It’s not a question to me of Anderson’s skill set (me likey), but rather the opinion of some that it was a pick related to some other “grand scheme” which imo it was not.
He was the most “nhl ready” to fill an nhl centre role ASAP not some mythical long term thing (in which case they would have taken a more elite talent developmental down the road approach with that pick).
These moves don’t stand alone, you couple it with shattenkirk and you see the pattern then.

I dont think we are finding a Crosby/Malkin any time soon. But we may have a backstrom type show up. Maybe Anderson could be a patrice bergeron. Maybe Chytil with his size can be an Anze Kopitar. Maybe Howden can be Toews-lite.

You know what would be a great sign of building or rebuilding, play Chytil at center in the top 9 and Buch at the wing in the top 6 for the next 10-15 games without sitting either in the third period if the game is close or they make a mistake (dogging it is a different story I get it). If that means Hayes has to go to the wing or Spooner has to go the 4th so be it. If at after that time Chytil hasn’t improved send him down to Hartford and if Buch still doesn’t get it then maybe Gorton needs to start looking for a change of scenery deal. Could say the same about getting deangleo the same amount of games or bringing up Hajek, even if it means sitting a Staal, etc.

Then Chytil should be in Hartford because playing 9 minutes a night with McLeod and Leterri makes no sense. And if Buch can’t be paired with an offensive minded center and given ample pp time, then what’s the path forward? It’s great Fast and Vesey are trying real hard and playing sound defensively, but those kind of players aren’t bringing us to the next level, it’s offensive talent we need to cultivate at every level.
