unclear whether Aho has actually agreed to it.
I wouldn’t sign that offer sheet if I were AHo.
Smells like something fishy between Carolina/Montreal
Carolina gets him at the deal they want
Montreal gets to sell they were aggressive and tried to get Aho, when they end up striking out in UFA and improving their team
*not
Gregg McGegg, and Danny O’regan.
Gregg McKegg and Danny O’Regan signed. McKegg is meh. I literally don’t know who O’Regan is
If you eliminate biased and incompetent refereeing from the equation, the Rangers could win it all in the next 3-5 years.
McKegg will be lucky to see >5 NHL games this season. O’Regan won’t get a sniff. Nice signings for Hartford, but they still need that Mark Letestu-type down there. Or even Mark Letestubebaby himself.
O’Regan played for Quinn at BU. Seems like a signing for Hartford though.
Weird offer sheet. Even with the front-loading of the contract, it’s something Carolina should and will match easily. And they could’ve gone up $1.5-2M more, at the cost of an additional R1, and actually gotten the player.
Instead, Montreal gets to twist in the wind for a week while Carolina takes their sweet time matching.
Just…bizarre.
Downside of Montreal’s offer sheet is they have to sit on their hands for the next 7 days while Carolina presumably draws out their decision to match.
If they don’t match, might as well pack it up and move the team
Panarin left $14.5 million on the table to play for the Rangers. I guess that puts to bed the notion of some that all athletes are out for every last dollar.
Where did you get that number?
https://twitter.com/brianhedger/status/1145733442413453312?s=12
He could have had 8 years at 12+
$11.6 million ain’t chump change!
Is Kreider still in the pool or is he getting ready to jump?
Gorton needs to act fast and move Fast real fast to the flyers fast!
So the dog just busted through the front screen door to go chasing after bambi in the woods. So glad I got this tracker thing on him. Everytime I need it, as soon as I load the app on the phone the dog has come back. Brilliant product!
Oh, the BS Columbus offer he got with less than 6 hours to negotiate and months after he decided he no longer wanted to live in Columbus.
And there’s no info on what the bonus or salary structure was. That could have been all salary, it could have been backloaded, it could have not involved any movement/trade protection, etc.
Has any on else failed when attempting to post you tube clips here? Do they go to moderation or some other place?
Bruins are awfully quiet. Of course the scummy Celtics made some nice moves.
ORF I had a post with a link I put in disappear the other day. Normally if it goes to moderation you’ll see the post but it will saying ‘Waiting for Ilb’
NBA players hate Dolan. NHL players have no idea who he is.
And folks said there’d be no offer sheets.
Bruins haven’t been that quiet. They made a few small signings with Brett Ritchie and Maxime Lagace being the biggest names.
https://www.prohockeyrumors.com/2019/07/boston-bruins-announce-several-signings.html
Obviously more moves are coming for the rangers, right? They still need to extend Trouba, looks like kreider is a goner, not happy about that, power forward with speed and size which you need in the playoffs, still weak at center depth. I still don’t understand the panarin signing but reading the islander fans crying made it a little easier to take.
something has to give, rangers have roughly 8 mil left in cap space.
I’m sorry. I meant quiet in terms of big names. I’ve never heard of Ritchie or Lagace.
Just foolin’ around, jpp. Geesh.
Bee’s may go hard for Kreider!
Lol, st Pete said “hard”
Carolina will now have Montreal in their crosshairs for YEARS. Take it to Chase.
RICK CARPINIELLO: We’ve said all along that Rangers GM Jeff Gorton was planning to accelerate the rebuild this summer, and boy has he done that. The addition of Panarin gives the Rangers their most legitimate offensive forward since, well, Jaromir Jagr. The signing has a major impact on a team that already this offseason added first-round picks Kakko and Kravtsov up front, and Trouba and Adam Fox on defense. Gorton (and new team president John Davidson, who no doubt had some sway in bringing in Panarin) are not done yet.
Not done yet
If we trade Kreider to the Bruins, he will turn into a 35/45/80 guy. Finally his size and speed will have skill added to the mix. Anywhere but Boston, please.
https://twitter.com/NHLCanes/status/1145786850424119297
Were I the Breadman, I wouldn’t play for Sweet Lou for 15 mil per.
Marc beregivn looks like Vince McMahon.
How Get Huge????
NoNeck tried to put a leash on Ovi early on, but (wisely) gave up.
