Last day before deadline

Good morning, boneheads!

A lot of speculations out there that NY and Boston are in serious talks about Nash. Some say the deal is all but done.

Here is Carp’s take on it.

Safe to say where there’s this kind of smoke there’s going to be an eventual fire. Seems like Boston is the ‘go-to’ for Gorton much like Arizona was for Sather when Maloney was still GM.
I’m wondering if DeBrusk is still the ask by Gorton. He was mentioned as the prospect in a potential Mcdonagh to Boston scenario that Gorton considered a bit of a deal breaker. If it’s Nash+ I would assume an R1 and DeBrusk would be the price.

Still curious where the Karlsson rumors were initially linked to the Rangers from yesterday. Haven’t heard a peep elsewhere about that one.

I suppose if you are going to take talent from somewhere, better the eastern conf. Yet, I still worry about getting the best value with Gorton on a friendly basis with Bos.

    Ilb,
Just want to say thank you for keeping this place going. It’s very unselfish thing to do.
    Thank You.

    James,
I doubt it’s DeBrusk. More likely a good prospect. Trading DeBrusk to get Nash, kind of defeats the purpose of what Boston is doing.

R1 + Lindgren would be a stellar return for a rental. Google the scouting report on Lindgren. Great skating lefty defenseman who focuses on defense first. Loads of snarl, toughness. Has some offensive upside

Me thinks we’re picking up salary and taking a contract back too.

Deal done. It’s a first, and Lingren. Other stuff included as well.

Being that Bruins fans were begging Sweeney not to part with even just an R1 straight up…we win.

Retaining 50% of Nash’s salary and taking on Spooner’s contract gets it done from a Cap perspective. Boston, however, may want to keep him for depth during playoffs. His contract expires after this year ( RFA), doubt the Rangers will keep him. Point is, Spooner should only be a part of a deal from Cap perspective, and not as a return.

As long as we’re not taking Beleskey in return that’s a good deal. Lindgren sounds like a good solid 2nd/3rd pair defenseman with size. 1st rounder will be in the high 20s though

the prospect rangers are getting in the nash trade is a defensemen named Ryan Lingren according to bob mckenzie.

I imagine we will retain salary and probable conditional pick based on re-signing and/or progress in play offs

    James,

That was just me sharing my feeling on karlsson. I don’t see how the rangers would not be calling on him. So I went down a little rabbit hole of trying to see the situation from above looking down, seeing the whole picture. Tinted of course with the bias that karlsson wants to be a ranger

I like the Bruin deal. Think the rangers should take back salary and get Frederic included. Sounds like an awesome 4th center at worst. 2/3c at best.

Lindgren, Frederic, belesky (no retention), 1st for Nash (50% retained)

I think that Even gives Boston some available cap space to bring in another guy on Monday. Get their guy and have some flexibility

I can live with Beleskey. We’re not spending money or contending through the length of the Belesley deal. And Beleskey can play a bit – just not worth the $$

Can’t make this up; another LD??
    .
Ryan Graves now 12th on LD depth chart in the org.
This kid couldn’t beat out O’Gara? They have a 19 yo playing so youth is not the issue.

We are about to see aren’t we

Also Gorton got this deal done early in the morning in advance of Jean Ratelle night. Another sign the guy is a sharp good dude

I’ve never seen Ratelle play other than I’m sure some highlights I’ve seen on MSG over the years. But I have a dinner plate with Ratelle painted on it, my best friends mother found it at a garage sale in like 1989 and knew I was a big ranger fan. So I know exactly what he looked like as a young man. So that’s my memory of Jean Ratelle. Haha on a dinner play. Hey you gotta be special to get on a dinner plate.

    Congratulations Jean Ratelle

Spooner. I can live with it. RFA at end of season. Honestly if you can flip him by tomorrow for an R2 – do it.

As far as salary retained…who cares on our end.

Stellar return. Buyers are PISSED at us right now 🙂

This deal is horrible. Late R1 and they take on two TRASH contracts AND eat half of Nash’s salary? WTH is this?
I guess they’re going to use Gilmour and Pionk as top 9 forwards next season

Don’t think the rangers are taking beleskey back, it appears the other player is spooner according to Mckenzie.

