The Rangers played the second of the back to back games against hated rivals the NY Islanders last night at MSG. The end result was the same (this time a 2-1 loss) but at least they were in the game until the end.
After a scoreless first with only 6 SOG by each time, very recently a NYR Soucy (4) opened the scoring at 17:18 of the 2nd. Less than two minutes later, rookie phenom Schaefer (14) scored the game winner at 18:53 through a very well screened Quick. The Rangers would get one back early in the third when Zibanejad (23) scored on the PP at just 02:48. Unfortunately, the Rangers were unable to get the game to OT despite have a few good chances.
Insult to injury, Schaefer mocked the Garden fans after the game, saying “Our fans are louder than theirs.” One brave reporter retored “But our fans have better cell phones!” ๐คฃ
Game summary below:

Next game is Saturday, 31 January at 3:30 PM on ABC against the Penguins. Minxmares!

Took a little longer than expected. The timing co-incided with our annual hosting plan renewal so a few things happening at same time. If you encounter any problems, post here or e-mail CCCP ๐
first back!
Panarin update? ๐คฃ๐คก
At this point just re sign Panerin for 4 years. Guy still has a lot in the tank.
Good to be back. Maybe we will find out soon what Drury has in the oven. Deep dish or thin crust?
Hopefully not one of those hard carboard ones with kale and other healthy toppings!
Corporal…Jerry wants a word with you!
Awesome Beeze! ๐ yes
Even in the dark years of rangers early 2000s and after the first letter I donโt recall them ever playing such an uninspired boring game filled with this many mistakes.
This is awful
Also. Worst goaltending stretch weve seen in a long long time. Maybe ever.
Ev
Youโre dead wrong on my take
Iโm Saying other teams should insist on picks. I absolutely would keep Mika rather than giving up picks to move him
What Iโm saying is itโs not the no move thatโs preventing a trade. Itโs the cost in terms of picks that would be part of the deal and I would absolutely not do that
Mika is a good player
Having an outstanding season
Plays all situations
We would not have to give up picks for this Mika. Especially with the cap going up. Heโs actually good value now. The end of the contract may be an issue.
If he doesnโt want to waive his NMC, that is more likely the reason we are not trading him.
Certainly just my opinion as none of us really know
I was very down on him last year. This year he proved me wrong and is having a renaissance. For that, I am able to change my opinion as last year I would have agreed we were stuck unless we paid a team to take him
“…after the first letter…”
One of my favourite records: wir – the first letter
Just like you can’t have a team full of Adam Fox, you don’t want a team full of today’s Mika either. But one Mika could be a very valuable addition to any contender, legit or bubble, especially with competent wingers.
Not to beat a dead horse too much, it was said Mika’s points are all on PP but they are 28 ES 21 P. Compare:
McDavid: 54/38
Rantanen: 37/28
Reinhart: 28/21
All nearly or the same ratio
Suzuki: 31/30 lower. Are they not good players? Would you need to give up picks or retain for Reinhart? He is 30 and has six years left at same cost as Mika.
In 22/23 when Mika had 50 ES 39 PP with 18 EVG and 20 PPG was that bad?
I’M BAAACK! I can blog again!
Doing jail time has never been sweeter… or something like that.
Sauer update?
Coos update?
Spasibo, Beezle!
Playing with a $50M cap team now.
What was with trading Soucy to Azzdancers and deciding now to sit Bread with back to backs. Dreary trolling Ranger fans
Ultimate troll will be if he trades bread to isles
“Ultimate troll will be if he trades bread to isles”
For Soucy.
Panarin update: lots of day drinking and stickhandling with his dog
Panarin is the luckiest dude on earth right now. Gets paid to sit at home, scrolling through Zillow site for a new home in San Jose. The weather is great there.
Do you know the way to San Jose? I’ve been scratched so long I won’t play for this team another day
First.
Drury is like a 5 year old with the car keys.
I have it on relatively good sourcing Panarin also likes to ride motorcycles. Hopefully he’s smart enough not to be doing that kind of thing now!

Wonder if Panarin is going to drag this out right up to the break?
Beezle,
I would think he would. If he was traded today, the team acquiring him is going to want him to play in whatever games they have left before the break. Join the Caps (example), play a game or two, come back to NY, and start the move. Or wait till the break, and do it all at once.
Beezle
Me too. But I really think the major issue is an extension and which teams can and will do it, and which one of those teams he’s willing to go to. Also most GM’s believe Drury to be butt stupid by his track record so they will try to fleece him. Worse case scenario for me is he goes to the pens and Rangers wind up with Malkinstein ugh!
I think Panarin will drag it out until no one will budge and see if anything shakes out that he likes. He’s getting paid to do nothing at this point. How long does bubble wrap last?
This isn’t like the Kaprizov situation. This isn’t a one on one negotiation. All the potential suitors have limited assets and want to get something done. It doesn’t have to be Panarin. If they make their best offer and Panarin doesn’t take it they will move on to other options. I assume anything they put on the table will be time sensitive. There is also the Ranger nightmare scenario in which he doesn’t see a situation he likes and say I’ll wait to 7/1 when I have 32 teams to talk to and they don’t have to give up anything to get me. The term and dollars won’t go down in the Summer and their is more of a chance that a bidding war might give him the 5X12 he has floated. The full NMC allows for that possibility. If this goes to the Olympic break I would start to worry about Drury coming up empty. Recall that he got played by Trouba over the Summer before he finally traded him. He has stepped on his d!ck before.
The trade freeze starts on the 4th at 3PM EST. Caps at home on 5th against Preds and LAK on road against VGK.
Never mind all that Panarian stuff. Our boys in blue have a game to mess up today. Remember the good old days when a game vs Pitt would be fun to watch and comment on.
Worst case is Drury winds up with bupkis except egg on his face. He has no leverage and is essentially asking Panarin to do him a solid. Why would he do that given how some of his teammates were treated in the last couple of years. There is a human side to these things.
ORF is right, as usual. Both last posts.
What is Drury’s track record of getting fleeced?
what are the admission requirements to the U of St Pete Eli besides pragmatic fatalism and an unflinching dislike of the Penguins?
He has leverage because he still has the top scorer available this deadline…and there is nothing close. Teams that need power play help will come calling. Just hoping this deal is with teams that extend him like SJ, Detroit, Caps or Canes
Drury does have leverage if things get contentious. Tell Panarin you are going to play him.
Pragmatic fatalism lmao!
Letang -> IR Malkin -> ? Rust -> cooler
Interesting but sad story

Weird to have a bye week until the 5th and then have Olympic break. Dumb to have to come back for 1 game
Berard sent down

I thought they might. I liked him in his draft year. Protects them if they trade Schneider (short term), or if Fox continues to be out.
Shneids replacement post Olympic break
Anyone else think Mackey should be playing over vak9n?
