No earth shattering news today. Except Carp mentioned that Mika rode a bike today in the morning. If you listened to AV’s conference, he said the same. The rest of AV’s answers consisted of multiple “obviously” and one ugotz.
Some good hockey discussion in previous post, along with some decent g(j)ibberish. But it was getting too long and I imagine some people on their mobile devices were getting their boxers in a bunch

Dammit Captain
🙁
a bunch of reposts:
Marcel Dionne and the Belmonts.
Quick story. Remember Dionne playing on the OLD line with Ogrodnick and the L escapes me … then he was kinda forced to retire and he ran a dry cleaning business (aside: he also won a Mercedes, I think it was, with a hole-in-one at a charity outing).
Anyway, the next year Johnny O was up for a contract. He wanted a ton, and the Rangers weren’t budging, despite his 42 or whatever number of goals. So while we killed time talking to his agent, then Neil Smith, then his agent and so on … a bunch of us reporters were holed up in our hotel in Glens Falls during training camp, (the other writers won’t be named) we wrote a limerick:
There was an Ogrodnick named John
Whose 42 goals were a con.
The brass said, ‘my ass’
‘You ain’t getting no cash’
‘You can go iron shirts with Dionne.’
I had a buddy in HS who grew up in the Bronx and actually knew Dion. And Runaround Sue.
Oh, the L was Lafleur.
I gotta write that book.
Like the time Dionne was scratched for a game at the Spectrum. He was in the pressbox, which was right there among the crowd. The Flyers fans were taunting him about sucking and being scratched and being old.
And Dionne just dropped F-bomb after F-bomb on them, occasionally whipping out his wallet, waving it, and asking the fans how much money they make.

Update re Chytil: Sustained cervical strain on hit Sat night. Day to day with Wolf Pack.
Thank you, Carp. And sorry. I was good no to delete this post until I realized you’re reposting
Going to…
I get cervical strain every time I attend a management meeting. From yawning.
https://www.sny.tv/rangers/news/filip-chytil-is-being-listed-as-day-to-day-with-an-injury/262821166
12/4/17 | 1:02PM: Larry Brooks notes that Filip Chytil is day to day after sustaining a “cervical strain” after taking a hit on Saturday night. (Brooks)
The Rangers are likely to allow Chytil to play for the Czech Republic at the World Juniors later this month.
Chytil missed a few games in November due to an illness and then returned and scored two goals.
In the 7 games since returning, Chytil has 2 goals and 1 assist and has been scoreless in five of the seven games. He has 8 shots on goal in those 7 games.
Enjoy the Dionne stories…one of my favorite players. Remember him faking out Steve Baker from center ice on a dump in and scoring
Remember Dionne willingly fighting Hospodar in that playoff brawl.
I met Marcel Dionne, Vic Hadfield and Joe Mullen at NHL Breakout in, if I remember correctly 1997 0r 98. My son was in a Roller Hockey tournament in Tampa where NHL Breakout was being held. Got to see and touch Lord Stanley’s cup. Not sure if the Belmonts were there, if they were I never saw them. I got an autographed puck from Vic Hadfield, my son has a signed puck from Joe Mullen.
Speaking of signed pucks … My nephew and his girlfriend were at the last home game. She texted me during the game to ask me if Eddie Giacomin was any good. I said he was a legend, why? She had won an auction for an Eddie Giacomin autographed puck for my nephew. She said last time she won a J.T. Miller. She asked me which one is better. I told her to look up at the ceiling at the Garden.
I said, “Do you see No. 1 up there?”
Yes.
“Do you see No. 10 up there?”
No.
“There’s your answer.”
Lol at which one is better
Then again, #30 hasn’t been retired yet 😉
Chytil=injury prone 😉
Can’t get chytil out of the tub, way to go gorton….bust!!!
😉
At the end of the day, I prefer reading about Vigneault’s press conferences.
Just like the good old days enjoying Carp’s erudition and humor but without the coffee. 🙂
Dionne cursing, waving his wallet. Classico.
Guess who?

