Good morning, boneheads!
Outplayed, out-skilled, out-shot. And won the game. How’s that possible? Because they weren’t outworked, and because they got a superb goaltending. My gosh, Georgiev’s performance was out of this world. Happy Birthday, Sasha! Gorton may have another potentially important trade chip. Most likely to be used in June, and not in 2 weeks. How many of these goaltenders that become trade chips has this organization produced lately? One common denominator- Benoit Allaire.
As far as their other trade chips go. They did very well too. Zuccarello has been a spark plug for this first line that very few teams have an answer for. Hayes has shown his puck handling skills and his ability to control the flow when he is on the ice. McQuaid is a steady stay home guy that Toronto didn’t have until they traded for Muzzin ( first rounder and 2 prospects, no less ). As much as it may be tempting to keep them, Gorton needs to stay the course. One of many reasons is what we saw last night. The difference in talent level is striking. There is no way NY has any chance in going through Torontos of the league in 7 games.
One more thing that I believe contributed to last night’s win and Georgiev’s performance. I think their defensive structure was good. D-men cleared the crease and boxed people out so that Goergiev could see the shots. Forwards backchecked and gave their D good targets for outlet passes to clear.
I liked how Quinn handled DeAngelo last night. After his brain cramp that resulted in Kapanen’s goal, DeAngelo was back on the ice next shift. “Go play through it, kid”. But I think it did affect him, as he had a difficult night and ended up with lowest TOI among the D-men.

Kreider was a dominant force last night. He’s been like that for most of the season. He deserves more credit than he’s been getting.
I’m angry that they won. Idiots.
Trust the process
James,
I start out being ok if they lose, then the Leaves do something that makes me mad, and want to kick their ass. I end up happy they won.
My repost from Carps review on the athletic: My sauces told me that after the game the team celebrated boy Georges bday by having cake. Apparently zucc jumped up and started passing out pieces of cake. But they were all wishful passes that ended up in the far corner of the room!! Kidding. Kidding. I’ve always have been a big zucc fan and although I know and realize trading him is the best option, deep down I’d be happy if they signed him for a few more years! 😉
Kreider drives this line, BDL. But all three players are important pieces. They just seem to click and supplement each other with their strengths.
Kreider does drive that line, and I agree, all 3 do their thing. Zucc made a pass last night that made me chuckle. It was the play where he got tripped. While sliding on the ice, he picked his head up to see who may be available to pass to, and then tried to make the pass.
Play Lundqvist if we want more ping pong balls!
Kreider may be the fastest and hardest player on the puck along the boards and in the corners in the league. I agree he is the force that drives the line, and yes he does not get enough credit!
In two weeks, or earlier, one third of that line will be gone. It’s a mistake to assume this magical chemistry will continue long term. It also a mistake to assume it will not. Line chemistry is a known fact in the history of this league. But the biggest mistake would to hold on to Zuccarello now. And Hayes. And anyone else they are considering trading. This team needs a major upgrade. With all these potential trade chips in the lineup last night, the Rangers were no match for Toronto.
Right on about line chemistry. Once the sell-off happens, they’re going to be tough to watch.
(The chemistry thing makes ’94 all the more impressive, imo.)
One common denominator on the goaltenders: None (other than Lundqvist, obviously) are Rangers’ draft picks. That includes three second rounders and a first (though, in fairness, Montoya was drafted before Allaire was hired). In other words, his ability to develop talent is better than his and the rest of the amateur scouting staff’s ability to spot it.
I’m a big believer that you never draft a goaltender high in the draft, and only in can’t miss situations do you draft a Dman early in the first round.
Do you think Allaire has a “seat at the table” when it comes to scouting goalies? I feel like he’s in a very different position than a head coach – Benoit Allaire basically has a job for life if he wants it. So I’d be interested in knowing if he has any input when it comes to scouting goalies. Even if they send him tape of the guys they’re interested in to gauge his opinion. Though I’d think it would come down more to practice habits and a willingness to be coached.
wonder if Allaire really wanted Swedish goalie they took in Round 2 last year
Thank you – why waste a 2nd Rounder on a position you are well stocked in; its like scouting doesn’t know how to run a draft with lots of
Picks and they start pulling it out of their arse.
