San Jose Sharks Vs. New York Rangers
Today, 7:00 PM on NSCA, MSG
Madison Square Garden, New York City, New York
The Rangers are looking to win two in a row and start building some momentum. They won ugly Saturday afternoon against Nashville and now have the task of facing almost future former Ranger Joe Thornton and the Sharks.
Your boys have picked up a point in three straight games and are now 1-0-2 on this 5 game home stand which will see them host their old friend Derek Stepan and the Arizona Coyotes on Thursday before headed to every Rangers fan’s favorite destination: Montreal.
It’s going to take some work to climb out of the early season hole they’ve dug for themselves and it’s still difficult to see an identity within this Rangers team right now but the optimist in me thinks they may be close. I know you’re all as curious as I am to see if they can find some consistency.
Looks like Lundqvist will be making the start and AV will again be using 11 Forwards and 7 defenseman as the coach seems to be leaving the lineup together for 3 consecutive games which he has done historically after a win.
That’s all I’ve got for now. HAV at it!

Foist?
NHL network touting the Rangers and ‘red hot’ Mika Zibanejad. Seriously?
Dazzling analysis from Mike Johnson: “Nash needs to get going”
hey ho two in a row!
Ho? Where?!
Call me stubborn, but Nash has 1 goal on 35 shots. A little luck would work wonders.
Serious Question: Can Nash lift the puck?
Familiar scenario…
Pull Lundqvist!
Softquist
Thornton’s beard is older than Labanc
Rangers have them right where they want ’em
Good old Rangers – heroically survived first minute and let it in on second…
Zucc free lancing again, his man gets a wide open look from the point
Handsification
Forget critique, I would really just like it if by the time I put the tv on this season the screen didn’t say “1-0” in favor of the opponent
Just once in a while
I screwed up this go Time. Thought they used 7 d Saturday.
slew foot
Sharks seem smaller than in years past
VC taking the body – me likey!
Yyyaawwwwwnnn…
Jagr on IR. Funny most people his age are moving to Florida from Canada, not the other way around
Hole-qvist.
Sigh… alright… what else is on tv?
This goalie is killing ANY hope, we still having…
No Black Hawks tonight?
Fast with the turnover with no pressure on him in neutral zone and then his man scores.
Softquist v2
Lundqvist is horrible. Put him out to pasture. Time to give Pavelec a chance on a regular basis. Can’t get much worse.
Sorry. Can’t trade LQ. Can’t buy him out. Gotta eat his cap space for a few more years.
Thanks, Slats.
LQ the gift that keeps on giving (up goals).
Arguably the most consistent goaltender of all-time is now the league’s most inconsistent.
…Deafening silence in world’s Most Quiet Arena
3 trips on one shift…play on.
I just tuned in, see it’s 2-0 sharks, nothing has changed in ranger land, moving on.
I think Shampoo Boy has the record for giving up the most first goals of career. Terrible
Madison Square Garden…the world’s most quiet arena.
If they don’t score here, they deserve to lose.
Passing when should shoot, shoot when has to pass… and hurt own people. Nice.
2 man advantage for the Rangers, tommy. Should be about even…
…and the story of the game will be the failed 5 on 3 while down 2-0 in the first…
Nash try to slalom around the whole opposite team…
Rangers looking to score and… ut ut, Along Came Jones…
Very, Bad. Period. (if you asked)
Nash was wide open in the slot and Zucc or Miller held on to it too long.
Zibanejad couldn’t get a shot on two attempted one-timers. Mcdonagh will never be confused with a Powerplay specialist.
They look slow
15 shots on goal in the last game and they won 2-0. 16 shots in the first period alone and they’re down 2-0.
It doesn’t matter if your goaltender gives up a million goals if you can’t put any past the opposing goaltender. These guys suck!
well, if your on the side that wants AV fired than the rangers are right on schedule.
Evro, look 7:40 LOL. Great minds…etc.
The nhl network guys suck! They’re amazed at the wonderful “defensive” play on Kreider and his all-around defense. It was a goddamn hook. STFU!
2nd unit looks better than 1st save for Butch. Ton of opps in close, need to finish.
If Nash was a horse, he would be taken out to the back of the barn and be shot.
