Hank did play better, but can he control a rebound occasionally.
Did you catch the Run Around Zucc special? I forget which goal it was. Zucc line hemmed in. Zucc runs around. Puck finally leaves zone. Zuccs line mates change. Zucc coughs up the puck in the neural zone. Zucc, right next to the bench, decides not to change. Puck back in the Rangers zone. Zucc runs around some more, Vegas scores.

Sources have told The Post that Chris Kreider is not on the table and neither is J.T. Miller. Does that mean Mats Zuccarello would have to go? Or would the Canadiens insist on Brady Skjei as the central piece of the return for Galchenyuk?
Wicky (it’s about battle level, will over skill)
This on spectors…
SPECTOR’S NOTE: I think the Rangers are seriously interested in one or two players on the Canadiens. Galchenyuk and Shaw could be the obvious targets. But with Galchenyuk showing improvement of late despite skating on the fourth line and Shaw playing well with Danault and Pacioretty on the second line, Bergevin could be reluctant to move them right now. Of course, it depends on what the Rangers are willing to part with.

That’s not terrible, but it would depend on the pick imo.

BDL said: Hank did play better, but can he control a rebound occasionally.
If HL controlled his rebounds then there would be less talk about second, third and fourth saves which would really cut into Salmon Joe’s skate licking. Even with a ‘good’ D, giving up rebounds the way HL has been doing would still lead to a lot of unnecessary goals. Again, not all his fault but he doesn’t make it any easier.

Going on record right now that I want nothing to do with Galchenyuk.
4.5 million dollar 23 year old that two coaches haven’t been able to get enough out of since his one promising season? No thanks.

As with any player, it depends on what you are giving up. I’m a big believer in gambling on greatness. If they could get Galchenyuk at there price ( no Kreider, Miller, Skjei), you do it.

So Mac not practicing today, coupled with his atrocious play so far this season, must mean he is injured. If that is the case why continue to play him? Can they actually be any worse off defensively without him?
I have no problem acquiring Galchenyuk depending on cost…if it centres around zucc, skjeL, hayes…I’m all in. If it centres around kreider I’m not so sure but I’d probably end up doing it based on irony alone. Miller…i don’t think I would.
I also don’t think it needs to be either/or when it comes to us acquiring a player.
This roster needs 2 top line forwards in addition to a couple other things.
If I’m the rangers, I would not simply be looking at either Galchenyuk or Duchene (as examples).
As a ranger fan, I would not want one OR the other. I would like to think as an organization the rangers understand that need two, not one, top level forward.
Sittoo, You’re talking about the coach that allowed Mac to play on a broken foot when he could barely stand on skates in game 7 against Tampa. He’ll play him all season at less than 100% and having never had the same defensive partner for more than 2 games in a row
Wicky (it’s about battle level, will over skill)
I would not trade zucc for a bag of pucks. He’s just a redundant part on a team that needs another flavour besides vanilla. Despite him being 5’6” and that being what makes him a fan favourite.
Pete
Yes we do need at least two top end forwards, but neither Duchene or Galchenyuk are that, just more of the often good but rarely great (Duchene) and could be good upon a change of scenery (Galchenyuk) that we always acquire at far too exorbitant a cost. Acquire those two players and if everything goes great we sneak into the playoffs only to lose in the first or second round and then expect to have this same conversation for the next three or four seasons with an even shallower prospect pool from which to trade the next paper savior

If not, is he just a fall guy? If he did know, is he purposely not following the program, and therefore looking to get fired?
Pete
Wick, don’t think there are any real difference makers available that could right this ship in the short run. They’d be wise to follow the Yankees path from two seasons ago and trade at least a player or two that would bring back a good haul of young talent players/picks and keep the younger players like Miller and Brady who still have length on their contracts and who could use a chance under a new coach.
—
It would hurt, but Mac is the guy with the biggest value and it will only decrease if they don’t trade him by the deadline. Kreider may be the next most coveted, though would be a harder decision to move him for me. A coaching change surely would do him wonders though. If they were to move one or both of those players may as well move Zuc, though that may cause the biggest fan unrest and hard to predict how big a return he actually fetches. No matter what the pending UFAs should all go by the deadline
—
Having said all that, history tells us the Rangers will instead continue the delusion and trade for a Duchene or player of a similar ilk so they can fight for the 8th place. We all know how that ends
Fair Point is where Plebes go who can’t totally hack the program at West Point.