Weed Wolf had a big check last night, seems to be playing a bit more physically away from the puck. PigOink better in his return, think he was credited with a save early in the game too.
Don’t understand the push to trade Georgie away. The Russkie kid has done nothing over here yet. Nothing says he can’t play a season (or part) in the AHL w hile Georgie continues as #2. Unless you expect a significant regression, his value should continue to go up. KHL != NHL
Unless the goalies you draft and develop bring extra trade value/assets ..could be the case with Georgiev anyway
It doesn’t have to be Georgiev you trade, it could be Shestorkin you trade. But having them both here next year would be poor asset management.
LeBrun has a “buyers and sellers” article on the athletic…on the buying teams and targets section, there was only one ranger mentioned to one team…zucc to Dallas.
When it came to seller section, Rangers were there of course and it was hayes and zucc, probably McQuaid and whoever else you want in the “right” deal.
My issue is did gorton wait too long with a now flooded market with better players potentially available than what the rangers have?
If you are trying to maximize your return, I think he might have.
If you are trying to just clear cap space, he’s ok.
And btw, LeBrun mention the rangers making a run at panarin and/or karlsson.
Convince Hank to wave his no trade clause and promise not to trade him. Seattle will not select a 37 + 8 million dollar goalie. I have a feeling about Boy George we need to keep him. The Minx has spoken!
Kreider is actually only 5’8″. Neck fully extended, he’s 6’3″.
all is good…just released from Bellevue…after the game last night I told several friends that we beat Toronto with 7D and 11 forwards and that Georgiev stopped 50+ shots..i then went to the bathroom and upon my return there were several gentleman waiting for me with sparkling white jackets…I was observed and evaluated and eventually released this morning…I was screaming all night in my holding room but met other Ranger fans as well…some where asking where was this Friday night? some were talking about the Neckless Geek out in Brooklyn and why didn’t we hire him..all in all..i was very happy to be in the company of some perfectly happy and sane Ranger fans…except the one that had a hot dog from the cafeteria that must have been there from the 1824 Yellow Fever Outbreak…
it’s good to be back…we did win last night didn’t we? just checkin…
Yes ff we did!
another factor why i may have ended up in Bellevue last night might have been that I mixed my IPA’s with my wife’s CBD while listening to ABC’s Poison Arrow and The Lexicon of Love from my 80’s playlist
Thank You Minx..it’s good to get confirmation….
..and I forgot no MSG….
What the hell is going on?
and God forgive me please ..but with Boy Georgiev flopping all around last night I couldn’t get this outta my head…
dont think you trade Georgiev unless you are sure Shestorkin is ready next year
BDL
you’re preaching to the choir on Kreider. Completely agree with you on him.
St Pete
Henrik’s contract will be over when Seattle expansion takes place.
General observation
Allaire is born in 1962. I wonder if he just “retires” when Henrik leaves.
I wasn’t concerned watching Miller slide hard into the boards. There was no apparent twisting of his knee to me it looked more like a Knee bruise.
Thanks Alex that obviously changes things.
St Pete
the other “good news” is the heavy hitters on defense all have their contracts end before expansion. Well except Brady.
But some of our young forwards will have to be protected. Which is another reason they don’t want to start the clock on any more this season (Kravtsov being primary example)
so Howden, Chytil and Andersson would have to be protected or available to Seattle
and Hajek would be the same as those forwards.
BobbyO,
Sometimes you have to be proactive, and not reactive.
BDL based on where they are as team, think waiting makes more sense to maximize value of their goaltenders
Hey guys,
I saw Hartford play yesterday against the Phantoms.
I just have to say, no one really stood out. They all played hard and had energy, but no players took over. Gilmore had a great shot for a goal and hit the post on another. Lias was involved all game but not in scoring chances. Sean Day looked lucky to have AHL playing time, he was so slow and had horrible puck control. Gettinger did nothing of note. Lindgren was on the ice for a few goals against. Holland has actually been scoring a bunch of goals and had another power play goal in the game.