Kreider deflects a shot in net – why is Henk not in butterfly though?
Bring on the Dilly !!
LGR!!!
I hate these early starts.
Trying to get caught up on dvr…see you guys when I actually am caught up
Frrrrmmm brmmmm flubba dubba wubba chhmmm gbbbba gaaa
Skip ahead, Wicky. Skip ahead.
Martin Jones the latest Jacques Plante. Every opposing goalie emulates a hall of famer against the Rangers.
Burp.
Eric sighting?
So yo review, the Rangers second line center is a guy who was the occasional 4th line center in Edmonton last year. He is also on the 2nd PP. And people wonder why Kreider and Miller are not scoring?
Holy Crap! The Hockey Show with former NHL star Anson Carter is on tonight! Finally!
Jones for Vezina
LIFT THE PUCK!!!!!
Meanwhile in Tampa Danny G is showing middle fingers and laughing his azz off all the way to the bank while playing on the best team in the NHL.
oaferfive
It’s not a great save if they are sliding the puck into his pads.
Joe STFU!
Worst group of centers ever! Fire Gorton.
While 51 is playing well, Kreider and Miller should be with a bona fide top 6 pivot.
This roster is a hot mess.
Does anyone on this team scare the opponents right about now? Therein lies the problem.
Ron Greshner was a better Center than any of these Fakers
cmon boys – pot one here. Lift the puck!
Does Shattenkirk have a NMC?
0 fer 6
Haze is back to being too cute. Dilly Dally is more like it
Leafs are up 1-0 v. Kings
Go Leafs Go.
Great play by Zucc at Red Line…(s)
Henk wants out !
Looks like Hank might have strained his ego
Maybe Jacque Tu Tight?
Only 4 more years of Shattenkirk.
#22 gave us a discount? It wasn’t enough.
Hopefully hank is hurt. We could use the cap relief. Pavelec can’t be worse.
These will be The Dark Years.
I hate this team.
Fire Benoit Allaire!
Leafs up 2-0 PP Goal
Tor 2 LA 1
Kreider-Duchene- Miller
Nash-Zibanejad- Vesey
Grabner -Hayes-Zucc
Fast-DD-Buchnevich
Pavelic would be much worse
They’re gonna be kicking themselves in the ass for not trading certain guys earlier. We’d be lucky to get a 2nd round pick for Kreider soon enough.
man rebuilds are painful. hopefully it’s worth it.
More painful if Sather is still running the franchise.
Pound for pound, Rick Nash sucks.
true dat Slatsko
March 14, 1996 — Ray Ferraro traded by the New York Rangers, along with Ian Laperrière, Nathan LaFayette, Mattias Norström and New York’s 1997 fourth-round draft choice (Tomi Kallarsson), to the Los Angeles Kings in exchange for Jari Kurri, Marty McSorley and Shane Churla.
.
Whose idea was this?
The hourglass is half empty as AV’s time as a coach is coming to the end.
Plenty of time… Until april.
They’ve barely scored ANY goals in the third period so far this season; they’re not scoring 3 in this one. And if they did it’ll be done while giving up at least one more.
It’s not a “great shot” if it’s wide, Sam
I wouldn’t be surprised sather is still calling the shots behind the scenes because that Shattenkirk signing is sather-esk.
4 – zip
LMFAO!
The Shatty
Everybody seen enough? If we leave early we’ll beat the cr… Too late!
I’d love to see Sather behind the bench lol
If these were real fans they’d be booing them for the rest of the entire 17 mins.
dilly
Well at least Zibanejad is “red hot”
Smart move by Zibanajad not passing to Nash
Sounded like they turned the volume up on the goal song since there aren’t enough fans left to sound that loud.
Desharnais is not the fastest guy on the ice, is he?
These ranger fan commercials are awful. Bobby Granger hung himself.
Fast isn’t even fast.
Don’t think our record would be much different with Duchene in the lineup instead of Shattenkirk.
Can you ring my beeeeeeeEEEELLLLLLLLLLLLLLL?!
Bobby Granger was a legend! Love Bobby!
How does a team draw 6 more power plays than their opponent and be behind by 3 goals? It’s bewildering.
Too bad this team doesn’t have a 72 game road trip coming up.
