Don’t the Rangers know they’re supposed to be losing? Silly Georgiev. Man, the Leafs are going to get crushed by the Bruins again.

Brooks in his column had an interesting idea about how to stop tanking. He suggested doing away with the draft, making all draft eligible players FAs. I feel like I’ve seen this suggestion before. I just can’t quite put my finger on where.
Silly Rangers, winning is for good teams. Not teams in their position looking for high end draft talent.

Draft eligibles becoming Free Agents will never happen because the NHLPA won’t let it happen. Can imagine some NHL veteran watching as an 18-year0old kid blows by him salary-wise? The NBA and NFL players made sure to pull back rookie salaries and would bet the NHL players would so the same.
Was there a golf ball in that clip? I missed it.
I think they should give every team an equal chance in the lottery regardless of how they finish.
Anthony,
You would still have the entry level contracts. Those rules would still apply. They would just be free to sign with any team.
Good morning, boneheads!
One of the better games I saw them play all year. They would still lose it ( by a good goal margin too) if it wasn’t for Georgiev.
So, this is the question. When is it time to say Georgiev is a legit NHL starter? How many more starts? I’ll tell you what, someone needs to ask Babcock. Something tells me he would prefer to have Georgiev instead of Andersson to play against the Bruins.
Gorton has a very important decision to make. Could be more important than the ping pong balls.
I’m out. The mountain looks inviting. Then off to Wickys. Tough life 😃
The decision should be to keep Boy George….and was Shampoo boy out of our hair. But of course we will lose Boy George or the soon to arrive Czar of all the Russias Shestyorkin in the draft for the needless superfluos Seattle franchise.
If we want more ping pong balls play Hank!
Forgot the h on wash in previous post. Duh!!!!
Rich
We wouldn’t lose either goalie to expansion
Henrik will be Ufa and Shesty wouldn’t have to be protected. So Georgie could be protected.
We’d just have to have a goalie to leave available for picking which we could accomplish via signing a vet goalie.
If go to all FAs, Teams that are in less desireable locations would never get top players unless they were tax free state.
Gotta have a draft to make sure each team can get their indentured servents. Though I guess players would go to where they have the best chance at cracking a lineup rather than joining an elite team.
I guess I would say best way may be to just have all non playoff teams have equal shot and draw out of hat which pick you have 1-15.
Then each playoff teams picks based on current rules for the playoff teams.
Then you don’t punish teams for doing well down the stretch trying to grow a culture. And you don’t have a team like Edmonton rewarded with a monopoly of number 1s and top 5s unless the circumstances of chance make it that way.
Had the boys over for bourbon and the game so couldn’t post last night. Excellent effort, even if my tv was at great risk from flying objects on every power play pass.
I think Papa said it and I agree, Georgie has passed ShampooBoy on the depth chart. Whether that translates to more games than HL is another question. Also would be folly to move Georgie (if at all) prior to evaluating the Russian kid under NHL games and pressure.
No doubt he is over priced but have to like the way Smith has been playing. Lean to keeping rather than eating the money on buyout and getting nothing back.
With the way Georgiev is playing, and Shestorkin possibly coming over, it makes you wonder if Hank should be the odd man out. I know the Rangers would never do it, but maybe Hank is the guy to buy out.
Every team that misses the playoffs should have the same chance in the lottery, and it should be conducted publicly to avoid rigged lotteries like Crosby and McDavid (s).
To rinse out the shampoo: 4.25/5.75/1.75/1.75
Not horrible Beezle.
And the others:
MS 2.9/3.7/1.2/1.2
KS 1.5/6.1/1.4/1.4
BS 1.0/3.1/1.1/1.1
SkjeL 1.6/1.8/1.6/0.6/0.6/5 x 0.8
Last one just for amusement
Oh man. I know everyone talks parity and competitive balance, but one look at the standings tell it all. The west is a mess. Colorado’s in at the moment but fighting off Arizona who has lost 4 straight and is 4-4-2 in the last 10 and Minnesota who is 3-5-2 in the last 10.
The sharks are solidly in 2nd even though they have lost 5 straight and the golden knights are still 5 pts behind the sharks even though the knights are 8-1-1 in the last 10. And the blues are comfortably in the 3rd seed in the central after a rangers-lite declaration that everyone and anyone was available around thxgiving time.
So you got the Jets and preds who are legit and one is gonna take out the other, and than you got Calgary who is keep on keeping this season, but you never know come playoff time and a matchup against Colorado or Dallas seems a toss up to me from the start. The west is just a mess
That second year of Shattenkirk is a killer. Smith looks like it could be very worthwhile. Staal not bad either.
of that group you buy out staal this offseason as he is actually going to be blocking kids next year and they clearly won’t sit him as an extra D. smith you just stash in minors or leave as spare D or spare 4th liner (he shouldn’t be there regularly unless they truly have no one else to play).
Igor needs to be playing nearly every game next season which means AHL unless it’s one more year in KHL.
better draft solution would have just been to not let any team pick top 3 more than 2 years in a row. yes a couple teams each year would embarrass themselves by tanking at end, but a) that is fine in my opinion as those teams likely will need a franchise player and b) it will never be that rampant given most owners and GMs care about filling seats and culture/reputation.