This Holland kid looks like a real keeper. How old is he….
i linked a twitter highlights of Georgiev performance but i think it went to limbo.
Do you really want to hurt me? Do you really want to see me cry?

I think there’s a thin line between reactive and pulling the trigger prematurely. You can’t warrant putting all of your eggs in the Shestyorkin basket before he even comes to the US to play. Moving Halverson or Mazarek in a minor deal would suffice for now and Shestyorkin can play as the number 1 in Hartford while the other splits time with Hank until there’s a more definitive answer. I don’t know many teams – rebuild or not- that have won a trade by going “I think this guy we have is a star best to move him before he proves us right”
Shestorkin will not be coming here to play in the AHL.
So now the 23 year old rookie is going to dictate to management how it’s going to be and therefore they should trade Georgiev in preparation?
Consider this too, BDL. How many Cup winners had an elite goalie in net over the last 10 years? I’m not going to advocate trading Shestyorkin but what’s to say a scenario doesn’t develop where maybe a team is willing to give up the kind of player the Rangers so desperately need up front or on the blueline to get their hands on him?
I think you may be missing the point James. Come training camp next year, you are going to have Hank, George, and Shestorkin. Hanks not going anywhere, and whether you like it or not, Shestorkin is not going to the minors. That puts George in the minors. To me that is a very poor use of your assets.
James,
I have zero problem with the idea of trading Shestorkin.
Too many freaking goalers
Hubredeau supposedly available in Florida…wow
If Huberdeau can be had in a dump-like deal – go for it. That’s a first-line forward signed to a very friendly deal. Though I’d assume he’ll cost more than we’d like to give up .
Huber’s Doh for Smith – get we done!
Yes to Huberdeau. But Trocheck is the guy I covet on that roster.
Never happen Gorton cold never pull that off
BDL,I do see the point. I just don’t really agree with it. Hank is 37 years old. He has two years left on his deal. It’s time to cut back from his 60+ game work load next year and see what Georgiev does with a 1A role. Listen, I agree that if the deal is right you make it.
But basically what you’re telling me is that Shetyorkin will refuse to play even half a season in Hartford, Hank will refuse to step out of the way and so Gorton has to keep them happy and deal away a 23 year old who may have tremendous upside and a really low cap hit from a rebuilding/re-whatevering team. THAT’s bad asset management.
Is Huberdeau that much better than Kevin Hayes that you would give up assets to get him? As opposed to just signing the guy you already have?
James,
If the three of them are there next year, Georgiev will be in the minors. I know you don’t like it, but it’s what will happen. What do you suppose the value is of a minor league goalie? Between now and July is the time to make a move.
Good point, BDL. Huberdeau’s a very similar player but with a 6.2 cap hit and is a natural LW. Hayes is going to command north of that and they have too many centers. Asset management.
I guess we’ll see re: Georgiev, BDL.
When can the Rangers get a Jaimie Benn type player that can take the bull by the horns?!
Hayes would be just money. Hubberdeau would be assets AND money. Plus you would be helping Florida clear space for the guy you really want, Panarin.
Jonathan Willis at the Athletic
“It’s a happy coincidence, either a random spike that has fortuitously pumped his value just as he approaches free agency or at best a by-product of being welded at the hip to the highly competent Brady Skjei. McQuaid’s shiny on-ice goal total should allow the Rangers to sell him for more than he’s worth at the deadline, and barring a post-deadline collapse, should earn him a few dollars more in free agency this summer than he otherwise would have receiv”
“Highly competent skjej” !!!!
Haha.
I believe the rangers think he has helped skjel , not the other way around.
bdl have you stopped for a moment to consider that
a) Huberdeau has scored 50-60 points in four different seasons- a feat which Hayes has yet to accomplish but will get paid to show he eventually can
B) has less of a cap hit than Hayes will once signed to a new deal
C) plays wing which is a major area of weakness as opposed to C which presently is log jammed
Cregg go look up Benn’s Stats and compare them to Zibanejad’s this year.
BDL I forgot to say- great point about space for Panarin if you deal with Florida.