Hayes is such a doosh
“We had some good looks. Just couldn’t capitalize. Good guys? Thanks.”
Leafs 3 LA 1
Foxwoods Final Five
Mercifully
You missed the apple!
What apple?
Ohhhh. No more little Grangers…
This is the first time in a long time that there’s absolutely no one on the team that couldn’t be part of a trade.
The only one safe from a trade is Lundqvist because no team is stupid enough to take on that contact.
10 feet in front and he missed the net. smh.
No time is a bad time for a Poulliot.
No one on this team knows to shoot from the sweet spot. They either shoot from too far away or too close in.
Rangers never poulliot in time…
If you decide to shoot it on a 2 on 1, you damn well better hit the net. Smh
wait, when kreider was hooked when the puck was on the goal line in the 1st period ref told AV the sharks stick was on the ice and it wasn’t a hook but miller gets called for hooking and his stick was on the ice, typical frigging nhl refs, so what isn’t a penalty for one team now is a penalty for the other.
If they actually called every penalty on San Jose they’d be 0-10.
Sometimes I feel like I have a better chance of seeing Bigfoot before I die than I do of seeing another championship
Go Leafs Go!
Yeah so, if you could not take a penalty in the first two minutes of the game, yeah, that would be great.
The only fans left are real Ranger fans. You could hear all 6 of them booing at the end.
2-8. Wow. What a start.
I’ll pack Hayes bags for him….. what a tool. Get his goofy a** off this team. Nash needs to go at the deadline…. I’ve seen all I need to see from Kreider. He’ll never be more than he is- a frustrating player who disappears for games at a time. Grabner is, well… the grabner we thought we were getting last year. Henrik is as good as done. 1 out of every 5 games are good, and that’s not acceptable. This team needs to be blown up for the future because they’re not making the playoffs anyhow as currently constructed…..
Sam: Those aren’t boos, Joe.
Joe: The hell they ain’t.
Tor 3 LA 2
I was going to ask if anyone knew if I could return my Center Ice package to my cable company but then I realized it was the only way I’d see any good hockey this season.
New versions of these Ranger Fan ads should be filmed in the stairwells of the Blues after a loss.
True Colors.
Man, that Valiquette is some screwball, but he’s better than Anson Carter.
Just caught up…coach gone yet?
Did anyone else just see Dustin brown steamroll gardiner?
Wow
Just noticed that our goaltender has no talent whatsoever for playing the puck , but he is young and just learning the position. That part of his game should improve as he matures.
LEAFS WIN!
Go Leaves Go!
If the rangers ever decide to do a rebuild instead of doing an annual retool while hank is under contract, I wonder what they’ll do with him?
Yeah, Coos… a few more seasons under his belt and he should definitely get better at handling the puck! Still so young!
LQ is just going to fade away.
Is there no one in our room who doesn’t fear Giannone other than Hank, Nash, and the Captain?
Man, this is some lame Press group, allowing AV to do his usual post game dipchit tap dance.
Craigweather, couldn’t agree more. My first choice to trade would be Kreider. A guy with all that talent, who only shows up occasionally, drags an entire team down. He is a cancer you have to remove. Hayes isn’t much better. It is time to tank for a few years and rebuild for real through the draft, like Pitt & Chicago did. Rebuilding on the fly won’t work.
Jeez, I don’t know what happened. All these current Rangers were budding superstars when they picked them up. They were all the final piece to the puzzle. All brilliant moves. All better than the guy they replaced. They got rid of all those bums, like Boyle, Stralman, Hagelin, Anisimov, Callahan, Talbot, Raanta, Brassard etc. We should be 8-2 not 2-8…
Unless somebody over-hyped the castoffs, failed first rounders, undrafted “gems” perennial AHL’ers, lousy draft picks we got for the players we traded away.
Could that be it? Naaaaaw.
Remember when Stepan went down with injury and the Rangers couldn’t win a game w/o him?
Rick Carpiniello @RickCarpiniello
I’ve seen this same game at the end of Herb Brooks, Ted Sator, Roger Neilson, Colin Campbell, John Muckler, Tom Renney, etc.
Cccp
No, and neither does anyone else lol.
😉
Well… I remember.
There isn’t a complete player on this team. Not one.