Then in the east, it’s the same deal. The two best teams will most likely face in the 2nd round and one of them will be gone. Difference between the east and west is that in the east, the other bracket has Washington and Pitt.
Crazy that unless they can pass Montreal CBJ won’t even get in. Credit to Carolina. They had a strong month, their last 10 has been >.500 for like 5 weeks now.
I look at the last 10 games stat a lot during the season, gives me a gauge of things
I saw that 2nd year buyout number. That is a killer. Considering he only has two seasons left on his deal, you’d basically be buying him out for the savings next year and maybe more importantly to the team, the lineup spot.
You know: if you got to pay him equal to his salary the second year of a buyout, which would normally be the final year of his deal. Your basically tacking on extra years of buyout money basically for the exchange of freed money next year and a roster spot going forward.
Only reason to buy him out is if you can’t trade him and you badly want the spot in the lineup to go to someone else
Top 3 teams in GA
1. Isles 184
2. Stars 186
3. Bruins 189
Another important stat come playoff time
as of now Shatty isn’t blocking anyone and that’s not likely to change unless there is a big trade or big ufa signing, which will likely is post buyout window.
Bad sign
stars are the worst in the league at goals scored. 188
So even though they have given up the fewest goals, they have barely scored more than given up.
Where as the bruins have scored 233 and given up 189 for a +44 differential and the bolts have scored 301! and given up 202 for a +99 differential.
Isles alil better at 210 GF and 184 for a +26
Canadiens and Carolina tonight. Wonder who Columbus wants to win.
I think they want Carolina to win tonight and run with the one wild card and than beat Montreal in my head to head and than have Montreal lose out to their remaining schedule (Jets, bolts, caps, leafs)
Plus it would be sweet for Carolina and Columbus to get in and Montreal to miss out
Bolts and CBJ destined for a 1st round matchup. That would be intense
Bruins also just got back ‘still’ leading goal scorer Pastrnak after he missed 16 games. R1, #25 pick…
.
Bruins are going to be a handful. Defensive depth is their achilles heel.
Shesty Morgan is a question mark; Alexander the Great is becoming a known commodity, shampoo Boy is circling the drain…
Girls decided to stop for ice cream.
If anyone has time, please, along with their buyout cap hits, list the numbers this team saves due to their buyouts.
If you analyze the numbers, and take into account what position each of them plays, buying out Staal makes most sense. Smith may have bought his button to stay because of his versatility. Quinn has used him very successfully on the wing and having him play D on PK and when they’re down to 5.
Pete
There is not a franchise player In the lottery (top 3) of every draft…not even at the top of every other draft.
Some drafts are the Patrick/hischier draft.
Again, respectfully, but you make it sound like there is a Crosby in the lottery of every draft. There just isn’t.
The lottery is not that important most years, drafting well WHEN you pick is.
For example, point should have been a lottery pick in his draft year (hindsight obviously) and look where he was picked.
Lundqvist is another example…I can go on and on and on.
Ping pong balls are not that important, drafting well is.
never said there is a franchise player in every draft, but there usually are at least a couple of good to very good players at the top of each draft that would improve a bad teams roster.
And your post then seems to be an argument for why there should be no need to have changed the draft rules in the first place and also no reason to prevent teams from tanking every year if that’s what they want to do.
Over last few years I’ve seen quite a few posts wanting to trade for Trouba.
I’d like to draft my own Trouba.
Pete
I clearly stated earlier in this thread my thoughts on the change to the draft process.
Please try and keep up.
Premature to buy out Hank before they know if Igor is the real deal. It’s still not clear he will be in NA next season. If they buy him out next year his cap hit in ’20-’21 is $5.5 million. You could pay Boy George and Igor with his cap savings ($3 million) and undo the logjam between the pipes- If Igor comes over and is the real deal. And they would owe Hank $1.5 million the next year and then he is off the books. A deadline deal the next year would be cheaper, but, is there a taker even with salary retention and would he waive his NMC? There is little incentive for him to do that. Like Girardi he can wait to June, take his money and then decide if and where he wants to play. A shot at the Cup would have to be his goal. Otherwise why continue?
saw your idea and strongly disagree. all good tho, just opinions either way!
If they’re serious about tanking they should really stop playing Georgiev and ride Hank the rest of the way.
BDL – Sorry about the delayed response to your 11:20am post – had to attend to family business. NHLPA would still be against because some 18-year-old would have the same rights as an UFA while a whole lot of players with NHL experience would still be considered RFAs.
James
I totally agree, did you read my 11:30 am post?
Gorton surely wasn’t ready to say they were set at center! And for a guy who said twice they will have a top 10 pick he might want to tell Georgie to go easy out there as a couple more wins and we could be outside of the top 10 fast given how bunched everyone is right now in the standings (10-8 tied with 74, then 7 has 72 and 6 and 5 tied with 71).
Classic on lakers one shining moment
Good video Alex, thanks.
One thing that does concern me however, doesn’t Gordy look a bit like a eugenics experiment gone wrong?

