Good morning, boneheads!
Three out of last four games. Poor effort and complete 180 from their structure that took DQ one month or so to transplant into their game. And the only game with decent effort? They lost it to Washington.
When the only players with some energy and effort are your 20 year old rookie and two AHLers, you’re in trouble. Unless DQ fixes it we will be talking about Jack Hughes by Christmas again.
While there is no argument that having five regulars out of the lineup is difficult to overcome even if you have depth, I do not think any of them would make much difference last night.

Post updated for Carp’s game review.
Injuries and effort are exclusive of each over. Last night, like the Flyers game were very poor efforts. Based on what we have seen from this group, it is disappointing. The one redeeming feature this season has been effort despite the gap in talent versus the top teams. Last night, they looked like an AV coached team again.
I’d like to see Andersson in more offensive role. Howden, by the way, has cooled off a bit. And not only offensively. Some giveaways, hope passes.
At least it wasn’t Zucc’s fault !
How can it be Zucc’s fault when it’s all because of Chytil?!?! : D
Good morning, ILB. was thinking the same re: Howden. I don’t think he’s a Quinn bin candidate just yet. But 25 games in he’s certainly looked more like a Rookie than he did after 10 games.
Lias is intriguing to me. I think if he was playing the middle with top 6 top wings beside him he’d be producing much more offense.
Right now this lineup is patch work. It’s ugly when you’ve got Smith playing wing. Makes you wonder what the deal is with Beleskey. Veteran presence. plays with some “Rat” to his game. Yet he’s in Hartford while they’re down 4 wings. Crazy how the NHL works sometimes. guy finishes the season in the 2015 calandar year with 22 goals and 3 seasons later he’s buried in the minors even while his team is decimated at the position he plays.
some real stinkers this year hard to tell which one was worst (Ottawa, Philly, Chi) ….all on the road though….you think they would keep it simpler and work harder on the road. Quinn gotta figure it out
TYM, agreed. What alarms me the most is not just the lack of effort but the fact that they almost default to the AV way on nights where things aren’t going their way. It’s like some of these guys need to unlearn the style of play.
I agree James, but sometimes the only way to unlearn bad habits is to wear a different sweater!
Very disappointing effort last night. I think we all expected plenty of losing this season, but not that kind of effort.
Last night, Lias Andersson was better than Filip Chytil, and it was not close. Curious to see if Quinn saw it that way, and rewards Andersson with a bigger role.
I figured it was a matter of time before you guys went after Howden.
I think it’s coming, BDL. Honestly, I don’t mind the losing if the effort is there. But last night was alarming. Hard to shake up a roster when the team is banged up but Quinn is going to have to improvise and find a way to do it without sitting guys.
Beleskey would make a lot of sense right now. My guess is it’s going to be Cole Schneider.
And to SNs point.
Chytil without Kreider is a very different player.
I like Quinn. I think he will have them back in the playoffs before he’s gone. But he has to learn to keep it simple when an injury hits last night should have been easy. Put Andersson in place of Namestnikov, leave the other two lines intact, and juggle the 4th line. What we got was the top 9 juggled.
Nobody is coming after Howden. What is going on is fully expected. Still a rookie, expected to level off. Patience with all of them.
Bdl
Exactly anybody without Kreider is a different player.
Bobby, don’t forget about Carolina
BDL not going after Howden at all. He’s actually the one guy I don’t really worry about at center. I just think he’s going through what rookies go through. Doesn’t mean I think he’s a problem.
Very good point about Quinn’s adjustments, BDL. I forget what it was that I noticed the other day that I said was the mark of a rookie coach but that’s a similar case. It’ll happen.
I need a break from Lias love.
Kids a Busto – 4th line forward at besto.
Howdy Doody is at the very best, a 3rd line Center
I like cheese doodles more than Chytil. Trade him in package for Nylander.
Tony D had his worst game as a Ranger last night. He needs to ride the pine
Mika is far from being a 1st line Center.
TRADE EVERYONE!!

Steinbrenner’s here, Zucc sucks, George is dead. Call me back.

on the road, this squad, particularly with depleted roster, will be challenged to win any game. The early West Coast swing will seem more and more like smoke than fire as the season progresses.