I don’t know if Spooner, or Beleskey are in the plans for next year, but it’s sure going to be nice to have some NHL players in the lineup for the rest of the season.

Another average LD prospect and two 4th liners who have a combined 9 goals in 53 games this year. If this was the best that Gorton could do he better hold onto Mac and extend him for whatever the price because there’s absolutely no alternative that leaves this team able to compete in the next 5 years if this trade is any indication of what our GM considers a good deal.

  35. DaveB Avatar
    DaveB

Spooner an RFA at the end of this season. He could be flipped today or tomorrow, could be non tendered. Or maybe he looks good for us and we get something. He’s not a crap contract at all, just a necessary salary dump by Boston for the short term.

And (I’m repeating myself, apologies) – we aren’t going to be contending or spending money in the next two seasons, so I can live with Beleskey as an overpaid 3rd or 4th liner.

I would’ve rather gotten someone like Senshyn or JFK, but Lindgren is a great prospect.

1st rounder in 2018, 7th rounder in 2019, Lindgren, Belesky and Spooner.

I saw this on twitter. Is his a good thing?

    “Done deal.

#NYR  acquire Ryan Spooner, Matt Beleskey, Ryan Lindgren (unsigned), Boston’s own 1st Round pick in 2018 and Boston’s own 7th Round pick in 2019. Rangers retain 50 percent of the Nash contract.”

#Bruins acquire Rick Nash. BOS retains 50 percent of the Beleskey contract

@jpp: I remember being a big Eddie fan as a young kid. I regret seeming to have erased many of the memory cells of those late 60s early 70s games. Plus lets be honest – even on the ‘big’ 26″ color tv, the picture quality was pretty dreadful for hockey, certainly compared to baseball and football. Was sharper on the 13″ b&w in my room but yeah 13″.

  39. simonkimbrell Avatar

Beleskey can play but was never worthy of his contract. At 50% a good addition. And an ex Coventry Blaze player too!!

I’m fine with it. My first thought is it shows how much the rangers valued ‘‘tis kid lindgren and how much the Bruins didn’t want to give him up.

Flip spooner for another pick. It’s adding to the return

Belesky at 50% retained is the salary dump. Belesky was pretty good 3rd/4th loner and even played up that season. If he gets his azz in skating shape. He can be a contributor

How hilarious would it be if they got knocked out in the first round and Nash resigned with us on a cheap contract?

  44. James G Avatar
    James G

BDL, how can you like this deal? NHLers? Spooner slots in behind DD and carries $2.8 million hit. Beleskey is trash. most significant thing he’s done as a Bruin was run Stepan a couple years ago. $3.8 million cap hit and the guy has played in 63 games in the last two years.

  45. DaveB Avatar
    DaveB

Ohhh – Beleskey with 50% salary retention by Boston. Still overpaid at $1.9m per, but I can live with that. He could actually contribute on the 4th line (or more like 3rd if we tear it all down). Big hitter – remember when he wrecked Step?

  49. GhiYourGhiEvrockriser Avatar

We need some more Americans and left handed D on this team. There’s seriously not enough. I hope Gorton keeps going in that direction.

    James,

I got a feeling Gorton is grilling and frying much bigger fish, and getting Nash done and out of the way wit a return they are happy with. Wraps that up, it’s not lingering, doesn’t run the chance of losing Boston as a winger partner, and can concerntrate on the big complicated stuff

Of course everyone remembers his hit on Stepan, Dave. It was the only time his name has been mentioned in an NHL game in the last 3 years. $1.9 for him and $1.8 for Jesper Fast. Nice fourth line. What a joke.

  54. GhiYourGhiEvrockriser Avatar

I just finished the women’s hockey Olympic shootout. Anyone know why the US went first in the extra shootout round when Canada was going first the whole way up to that? Not a single peep from the commentators.

    James,
The key to the deal is the 1st and Lindgrin. Spooner, and Belesky are depth. You can’t have a team full of rookies on the ice. Beleskey is 1.9. Spooner will replace DD.