@ Chris Peters
Latest from Wisconsin on freshman D K’Andre Miller (NYR), after a hard crash into the boards Saturday, is that he is out this week, dealing with soreness. Due to be reevaluated later today. Sounds like it’s not as serious as it looked like it could be Saturday night.
James
I’m not talking about stats!
And I have no problem with Mika. Never have.
Two totally different animals. Sheesh
Benn affects the games and leads his team in a completely different way while scoring the stats.
Can kick the crap out of our toughest player (formerly McLeod) and score like out 1C
Cregg
100% correct te benn
Re
actually 110% correct re: Benn. Gotcha now, Cregg
Any GM in their right mind that would want McQuaid’s services doesn’t give two squats about him scoring a goal.
Making a lot of assumptions James. A log jam at center? Where Ryan Strome, and Boo Nieves currently reside?
Willis sounds like a pimply high school sportswriter. “the highly-competent Skjei.” “…McQuaid’s shiny goal total…” What a goof.
BDL on what basis do you say that the Russian will not play at all in the minors? Just because he has been starting in KHL? His draft position (#118)? Games played this year (26)? That he has done well against non-NHL talent in non-NHL rinks?
Don’t think either James (or myself) was implying that Georgie is our future. But I wouldn’t trade him until I was certain the other guy was as billed under NHL type conditions. And Filthy will always need goalies, often three or four a season.
He’s no Gentle Benn so bear with him
(I’ll let myself out)
High Brrr Nation
Beezle,
Simple answer, MONEY!
Unless they really want to hurt us…Boy George needs to stay. Regarding Shampoo Boy….if possible needs to be washed right out of our hair. He was great but the two kids need to be here.
If Shestorkin does come over in the fall they will have to finesse the three goalie situation fore two years until Hank’s contract expires. Can they dress 3 goalies, 6D and 11 forwards? Nothing is set until he signs a contract to play in NA. They may have to give him as one way contract given what he can make by staying in Mother Russia. Doesn’t mean he can’t go to Hartford, but, he doesn’t take a pay cut to go there.
Sooo with Henk, Staal, Smith and Shatty, the D will have $24M In dead weight the next 2 years.
Great
it’s more than that SN – and then add in the G buyout
BDL, let’s get real. Zibanejad, Howden, Chytil, Andersson, Fontaine, Fogarty, Strome. How many RWs do we have in the organization? How many LW? Don’t say I’m making assumptions when all they have here and in the pipeline are centers. Just because you think they’re all better off on the wing doesn’t change reality.
Exactly, ORF. You don’t sacrafice 10 years of Georgiev for 2 more years of Hank. If a hockey trade that can help the organization comes a knockin’ you listen. But this nonsense about you HAVE to trade some of these guys is really getting stale.
Try dat Alex
+$3M on the total for $27M+ in unneeded cap space on the back end.
.
That’s not even factoring in Shea Butter
The idea is to make the team better in the future. You want to juggle 3 goalies for two seasons ( making the assumption that Hank is retiring?)? What if you can get prospect A, instead of prospect B if you include Georgiev? Sorry, no, Hank might retire in two years, can’t do it. It’s shortsighted thinking. You deal from strength. It seems as if young goaltending is a strength. And I guarantee you that Gorton and company are thinking about it, and listening.
Here is what is real James,
Currently on a team with Ryan Strome, and Boo Nieves at center, Filip Chytil is on the wing, and Lias Andersson is in Hartford. Before that, Howden was put on the 4th line so Nieves could center the 3rd line. That’s real. That was and is happening.
closer to 29 million next year SN if it makes you feel better, assuming no trades or add’l buyouts (excluding Brady)
It’s a real mess? And I’m not referring to the Dragon Slayer!
Mister, we could use a man like Herbert Hoover a-gain:
Ugotz!
Hey, kids, sorry I haven’t been around in a while. Kinda busy and some personal issues. Hope youse are all well and all behaving.
Keep up the great work at the Athletic carp. Hope the trade deadline is nice and busy to give you low hanging fruit to write about.