.
Just track goal differential, you can see this team is due for a drop. Very simplistic stat, but every season, the team that has higher goal differential finishes on top of the others. Weird how that works out at the end…
Gorton to Chiarelli: “if I give you my WHOLE team and a box of cuban cigars that Glen gave me for Christmas could I have McDavid?”
Chiarelli: “hmm”
Unlike the karlsson situation, I decided to not comment on nylander…. until today.
Dubas has been on a honeymoon since he’s got the job. Today that changes. If he doesn’t trade nylander today for the best package he can get from a team he will sign long term with, suddenly dubas is in karlsson/panarin territory. Nylanders value goes down tomorrow, as soon as he signs any deal that isn’t a long term one. Me thinks he over plays his hand and winds up keeping nylander for a 2 years and than ends up trading him for much less than the quantity/quality he would get today.
Zucc, vesey or buch, and skjei or shattenkirk at 50% off. Stack up for a run and get players cost controlled for 2-3 years. Figure out the rest of the details.
Nylander isn’t signing Long term with 27 teams. That makes dubas trading partners who will give him legitimate value for a long term nylander, a list of 3-4 teams and how many of those teams are in a position to make a deal. The rangers are. Gorts showed last year, he’ll help a contender stack up, he kinda overpaid last year to make sure he got the deal he wanted with the bolts. Something tells me he would pay a certain premium to land willie nylander. Don’t think for a second, willie hasn’t wanted to be a ranger the entire time. Rangers/msg we’re talking about willie 2 years before his draft class, Michael was trying to steer him to the rangers since he was a teen. Toronto knows this
How many teams trading for nukander today that he will sign long term with that can carry what his pro-rated cap hit will be. Something like9.5 million.
Dubas has been using the deadline as his only bargaining chip, if nylander is willing sit out the full year, he calls dubas bluff, dubas and Toronto going this year (one of their best windows) without nylander or the package of players he can get today, he should get fired. Toronto has been on the cap blowup clock since Tavares signed
Who stands to lose more in the long run from sitting out this year, willie or Toronto. Nylanders career will continue and he will make his money regardless if he sits out the year. Toronto has a golden window of 2 years, how damaging is going into This years playoffs under-gunned. How does all this look 5 years from now if Toronto never wins a cup. How long are these ruminating not trading nylander today?
I am the egg man. Koo koo is choo.
Koo koo ka choo
Zbad straight up for trouba
I sing that song all the time. I once had a professor hear me singing in a hallway and he came out into the hallway to tell me that made his day
Ha ha ha
He he he
Jets aren’t trading Trouba for anyone let alone Zbad. Trouba is RD1 with Buff out, probably their best 2 way Dman. They are thinking Cup, not tearing down their roster. With Myers off the Cap after this season, they have more than enough space for Trouba.
.
TRAID JAMES
Jets want a 2C right. That’s why they paid a premium for stastny and then tried to re-sign him. Well zbad is signed long term. And zbad would fit very very well into the jets line-up. Got a team that would allow zbad to play a big game.
Disagree here. Trouba isn’t signing long term. Chevy is one of the best gms in the business. He might have played the long game with trouba. But he’s not gonna let the asset leave for free. He will supplement his team using trouba, not ride him till UFA. Jets window is too long to go all in on troubas two playoffs. They aren’t in Toronto’s shoes
I am always optimistic, but I am expecting a pair of defeats over the weekend!
Want to know why?
Bc Chevy signed schediefele early to an amazing deal. He could have schefiele and zbad long term for the same amount of money Toronto will pay Tavares and Matthews individually. That’s the difference in the team makeup cap wise
SN,
It doesn’t matter if the jets have the space. Trouba might have bought into playing out the time in wjnnepeg bc of how good they have become. But he isn’t signing for the rest of his career in Winnipeg. Signing trouba long term isn’t an option for the jets.At least i don’t think it is
My guess is they play out the season and see where puck falls in the summer. Hard to imagine they are going to weaken their blueline during a Cup run for a center they don’t need, but you feel more than I.