We’ve been agonizing over Panarin for weeks if not months, Now that he’s here, everybody clams up. Riddle me that.
I’m pooped.
Maybe that’s it?
Lee being dragged back into Brooklyn for 7 years, $7 million per.
Woof!
Like a cigarette after coitus.
Lee back to the Islanders $7×7
Vibin, tomk
Can’t go South these days with a name like Lee.

Back to the kitchen!
wow.. we couldn’t go 7.25×7?
Angels pitcher Tyler Skaggs has passed away at the age of 27. Horrible news. RIP
IF-THE can’t be happy with that news.
“He loves to score, he loves to win, and I think he’s going to love everything about playing for the #NYR.”
– #NYR President John Davidson on Artemi Panarin.
Pretty soon a team will have four guys making 15 million each and the remaining 20 will be divvied up by a score of scrubs.
Columbus musing – Did Dolan bring JD here to romance Panarin away from them?
‘He loves to score, he loves to win, he loves to assist, he loves to live and he lives to love.’
3CP – lol
3CP – Mom says you left your wet bathing suit hanging and dripping from her favorite tea kettle when you got home from swimming with your fancy friends.
Bboyle!
Come on home
(No this hasn’t happened yet. I’m just sitting in the lotus position willing it to
Manifestation)
Now, when we exhale and the, so anticipated coming of the One Hockey Savior, came into being, should we really expect that miracle of the feeding the multitude of Rangers fans, will be really delivered by this 5’11” , 168 lb. loaf of Bread. In other words, – would it be enough?
Smart move by lehner, the blackhawks and Lou/isles.
Negotiations sound like they soured Lou/lehner’s working friendship.
Lehner goes and showcases as a goalie duo in Chicago and if he fits in and plays well there a path to becoming Chicago long term goalie. Smart from Chicago for same reason.
And I get why Lou went with varlemov. Guys only 31 but has been around forever now
I have a lot to catch up on as I waswamped at work all day. From the looks of things Kreider is still a Ranger, Columbus fans are on suicide watch and Lou Lam has clearly gone senile…Question for you guys to start things off
Who is playing center? jk But for real- if Kreider is inevitably getting moved (I don’t want him to be) would it make sense to deal him to TO for Kadri ? Think about it- Dubas called on Kreider at the deadline supposedly, he’s still got a year left at a doable cap hit, the Rangers get their 2 C and know he’s not costing more than about what Kreider is currently making for the next couple of years and you’re getting some sandpaper back in the lineup now that you’re not going to be able to retain Kreider.
My biggest concern in the potential departure of Kreids is what it means for Zika. Panarin is an entirely different type of player all together (everyone repeats: Panarin is an entirely different type of player)
Kreider isn’t going to the Bruins. They have nothing to offer that we need at this point. READ: enough with stacking the roster at wing position. find a center.
I thought he went with Varlamov because they felt the team’s biggest hole to fill was on IR….
Johansson and Ferland still unsigned by the way.
ANNOUNCER ON RADIO: “Wild have signed Mats Zuccarello to a 5 year 30 million dollar contract”
CASUAL RANGERS FAN: “OMG they got him for nothing! Gorton dropped the ball!!”
So Rangers get Trouba then Devils take Hughes then Rangers take Kakko then Devils trade for PK. Then…Rangers sign Panarin and then Devils sign Simmonds…I think we win.
Honestly, things can change quickly and I never take what’s on paper as what we’ll see on the ice but I would say that after today the Rangers are the most improved team in the metro and should be better than the other two metro teams.
Zuccarello said in a conference call with Twin Cities media on Monday. “Working out wise, I’m stronger. The season I had, even though I broke my arm … it may have been the best season I’ve had.
Hobbits are delusional!
Zuccarello will be good just not for 5 years
Ferland would be interesting .. if he signs Kreider definitely gone
How about Kreider for Kyle Turris? Makes the centers Ziba, Turris, Howden and Lias. Chytil can stay on the wing. If Lias cannot handle it yet, sign Boyle.
Hearing from my sauces Rangers are definitely in the running for Panarin. I’ll keep you updated.
Kadri traded in a big trade with the Lanche.
