The Rangers were unable to slay the prehistoric creature in Utah before getting stomped on. A decidedly not good road trip, three losses and four in a row. And like the Avs game before, this one was tied up 2-2 until mid third period. 😢
The Rangers gave up the first goal of the night to Peterka (9) at 10:08 of the first when he poked the puck home behind quick while Lafreniere watched and Panarin went to hide behind the goal line. Not sure what those two were thinking there. The first period was saved though when Gavrikov (3) tipped a Fox (16) shot from near the point to tie the game at one just before the buzzer. Zibanejad (8) with the secondary. 1-1 after one.
The pace of play was not especially fast in the first and that continued in the second which would also see a precipitous drop in Ranger shots, from 12 to 3. Yet, very efficient as Panarin (6) would put one that appeared stopped but then dribbled out behind Vejmelka and crossed the goal line. 2-1 NYR at 08:07. But Utah would continue to press and Keller (8) tied the game at 2-2 with a snapshot at 11:15 from about three feet from the corner of the goal while three NYR watched in a nice little arc behind him. No sugar coating: the team left Quick out to dry all night and were not for his heroics t his game would have ended 7-2.
So once again the NYR go into the third with a shot for at least a point if not two. Only to fail to really pick up the pace or effort – seven shots. DeSimone (2) scored unassisted from near the high slot, picking up a clearing attempt that deflected off a NYR skate. 3-2 Mammoths. The final two or so minutes were the Benny Hill show trying to get Quick off the ice for the 6-5 only to take a penalty shortly after.
Game summary below:

The Rangers return home to MSG for a tilt on Monday at 19:00 EST against St Louis. Telecast by MSG2, NHLH and FDSNMW.

So.. in catching up. Panarin was atrocious defensively, Laffy right with him. In the case of Panarin I actually think he is trying to play himself off the team. At least LaCoast showed some emotion when their goalie made a great save on one of his … two…shots.
Feel bad for Quick. Once again, he’s not just making run of the mill saves, some of those were stand on your head saves. Squandered.
This team does not want to win. As I asked in the game thread – why can they skate full bore when its the Avs but then drop to 3/4 or 1/2 speed against lesser teams? That to me epitomizes the effort level. You know you can do better but don’t because 🤷♂️
Panarin never played defense and was usually a ghost in the playoffs. Rangers can’t get him off this team fast enough for me.
It happened again! A new post as I was typing.
Repost:I view Sully as being like Tom Renney when he took over 2005-2006 and reestablished structure and discipline. Those teams got Hank, Jagr and the Czech posse added over the next couple of season and became respectable and watchable. It’s clear now that Igor<<Hank and no one is going to gift a Jagr to Drury. The path to a watchable team may be longer this time, but if Slats could do it maybe Drury can. Hank brought them from 27th in GA to 4th in his first year. Jagr, Nylander and Hossa were the only players to score 10 goals that year. They made the playoffs. They were a bubble team until Torts came along(2010-2011) and they added younger players that they became contenders. That's 5 years but they could be watchable in 1 or 2. That's my optimistic take. The Sabres are my pessimistic take.
A team that doesn’t have an identity just mirrors the opponents pace of play is my guess.
Moldy Bread – 27 shifts 1 SoG
Mondays game vs a weak Blues team is a must win.
Last place with games in hand
Dreary is not Going to let this ruin his Thanksgiving
BTW – I really hate writing a negative post game but honestly, was there anything good last night? I guess EV would say they had more than 19 SOG.
As to Sheary, he does try but either his deal with the devil ran out or he is cursed. Guy can’t buy a goal.
Gavrikov got the goal on deflection but he tied Panarin for team lead with four give aways (that scorer noticed)
One more:
Also if they got the first pick don’t take McKenna. He’s a 170 lb. winger. Trade down if someone wants him and pick a center or true #1 D to build a team around like Tampa did with Stamkos and Hedman. Then they can move on from Fox as his contract runs out.
SN spot on – what is the NY Ranger identity?