I think in sports the wait until the summer thing never pans
It’s the teams that are proactive that win big
The Jets have Schiefele and Little in the middle signed for the next 5 years. Their top 6 is so stacked they have Laine played 2RW. Little also plays RW but blocked by their 2 studs so he has to just pass it to Laine and watch him rip twine.
But you feel it.
To be honest, SN
These were just late night driving rabbit holes I went down the last couple nights
They let Myers walk away and trade Perrault and use that money to lock up Laine long term and they are set up front for the next 4 to 5 seasons.
The backline will rely on yutes.
Trouba is art eligible again after this season.
So here was my masterplan.
Someone tell me if the cap would even work.
Zbad for Trouba
Zucc, Buch, and shattenkirk @50% for nylander.
Sign panarin
Sign karlsson 5 years at 10 mil
Resign Kreider
Resign Hayes
Make Chytil a permanent winger
Somebody have fun looking at the potential line-up 2 years from now with some of the recent picks stepping in to complete the roster
JPP, you’re hired!!!!
Trouba
Karlsson
Poink
In that order, down the right side. Let the Rangers abundance of left d bluec-chippers become the long term left side
Here’s my pitch to Hayes. We’ll give you another 500k a year if play hard, allow us to trade you to a contender for the haul and then resign In the summer. That’s worth an extra 500k a year on a Hayes deal
Good trading partners now are the Canes and Sabres; love to give Buff some vet presence (Zucc, haze, VC, Smith) for some top prospects in their system.
Sabres: Brendan Guhle (RD), Alexander Nylander (RW) – ‘little bro’
Dog’s breakfast
Hahaha man,
I listened to the game last night on the radio.
I could only imagine what that game must have looked like. There was a stretch of like 6 mins in the 3rd where they did no play-by-play, Kenny was just spitting stats from a 76’ game. And all I hear in the background is the puck snapping around off sticks and I’m thinking wtf is actually happening in the game.
And finally Dave goes “well folks we’d love to be talking about the game but…. Ha Ha Ha Ha” and I almost spit out my coffee
depending on his season, and it’s the health, not the production. But I’m still signing karlsson. I just get this feeling that guy wants to be a ranger and is gonna have a magical season for the rangers one year when they are ready to win. I think he’s always envisioned coming to ny and helping hank win a cup. Even if he isn’t karlsson of old. He’s magical and a game breaker. If he’s willing to take 5 years or less at 10 mill or less. I’m signing hom
If AV were still here last night: “I thought we had some really good looks.” Pulls at his underwear.
Saw an interesting clip of Q teaching at practice. He is loud, demonstrative, and demanding, but with a smile at the end. Everything that he emphatically insisted on made sense. He later said that the kids would finally get it, but that it’s very difficult to teach Vets new tricks. This guy has a voice and demeanor that would scare you if you didn’t know better.
And Staal, though frequently out of ideal position, is a totally different (compared to under AV) competitor (most of the time). Not always.
These scenarios just aren’t realistic trades. No offense to anyone.
And as far as the Jets go, They have plenty of talent down the middle. Enough that they wouldn’t give Stastny 6.5 million to stay after the playoff run. So why would they want a guy who makes 5.25 and isn’t half the two-way center that Stastny is?
Q needs to focus on neutral zone D. Not usually a part of the college coaching portfolio.
Get real and deal, James
Most Ranger forwards, especially the yutes, view the neutral zone as a place to hop on and off the bench.
Action all over the ice and SalmonJoe yak for extended periods about other teams and other players who are not playing in the Arena.
It ain’t like the old days, Coos. Miss Jim and the Big Whistle.
“Shoot the puck, Barry!”
I remember when wacko Dave Schultz would bang with his stick at the underside of the enclosure habitated by the Whistle, knowing that Chadwick was vilifying him mercilessly.
The Whistle said that as a Ref he’d be hollered at and criticized by a player for a call, and he would say to the player: “YOU make ten mistakes a night. I maybe make one and I never hear the end of it.”
Still can’t get over Dave M seriously criticizing Kreider for his answers to Dave’s interrogatory. I think THE was just playing with him.
Exactly, Papa. Reality is best. Nylander isn’t coming here for the mediocrity which are out vets.