KADRI to Colorado in a big deal
NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! :::heart break:::::
Might be the biggest hockey trade in a while. Kerfoot, Barrie + for Kadri and Rosen plus they swap picks in the deal. Guess it’s Chytil at 2C this year
Sakic = BEAST
I’ll tell you what, with what the goalie market shaped up to be and what I’ve seen teams do today to solve issues in goal I think we’re blessed to have Hank Shesty and Georgie in a log jam. holy schmoly.
So regarding the Aho offer sheet that wasn’t going to happen…..Bergevin wasn’t aggressive enough. Canes will match 5 years at around 8.5. My inkling was that had we lost out on Panarin, Gorton would offer sheet Aho for around 9.5-10. If you’re going to go for it then go for it.
Who’s left that needs a winger? Does Detroit make sense for Kreider ? Boston?
I’m with you James. I thought Colorado made out in that trade. But we are in the minority.
Canadians got cute on the way they structured the deal (ie $21m or so in the first 12 months due to bonuses), but even then i think the overall quantum was too low and a 9.5-10m/year ofer wouldn’t change that in my opinion.
Now maybe the owner is willing to trade Aho to the Habs because he doesn’t want to pay that much $ right away, but still not the best foot forward for the Habs if that’s their thought process.
We shall see but for the top RFAs still think the offer needs to be in the $13-15m/yr range for the other team to balk from a financial perspective
BDL don’t get me wrong Leafs needed a RHD and boy did they get one. But to me they still have defensive issues.
Sakic not only had a great draft (again) but within a week he just solidified the top 9 on a team that lacked secondary scoring.
Seems like the only GM making the deals he wants to make. Other than Gorton of course 🙂
Re: Kreider I look at it this way- which team has a center that we’d want? Anyone could use Kreider in their top six. Including nyr.
We may have questions at Pivot but the depth on the wings is pretty sick at it stands right now.
Kreider- Buchnevich
Panarin- Kakko
Lemieux—Kravtsov
Namestnikov- Strome/Fast
Pete Canes have money now. They’re willing to spend it but on their terms.
In this particular situation I’d think they’ll match no problem.
Nice structure on the offer but still not aggressive enough in my opinion.
agree James
Wholly crap, just saw the whole deal between avs and leaves.
Sakic got the better of dubas there by quite a bit!!!!
Panarin said “Don’t be mad” to BJs fans!
I love this guy already!
https://www.instagram.com/p/BzZGtn0I14w/?igshid=1f0odcqp15ggz
I still think rangers need to add a couple forwards.
You’ve got zpack, howden, strome as 3 nhl centres. Can use lias or chytil as another, but I’d like to see them add a Paquette type at centre.
On wing…they aren’t heavy enough as it sits now. Even a bit lighter with the moving of vesey.
Need a “heavy” free agent or a guy in a trade.
LOL
How about Ryan Dzingel.for center? What would be a cost for him?
don’t think another free agent signing of note is in the cards absent some major cap clearing moves. trades for cost controlled players should be the route now
The best part of the Panarin deal is that the Isles offered more money and he turned them down. They will always be the red headed step child in NY. Isles may have last laugh down the road. Panarin is excellent player but I think that contract may be a problem down the road when NYR are trying to contend for a cup and will need a player to get over the top.
Joe Sakic on Nazem Kadri: “Nazem is a proven goal scorer and a fierce competitor who plays in all situations. He is under contract for the next three seasons and will immediately fit right in as our second-line center and improve our scoring depth.” #Avs
^^^ exactly why I wanted him
Wick not only do I expect them to make more moves but I don’t think it’s a given that Kreider is traded.
They need a reliable center. And one that can bring a physical edge. Tanev would have been nice.
Wanted: Playable Grititude
I’d Pass on DZingel. Mainly because they need some grit in this lineups top 9.
-Trade Namestnikov
-Buyout Shatty
-Smith goes to Hartford
-New deal for Trouba
-New deal for Kreider
-Find a center that can play 2C/3C with some bite to his game..
Maybe we are witnessing the greatest NYR offseason ever?
Panarin -Kravtsov-Buch line? That could be interesting.
This is an indictment on the vision of the Knicks hierarchy
Political more than basketball. Like ego driven, I’m gonna pull all these strings and do this and that. And we’re gonna be pioneers bc our of front office makeup. Ego, and not basketball.
Hate to say it but I heard mills made it back up to his position bc he had such good relations with NBA talent. Man that guy just seems like a slick talker who thinks he’s got more mojo than he really has. This is going on 9 years of not having a proper basketball operations top down. Mills ain’t a basketball guy, he’s a mover and shaker kind of guy that decided the NBA was his meal-ticket.