Best of luck with any other issues you allude to. “This too shall pass”
Whew. Almost thought (g. forbid) that Carp was ordered to stay the hell out of here. Happy to know that I’m just paranoid.
Malkin swinging stick a la Ted Green, gets a match penalty.
If you get a match penalty, do you get lit up?
Pittsburgh needs McQuaid. So does Toronto. So does Boston. Gorton should be able to get something for him.
Our one true Defenseman was a serendipitous accident and an afterthought – and we can’t get rid of him soon enough. Who’s running this circus?
He does not fit in with the Rangers. He is reliable back there.
He’s not rangers material.
He’s tough as nails and doesn’t take gruff from no one.
He doesn’t belong here
We need a Norwegian wing named Ulf Sorensen Andresen who gives us 50 goals and 80 assists so MSG can chant USA, USA, USA all night long.
Lone Wolf is underpaid relative to contribution and plays a mans game on the back end. No room for that kind of play here.
Kreider 4th in league in GAR, not sure how that is calculated but he is making $4.6M next year; look at the other names in top 10
I think it is calculated by Kreider’s agent. If they sign the Breadman for twice what he is making Gordo will get to see that chart a lot next year.
Good morning, boneheads!
Nice to see Carp stop by!
Guess what day it is. Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike, Mike!
Nope, it’s not hump day. It’s game day!
By the way, I am with BDL on Shestyorkin. He isn’t coming here to play in Hartford. At least not for long. And they can’t give him one-way contract or send him to Hartford, and pay him more than he would get in Russia. Look, he dominated the KHL, he can probably become the highest paid goalie in Russia if he signs there. The KHL doesn’t pay as much as the NHL does, not anymore. But it would still be much more than the Rangers can offer initially.
ILB, while I get all of that, I don’t think they’ll just show Georgiev the door with a Cam Talbot type deal at the draft.
They have two more years of Hank. Is it really proper asset management to give up on what could possible be 8-10 years of Georgiev to keep Hank happy for the next two?
These are difficult and complicated decisions and I’m glad I don’t have to make them. But I don’t think it’s as simple as “well he’s gotta go because Shestyorkin is coming”
I don’t want to bore with the CBA this morning, but let me explain this a bit.
Shestyorkin is 23, as per CBA he will have to be signed to a 2 (not 3 or 1 ) year entry level deal that:
-HAS TO BE 2 way contract
-Has to to have the NHL salary of no more than $925K ( including 10% signing bonus), and the AHL salary of no more than $70K
-There are two types of potential performance bonuses, but without going into details, these are almost impossible to get. For goalies especially.
So in essence, he isn’t coming here to make $70K. While there will be no guarantee, they can’t keep him in Hartford for long or he will go back to Russia. I’m sure his agent will make sure there is a clause in his contract.
…especially in a league where successful teams have more of a 1/1A tandem rather than an old school back up that can’t take the reigns when necessary. Or are we assuming Shestyorkin will play 70 games his rookie year in North America?
Having capable goaltenders is an asset. They have to use it. The decision has to be made as to which one they see as Hank’s heir apparent.
Like I said- complicated decisions.
But I’d like to think that if they have two potential number 1s who are both 23 then perhaps they’d look towards moving Hank.
If not, then they need to play Georgiev as much as possible and maybe even carry three goalies next year until there’s a chance for significant return.
No, he won’t play 70 games. But after spending a month or so in Hartford, he may be better off backing up Hank while practicing with Benny.
I’m not so sure I want another Hank. A Quick or a Crawford would be just fine by me.
Gorton should be checking what Georgiev’s trade value is now and move him if the return is right
I think entry draft in June, BobbyO. They will have a better sense about Shestyorkin’s intentions. But yes, if someone wants him now as a part of a better deal, sure he should trade him.
Told ya James. 😁
I’ve stuck around through it all.
If they trade Georgie. I’m done.
I’m pulling a Jeff Carter via a Georgie trade.
There is no reason not to wait until next deadline. (At least I can’t think of the reason)
🙂
And why doesn’t a 3 man goalie rotation work. Hank plays, one guy backups, the 3rd is playing In Hartford.
