Good morning, boneheads!
No time to review last night’s game. The other post is too long though.
We’ve seen too many first periods like that this season. That they came back just to lose it on another poor defensive play is a very little consolation at the moment. It’s becoming about points very early. And it’s already about this team’s identity.
You can find Brett Cyrgalis’ review from NY Post here.
Something has to change. And I believe changes are coming. Either it’s behind the bench, trades, or both.
There was some discussion around the net about Elliott Friedman, who apparently mentioned on Oilers Now (podcast) that Kreider could be a good fit in Edmonton. You can find something about it here, and here.
What do you think about Kreider to Edmonton for RNH?

Gorton should trade Park and Ratelle and see what happens.
Do not think Krieder’s value has changed one iota from last season to the first 11 games of this one. Many GMs would assume he is good for 25-30 Gs, plus solid PP screens with a possibility of increasing his output with different coaching along with a market based contract with 2+ seasons left on it.
This is not selling low at all.
Just for some context, Kreider’s 28 goals last season was 17th among all wingers (32nd any position) and 10th among LWs so let’s get a reality check here.
Anyone who fights on skates with his thumbs pointing at the sky will never (fill in the blanks).
Some people around here just like to hear themselves talk. (Don’t flatter yourself by thinking it’s YOU.) 🙂
SN, those numbers are not entirely accurate as a lot of players who are listed at C are actually wingers.
The 32nd at any position is obviously unaffected.
funny how nobody thinks the Rangers have top line talent but with 30 teams (last season) and 3 players on top line; the league has 90 ‘top line’ players.
NYR had 4 players in top 90 of goal scoring and 4 in top 90 in points; two players how overlapped on both lists;
JT Miller and Chris Kreider.
Nash, Donuts and Hank the only players with balls and intelligence enough t0 answer tough questions? Sad.
I believe there were 2 or 3 mis-categorized so not a big difference.
.
NYR is weak down the middle, but blames the forwards.
Hmmm…
Our highest guy was 40. Pittsburgh had three of the top 15.
THE and JT have a grand total of 4 goals, 2 each, 12 games in, and neither is exactly a defensive stalwart. Right now, they’re part of the problem.
WOW. Only guy to not hit a homer last night was Sandy Koufax.
The problem(s) is/are the D and the Center position and it affects everyone on the team.
Nobody gets a free pass but if you are weak down the middle, there is little chance you can compete in this league.
Investigate Costa Rica!
JT has 10 point in 12 games, we need more problems like him…
Not ONE shot last game. Forget goals, not a SHOT!
If one looks at productivity from one game, tremendous conclusions can be drawn.
Only 6 primary. 8 for Zika, 7 for Shat and Buch, and 6 for Zuke, all much higher percentages.
But that ONE GAME was major in terms of our plummeting direction and tanking season. If not now, when?
And I like JT. As with McDonagh, I think he’s stuck on the wrong team with the wrong bosses.
BDL
Sent you a trade proposal… 🙂
Listening to myself speak I say before we start trading players for other players We show the coach the door. I for one hate to see anyone fired, unless it’s Slats because he is the one responsible for this mess in the first place dating back to his hiring. A new coach even if it’s Ruffy will at least reveal if the our boys really do suck or if they shut it down and stop listening to Avoiding Victory. I don’t see this team winning anymore then 2 of the next 5 at their best, and they probably will lose them all. So no need rearranging the chairs when we are headed for the Lotto! Deadline comes around Sell, Sell, Sell! NO DESPERATION TRADES PLEASE! We have seen that clown show before!
My uncle was a clown. When he died, forty of his clown friends came to the funeral in a Volkswagen coupe.
I think almost everybody, including the scouts who come to every game, know that Kreider’s bottom stat line belied the kind of wildly inconsistent season he had.
I for one would not trade Krieder. Have said that since he got here and doubled down on it last year. But I also don’t think he automatically fetches a first-round pick.
If anything tells me that management has no clue whatsoever, it is watching Staal glide around with an ‘A’ on his chest.
THE would warrant a first round pick except he is paid 4 mil and is almost due for extraordinarily large bucks 2020.
Since when to they switch from baseballs to Pro V1’s in the World Series?
Doodie – looking at last year’s full season, not this season.