Dolan needs to overpay the best executive to come in and revamp everything
If this is true
“It’s not New York anymore,’’ Oakley said. “It’s not like a smooth operation. Players don’t want to be around a lot of that stuff going on. They want to be relaxed, have fun.
“For fans New York is New York. For player, it’s a different ballgame. They don’t want to be around bad, toxic situations.”
If Smith goes to the minors, can they erase his entire cap hit? I was told that they’d only be able to erase $1.025M in that scenario.
Out all day hiking Mt. Rainier, digging wildflowers on Emerald Ridge (for those of you who observe) only to arrive home and find out the Rangers believe they’re the team that’s ready to pay Panarin more $ than any wing in the league. So-o-o Rangers of yesteryear, buying the shiniest penny they can find as he heads into the downside of his production. Oh, well, tear it down and buy too soon—comforted to know Rangers management knows ten times more about this than I do. Go, Panarin!
But hockey players LOVE toxicity.
James, it’d be great to be to extend kreider now but would be awfully tough to do so and lock up Trouba without clearing cap space and going cheap everywhere else. Those two could be a $12.5+m/yr cap hit this season and likely $15m/yr or more starting next season. Would they be able to new Buch and Lemuix even this season? Don’t see how you bring in any kind of 2nd line center of note if kreider stays and Tanev was not a 2nd line center and too rich for our blood now in $ and term (6yrs!)
who cares about the Knicks?! No interest in basketball but was great to see the Nets pull that off yesterday!
I know Oakley has his own axe to grind with Dolan. But maybe he’s on to something. I know every time I’ve ever caught a segment of a Knicks game, the team doesn’t look like a happy or invested bunch. A lot of stuff for the cameras but genuine authentic team vibe. Haven’t felt that from a Knicks teams since the 99 finals.
What do they expect?
I’d love for the Knicks to be good. For my buddy, for Knick fans, for the heritage of it. For playoff basketball.
But do I care nope. I could get somewhat intrigued and catch 15-20 games. But I don’t care.
I just share it in case any boneheads are also knick fans etc
Thank You Bread Man
Welcome to the family
the best thing about bread man signing here is it keeps us out of offer sheet game.
Anthony – you mentioned savings earlier on sending Smith and Beleskey down as about 6 million if I remember correctly – it would be a bit over 2 million the rest would count vs the cap.
James – as much as I’d love to jettison Shatty, his cap savings in second year is virtually nil in the buyout scenario.

The Knicks and Rangers are cursed so long as Dolan owns them. The only hope is for Dolan to sell or die.
Maybe someone could follow Dolan and lure him into a racist tirade so the other owners can force him to sell. That’s our only hope of him selling.
I wasn’t saying I want Dolan to die btw.

more pack signings
We nailed it lol
What a dream this has been.
First light through the clouds this year was the Hayes trade. Quickly we saw Lemieux was a PLAYER. Not to mention a first round pick that luckily became worth 20th overall with Pegs early exit.
JD hire was super exciting and satisfying
Draft lottery
Fox 🦊
Troubadour
Kaako
Now panerin.
I mean even without panerin this would’ve been a success. Anything else accomplished this summer is gravy. I am really hoping Kreider stays.
Names and Some bags of S’s can go to make room
Do any of you have experience with PRP hair regrowth?
Does anyone like gladiator movies?
Need to jettison Namestoolong and Staal to sign the Kreidsdale.
Still have Pepe Jr and Butch in RFA deals as well.
.
Avs deal – see what Kerfoot becomes as Barrie has only 1 more year on deal and Makar made him expendable.
So Jeff and JD have splashed the cash….that was the easy part. Now they have to make some moves and make some tough decisions. Seems to be a choice between 2 of 3 up front: Kreids, Butch, Names and someone is going to be left out at the back end presumably by trade and salary retention
Trade Buchnevich, walk away from TonyD. Sign Lemieux, bury Smith.
NEW POST
Thanks for the poll, Alex.
While I do agree that Ukrainian girls are some of the sexiest in the world, that poll is pretty dumb, overall… they list Armenian women in the top 10 because of the fakiest ugliest Kim Kardashian and list Russian girls at #33? Obvious bias against Russia. Then they mention way bellow average looking Mila Kunis as some sort of measuring stick? Did horny old American man put that list together? Bleh…