Spoke briefly with old Slats today.
… among others, including Hated, Ondrej, Shampoo, TRS, Enigma, Shatty, Bazooka Joe, the great Schoeny.
What did old Slats say?
Sometimes smoke gets in your eyes
that. and that he no longer is the GM. and that he had to pee.
Sathre.
Was Sathre a centre or a wingre? Offencive or defencive? And didn’t he bierfly play for the Oilres? And the Bluec?
Is that Rammer on the right?
With the way teams ahead of our boys are playing it’s going to be really hard for the NYR to make the playoffs. That bad start will cost them in the long run. CBJ, debs, azzlanders, caps and pens ain’t going away! Of course this is just my St Pete opinion. Better make the right choices come trade deadline!
Agreed with St Pete.
Those teams ahead of the nyr ain’t going anywhere.
We went 9-3 and November and yet still stink.
For the Rangers to have a legitimate shot they will need to beat those teams ahead of them regularly and have at least 8 or 9 game winning streak. And that’s probably not going to happen. This is the year to take advantage of trading Nash, Graber, Zuuuucc, and possibly the Capt.
Sather is the GM’s boss. Gorton does not have Carte Blanche…
.
And why would anyone blanch a cart?
SPE,
CBJ has one fewer loss, NJD, Pit, NYI, Was have one more win. Game in hand on Was, CBJ, two on Pit. Playoffs decided in… Not December.
That’s it Norm keep you chin up!
Some vintage Carp today on Dionne!
Watching the end of the Fish-sticks- Panthers.
Ev-Wave if you’re there. So many empty seats we’re bound to see you!
OT-Points for everyone! Ho-ho-ho!
Thanks Bettman.
And I never said decided, I said it will be hard to make the playoffs. D
Please don’t put your words in my mouth!
AV better watch out. Keenan got canned. If the precious little egos thought Torts was a tyrant…
Barzal can play.
Isles win again…just give them the damn cup. Oh da pain, bro. Oh da pain.
You know I’m right!
Blanche DuBois
St.Pete-i imagine no one in the organization wants to say it out loud, (especially in early December), but it sure sounds like that’s how this plays out.
I’d be fine with that as long as they bring back picks AND young talent ready to step into the roster by early next year at the latest. Unless they’re going full-rebuild, the latter is key.
In the meantime, you hope the guys you mentioned keep producing and stay healthy.
“With the deal in place, the NHL is expected in coming months to make a franchise announcement regarding Seattle. The league could award an expansion franchise or have a team relocate here from an existing market struggling to have a new arena built — with Arizona or Calgary the two most likely franchises.”
https://www.seattletimes.com/sports/nba/keyarena-mou-approved-by-seattle-city-council-will-nhl-announcement-soon-follow/
———————————–
Seattle is a great market. Young, tech-heavy, they’ve been fiending for a team ever since the Sonics got taken away. Instant rivals with Vancouver and the Cali teams and an easy museum to put in that arena with the Seattle Metropolitans being the first US Team to win the Stanley Cup and decades of junior hockey.
Yeah, let’s even FURTHER water-down the talent. May as well throw Pelham High School and Don Bosco Prep in there, too.
I hope they do expand to 32 teams, makes a lot of sense.
Must relocate a team to QC though!
I’d like to see 30, then whittle away one team a year until we’re back to the Original Six. Then, when you paid to see a hockey game, you’d see a hockey game.
That’s right, Coos. You wouldn’t see any half-hearted efforts like you do now. If players didn’t play hard for 60 minutes, they’d be off the team.
Game day!
Screw the pens!
Let’s Go Rangres !
I hate the pens!
LVGK has stoked the fires of expansion with their start this season – no wonder they are moving forward with a potential Seattle franchise
azzlanders to Seattle
‘sphincter. ‘ – now there’s a word!
Carp – Loved the stories. If you don’t write that book at least use them for your column or jot them down here.
Loved the Ogrodnick story. I remember that the Rangers used to announce a player of the month and whenever Ogrodnick won or was honored for anything, he seemed like he was always good for two goals.
Almost didn’t make it to work this morning because “Slap Shot” was on early this a.m. and I just had to watch. That movie never gets old. It was always the first movie shown on the first Iona College hockey road trip – back when we had a hockey team. Aw, I just depressed myself.
Big boy pants tonight shuffle board is not going to cut it!
“Was that Slats?”
“no idea, I have to talk to Rammer”
Carp will say I’m lying but I’d rather rebuild than keep up with a bubble team full of vets that I’m officially sick of looking at in blue jerseys (and white)
Anthony – I was just thinking almost the exact same thing. Carp, if you have the energy, if not non-fiction book, a hockey novel from the point of view of a sports journalist, with your unique sense of insight, compassion, satire, and wit might fit the bill. Who knows? You might get 5 mil for the movie rights. We’re waiting. 🙂
John O’Grodnick drove the snakes out of Ireland.
Sign me up James couldn’t agree more. If something isn’t changed (Philosophy) we will be having the same conversation this time next year!
Sign Plato!
That’s putting Descartes before the horse, no?
Does this equate with hockey? – Geno Auriemma, coach of the perpetually incredible women’s basketball program at UCONN, said recently that no top bball youth he’s ever met yearns to become ‘defensive player of the year,’ so he recruits only crazily talented offensive kids so that he’s stacked with them, then it’s easy to sit anyone who won’t play super-grit defense. Kind of brilliant in a pedestrian way, wot?
TomK – Never forget at the 2015 draft when Sather overplayed his hand, and the Oil wound up trading the 15th overall to the Isles for Griffin effin Reinhart. THAT’s the pick that should’ve gone to us for Talbot (being that the market was set with Robin friggin Lehner going to Buffalo for the 21st overall). Barzal was that pick.
Kant imagine the Marx that Descartes got on tests at the Symposium. I’d be a Freud to look it up.
Parmenides, but is it too late to join the pun contest? I Satre miss doing this.
Ugh…Sartre. Terrible time for a typo but I won’t Hegel over it.
Tonight we face Tristan Jarry. Future multiple times in a row Vezina winner.
Good morning, boneheads!
We will do a ticket contest for tonight’s game. I’ll post it a bit later. But this one will be for regulars only. Any objections?
That contest sucks.
ilb, that was Rammer.
So you guys think the Isles, Devils & BJs are gonna pile up 110-115 points each & run away. wow.
E x3 is quite regular 🙂
I had Tristan in the fantasy league, but Isolde him.
This year, the leaves can rake ME.
Devils will come back to earth… Isles still need a goalie
I never said that Carp. I repeat myself. If the keep playing the way they are it will be hard for our boys, to make the playoffs considering their abysmal start.
They being fsticks, debs, tortsers, caps, & pens.
Marek Mazanec?
Goalie that used to be in the preds organization I think
They should play Hank half the game, and then bring in Mazanec.
How is your eye, wicky? Any answers or possible dilutions?
Solutions, not dilutions.
NEW POST
My concern is they become like the Wings were the last few years. Win enough to keep the playoff streak going with no real chance of winning the Cup. Of course at least Wing fans had the Cups they had won. We got ugotz.
DaveB-Just brutal!
As hard as it was to part with Talbot and Hagelin, Sather’s lack of return on either one made it even worse. And then Hags gets traded to the Pens, beats us in the playoffs and . . . well, you know the rest.
Ahem….
NEW POST
Been awhile..
