    More conspiracy:

Chytil is both slide elgible and something else regarding non accruable ELC or something that andersson is not. So maybe chytil getting another 9 game audition and if he’s overwhelmed you don’t see him up here for the rest of the year. Gives you another year of rights on him

No conspiracy. Howden played as well, if not outplayed Andersson by the end of the camp. Andersson was either going to play top 9 or play first line in Hartford.

    Ilb,
Iffy that Howden outplayed Andersson. I thinks it more they didn’t want Andersson getting 4th line minutes. I would not surprise me to see Howden in Hartford pretty quickly, and Fogarty/Nieves/Holland up and centering the 4th line. They are going to have to trade Hayes or Zibanejad to open up a spot. Or move one of the young centers to the wing.

They want to speed up Howdens’ development by playing him with McCloed

I’m just kidding calling it conspiracy. I think there are things here at play beyond andersson’s readiness that was taken into acct when reaching this decision. I’m sure it’s a weird feeling bejng 19 and looked at as the heart and soul future of a team, when your walking into a room of 20/30 year olds who have been in the room for awhile. Andersson is a serious player, let him start in Hartford and see what progresses. It’s big expectations, but I’m hoping for a poor mans Zetterberg or Beregon in andersson and that’s a top 2C. For him to grow into that. Playing 20 mins a game in Hartford will be a good tging

  18. jpp Avatar
    jpp

I think howden is gonna be fine at 4C. I see Sean Courtier.
I’m curious if chytil is ready for 3C in the NHL.

  19. ilb2001 Avatar
    ilb2001

Howden got better steadily by the end. I think Andersson has higher ceiling. Regardless, I don’t think Howden is a 4th line material either. I think they want to see him more playing against men. But I agree, he can end up in Hartford too at some point.

  20. ilb2001 Avatar
    ilb2001

BDL- do you see Chytil-Andersson-Howden as 1-2-3 centers in a few years? Quite possible. They can get some good return for Zibanejad and Hayes if that’s the case.

  21. Bdl Avatar
    Bdl

I think they are very similar players. When they are ready they will be 2/3 3/2.

  22. Bdl Avatar
    Bdl

    Ilb,
They better be! Otherwise this rebuild becomes a very long process. None of the 3 can miss. That would be a huge setback.

  23. ilb2001 Avatar
    ilb2001

I think they are. I think Howden will have more physical than Andersson.

  24. Bdl Avatar
    Bdl

They do need to trade at least one of Hayes and Zibanejad ( I’d trade Zibanejad), if not both.

  25. ilb2001 Avatar
    ilb2001

Not yet, BDL. Hayes goes first because of his contract.

  26. Bdl Avatar
    Bdl

Zibanejad is heading toward Stepan territory contact wise. A decision on him has to be made by summer.

  27. Bdl Avatar
    Bdl

Best thing that can happen for the Rangers is Zibanejad goes for 75/80 pts this year, then deal him in the summer.

  28. SN Avatar
    SN

Or keep him and not rely on 20 year olds to play top line mins in the middle

  29. ilb2001 Avatar
    ilb2001

Zibanejad has 4 years to go on his contract. No rush to trade him soon

  30. Beezle Avatar
    Beezle

BDL Mika is both cheaper and far faster than Step, who if he had not slowed down as much as he had would probably still be on the team. The optics at this point just are not the same.

  31. ilb2001 Avatar
    ilb2001

The Devils beat SC Bern in OT today. So there’s that

  32. jpp Avatar
    jpp

I’m fairly certain, BDL, is referencing the NMC/NTC that kicks in next summer.

Which is why stepan had a deadline.

  33. SN Avatar
    SN

A lot more will be known between now and June 1

  34. Bdl Avatar
    Bdl

Yes Jpp. That is what I’m referring to. A decision on him will have to be made by July. Trade him, or ride him till he’s 30.

  35. Bdl Avatar
    Bdl

I know this will not be a popular opinion here, but Stepan was, and still is a far superior player to Zibanejad. Speed or no speed. Hayes is better too.

  36. Bdl Avatar
    Bdl

The Stepan trade is the reason Hayes signed only a one year deal. Hayes is going to choose his next team, not the Rangers. And if that team is the Rangers, there will be a no trade clause.

  37. DaveB Avatar
    DaveB

I don’t really see a point about discussing anything about this team for another 2-3 years. We’ll see how he’s all going in 20-21, and most likely agree to reconvene in 24-25 once we have a larger sample size on the kids.

  38. cooscoos Avatar
    cooscoos

In that case, I lose interest.

  39. Pete Avatar
    Pete

Way too early to write off Lias, but still an underwhelming and disappointing showing and that is partly on Gorton and co as they presented him as nearly NHL ready. Best never to make such a statement about an 18/19 year old unless you are talking about a Crosby type pick. I wouldn’t rush Anderson up at all, let him spend at least a half season in Hartford, if not the entire season. And as others have noted, Howden may well be sent back there if Boo or someone else is slotted there so that Howden can get more minutes in the AHL

  40. St Pete Eli Avatar
    St Pete Eli

Hughes, Chytil, Andersson, Howden, nice! It’s possible!

  41. Whiskey India Charlie Kilo Yankee Avatar
    Whiskey India Charlie Kilo Yankee

Howden is not a bottom 6 forward he is a top 6.

If chytil can show he can play the walls in the nhl regular season consistently, it would not shock me to see Anderson on a wing (which could also be a reason he is in Hartford to start…wing time).

Stepan was traded due to his nmc and the team did not want to be stuck with his contract.