Just for poops and laughs, I followed up on the question about the two $4+ mil grinders BobbyO was posting about…
Games played does not tell the story, TOI and minutes do
Grinder #1 averages 1 goal every 77 minutes played and a point every 25 minutes played
Grinder #2 averages 1 goal every 59 minutes played and a point every 28 minutes played
See norm, I included assists just for you.
Papa Bear
Always liked Beast Mode Boyle, even when he’d break his stick again and again on the PK.
Beezle
It might be easier to look at it from the point of view of a) who do we want to keep and b) who is unmovable because of play and/or contract
a) zib, miller, skjei, kreider
b) hank, capt. kirk (also would be embarrassing to organization to move so soon)
I know some of you hate skjei, but I think in any serious reboot you understand he is your offensive LD, not your shutdown man/men. You need that element to be successful.
At this point, I wouldn’t count on much of anything in return for Nash at the deadline. But you can hope he goes on a run in January to rekindle interest. Also wonder if rest of league likes Zuc anywhere near as much as most NYR fans, but I am biased as always thought his play has been overrated.
CCCP
“The New York Rangers caused a huge stir Monday night when Glen Sather, Doug Risebrough, Jim Schoenfeld and Gilles Leger showed up in the Canadian capital for Montreal/Ottawa. Chances are they weren’t there for the beaver tails, although I thought it was odd a pure scouting mission wouldn’t include GM Jeff Gorton.”
So tell us again please that Sather is gone and doesn’t run the show still….
St Pete Eli
Pete
I’ve been saying that over and over again we all know how that ends. Right back here at the same place year after year middle of the pack, 1st rd exit, late 1st or no 1st at all. This crew had their chance and couldn’t get it done. Whether now or at the deadline, Nashless, Zucc, Grabner, Staal, and probably McD must be moved. It is the only way Lundqvist will scream “Trade Me.”
St Pete Eli
After they more then likely get crushed tomorrow night it will be even more apparent!
Pete
Staal isn’t moving at the deadline given his full nmc. Either buy him out or pray a team on his trade list will take him come July 1, 2018 if we eat half of his contract….wouldn’t hold your breath given still will have 3 years left on the deal
Beezle
If somebody took G for ok coin, they’ll take Staal at a discount. On a team where forwards actually help out properly he would be a good 3rd, sometimes 2nd line addition. In a dysfunctional environment, not so much.
Pete
Years are the bigger issue beez. Girardi got a 2 year deal from Tampa, which honestly surprised me, don’t think anyone but a bottom feeder was going to give him 3 years and he wouldn’t have approved a trade there, so rangers chose to buy him out. Think it will be the same concern with staal, so may be forced to buy him out as well. I know the cap hit was longer, but given how many lefties we already had in the system on defense (and few righties), buying out staal last year was the smarter overall move in my opinion
Re: Slats and Gorton – Remember Belichick and Parcells. When Belichick realized that Parcells would be hovering over his shoulder like a large mouthed Toucan, he split pronto.
Staal would be a regular D on any team in the NHL other than maybe Nashville. Certainly Pittsburgh, Washington, Chicago and Tampa.
James G
I think if they bring in Galchenyuk for picks/prospects it’s considered youth for youth. He will turn 24 in Feb.
But the hair on the back of my neck stands up thinking about what if they get him and he’s not anymore than he is now. That’s a scary scenario down the middle if Hayes is given a new contract.
Hypothetically if you got someone to take Hank’s contract and let Nash walk you absolutely have to do everything in your power to convince Taveres to come here (based on the assumption that you have Shestyorkin ready to come play in the U.S.
Gov Chris Christie today reported that George Bush Sr. rolled up behind him and grabbed a handful of ass. Christie said that he would have let it go, but it is not the first time.
Nash would have some value for s playoff bound team that isn’t looking to him to be anything but veteran depth, just not sure he gets a first anymore.
—
Be a very fine needle to thread to find a team willing to take on staal for three years and he’d approve. Like G, don’t think he would see a buyout as he’d be free to choose his next destination, including a local one that the rangers wouldn’t trade with and yet would let him keep his family in their happy Greenwich home!
Wicky (it’s about battle level, will over skill)
I still think if you could convince hank (by trading a couple of “core” guys) that it’s a tear down, Toronto is the absolute logical destination.
Papa Bear
Zucc will bring back value. He should be on the block.

