Happy Thanksgiving!

Good morning, boneheads!

No time to review this game. And no reason. They finally won a laugher. Except it looked like it’d be a long night without McDonagh initially. And it’s still could’ve been if it wasn’t for one impressive passing by Miller to Smith ( who had the best game this year to date ) to Kreider, and a blooper allowed by Darling. Funniest thing about this goal was that Zibanejad was the last person to know it went in as he was going for a change. Darling looked like he wished he brought his umbrella. Plus, let’s not underestimate Hank’s play in net during first period.

The Rangers cleaned it up defensively in the second, and Carolina looked like an expansion team from the 90s in the third. Their young defense is impressive, but not in their own zone. I didn’t watch any games played by Carolina this season, but yesterday they didn’t look like a playoff team. Again.

Happy Thanksgiving! Enjoy your day with your families, everyone! There is a lot to be thankful for in our lives. Thank you everyone for being a part of this family, and for keeping this unique place alive. We all hope that one day Carp can return and continue spoiling us with his knowledge of the game of hockey, his thoughts about this team, and his unparalleled game reviews. And some g(j)ibberish. For now, we’ll try our best to keep it alive even though most of our write-ups are amateur-hour, two-bit, bush-league, pedestrian attempts (where in holy hell is Miami?)

Have a great holiday!

Happy Thanksgiving to all you Boneheads! We win and Nash is still a Ranger. Seems like everytime I slame a player, Kreider & AV’s son he comes up big. I guess I need to do this more often. Eat well and be thankful y’all!

Solid game all around. Hank made the timely saves in the first. Took the will out of the Canes. Zucc made about 12 wish passes last night. One found its way through, so he’s great.

I’m out today with flu-like symptoms today. I’m going to be under quarentee in the bedroom when my in-laws get here. My poor wife is running around and the kids aren’t much help.

FWIW-If the Rangers do in fact decide to trade McDonough at the deadline, they had better get more than an Etam, a Gropp, a DeAngelo or a guy who could become a 3C.

McDonough could be a huge piece of the puzzel for a team like the Leaves. Although his contract expires in July, 2019, he’s currently a bargain @ $4.7M. His speed, his defensive and offensive skills, as well as his leadership and playoff experiece could put a team over the top.

The fact is, I’d have mixed feelings about dealing McDonough. Slats fleeced the Habs to get him and he’s been a workhorse. My 9 year old has his jersey.

However, if they do deal him, they’d better get a solid return. Ideally, you’d like to see a bidding war. Maybe put a clause in there that you get an extra pick if his new team gets to the Conference Finals. As far as I’m concerned, (depending on a team’s needs) he’s worth more than Duchene.

In one sense, his value only sinks as his contract winds down. On the other hand, a team that feels they’re close at the deadline might be more willing to go for it.

Kreider hurts my brain, which knows that now is the moment to trade him, when his stock is high. But maybe this is the game where he suddenly realizes what could happen if he brought it night in and night out. Probably, though, he’s going to settle for being a streaky player who’s been dangerous in the playoffs (other than last year). And a pretty damn good one.

  20. cooscoos Avatar

Sadly, I think he has settled, Norm, and for that reason and no other, it wouldn’t bother me greatly at this late date if he were included in a trade that brought back good value.

Kreider has trade value when he’s hot, in my view, probably not as much as he used to when was perceived to be a future all-star.

Soooo Kreider at the age of 26 should be traded because he is streaky or doesn’t realize all his potential or whatever….
The fact he is an inseparable part of the team’s most effective line notwithstanding. Last year that line was on fire prior to Zika injury. On fire again this season. Zika (24) and Butch (22) would be nowhere near as effective without Kreider scraping the boards and retrieving the puck.
Other GMs would line up to get him.

Don’t think the tax benefit is that high. First, its only at the state level and only against income generated in state – you still pay taxes on those ‘peformances’ in other cities/states. So, roughly, you will only get a 50% no tax vs. a NY max of 8.8%. Thats about 45K per 1M. Nothing to sneeze at for sure but perhaps not quite the game changer many make it out to be

For all intensive purposes, Purple is in a different role. Definitely needs to fire it more. A lot more.

  47. Rick Carpiniello (@RickCarpiniello) Avatar

Backing up to previous comment, shouldn’t a basketball team run a pentagon offense?

  48. cooscoos Avatar

Problem with this team, as I see it, is that we have too many perpetual potential ‘stars’ ready to break out who have yet to break out. And they continue to not break out.

  49. cooscoos Avatar

If they ran a Pentagon offense, would Dolan hire Mad Dog Mattis?

Thou shalt not criticize St. Kreider, no point in having higher expectations for a guy with his talent in his peak years. Seriously, hoping he keeps it up, moves to all-star level. One thing that will help him now that he’s on a skill line: No penalties–not stupid ones, mind you, no penalties period–for this excellent ten-game stretch. Perhaps keeping a cooler head will help him make that move.

The only thing Haze has that will compare to Step is his slow skating. Step was a great 2C. Haze needs to step up from 3C; can start by wearing his big boy pants on the ice.

  80. Norm Merton Avatar
    Norm Merton

Pretty sure Hayes is never going to be a big-boy pants player in this blog’s sense of it. He’s a possession and pass-pass-pass guy adapting to the full-ice game. Needs to keep improving his face-off game, 2:1 wins last game, good sign. Will never be the sniper Fast is 🙂

  81. Rick Carpiniello (@RickCarpiniello) Avatar

Haze is a better skater than Stepan. might be a better passer (might). Not as good defensively, not as good a PK, has to prove he can approach Stepan’s offense or be as good offensively … or for that matter overall. Don’t know if that will ever happen. But he only has to be a second-line center. Stepan, miscast as he was, had to be a No. 1.