  42. Whiskey India Charlie Kilo Yankee Avatar
    Whiskey India Charlie Kilo Yankee

Boo is an AHL player, so stop with that nonsense. I like Fogarty better, but if the team wants the best player to play 4C (if they deem howden needs the demotion) out of the ones being bandied about, it’s holland (blech).

  43. cooscoos Avatar

  44. Whiskey India Charlie Kilo Yankee Avatar

Personally, I move one of the $4 million dollar men to centre and leave the other 3 non desirable amigos in Hartford…if they think howden needs time in Hartford and that he can’t play centre or wing at the nhl level.

  45. Whiskey India Charlie Kilo Yankee Avatar
    Whiskey India Charlie Kilo Yankee

I think a lot of lose for Hughes supporters are going to be thoroughly disappointed at the end of the regular season.

The rangers will be close to the playoffs (probably 9th or 10th) in the east.

Only hope is a crazy lottery move of forest gump luck proportions like the flyers had a couple seasons ago.

  46. Whiskey India Charlie Kilo Yankee Avatar
    Whiskey India Charlie Kilo Yankee

I think you have to move a minimum of 4 “vet” forwards by the deadline in order to accommodate youth and inbound free agents.

  47. SN Avatar
    SN

Better off keeping all the kids in Hoford to not lose another year of protection just to watch them Play on a bad team and probably slow their development.

  48. Pete Avatar
    Pete

Not saying Boo is a legit 4th line center but no reason he (or fogarty) couldn’t fill that role this season when the stakes are minimal. Same reason it makes no sense to play Holland at 4th line center, which is what AV would have advocated if he were still here.

  49. Whiskey India Charlie Kilo Yankee Avatar
    Whiskey India Charlie Kilo Yankee

I don’t want holland there, he’s just the best player of the three, that’s all I was saying.

Tell hank this season has minimal stakes, or hayes or guys that need to play well because their days with the rangers are numbered and they want to impress their future teams.

Can’t have it both ways, if you want to tank you have to play the youth that have a long careers ahead of them and zero expectations for their first full season and know where they will be next season.

I’m all for letting them to develop if the organization feels they need to, but expect a better than you want season from a team of “vets”

I think Howden is here for a 9 game audition, if he doesnt nail down the place then its next man up. Be that Boo, Foggy or Lias.

The same argument will be in place: “he’ll be better served getting big minutes in Hartford”

In fact i expect that’s a line we’re going to hear a lot this year between October and February

  59. Dan Tetrault Avatar
    Dan Tetrault

Somewhat agree simon but I think Quinn is willing to let the youngins play through their mistakes and learn from them. Whereas last year heetle played 15 total minutes in a span of two games at the start of the season only to be sent down.

  60. simonkimbrell Avatar
    simonkimbrell

No doubt there will be a longer leash this year without AV’s choke chain round their necks but i still think if they can find a way to stretch out those ELC’s so they don’t all mature at the same time then its also in the organisations interest.
No point in burning a year of ELC if its only 15-20 games if the kid isn’t showing something special. They could quite easily let Howden/Andersson fill out the top 6 in Hford and use Boo/Foggy as placeholder till the year after

  61. simonkimbrell Avatar
    simonkimbrell

Personally i’d rather see Hajek, Lindgren, Howden, Andersson all on the Broadway Ice alongside Chytil but that creates a cap issue in 3 years time – and the cap (and CBA in Staal’s case) are the main reasons there isn’t space for them on the roster this year.

  62. cregg7 Avatar

    Good morning, boneheads!
I don’t think they will worry about burning ELC if these kids are ready to play. Nothing wrong with letting them grow together. In 3 years they will still be 4 years removed from UFA, and not arbitration eligible. And to be precise, the only two candidates for ELC slide are Chytil and Andersson. Anyone else is already 20 years old or over.

  64. ilb2001 Avatar

  68. SN Avatar

Biggest question is what is the best process to develop very young talent in this day and age. The idea that they will play up and ‘learn the hard way’ is countered by decreasing confidence and development of bad habits. Add a rookie coach in the mix and a defense that will suck eggs and the recipe for success is not really present.
    .
Of all the pups in camp, Selma seemed the most ready with Heetle having most upside with the high end skill, Andersson having a more complete 2 way game and Howden the best positionally of the 3.
    .
Presuming your bottom 6 pivots are paired against opponent’s top lines, are Heetle and Howden ready to mark Barzal, Crosby, Backstrom, Malkin, Matthews, Bergeron, Stamkos, Kuznetsov, Bardov, etc etc.
Not from what I saw in camp or preseason.

bdl: yes, the problem was Step’s NTC. It was a problem because he had become slow, not because it was ntc. Zib had 27 goals in 72 last year and looks to be hitting his stride as a player now.

The only reason I see for dumping Zib would be more injuries, though in his defense both the busted leg and concussion are not ‘prone to injury’ types of injuries.

In 14 minutes of TOI a game, Vesey scored 17 goals. In 15 minute of TOI a game Buchnevich scored 14 goals. I’m betting with more ice Vesey is going to score more goals. Plus I think the game Vesey plays fits into what Quinn is looking for. I could see Buchnevich with more points, but Vesey will score more goals again.

I’m listening to that PR thing from last night.

Gorts is going into analytics and starts offering too much, and you hear Quinn cough, like too much info, and gorts shuts it down

Still my opinion that that comment was the beginning of the end for Torts.

If I was Lias, I’d toss my Hartford uni into the stands.