Rotate who that guy is. Rotate who is backing up the rangers bench and
Two weeks will be Georgie, while shesty plays in Hartford, then switch it up, bring shesty up and give him a few games and let him backup, while Georgie gets work in Hartford.
It’s juggle-able. Pretty easily too once you set the schedule
I’m not sold on Shestyorkin coming over unless he will be getting #1 min. Gorton has a suitcase full of decisions to make, here’s hoping he is up to the task. Of course if he isn’t he always has Slats to fall back on, and that’s a real nice security blanket to have right?
If it is all about money, why is the Russkie coming here at all? To get an ELC for two years at (apparently) well below what he could make in KHL? Outside a complete HL meltdown, he’s not getting more than 25 games. Now factor in the risk that he doesn’t do well backing up HL? His value tanks in both leagues and he is not getting a $5/6/7M payday two years from now.
I’m just not sold at all that KHL goalie, no matter how good they look, becomes a star over here. Too many examples of failures. Even right now, look at Koskinen. Granted, hard times in Edmonton but 906%. Yet he was pretty good in the KHL – 939% 1.7 gaa as a 25yr old on a team 6th in their conference! This is the same guy that two years before was run out of Bridgeport.
Outside of a stupdendous offer for Georgie, I would not want to move him until the 2020 deadline or summer break, assuming Shestyorkin works out as anticipated.
Not believing the player isn’t going to be good is not the point. We don’t know if Shestorkin will be any good, and we still don’t know Georgiev is going to be any good. The point is, they are both currently assets. If one ends up in Hartford, that asset depreciates. You strike while the asset is high. You don’t wait till someone fails, and then try to trade them. You are not going to win every trade, but you can’t let that scare you. You do what is best for the team/organization.
Bboyle needs a cowboy hat.
What league did Georgiev come from? Hank came from the SEL. He did ok.
Oooohh, James got told!!!!!
😉
I believe if giving the opportunity Boy George will transform into a man in net!
Given the opportunity geez!
Next year hank should be the third goalie. He’s still pretty but no longer capable in the nets.
Goalie trades don’t happen that often and the return isn’t usually that great. Cambot didn’t bring much. Raanta was integral to making the Stepan salary dump happen, but with Lias currently in Hartford and DeAngelo’s future questionable, I wouldn’t rush to deal Georgiev. Get Shestyorkin here, signed and established. Then consider trading Georgie. Also, Hank has been fairly durable, but considering how many regular and post-season games, Olympics, World Championships, World Cup games he’s played, I wouldn’t be shocked if he misses some time in the next two years.
Tom,
The thought that goalie returns in trades are not that great, is the best argument I’ve heard against dealing one of the two. I still think they should explore it, but I think your point is a good one.
Schneider return was the 9th pick in the draft, how did that work out? I still say keep Georgiev I have a feeling this kid is going to be the real deal.
BDL-it doesn’t make sense when goalies are so important. This trade comes to mind.
Ottawa traded (a young) Ben Bishop to Tampa for Corey Conacher and a 4th.
https://www.nhl.com/news/senators-trade-goalie-ben-bishop-to-lightning-for-centre-cory-conacher-and-a-pick/c-663788
As much as I like Georgie I don’t think he brings back a great return in a trade unless we think a 3rd or worse draft pick is a great return. I have a feeling Shest stays in Russia at least another year.
Boy George needs to stay. Somehow they need to move Shampoo boy.
ILBDL, we’ll have to agree to disagree. If 3 seasons from now we have a struggling /injured/ head case kind of goalie in Shestyorkin and Georgiev is out West somewhere killing it, I’d be pretty angry and Gorton would be at fault with his only excuse being “I had to!” ?? Doesn’t cut it for me. Not unless you’ve gotten something very good for him.
If Shestyorkin decides to say in Russia then I wouldn’t touch Georgiev. They should know what his decision is by the entry draft day though
And I wouldn’t trade him for third rounder either.
Also- As fans, if you’re thinking they have no choice but to do right by Hank and keep him in blue for two more years then you’re mistaking.
The future of this organization is more important. The idea of Shestyorkin-Georgiev as the 1/1A shouldn’t be a bad thing.