BTW, did you guys see Karlsson’s hissy fit? Post game after the loss to TO a reporter asked a question about his return to Ottawa and he got in a tizzy and walked out.
All I know is that Kreider is the best player on the team not named Hank. He would land you Nylander but you’d be running in place and getting less physical in the process.
It’s easy to be villified when you’re a total villain, though. Those Flyers teams were friggin criminals.
It’s such a mindf*** living in Philly, seeing all those guys revered and beloved.
Larry Brooks
@NYP_Brooksie
Rangers skating with same group at practice in Montreal but are expected to recall forward for tomorrow night v Habs.
In his book, Schultz said that Bobby Clarke, whom he protected nightly, always asked Schultz out for beers, but once Schultz wasn’t so effective, that came to a screeching halt. He basically called Clarke a phony.
Alex maybe that’s the Beleskey update?
James, you got a problem with running in place?
Schultz “I know nothing”
No to Karlsson …great player but gotta stop signing older defenseman to long term -expensive contracts. Plus you have Pionk and Tony D to hopefully provide RH offense from the blueline going forward
James
could be
i think based on below Tony D would be out tomorrow
Colin Stephenson
@ColinASteph
Looks like 20-13-72 is back together. 26 is with 93 and 17. 16 is down with 50 and 21. 77 is with 25 and 38. Smith is partnered on defense with Skjei.
Tony D (my favorite Ranger) should be benched after his performance last night.
another reason I think Tony D is out tomorrow
and Shatty is with Claesson by the way
Colin Stephenson
@ColinASteph
Now, the power play. 93, 20, 21, 16 and 44 on the first unit.
22, 26, 72, 16 and 13 on the second.
Yes, Papa. I’m retired from running. Even if chased.
There’s a political joke in there somewhere but NO POLITICS!!
No Politik
No Polar Tics
I think part of the stastny issue with the jets not re-signing him was the upcoming contracts they have to deal with.
I also think he was asking for more from the jets due to Canadian tax vs nonexistent Vegas tax.
The player is love the rangers to trade for is comtois from the ducks.
Which is exactly why I doubt they’d take Zibanejad’s contract, Wick. Nor do I really think they’re looking to trade Trouba to be honest.
PS – Lettieri has been called up
it’s Lettieri
Vinny Letters is back to save the day.
No Beleskey Update?
Bobby – voice of reason ^^
Lettieri and Schneider are tweeners like Kris Newbury
Produce in AHL but not quite good enough to make a difference in the NHL
I’ve been dissapointed in Fogarty and Gettinger as well. Neither are trying to take the bull by the horns and get noticed like Pionk did last year and Beverly this year.
Traid all Boneheads been here for 10 years or more!
Speaking of Kris Newbury – has anybody been following the Dan Carcillo story? If not – essentially, he told the story of how, as a rookie in juniors, he was subject to some pretty brutal hazing (along with the other rookies). It really messed up a lot of kids.
Anyway – I took a look at the roster for that year. Kris Newbury was pretty much the only overager name I recognized.
That wouldn’t surprise me if newbury was involved
Carcillo turned out to be quite a storyline with head injuries and speaking out against the shield. Interesting and varied career too.
Biggest blemish was his assault on gabby when Girardi stood by
Georgie in net tomorrow
McQuaid about 2 weeks away
Girardi could throw his dukes too. Maybe he didn’t like Gabby?
That piece of Carcillo has genuinely impressed me…it’s difficult to know what drives a player but one has to suspect the abuse was a component to the persona he developed in the pros and the way we perceived him. I don’t envy the position he finds himself in with the concussion history. It must be gut wrenching and terrifying to complete a career and then be left to contemplate what effects are likely coming down the pike… I’m grateful he’s being proactive.
Can’t help being reminded of the Boogaard tragedy
Carcillo can’t make any more money beating on people, now he complains, demanding money. Sorry, that’s the way I see it.
Lettieri….yuck
Will the Rangers ever aquire an elite #1 center? That is the question!
2B or not 2B
Funny coos!
Wick, Is that Lettieri’s new name? Yuck ?