My other uncle was illusionist. Every afternoon he would walk down Third Avenue and turn himself into a bar.
If we can pay a top prospect and a first round pick for 1.25 seasons of Keith Yandle (take your pick on whether the first rounder was for KY and Duclair was for the retained salary, or vice versa), then someone is paying a first round pick for 1.25 – 1.5 seasons of Chris Kreider at $4m/season.
Though I would never trade him for a R1. If Kreider goes, we better be getting a good center who can play now in return.
Can’t we just trade Shattenkirk? He has an extremely friendly contract and he’s the amazing PPQB that everyone so desires. Shatt to Colorado for Duche…
@James and SN: I know Duchene is 26 now, he will be 28.x at end of contract and demanding large dollars and term on the next. Many do not view him as a (pricey) two year rental/bridge to something better but expect the NYR to keep him for long haul. He is not going to sign an extension today when he can get as good or far better at or near the end of his current contract, a new deal that ends far closer to retirement age.
So yeah, is he better than what we have now? Yes. But why give up anything unless you truly believe this team can be a serious contender for the cup this or next year? Otherwise you are committing to paying up to extend him for when you (hopefully) are in that position. I just don’t see it in our short or long term interest to sign this guy given the expected cost(s). Maybe NYR turn things around or make other moves to change that opinion but I wouldn’t go Duchene first. But this is why they pay St. Pete Eli the big bucks, to make decisions like this!
Well said beezlev2 I’m laughing all the way to the bank!
Don’t bother C3 I’ll just vote against it.
SN, so was I. Crosby was 3, Kessel and Malkin were 14 and 15. Zuke was our highest at 40.
If Kreider is traded foe Gal-chen-yuk the Ranger brass has gone off the deep end. Again does anybody in this cotton candy organization have any brains? Are the Rangers auditioning for the comedy channel?
I’m not doing Kreider-Galchenyuk.
Man. Nor would I. What about Kreider-Pacioretty?
My uncle had the Chair of Applied Electricity at Sing Sing. It was quite a shock when he died.
I had another uncle that died dancing. At the end of a rope. Last time I saw him he was hanging around Binghamton somewhere.
TUM
I would not do Kreider – Pacioretty
I’d probably do Kreider-Pacioretty. But do you really want a guy who coughs up a lung in the playoffs?
Then what have we been doing with Nash for the past half decade?
Well, they didn’t trade Kreider for him
I’m guessing they’re after Galchenyuk. If they give up a lot for him, that’s crazy
Doodie – I was referring to top line players (top 90), not top 30 forwards.
.
Kreider gets a first back (bottom 10) and/or very good prospect (top 15).
.
The Rangers have plenty of guys who cough up lungs in the playoffs,.
Sather at Montreal game..whet could go wrong
probably should have said “another” guy who hacks up a lung in the playoffs.
The good news, I guess, is I don’t think the Habs have any really old guys on really long, expensive contracts.
Forgot about WWEber. Poisonous contract.
Rather see How Kreider does with a new coach than trading him right now….Galenchenuk would be mistake
Can somebody claim Shipashev? He is going on unconditional waivers.
BDL – supposedly his agent had permission to set up a trade/deal; that would be a no-brainer unless the ask is too high cause he is definitely Leaving Las Vegas
Sorry that TUM was supposed to be TYM! No to Pacioretty. If Kreder goes it better be more than Galchenyuk. And Sather is every Ranger fans Michael Meyers! Until he is long gone we are doomed to failure!
More power to your Unc, Olga.
My boys take on the fish tonight.
LGGK!
I’d only take galchenyuk on a flier and we don’t have the cap space to do so. Don’t know what off-ice issues he has, but habs have buried him in their lineup, no reason any team should pony up for a guy whose own team doesn’t value him.
–/
SN, as others have said, Colorado will want assets that are under control for longer than Mac so don’t see that as a fit for them unless they planned to flip him right away. I’d want similarly young assets under control for a lot longer than Duchene if we moved Mac.

Agree with others that have said that is best to see what some of these guys can do under a new coach before making a trade unless someone makes an incredible offer. I’d have no problem trading Nash now tho, good guy and always given his all, just not ever going to be the answer here
Pete – I want to go to win Lotto, but not very likely, just like your scenarios. Avs have exhausted the league with their timeline and stop/start approach and now they are doing well so maybe the urgency is gone.