Winnepeg was an option but it looks like Hellebuyck finally learned how to goalie.

Mcdonut would be one of a very few rangers I would try really hard to not trade.
Pete
Bad news for any leafs trade is it looks like they are at cap and relying on ltir at the moment, which makes even a Mac trade to them hard (Hank would require us to eat half his salary likely even to have a shot)
Pete
But wick do you want to resign him for 7-8m/yr for 7 or 8 years in two seasons? If not better to maximize return
Papa Bear
Sell high. McDonuts probably ain’t getting much higher.

If I’m Gorton, I’m committed to rebuilding my blue line and Center position. I don’t want draft picks, I want NHL ready and almost ready prospects.

I have a problem with Wicky but that’s another story.
My bad of my response sounded mean or whatever. It was just funny to me that Gorton would send SLATS on an assignment.

Slats is lucky he knows what plane to get on. No way he is running the Rangers
There is no chance Slats makes a move over Gorton’s head. None.

In 3 innings Dodgers are about 0 for 12 in chances to get back into this game.

Maybe not Caro, but don’t think think Gorton can make certain obvious moves without sather’s/Dolan’s blessing. Not unusual to require the owner’s permission of course, but Dolan knows nothing about hockey (or basketball, but I digress), so he will consult with Slats of course.

Having said all that, history tells us the Rangers will instead continue the delusion and trade for a Duchene or player of a similar ilk so they can fight for the 8th place. We all know how that ends
An important element to creating a winning atmosphere here is, in addition to a first line center, some intelligent playable toughness sans penalties.
Always liked Beast Mode Boyle, even when he’d break his stick again and again on the PK.
After they more then likely get crushed tomorrow night it will be even more apparent!
Staal isn’t moving at the deadline given his full nmc. Either buy him out or pray a team on his trade list will take him come July 1, 2018 if we eat half of his contract….wouldn’t hold your breath given still will have 3 years left on the deal
If somebody took G for ok coin, they’ll take Staal at a discount. On a team where forwards actually help out properly he would be a good 3rd, sometimes 2nd line addition. In a dysfunctional environment, not so much.
If Staal is faced with a buyout, he might waive the NMC … Might.
Fair point, Wick.
So Gorton sends Sather on an assignment, and we’re supposed to to think that means Sather’s in charge? Okey dokey.
Gorton sends Sather on an assignment?! LMMFAO!
OKEY DOKEY, BRAH! 😀
What was Gorton busy with? Drawing up another “no plan”?
Gov Chris Christie today reported that George Bush Sr. rolled up behind him and grabbed a handful of ass. Christie said that he would have let it go, but it is not the first time.
If Staal is so good, how come even if he could be traded, no one would pay him his 4 million without the Rangers picking up a large chunk of that?
Gorton to Slats: “Get on it and don’t report back to me until you’re sure what you’re talking about”
Slats: “Take a hike, junior.”
C3, do you have a problem with me?
Sather is gone and doesn’t run the show !
I don’t think they get much for Nash, unless he goes on a tear, which he won’t.
I think he might be a valuable rental to a serious contender. Maybe more valuable without a contract beyond this season than with one. I don’t know.
Gotta hope for an injury to a top goalie on a contender before the deadline to move Lundquist. Otherwise, he ain’t going nowhere.
Agree. even then …
He’ll (Nash) add value to a contender, but I don’t believe they’ll get more than 3rd Rounder or marginal prospect.
Because it’s $5.7M per, coos.
Nash would have some value for s playoff bound team that isn’t looking to him to be anything but veteran depth, just not sure he gets a first anymore.