Lettieri names is pointless! See what I did there
If youse haven’t yet clicked on my Hadfield story, I’d very much appreciate youse doing so. … actually that goes for all my stories. LOL. Thank you for your kindness, in advance. 😬
I’m betting on some caving by both sides and Nylander signing with the Maple Leaves tomorrow. Deadline is 5 p.m.
I’m sure you’re right Carp.
Another suspension coming for Wilson? He can’t just pass on hitting a defenseless player. You can be physical workout being dirty.

@SWhyno
Brett Seney is down after hit from behind from Tom Wilson. Wilson given a match penalty for illegal check to head.
The Draitsl and Eichel signings created the Nylander situation by resetting the market for second contracts for very good, but, not “generational”players. Dumb moves by ownership -who will no doubt what the players to protect them from themselves in the next CBA.
The Eichel hit on MCdonaugh yesterday pretty dirty and egregious. Is he gonna get a suspension or is he an NHL darling?
I mean…what’s next for Wilson? He just got off of a double-digits suspension. And the NHL is still pissed the suspension got reduced.
He also had 7 goals in 9 games. It looks like he could actually play if he wanted to.
Craig – not so sure about the Eichel hit. It’s a weird one – it’s almost like he forgot he was along the boards and was surprised McD went down. Definitely egregious, but based on his reaction after, I can’t say it’s dirty. Wouldn’t be surprised either way if he got a fine or a game.
Bc everyone deserves music
https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Bzdv1-RIRVQ
Yeh Dave. I see what you’re saying on reaction but man, how about some respect for your fellow man in that danger zone along the boards and when you see numbers on the back of jersey. You can paralyze a guy like that!
Unfortunately I know the dangers all too much first hand what going into the boards head first can do. Luckily my spinal cord intact but I spent several months in a Halo for Capone fracture after that happened in a men’s league game a few years ago. Very close to never walking again so when I saw that hit I flinched and had some ptsd
Hate those plays
C spine (not Capone). iPhone!!!
Guy is such a dirtbag. Will probably not be penalized for illegal check to the head, but this is so damn late and dangerous and predatory. Just a filthy play. Puck is at the boards when Wilson assaults him.
Just thought about our friend Anthony in AZ, may he RIP. Refresh Refresh Refresh. Haha. He was the best.
Wilson definitely not the brightest …Buttman must be going nuts
Greg Wyshynski

@wyshynski
My take on the Tom Wilson hit: It was late, it was ugly, but it wasn’t predatory and I’d be surprised if it resulted in anything beyond the match penalty. #Capitals #NHL #NJDevils
WTF? “Wasn’t predatory?” Head shot from behind and the puck is long gone. The refs, the Dept. Of Player Safety, the Players Association and some writers apparently rush to protect the perp.
How can anyone say that was not predatory? It was deliberate, from behind with the puck nowhere near and contacted the head. Unreal. What a clown.
I hate to say this- it’s not going to be popular, but Wilson’s hit didn’t seem predatory to me, either. It looked like he was focused on the puck in the corner, he lifted his left skate to get around Seney, but Seney appeared to lean into him. I didn’t see Wilson even brace himself for a hit. He didn’t lift an arm, a shoulder, an elbow- nothing. It really looked to me, at least from the angle of the GIF that Alex posted, like incidental contact. I’m not saying Wilson isn’t a piece of carcillo, but I didn’t see anything wrong there. I will duck now.
Eddie- Imagine that hit is on Kreider or Chytil or Pionk. You’re telling me that’s not predatory? The guy is defenseless. Wilson comes up behind him when he doesn’t even have the puck. Wilson makes no effort to get out of the way or avoid him. Zero. I could be wrong, but I think he’s getting a hearing and getting suspended. They just shortened his previous suspension and he clearly doesn’t get it or doesn’t care. Time to suspend him again for multiple games.
I’ve only seen one view…I don’t think it was predatory either.
I think the doughty and kucherov hits in the playoffs were far more deliberate and “predatory (what a sensationalist word)” than the Wilson one tonight.
It was certainly penalty worthy.
Like you, Wick, that’s the only view I saw. Maybe if I see another view, I’ll change my mind.
