My off season wish list Is to move Haze to wing, keep the Spoonand trade The Hobbit and Namestnikov. I’m not totally against signing Kovalchuk if it’s not more then 2 yrs. I would love to see Evander Kane as a blueshirt.
I hate to say this but I don’t think we get that #1 from the bolts next year. Looking at their D, outside of the top D pair, Hedman, Stralman they are a mess. They can score goal for sure, but things will tighten up in the playoffs, swallowed whistles etc. Here’s the kicker Vasilevskiy looks toasted. IMHO they get axed in the R#1
simonkimbrell
St Pete – that would be much better news for us with a pick in the 15-23 range instead of high 20’s or 30’s
Norm Merton
Good interview, nice perspective on this mediocre team’s best D-man this season.
Wicky
The best d man this season was Holden.
St Pete Eli
My point is their not winning the cup this year so we end up with a #2 in 2019 from the bolts.
Wicky
Sad part is, coming off of last seasons playoffs I really hoped the wedding cake topper dropper and skjeL would both excel this year…they were both bad and need to be jettisoned (if possible).
Just proves hope is not a plan.
Wicky
I hate the ning, love to see them lose in the first round.
Wicky
I fully expect to see Jordan staal on Broadway by the start of next season, he apparently has a brother who plays for the rangers 😉
CCCP
Coos is gonna love this.
Bdl
The best D man has been Pionk.
Wicky
Bdl
Since the trade deadline it’s been Pionk and o’gara imo.
Before the deadline it was Holden.
CCCP
I miss Holden 🙁
Wicky
I miss Girardi
St Pete Eli
Holden being the best D man before the deadline speaks volumes about the state of the Ranger D Ugotz!
Bdl
Since he came up 25 games ago, Pionk has been there best D man.
O’Gara? Meh.
Alex
Simon
only the semifinalists and finalists are slotted based on playoffs results. the other 12 playoff teams go by record regardless of whether they lost in 1st or 2nd round.
Holden was their best before he was traded, yes. For the season as a whole, it’s Staal.
Bdl
I remember Holden being good for about a two week stretch. Otherwise, nothing special.
Norm Merton
And I think we’re going a little nuts (me included) about Pionk, whom I think has been eye-catching and has made a ton of mistakes as you’d expect. Great prospect, but let’s not put him and his one goal against Buffalo on the all-star team just yet.
#NYR prospects Brett Howden (Moose Jaw) and Ty Ronning (Vancouver) will play Game 7 of their respective first round series in the WHL Playoffs tonight.

Norm, that’s a big problem with some fans’ perspective of young dmen on this team. It’s called the “is he or isn’t he the next Brian Leetch?” game. There’s elite and there’s trash. No in between for some guys which is a shame. Not that we have something special in every defensive prospect but there’s a Rumor from fans of other teams that there IS in fact a way to make a career out of being a very good top 6Dman while maybe not being an allstar every year.
James G
Ronning aka lollipop kid has had a great season. Would like to see him duplicate it next year wherever he plays.
James G
Holden shoulda coulda woulda been fine had he been utilized properly on a bluline with adequate depth and capabilities.
Him playing first pair or being out in the final couple mins of playoff games…woof.
Having him play beside Mcdonagh with Pionk in Hartford is something I will never understand. Not that it matters anymore.
Wicky
Most ranger fans….
Wow he can skate fast, he’s a keeper and first ballot hall of famer!
divisional winners are slotted after other playoff teams that lost in 1st 2 rounds

So I don’t get it. Is Lundqvist in or not for the rebuild? His comments about winning next season are confusing.

Norm Merton
If you had to pick, which of these two would you put in the Hall of Fame?
GP/G/A/Pts:
1327 240 828 1068
1303 391 647 1,038

I’m all in for the rebuild as long as it doesn’t actually involve losing or rebuilding
James G
For the love of Kreider, Wicky!!! Elaborate!
CCCP
But why we have to pick, Norm?
Rob
Norm, is one of them Canadian? Probably that one
Wicky
Geez, sorry guys. My damn job getting in the way of my real responsibility of keeping you guys informed.