That question will yield interesting responses
Compliments of GGMM:
Mika Zibanejad: “I feel like we’re disconnected. I think we’re too far away from each other. It’s a lot of one-and-dones in the O-zone, try to get on the forecheck, it’s one guy, one guy, one guy. We don’t come up with five together and I just feel like we’re a bit late everywhere.”
coach Mike Sullivan on tonight: “I thought we got outplayed.”
Does the team need to have more urgency, especially given the way things have been going?
“I just didn’t think, for whatever reason, we had the juice, the energy. If you don’t bring a certain amount of energy to the game, it’s hard. Today’s game is fast, and that’s a young, fast team. I just didn’t think we won a whole lot of foot races, and I didn’t think we won a lot of puck battles. When you don’t win foot races or puck battles, you don’t tend to have the puck. I felt like that was the case for a lot of the night.”
Rangers solidly in the hunt for the 160lb string bean Penn State LW from Whitehorse.
I’ve watched McKenna a bit for Penn State. His line mates are not capable of playing with him. He reminds me quite a bit of Patrick Kane.
ORF, it’s supposed to be a strong draft, and I agree with your idea of center, D man ( strong D draft), but I’d be very careful about passing up McKenna.
Carpe found this one: Will Cuylle: “I feel like we’ve got to get more pucks to the net, more guys in the crease and maybe bang in some dirty goals since the pretty ones aren’t working right now.”
Generic hockey player preprogrammed answers. Its genetic isn’t it?
some large canadian Dmen, and another large Roobroeck center in the top-ten for 2026?
maybe it is all part of Drury plan to make himself look smart for selecting to trade last year’s pick instead of this year!
But Carey we have all 165lbs of Artyom Gonchar already waiting for his chance! 5G 4A, -16 in 21 games for Sudbury.
Artyom needs to hit the peloton and drop a couple of 6 pounds there
Well, if they don’t screw it up they do have two firsts, right? So could be a top 3 pick and something nearer 25
wwpd, I’d be shocked if he could get up to 180 by the time he is 21. Just does not look like he has the body type to put much more on than that. Maybe 185 if they juice him a litte 😉
Rangers have their own pick and Dallas in round 1, the Mamut have rangers 2nd round pick, but rangers have carolina’s. Plus whatever they pick up before the deadline.
Our second that we don’t have is really like a late first
It’s that bad
They really need to begin the fire sale forthwith. The longer they wait the greater the depreciation of those they need to jetison. This is truly a case of needing to destroy the village to save it. The Rangers are a rotting structure that needs a complete remake. Also Dreary needs to go…I doubt he has any conception of how to build a winner. Its a lot different than making pizza.
Blues beat Azzdancers 2-1 yesterday so no easy games
Lousy road trip..time for a trade?
The root of the problem with this organization is the owner. Until he sells the team we are screwed as fans. I have no hope with Drury as GM. Honestly I’m getting fed up with complaining. Deep down I know it is never going to change until the hard drive is wiped clean, and the whole freaking thing rebooted.
Hide drurys phones
There the only way to keep the picks
Lava with another good game on the dot
Thanx, Beez, for hangin’ in there every day…
Not gonna be a fire sale in November…most teams need cap, space to bring in players
Valley:
Just watched 1st period on msg replay. Utes got away with a lot of hooking and interference.
Morrow is meh
Mika had at least 3 giveaways in that period;
Morrow with a week backhand strong side clogged with 3 Utah jerseys
NHL dmen don’t do that
I’m no longer angry
I’ve reached the acceptance part of grief in regards to this travesty of a team
Would imagine that anyone with nmc would love to waive it at this point to get off the sinking ship
Make some calls. Take some calls.
Would anyone do this trade?
TOR: Nylander -> NYR
NYR: Panarin, Morrow, CAR (1st), 2nd -> TOR
Or
DAL: Seguin + low cap player -> NYR
NYR: Panarin + 3rd -> DAL
Nylander 4 years younger
Seguin keeps us too old
Crazy difference between the rangers top draft picks and the devils
Luck of the draw or lack thereof
Did kaako even play last night? He was invisible
Beezle, neither. Rangers need to keep there picks. Nothing is going to fix this team. Best case scenario at trade deadline off load what you can for more assets. Apparently the 2026 draft supposed to be a good one.