And, Tom, it makes no difference to me if he did that to a Ranger or Cindy Crosby. I still don’t think it was deliberate. I honestly (perhaps incorrectly) think that Wilson was watching the puck and did not notice Seney until he bumped him. You’re correct in thinking he’ll probably be suspended again because he has a reputation and people are going to be outraged. The league will feel a lot of pressure to act.
That ex-NBA lawyer is probably screaming at Caps #43 right now like he’s a beaten up volleyball sittin on a log in front of a beach bonfire…grow some ballz and do something of substance little man
Absolutely Craig – and you definitely have more perspective on it than I do.
My point was that I didn’t think it was dirty in the way that true POS players look to injure. I don’t think the intent was there. What I do think is that Eichel had a brain fart and did something effing stupid. And he’s still ultimately responsible.
T-minus 8 hours to Nylander being a Ranger, and Smith+ R7 being Leafs!
Good morning Boneheads welcome to Saturday!
Doubt Scary Buttman is saying anything to Timid Tom who likes hitting guys who way 40 lbs less than him from behind. Picks his spots very carefully, usually much smaller players in a very vulnerable position. My guess is Scary is talking to the owner first and then the PA rep and then he will have his marching orders.
.
To my eye, the hit was very predatory for 3 reasons; it was from behind, it was after the puck was released and he was skating over 30 strides to get to the that spot and could have EASILY avoided the unnecessary contact. Lifting his skate is not an attempt to avoid a hit.
.
I am all for playing the heavy game but that gut needs to answer the bell or better yet, other teams start taking runs on Backstrom and Kuznetsov and let the Caps deal with it in their room.
Nylander between Kteider and Chytil would be fun to watch, but it is just a pipe dream!
For a player who has never been suspended, that play is a two game suspension.
Wilson’s side swipe hit on Seney was to me obviously on purpose. He had plenty of time to avoid the contact . The puck was already in the corner. I don’t disagree that he was headed for the puck, but he saw a perfect opportunity to fulfill his MO, Wilson is a Jack-wagon on skates. The Minx has spoken!
I see both sides of the argument, but agree it was intentional. Can’t remember if it was Carp who argued this a few months ago, but these guys know exactly what they are doing with their bodies when they’re out there. If Wilson pushed off with his left skate then sure, I’d buy the argument he was trying to avoid contact. But if he approaches squared for a hit and simply lifts the left skate off the ice he knows damn well he’s simply removing a support and putting more juice into the contact.
How is that not predatory. He does a skate by on a guy who’s back is to him and leans in and sticks his elbow out st just the right time. Predatory as they come
I don’t think it’s an intentional head shot though. The guy is just so heavy
These guys can stop or avoid on a dime. most especially when the play is right in front of you and yards away. The guy has a mental problem.
December 1st? How can it possibly be December 1st?
“Time keeps on slippin, slippin, slippin, into the future!”
I do think it was predatory, basically assault. Wilson saw a chance to make a cheap hit on an unsuspecting player, and to make it look like it was an accident. But it clearly was not an accident. He clearly made no attempt to avoid an illegal high very-late hit. As cheap as it gets. As dirty as it gets.
Went into a diner that had a sign outside that said, BREAKFAST SERVED ANYTIME so I ordered French Toast during the Renaissance.
Exactly Carp.
So true, Carp. Like a serial killer who can’t help himself.
I didn’t see any chicken wing, but like I said, I’ve only seen the one view.
A 30 stride charging call lol.
Love physical play, but this guy is too much to take.
Brooks says Shattenkirk yelled so eat someone on the bench. That’s why he was benched. Frustration with one of the young ins?
Something at someone.
He. yelled to eat someone?
Scherbak on waivers…another guy I might take a shot at
I think it was Chytil BDL
Kreider also had some veiled criticism of Cheadle when he spoke of being responsible in the Ozone and protecting the puck in an interview.
It’s got to be frustrating for the vets to see the prodigal son get special treatment. You can see it after Cheadle scores when Kreider, who may have the most exuberant goal cellys, is just meh.
Kreider is a handsome kid, but that haircut is from the chasms of Hades.
Chytil gets some tender treatment from Q and some of it may be resented.
Who’s knows what he said, but benching him for it kind of undercuts the Vets ability to lead.