ILB, Re: third rounder – I know you wouldn’t. And let’s be real- we don’t know what the real market value will be in June. Cam Talbot carried this team the season before he was traded and it didn’t equate to nearly as much as some speculated.
What kind of value does Georgiev have right now?
Speaking of goaltending. After decades of swings and misses, the Flyers may have finally gotten one.
Wicky you’re getting an instigator and a third man in penalty 🙂
Tom I missed your post before basically saying the same thing.
Bobrovsky is another good example. Flyers traded him when he was a 23 year old back up for three draft picks and that was 7 seasons ago. They haven’t had a goalie work out since.
I’m telling you guys. If I’m gorts I’m calling Brian Boyle at 12:01am and telling him we want him back and we got a 3yr 8.25 million contract with a full NMC waiting to fax to him.
If I’m building the team and the culture. I am bringing him back.
You and Nashville meet me in Tampa for game 7. And make all that home moving easy and stay local
Brass needs to rinse out Shampoo Boy before his game goes completely down the drain
Not a good enough point according to some, SN.
I didn’t Geno played baseball in the Motherland
Ahh. It would have to be a two yr deal. Expansion draft.
Rumors that DQ is going 10F and 8D now that Pickles is coming back
Jpp Boyle is 34. I don’t know how much longer he intends to go here but I’d have no issue with him solidifying the 4C and a leadership position for a year. Unless he still thinks he’s a top six forward..
Time to fleece Boston Jeff. Pasta out 3 weeks
JamesG what other choice do they have with Hank and his NTC. Do you see them buying out the face of the franchise?
More like if it comes down to it, asking him to waive his NTC and deal him to a contender. Salary retention obviously would play in but I don’t think they should feel like that’s not an option
James,
You are paralyzed be fear of being wrong. You are not going to win every trade, but that does not mean you should be afraid to make trades. Maybe they trade Georgiev, and he becomes a star somewhere else, or maybe they trade Georgiev, and he busts, but the guy/pick they get back turns into a very good player.
A contender with cap space?
Paralyzed by fear of being wrong? Well…no. But I do fear them making hasty decisions and getting burnt the way I’ve watched this organization do most of my life.
It’s interesting BDL. You and I hope for the same things just different views on how it should get done.
Potato potAto and all that
There isn’t a team in the league with cap space and the need for a playoff proven goalie?
You do know there are 30 other teams besides the Rangers, right? Not just Tampa, Winnipeg and Toronto?
Just dont think he’s gonna waive his NTC …maybe its more of a possibility closer they get to end of contract/he wants a last shot at cup and is more affordable
No to Boyler please. Let’s stop beating a dead horse, he had his shot.
We can’t find someone for 3 mil, younger than 35 who can do what Boyler does? On the other hand, he fore-checks effectively, an unseen talent (for some strange reason) here.
@drosennhl
The Rangers have made a trade……..
………
………
AHL goalie Marek Mazanec to Vancouver for a 7th round pick in 2020.
We currently have 3 seventh round picks in 2020, so we’ve got that going for us. 🙂
You know why these Boston kids don’t want to play for the Bs.
It’s cuz the owner is a Brookline snob
Was just going to mention, TomK. They must have some inside knowledge on the 7 th round in 2020
The last interesting thing to happen in the Seventh Round was Rocky Marciano versus Archie Moore.
When Vesey plays tough, with confidence, he draws penalties and becomes a factor.
And the last remaining skater in our room who can do the NY Times crossword puzzle.
Archie Moore = AMoops.
Some notable 7th rounders-Henrik Lundqvist, Pekka Rinne, Justin Braun, Henrik Zetterberg, Anton Stralman, Ondrej Palat, Eric Haula, Scott Wilson, Jason Demers, Patrick Hornqvist, Ryan Dzingle
Sevens are wild Gorton sure knows how to make a big splash!
How did I know that some intellectual Bonehead would submit a list of half a dozen exceptions to the 50,000 washouts? Bravo.
Gorton’s of Gloucester. The Perfect Strome.
Lol. Coos called me intellectual. 🙂
I was expecting optimistic or delusional.

