The Rangers have won…wait for it…7 straight games against the Bruins. Getting number 8 won’t be easy. The Bruins are red-hot ( 17-1-4 in their past 22 games ), and they’re getting Brad Marchand back from his 5 game suspension tonight.
What also makes it very close to impossible is this:

“A lowercase “r” rebuild. It’s not a teardown. Let’s make it perfectly clear here, Jeff Gorton, the GM of the Rangers and his management team are not looking at burning this thing down and bottoming out for 3-5 years like a lot of franchises have done. He is most certainly in the mode in listening on anybody, I would go so far to say this, there is only one untouchable on the New York Rangers and that is Henrik Lundqvist. We will see rentals flying out the door, Rick Nash, Michael Grabner, Nick Holden, those guys will be dealt before the deadline. Jeff Gorton will listen on Ryan McDonagh, he will listen on Mats Zuccarello and he is going to listen on some of the younger guys like JT Miller, Chris Kreider and others. I can’t imagine a deal that would get Brady Skjei out of New York any time soon but I also know that at this time the Rangers are not shutting down any possibilities and their quest right now is to get as many first and second round picks, prospects and young players as they can to try and reload over the next number of years.”
On the price for Rick Nash, “it’s going to be high. He gave his 12 team list to the Rangers and the Rangers are getting a lot of calls on Nash. The Rangers are prepared to eat 50% of his remaining salary to facilitate him getting to a cap team and that could increase the yield that the Rangers get on the return. What they want right now is three pieces, a first round pick, a top prospect and a lesser player/pick/prospect. It’s the same as what Buffalo has been asking for Evander Kane.”
On Grabner and Holden, “there is lots of interest in Grabner and any time you get a depth defenseman like Holden, he’s more of that second level rental but he is going to go and someone will give up a draft pick to get him. Grabner is the really interesting one because he scored 27 goals last year, 21 this year and his offensive productivity is better than Nash’s has been and his salary is much less than than Nash costs. Right now the Rangers are asking teams for a first round pick on Grabner, that is it. There are teams out there that are saying they won’t give a first rounder on Grabner now, still 2-3 weeks from the deadline but that is the asking price right now. Some teams think that he will be a more cost efficient buy than Nash, who will cost them more in terms of dollars and acquisition price.”
McKenzie added later in the show that Tampa Bay is talking to the Rangers about Ryan McDonagh.
McCleod can go now, please. He has nothing to offer short- or long-term. None of this is his fault, but there’s got to be something worth seeing down in Hartford.

Chill man. It has nothing to do with like or dislike for zucc. It amuses me greatly that you immediately call out a 4th line waiver pick up as “not doing his job”, which is clearly a physical one, but all these other guys that play soft as vanilla all year get some sort of pass.

The Riley Nash, Schaller and 2nd Bergeron goals are an embarrassment on the defense , the 1st Bergeron goal is on Hank – the other 2 i’d pin on poor forward back-checking and coverage.
The first 15 minutes, we had 2 golden opportunities to go 2-1, maybe even 3-1 up then after that they’re gone, no heart. There’s no structure, no coverage, no clearing the net, no blocking shots – it was so bad it made me pine for the Blockness Monster and the days of Torts.
I’d be sacking Ruff right now and putting AV on notice that he’s gone at the end of the season.
Zucc and I are still tied for goals in 2018.

Wick, not clear why the fact that McLeod did nothing in the Nashville despite 2 players getting hurt with questionable hits does not bother you …it sure as hell bothered me ….he may have been a 4th line waiver pick up but I thought playing physical and protecting his team mates was his job and the reason they brought him in

The top nine is a mess. This roster’s capability was massively overestimated. At this point they’re injured they’re frustrated they can’t score they can’t defend and the goalie is getting pulled every game when he can’t withstand ridiculous amounts of peppering and defensive break downs. Maybe 10 years ago he could make that crap look less ugly but that can’t be expected every game.
Zibanejad has 15 goals he scored 5 of them in the first three games of the season.

Nash streaky 16
Skjei is minus-8 on the year. “Oh that stat is meaningless” WELL it must really be because Smith is a plus-2. They look like they belong in the AHL. Our prospects must REALLY not be close if they feel like those kids would do a worse job.
And look, I get it. Times like these cause you to single out one guy or the other and defend one guy or the other but it takes an overall organizational screw up to be where they are right now. None of those guys I mentioned above are the guys out injured. Theyre the ones who were being counted on ( along with a few others that were on the ice last night) to step up and carry this team. Not just in the midst of injury but for the season. Is it mental? physical? is it a matter of being utilized the wrong way? Is every member of the roster regressing at the same time? Do they miss Stepan and Glass this badly? I don’t have the answer and apparently none of them do either. Nor does the coaching staff that added a hall of fame coach over the summer and got worse. Call it a fire sale rebuild re-tool re-boot whatever. just start making a plan. and be damn sure it’s a good one.
