Good morning, boneheads!
Go Time Post at 7:00 pm. Saying this is a big day for Gorton and Co, fans, and players, is an understatement.
Meantime, the latest biggest news is that the salary cap is set for $79.5M next season. That number includes a very modest cap escalator, and the number I saw was 1.2%. This number could be anywhere between 0%-5%, and has to be approved by both NHL and NHLPA. In real figures this means that the midpoint before escalator was $68.3M, and that the HRR for last season was over $4.5B.
By using a modest cap escalator the league was able to bring escrow below double digits first time during this CBA, and the number is projected to be at around 8% ( last year it was 11.5%, and reached as high as 16% at some point ). Generally players get only modest amount of that escrow back. What also contributed to this small number is that a good amount of front loaded contracts are winding down. The escrow is calculated based on salaries paid out, and not on cap hits.
The escrow, as well as the salary cap escalator, along with other HRR related issues, will become a major sticking point during the next CBA negotiations.
Another thing we learned yesterday is that the Rangers qualified all of their RFAs except Tambellini.

Orpik had a great postseason.
Wondering if they were also keeping Grubauer away from Isles because Trotz?
At least they isleanders didn’t get them with Trotz
Man Colorado is going to be something in a few years. Especially when they get Jack Hughes next year.
? Go Time thread?
Hayton is another future 3rd line center. can’t have too many of those it seems!
But it would be cool to have Hayton, Howden, Hajek and Heatle

Colorado going to be good now, very good if they get goalie sorted out…which they must think they just did.
except its Chytil!
New post boys
Actually I meant “for” the next few years. And they don’t even have to tank for Hughes – Ottawa will do it for them.