Pasteur was homogenized…but who really cares about his sexual preferences? His business.
On occasion our trusty truck acts funny. Very good vehicle anyhow.
The Rangers trading an AHL goalie that I said they’d probably trade yesterday has really helped me to start overcoming my paralysis brought on by fear. I can wiggle a toe.
If we’re trading the rest of our pending UFA’s in Hartford, Dustin Tokarski, Conor Brickley and Peter Holland will be next.
Come-on Jeff Gorton, we need more 7th rounders!

@NYP_Brooksie
1. Told no recent talks have taken place between Rangers and Kevin Hayes’ camp. Ergo, trade is anticipated; 2. Have to figure it won’t be too much longer before NYR pull Hayes, Zuccarello from lineup to protect against injury.
Too bad Chiarelli isn’t still GM he’s pribsbly give us a 1st rounder for Holland…
Sounds as if Ottawa’s not getting any of their big UFAs re-signed.
Stone, Duchene, Dzingel all allegedly on their way out. If I were a Sens fan I think I’d choke to death on my vomit.
Would Stone be worth the Rangers’ R1 + this year? If they truly want to bring in youngish big ticket guys worth their contracts Stone would be a quality candidate. He’s been a monster 5on5 this year. Instantly becomes the RW1 beside Zibanejad and Kreider. Thoughts?
Alex said pull
Tom K said come on jeff Gorton
James
Yes on stone.
He’s also one of the free agents you should overpay to get.
“Should”
Malkin story kinda intersting.
“It was dirty but I missed”
I hate philthy a lot and raffl punched him in back of head. But that stick cannot do that. Coulda enucleated an eye
I think raffle should get a game (just because) and Malkin gets like 5 games given his prior suspension for the hit on oshie
Wick I tend to agree. He’s everything Hayes isn’t. Heads straight to the net, uses his size to his advantage 50-60 points every year.
Plus he fills the void as a natural RW.
Re: Malkin, It’s crazy that the Mcsorley stick to Brashear’s Head was 19 years ago and they still haven’t found a way to prevent guys using sticks as weapons.
E3- 🙂
James-If I’m Stone, I’m waiting for July 1st so I can pick my destination and most likely the highest bidder. I wouldn’t trade for him. Sign him July 1.
definite no on trading our number 1 (likely a top 10 overall) for a pending ufa.
Should be getting more ping pong balls tonight can this cotton candy crew beating the Jets. I am not advocating a loss mind you!
I remember back in the day the Montreal gm would trade guys who were serviceable to teams out west to help their draft position. They had the number 1 pick from 1 of the Calif teams (kings or seals) and wanted that pick to be number 1 overall. So they traded 3rd line types to the other team to help facilitate that pick being number 1 overall.
Since we have TB’s number 1 if they win the cup, do we avoid trading guys to Tor or Bost that could interfere with that. Probably not but McQuaid on either team or Hayes in Bost might mess up the TB pick for us.

VAN working feverishly to get immigration paperwork in order for new goalie acquisition Marek Mazanec to play tomorrow night in ANA. Immigration procedures, I believe, require him to be processed in CAN so it will need to be a quick turnaround tomorrow to get him to ANA.
Henrik in net. Otherwise same lineup so 7 d again.
team has casino night tomorrow so they don’t go directly to Buffalo from the Peg.
still have issues with having to put in info with every post by the way.
Is it April Fools? Maniac Vancouver starting goalie? What?
Per Wicky: He’s also one of the free agents you should overpay to get.
Wicky I don’t think James has that kind of money to pull something like that off.
Beez, I don’t even have money for lunch. BDL shoved me against a locker earlier and took it.
Maybe Hayes and Roslovic will change locker rooms tonight? Could happen?
I was thinking the Malkin-Raffl thing was exactly the same as the Letang-Stalberg incident in the playoffs three years ago. Letang got ugotz.
James, why would we ever trade this year’s first for a pending ufa? Going to take north of $7m/yr for six years to sign Stone. Would rather overpay for Panarin’s skill and resign Kreider than overpay Stone