More interesting Norm is if either or both of those Swedes get in, does the below player get in:
GP/G/A/P
1316/430/599/1,029
James G
Don’t default to excuses, Wick 😉
Wicky
Dreger (paraphrasing) was asked if he thought lundqvist would go the sedin route.
Paraphrasing again here…he responded by saying he would be curious if hank really was willing to stay around. Ge gets the sense from around the league that no one is convinced this is a full on 2 or 3 or 5 year rebuild, or just a quicker renovation and back into playoff mode next season.
Like many of us, it’s a wait and see what happens at the draft and free agency before determining what the plan actually is.
Also, mentioned it might be an option that hank wants to move on if it appears to be a 2 or 3 year rebuild and not right back to playoff contention next season. That would make sense if you go by the hank Interview the other day.
Wicky
Did either win a cup?
Norm Merton
It was a trick question, USSR. They’re both getting in. You really can’t have one without the other.
Pete
If they both get in, it can’t be on numbers alone as those are fringe hall of fame numbers at best and neither won a cup, but did win gold medal and had individual awards.
My player was a former Ranger who did win a cup and was way more skilled than either Sedin, but not sure he ever gets in
Norm Merton
Kovalev didn’t have a twin.

Wicky, I heard Scott Laughlin, Patrick O’Sullivan, and Colton Orr having the same convo about Hank and the “rebuild.” None of them see him as a particularly “patient” guy. Orr was not totally agreeing with O’Sullivan that Hank will move on next year at the deadline if they are not in contention, but he didn’t totally rule it out. POS thinks Hank will go and that a lot of teams would “line up for him” if NYR eats 2 million or so if salary. Not sure I agree with that but next year should be interesting for the King if the “process” outweighs the scoreboard.
I’m not re-adjusting my game, which has been stellar for season after season, to accommodate a bunch of children and incompetents in front of me slowly, slowly learning to play defense, and learning not at Playland, but at MSG with me in net.
Hockey Sittoo
Coos have to weigh that against just retiring like the Sedins. He’s always said he wants to be a Ranger for life so maybe he just walks away in a year (or even two) and/or takes a job with the organization. Most of his salary was frontloaded right?
Sittoo, – but baring injury or insult, I don’t see Hank hanging them up so long as he can still excel.
Beezle
Shampoo Boy still has a lot coming his way – 7.5, 7.0 and 5.5
Hockey Sittoo
Beezle I thought it was less than that. He’s not going to leave that much on the table – well I wouldn’t anyway. So yup maybe he tries to get a Cup somewhere else.
Hockey Sittoo
The other topic of conversation on Sirius NHL today was where does Erik Karlsson end up. There was more than 1 person who said the Rangers…
Hockey Sittoo
Oh one guy even posited Shattenkirk and Chytil for Karlsson. His cohost laughed out loud…
Pete
I’d definitely gauge the market for Hank this offseaon if I were Gorton. Hank has to know they won’t be that competitive the next few seasons, at best they will be like the teams he was on his first couple seasons.
—-
As far as an actual trade, only a few teams need a starting goalie and could afford or want to take on his contract even at a discount, so don’t think there is a huge universe of trade partners. Philly and the Isles come to mind immediately and while I’d trade him to either for the right return, not sure Dolan would.
Hockey Sittoo
O’Sullivan thinks there are at least a half dozen teams who would love Hank for a few years. He mentioned Carolina and even Florida given Luongo’s age. The bigger issue to him was that Henrik wouldn’t want to go there.
Unlikely Dolan would have the balls to allow a trade of Hank within the Division. He’d be anathema among the faithful, and he must know it. Only if Hank were to demand out, then Dolan and Gorton could get away with it.
