While We Are Waiting for Hockey…

Published by

Good morning, boneheads!

I was looking for some relevant hockey news this morning and came across this story. I am aware most of us know what happened in 1992, but this one includes a few articles from local newspapers and also describes the aftermath of this trade.

Click here to read the story about Eric Lindros trade ( courtesy of NBC Sports ) that happened and didn’t happen.

    On the forwards,
Anderson, and Howden were easily the best two forwards. Smart hard working players. Chytil had an off night. Fought the puck all night. Gettinger seemed to put himself in the right places. He just could not finish. Ronning, and Lindqvist struggled to find room. Meskanen scored in the first ( quick release), but was a much better player in the second and third. Fontaine was also better in the second and third. Of the guys we don’t know ( at least I don’t), Stukar was pretty good. He had one and one, and was on the puck a good part of the night.
Dallas controlled the play for big chunks of the game. They were the bigger, heavier team. There top prospect, Heikennin, is a flat out stud.. I understand why Ottawa won’t do the Karlsson trade without him, and why Dallas won’t do it with him.

Great assessment. Couldn’t agree more about lingren.
Also think the chytil evaluation was spot on.

Howden and Anderson are the two forwards that I am most excited about…by quite a bit.

I really like Fontaine, he’s not at the level of howden or Anderson but I’d love to see him in the rangers bottom 6 in a season or two.

They seem to run out of gas about half way through the second. Taking dumb penalties didn’t help either. Let’s see if they can hold the lead better than they did last night.

I think Chytil wants to stay in ny so bad this year that he’s pressing to impress. Playing alongside and seeing howden’s Moxie may have him trying to do too much. He looks frustrated every time he comes off the ice

Lindgren is a buzzsaw. Definitely the kind of guy you want in a foxhole whiskey tango bravo. Needs to learn the flow and timing of games In terms of when to do his thing and when to play it straight. As a D- if your in the box a lot your gonna F up the flow of the rotations and gas guys and most importantly, not be able to be on the ice.

Gettinger is getting it? Kid is huge, and he gets around well, looks like a different player than the kid I saw like 3 or 4 years ago. If he plays with authority, he doesn’t have to play to hurt people, but if he plays hard and honest, i see alittle Bboyle

Hajek had a nice 1st. Like shot out of a cannon period. Keane too had a good 1st. I think he’s a player that the current nhl game favors. He’s def. a rover at this point, if he can focus on the honing the defensive side of breaking up plays and then turning it and grabbing the puck in the d zone and finding the path out of the zone into transition, he’d be able to shift the rink pretty well. All these guys need to get better and quicker at their decision making in different situations, just like QBs go through their reads. They need to develop the eye to quickly scan the ice, and through watching hockey/being coached, know the options, know the safe play. Play aggressive play poised, and as a dman carrying the puck, learn to wide eye things and scan the situation instantaneously and make the right play based on the options and your strengths as a player. A guy like Sean day, when he attempting to take the zone, when he’s gonna for it, he should know that even if I cant find a play to to make (pass/nifty deke) I can always shield the puck, attack the zone with a couple of powerful strides and softly dump it into the corner for one of my forwards while I then get back into position. These guys gotta learn how to combine their skills and talents with the seeing/knowing the high percentage plays and then compete like warriors

Bdl. I’m well aware of the age, most of minnesota’s Roster were pre97 birthdays, they were an older team. . It’s the RHS, skating, and competitiveness. And who knows if Meskanen makes the team. But mescaline: would ‘make’ the team 😉

  47. Bdl Avatar

There is room on the right side, unless I’m forgetting somebody. Zucc, Buchnevich, and Fast on the right side. The left is pretty crowded, so someone could certainly move to the right. Kreider, Vesey, Spooner, Namestnikov.

  48. Old Ranger Fan Avatar
    Old Ranger Fan

Good point about Mescaline’s age. Older players usually standout in this tournament as they used their experience and strength to separate themselves from their younger competitors. Few players in this tournament will be on NHL roster this year. That really is his goal. Let’s at least see how he does against guys his own age.

If mezcal makes the team not sure how we’d fit both Names and Spooner on a regular basis and even more so if Chytil and Anderson are here and Gorton/Quinn don’t switch Hayes to wing. Need to see how Camp goes to see if this even becomes an immediate issue but they didn’t leave themselves a ton of roster flexibility by signing both Names and Spooner to those deals