Updates from #NYR Coach Quinn:
-Kreider remains day-to-day and will be out vs. PIT tomorrow
-Staal (lower-body injury) questionable for tomorrow
I guess the Rangers must have run out of WD-40 to keep oiling up Staal’s lower-body joints. Come to think of it, I could use a little extra squirts on my knees today 🙂

Do we really need a new post with less than 75 comments?
I can’t speak for everybody, but for me it’s hard to be enthused about watching them right now. I like to watch Kreider play. He’s not playing. And now with 10 games left in the season I’m supposed to care that Chytil has finally been moved to center, and Andersson is getting a little more ice time? It’s too late. None of it matters now.
‘Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.’

Thought Lias looked better last game as did Don Cheadle; wish Lindgren and Selma were playing as well. Lemieux is fun to watch and still like seeing Boy George ‘tumble for ya’.

Well, I guess it doesn’t matter anymore…’

Boy George > Hank. And nearly as pretty.
Definitely not as self-absorbed..

Hank and Eli Manning. Still here after all these years and not going away anytime soon…
Very similar E3.
Eli has the rings though. And I think they both can still do the job, if the team around them is good enough. The days of either one of them being they guy are over.
Dyslexic war veteran to Hank: ‘You the Nam.’
Hi, guys. Tell Carp I am not gone.