If you look back at my alternative, we rec’d Avs #1 2018 in addition to DueShane.
BDL
he’s making $ 4.5 million so no thanks on claiming him.

and it’s for next year too
The best thing that could happen to Kreider might be to be traded for someone he thinks is not as good as he is. Not the best thing for the Rangers, obviously. Who knows how these things work? Maybe a player’s agent–not Kreider’s, anyone’s–tells him he can’t be moved because of the dreck offered in return and that lights a fire? I have no idea. Trade speculation is just that, speculation, but it’s fun.
Maybe they can get Yemelin. I just wanted to type Yemelin.
Maybe they can get The Quick Brown Fox Jumps over the Lazy Dog.
No, I said Yemelin. Not Semin.
Staal and Semin have some bad blood.
.
Man, those Knights of Vegas play a fast game. Hold on to your socks tomorrow night.
Knights using 4th string goalie right now
AV is gone if they lose tomorrow
Isles beating Vegas, now on to their 4th goalie of the year. Amazing what they’ve pulled off. Ephemeral?
Vibin’ the Pioneer.
Carp
The wweber contract is only toxic to Nashville
Where are all the mtl and Galchenyuk rumours coming from?
Kreider for a 1st Rounder? Fire Gorton if he even considers such a trade.
Kreider for Galchenyuk? Send Gorton to Siberia if he does that deal.
Vegas game will be against a goalie making his first NHL start tomorrow.
We usually lose those games, TYM
“Maybe they can get The Quick Brown Fox Jumps over the Lazy Dog.”
What type of player is that?
See what I did there?
Letters now praise famous men.
Shaw got condon right in the head on a fly by
How you guys holding up. Haven’t been around much. Team is just pure garbage. Not fun times when season is over in first month. And no trading Kreider for galchenuk. Stupid me sits through every god damn post game show and same answers.
Looked a bit like Avery on Thomas…minus the stick lol
Shaw got condom right on the head on a fly by?
I’d rather trade miller. Tired of him and hayes
AV comes home. Looks at the cuckoo clock on the wall. Cuckoo bird comes out and says:
“Your time is up, b*tch!”
People still watch post game shows? I switch the channel as soon as game over.
It’s clear Miller is a big problem. When do we get rid of this non-performer?
Oh lord. Vegas playing a 12 year old goalie vs the Rangers. Get ready for the shutout…😱
We will never know, what kind of efforts by Gorton&Co. were made in off season to try to obtain one crucial piece of puzzle – #1 or #2 center (Thornton, Duchene), but we know the outcome – lack of it led to the negative domino effect and as a result we have amorphous team without pronounced structure, chaotic interlinks and even more chaotic play. What is worrisome – there is no systemic approach to the situation and no sense, that anyone in organization has any clue how to get out of this slump and what to do with this core problem. Season is truly drain to the toilet before it even started…
Ok tonight I actually got a laugh out of some really important Rangers news I saw on twitter! Forget about AV being on the hot seat or Kreids heading to Montreal. That’s nothing compared to the fact that Lundqvist apparently dressed as an IKEA bag for Halloween….
What will Gorton’s disguise be, though?
Norm I think he went to Ottawa disguised as Sather so he doesn’t take the fall for whatever boneheaded trade is coming our way…
Hey! Watch what you say about boneheads! ; )
Dave, Kreider has two full seasons after that so he would have even more value. Not eager to move him, but also don’t think AV is a good coach for him.
—
SN, all due respect man, but why would the AVs give us their first and take on Mac for only this season and next when they aren’t close to winning a cup and almost certainly won’t be able to resign him? Bad match for both teams
http://nypost.com/2017/10/31/rangers-management-saw-these-players-on-ottawa-scouting-trip/
larry has expected lines here
Vesey skating with DD and Miller ha ha ha ha ha ha ha! Bazooka Joe is a real piece of work!
If this team really want to play for AV they will come out of the gate like a rampant bull, if they don’t then that (for me) shows that the coach has lost the room and its time to go.
As for the MTL rumours, i can only see this being for Galchenyuk – question is who do we give up? Holden wouldn’t create enough cap space, so we’d have to add another roster player to clear space