I had the impression that Shatts was welcoming and liked by the young troops.
WICKY – Not the worst gamble – especially with all of the injuries at forward and the organization’s refusal to recall Belesky. What is interesting is that Scherbak was on IR with an injury. Not sure if the Habs waiving him means he is healthy enough to play.
DaveB in reference to your 9:38am post – It is a bit early in the morning to be drinking … unless you haven’t stopped from the night before. If that is the case, carry on! 🙂
Also saw that Wilson will NOT face disciplinary action, as per Chris Kuc of The Athletic. The league will not be “happy” until they have to deal with another Bill Masterton tragedy.
I have been reading Paul Stewart’s book and I am up to the chapter where he gets his tryout with the New York Rangers. I’d love to see him write a book about his legendary grandfather Bill Stewart Sr, who served as a Stanley Cup winning coach with the Black Hawks (that is how it was spelled back then), coach of the U.S. National Team in 1957, an NHL referee and a MLB umpire and later MLB scout!
Steward, as I recall, was a head-banger as a player and paradoxically called games tight as a Ref.
Stewart
Back to backs so Georgiev spares Hank from the House of Horrors.
Not sure if the win tonight, but I’m guessing the effort will be much much better.
. . .if they win tonight . . .
Saturday night in Montreal! Guessing there may be a few more penalties tonight…probably most called on Rangers. Poor Georgie
https://soundcloud.com/jaygeemsg/bleeding-blueshirts-ep-27
I like Pail Stewart a lot more since he retired from refereeing. He was “creative” with the rule book when he was reffing. He would shake his head at obvious penalties and then call Ricky tack stuff regardless of where the game was headed. I recall a playoff game in Denver against Vancouver that he made a screaming mess of. Ended up giving Colorado a totally bogus 5 on 3 late in the game which resulted in a tie and a Colorado win in OT. The Vancouver folks were justifiably livid.
Just saw Scherbak on waivers. Agreed Wicky and Anthony – I’d grab him in a second. Better option than Vinni Letters imho.
So just like all the refs now. Really unbelievable these guys are called professionals. There is an argument for the ‘eye in the sky’ as the fast moving nature of the game somehow not be followed by 4 guys in stripes.
Seems like some confuse effort and skill. The reality is the speed of the game requires a level of anticipation which is not solved by just ‘skating harder’ but being the right place at the right time. That requires skill and knowledge, not just effort. You can have someone skating like a banshee chasing the puck all game and that does not equate to a ‘great defense’.
When you add the DQ Line Shuffler and injuries into the mix you have a recipe for poor play, especially on the road.
Could you imagine if nylander was holding out from rangers and we had 2 1/2 hrs to solve it
Hate to see us chasing the puck all over on D like a bunch of nitwits. Staal leads the way.
@Wicky – any thoughts on chains? Need to get, someone else steering me to a vbar type.
Well I will say this about the Nylanders…………they have onions to take this down to the wire. His fellow NHLPA brothers must be enjoying this.
can’t believe this is going down to 5pm today. Just stunning
HA! Lundqvist chickens out again and lets Georgiev play against the Habs! I mean, of course, Hank wants to play against old rivalry Winnipeg Jets!
Hank is gonna feel like Goldberg tied to the net tomorrow against the jets!
I always felt that Nylander will sign with the toronto maple leafs. I would be really surprised if a team traded for him.
Update: Nylander traded for Cano and Syndergaard
A mighty Ducks reference out of the way back machine!
Toronto must not be backing off their asking price, whether it’s a package from another team via trade, or contractual for Nylander. Dubas has a pair.
6 yrs 6.9 per for nylander in tor
Beezle
I like the v bars. They are great for slow, not on highway type stuff.
Smart by Toronto. Bigger cap hit this season when they can afford it vs rest of contract.
Look at DQ. Eyes, hair, face structure and voice…this coach has some Hollywood qualities. Hope his coaching skills and IQ are on par at least, so, combination of both would propel him to a stardom and Rangers to the SC at last.
BREAKING, Nylander not getting traded for Skjel Zika and a 3rd : D
Does Straka have a kid?
Sure Gorton made an offer….still think Nylander will become available again after season