I still think if you could convince hank (by trading a couple of “core” guys) that it’s a tear down, Toronto is the absolute logical destination.
Zucc will bring back value. He should be on the block.
Winnepeg was an option but it looks like Hellebuyck finally learned how to goalie.
Or Winnipeg. It’s a nearby city.
There’s no doubt that they’re exploring what — especially — Zuccarello, Nash, McDonagh could fetch.
Mcdonut would be one of a very few rangers I would try really hard to not trade.
Bad news for any leafs trade is it looks like they are at cap and relying on ltir at the moment, which makes even a Mac trade to them hard (Hank would require us to eat half his salary likely even to have a shot)
But wick do you want to resign him for 7-8m/yr for 7 or 8 years in two seasons? If not better to maximize return
Sell high. McDonuts probably ain’t getting much higher.
If I’m Gorton, I’m committed to rebuilding my blue line and Center position. I don’t want draft picks, I want NHL ready and almost ready prospects.
Carp? Why would I have problem with you?! lol
I have a problem with Wicky but that’s another story.
My bad of my response sounded mean or whatever. It was just funny to me that Gorton would send SLATS on an assignment.
Slats is lucky he knows what plane to get on. No way he is running the Rangers
Slats is Gorton’s boss technically, but Gorton is running the program. You can take that to the bank. You’re not exaggerating, Papa.
Can Shattenkirk be dealt or does. He have a NMC?
There is no chance Slats makes a move over Gorton’s head. None.
This is comforting.
Making certain trades harder than others
Carp, not Caro!

Carp tells us what we wanna hear aka what the MSG make believe machine want us to hear 😛
New Post?
Too Soon?
Galchenyuk had 2.72 pts/60 TOI last season – #36 in NHL at age 22.
Closest NYRs – JT @ #58 and Kreider @ #60
.
Kids can flat out snipe. If you can get him reasonably, you bring him in.
.
Down side is he signed a $4.9M/per for 3 yrs in July – why would Habs do that if not planning on keeping him around? Who knows…
Dilly
If Gorton was the driver behind bringing in Shatty, he is batty.
Carp, re: your 8:50 – Great googamooga! Did not realize Staal’s Cap hit is 5.7 mil. 4.2 mil is his salary. Thanx for setting me straight.
Try not to be Catty when accusing Gorton of being Batty for bringing in Shatty. 🙂
Lundqvist to LVGK for Lindberg and Neal.
Pre and Post game clowns Big Pappy, Big Hurt, Keith and ARod resemble nothing less than a gaggle of teenaged girls at a slumber party.
Carp- Wish we could still read your reviews and articles on a day to day basis when you had your full time gig. (I hope you get a full time gig soon) FWIW-Really appreciate your candor here, particularly of late.

Shaddap!!!

Don’t disagree with what you are saying, I’d just like to have a better idea of what his demands are for his next contract.
I don’t think he’s worth 8 mil per, but I’d be ok if he got 6 or 6.5.
I started to write something and forgot what I was going to say. Being a Ranger fan leaves me speechless!
Oh yeah Hank is in denial If he thinks he is winning a cup with this cotton candy crew! Time to clean out some lockers and say so long to Bazooka Joe. Kucherov to Hank “All Night Baby” If the Rangers win tonight I won’t have anything negative to say until their next loss!
Good morning, boneheads!
This one is already too long, so