2-6-2 and almost at the top of the Salary Cap. Is somebody overpaid, or what?
And who did the overpaying? Come on, you can say it. They all know…
And who took apart a Stanley Cup Final team instead of adding to it to make it better? Who’s the genius on that one?
Who was it that outspent every other team in the pre-cap era, buying every free agent that came available, just to miss the playoffs four years running? Anyone remember that guys name?
And that’s a Slap-Slats hat trick.
Was out wirh the wife and just finished watching the debacle really not much to say that hasn’t been said already this team sucks! I know I’ve said said this earlier but Nash is done, Zook can go back to the Shire, the forwards stink, Hank is mediocre, and the D is useless. However we did get some good looks! Fire Bazooka Joe I am ready for a rebuild starting in the morning after my coffee!!!
Good news: Lower ticket prices on secondary market.
Bad news: you have to watch the game
they should let people in for free but make them pay to leave.
I’m not buying Ranger tickets. But I have doubled my booze budget.
I’ll be home soon. I’m still on the refund line at “The Worlds Most Henious Arena”. Been here since 8pm after the first period ended. Line was wrapped around the corridor 3x. Between Junk. Goalie. and losing Stepin and raanda. We stink! I gotta say, I’m not so sure I’m a big fan no more.
I don’t wanna hear any yous goofballs spellchecking me or stuff like that. I’m pissed. I’m getting a refund and I’m done with this stupid team and the stupid sport! This is why nobody here watches hockey. The teams and the sport sucks!
Stuck in parent conferences all day, was hoping not to see a step backwards when I emerged, but, alas, it appears the match did not go according to plan. These guys need an extended road trip badly, but don’t get one until January, by which time it appears there will be an all-new cast. Some potential wins on tap against the lousy Coyotes, Canadiens and the too-good-to-be-true Vegas, so anyone who wants to stay a Ranger should step forward. Keeping the faith, but…
Bernie Parent?
http://nypost.com/2017/10/24/tailspin-could-force-rangers-to-face-an-uncomfortable-reality/
Larry compares now to mid 70’s when the team waived Eddie and traded Ratelle and Park.
Drew doughty is such a wuss. I can’t stand that guy.
Not that it matters much, but Brooksie misstated Hank’s stats regarding SV% being under .900 in 6 of 9 starts. He is actually under .900 in 4 of 9 starts: Colorado (.880); Toronto (.706); Pittsburgh(.848); San Jose(.833). Other starts: Montreal (1.000); St.Louis(.909); Columbus (.952); NYI (.921); Nashville (.953). In the 5 games over .900 he’s at a cumulative .940/1.8gaa, but only came out with 2 wins which says to me he wasn’t the major issue in the losses. But the other 4 games he’s at .817/4.25 – woof. Granted the Toronto debacle skews those numbers but he can’t afford any more stinkers for awhile.
Good more morning Boneheads. Just thinking we have a young core of 6 or 7 forwards. Miller, Hayes, Vesey, Kreider, Buch, Zika, & Fast. Unfortunately they are a supporting cast with no one to support! The D & goaltending on the other hand? We all knew this day was coming.
I can’t wait for ilb to mention me in his game review today. 😁
Sportsnet analyst and NHL insider Elliotte Friedman made an appearance on Calgary’s Sportsnet 960 radio station to discuss the latest between Duchene and the Avs, where he made the admission that a new team has entered the mix: the New York Rangers.
“I don’t know. I think the Rangers have kind of waded back into that,” he said. “I think you might see some teams out there who are saying, ‘Well, maybe we’re more interested in the deal right now.’ I think the Rangers waded back into that. I don’t know if there’s a fit. I still think Duchene is getting traded. I just think it’s going to be a matter of when.”
Interesting. All the speculation the past few months has centered around the Montreal Canadiens, Columbus Blue Jackets, Nashville Predators and Boston Bruins. But a fresh offer from the Rangers might finally breathe new life into this stagnant situation.
Could the Rangers put together a package with blue liner Brady Skjei as the centrepiece? Sakic’s asking price is reportedly a defenseman, a prospect and a pick. Does Skjei, Lias Andersson and a pick get the job done? Or, is that too steep a price?

You got it, BDL 🙂