can’t say gorton inspires a ton of confidence when he speaks!
hopefully Igor still makes it over here this offseason, but not that surprising if not.
Eli sealed the deal twice. Hank….
Lmao re Igor
Bdl
I’m still enjoying the games, but I don’t like a lot of the player selections for the roster.
I’d rather see guys like lindgren, Fontaine, and gettinger…guys that may actually figure into the mid and long term future with the organization at the nhl level instead of AHL lifers like gilmour, Nieves, and Lettieri.
How come translators cant speak English?
So as there was reason to suspect Igor is not coming over to play in Hartford. If so Boy George and Hank share the load next season. They are never going to guarantee him a spot on the big club. A one way contract is the best he could hope for and Sather has balked at that in the past. It could all be posturing for negotiations. Him staying in the KHL for another year is not the worst thing that can happen from a Ranger perspective. No need to juggle three goalies and Boy George gets a chance to prove he can be a #1. Igor may be his backup by the time he arrives.
Flames vs kings tonight…I wonder how many times punk doughty tries to hit tkachuk with his purse as he skates away from him.
CCCP – I saw that story, but then quickly saw this one. In response to a follower, Eronko confirmed that the goal is to play in the NHL. I also think he had written something that the Rangers wouldn’t be able to talk to him until his KHL contract expires (although I am sure, wink-wink, contact has been made with him and Kravtsov and Rykov).

Igor Shestyorkin doesn’t have any talks with SKA at the moment. And the report that comes out of Russia is not correct. The goal is still the same.
I understand the argument re: Eli and the Rings but I’d counter that Whitey Ford has rings too but I’d prefer to not see him in the Yankee rotation. A strong breeze is enough to sack Eli these days…,, and both he and Hank should ride off together..,,
Doubt E is a Pu$$y….tougher than Cheadle but that’s it…..even Haze could kick doubt E’s azz
E3 said sack
‘The New York Sack Exchange – one of the classic epithets in all of sports.
Thanks, Anthony. I hope he comes here during the off season. Time for Hank to sail away into the deep of the Baltic sea.
I am, and have always been, concerned that he is never coming over.
Sack is a funny word.
Georgie just might be the real deal. Hank is a reliable #2.
Believe it or not, today DQ is happy he isn’t coaching B.U. The Terriers had their three best players (goalie Jake Oettinger, forward Joel Farabee and d-man Dante Fabbro) sign pro deals. I was kind of hoping that Fabbro would return for his senior year next season and then sign with the Rangers in August 2020 as an UFA.
Jake Elmer rookie year 37-43-80!!!!
Good afternoon, boneheads!
Catching up.
The guy who wrote this article about Shestyorkin potentially signing with KHL because the Rangers are only willing to offer two-way ( lol @ bilateral!) contract either has no clue about CBA, making the entire story up, or both. There is no such a thing as not willing to give him one way deal, or much of negotiations all together. Shestyorkin and his agent must’ve known it for years. He isn’t the first KHLer coming to NY. His contract can’t be a one way contract no matter what he or Gorton want. The CBA doesn’t allow it.
This is what his contract will be this summer, considering his signing age of 23:
A two year, two-way entry level deal, NHL salary of $925K ( including $92.5K signing bonus), AHL salary $70K. He keeps his bonus regardless where he plays. Plus a bunch of performance bonuses that are pretty much impossible to attain.
There goes ILB with his rational outlooks again.😃
KHL salary!?!. Was this just a typo or does ilb’s secret network of Russian spies know something that we don’t!?
Who was the Czech D who wound up in Nashville as part of the Mike Dunham deal because Slats wouldn’t give him a one way contract? I assume the CBA has changed since then.
Zidlicky
Ha! Thanks, Doodie. Fixed.
ORF, the CBA has changed twice since.
For the record, the current CBA is by far most restrictive as far as ELCs go.
They should eliminate the draft and ELCs. Every team is free to sign every player to whatever contract they see fit.
CCCP, I just commented on that article in Russian. Surprisingly, after sitting in moderation for a bit, it went through. Even though I hinted that the author is a bit amateurish.
Ok, now I’m out.
My concern with Shestorkin coming over has always been two-fold:
1. He gets more money staying in Russia.
2. The next lockout is coming and it’s not a great way to keep your young Russian player in the NHL.
I have a hunch there will be no lockout this time
Maybe it’s just wishful thinking
bettman doesn’t want to go out on that note