TommyG….exactly what they should do. Therefore, they will do the opposite.
They rally do need to offload and accumulate draft capital and young talent. Let’s hope they do it right.
I don’t think Toronto does that deal
The other one is iffy
Get seguin for 1 more year
This place is more depressing than the games
BobbyO, it’s called reality, unfortunately.
I may be overreacting to LAF and KK as consensus picks. If McKenna puts up numbers like Eichel and Celebrini did at BU keep the pick. If he puts up James Hagens number consider your options.
Not sure what the reality is here other than despair and nothing can be done
Doing nothing is better than killing the future even more by trading more picks
I’d also be fine with letting bread walk
Better than 5 more years starting age 35 at 10 or 12 million per
Either he’s gonna trade all the picks to squeak into playoff to please Dolan.., or he will make bad picks if he keeps them…or he will ruin the picks if they are good by not developing them …is that a good summary?
Have to be in it to win it re the draft
So not a good summary
When the universe gifted NYC two lottery wins, it made sense to try to accelerate a retool rather than endure a 5-year bottoming process. Unfortunately management has proven formidably mixed, at best, since then.
What’s the rationale now?
Saw this clip on Aspinall
https://x.com/OHLHockey/status/1992590206017360150/video/1
Just trying to show some positivity. Aspinall has 31 pts. (14 goals) in 21 games. He’s 6-7 /195. Hopefully he fills out. A left shot/LW.
Drury and Sully, assuming he is onboard, need to sell a rebuild to Jimmy D or they will get tossed. Might not be the worse thing depending on who replaces them.
Here is quick 4 step plan for Rangers to build for a real future.
Mission #1 – FIRE DRURY!!!
Mission # 2 – New Gm with a clue trades the dead wood for Prospects and picks – Start with Panarin, Laf, Miller, Zbad
Mission #3 – Fire entire Scouting staff before next draft.
Mission # 4- Fire Development Coaches before next draft.
Blues just beat red hot Isles team in dreaded first game back from a road trip. How can we expect ice cold lazy Rangers to to beat Blues in first game back from road trip, especially when they stink at MSG. Another loss closer to a lottery pick.
Aspinall showing some good patience and skill with the puck control
Only one lottery win ..and it was the wrong one
ORF thanks for the Aspinall clip!
Bobbyo
Unfortunately they should have taken Stutzle.
#Isles Injury Update: Alex Romanov is out 5-6 months. He will have shoulder surgery.
The Department of We Don’t Care About Player Safety
Rantanen actually gets one game suspension. Why? Because he got two misconducts before game #41 so it is automatic. I’m shocked DPS didn’t try to waive it.
Freidman:
Alexandar Georgiev is on waivers for contract termination. Per @HockeyNewsHub
, he is en route to Spartak in KHL
GGMM just now:
Can only assume that means Quick is unavailable for at least one game as a result of the hit that, accidental or not, no NYR bothered to take exception to.
Win twice
To move up to 1 and 2
Berard is ready to tear it up
Just think 2 years ago when we had the best team in hockey: 50% of our line combinations #10, 16, 13 & 20, 93 & 26 represented maybe 65% of our scoring. What a difference 2 years makes. Me thinks we had these Players in their prime
Berard will get into a game if they follow their past pattern. Miller is out for at least another game? Put Berard in for Sheary. Similar player who is 10 years younger.
Prime -> Select … completely bypassed Choice
McKenna is on a pace for ~45 pts. Eichel had 71, Celebrini 64 and Hagens 37 pts. They usually pick it up in the 2nd half as they acclimate. Let’s see where he winds up. Hagens dropped to #7
If Sheary sits I will be very surprised
Bet sully continues to crush parsnips confidence and pruchas him at every turn
Kakko + Chytil played a total 13 games so far
Sheary won’t sit, he does the little things so well
SN
With little effect!
Don’t like a lot of decisions Sullivan has been making. Is it possible that this early in the season that he’s losing the team.
Bread flat….. but still leading the team in scoring.
Rempe 10 min a game isn’t world changing, but you have to wonder if the momentum shifts that 4th line creates when he’s on it with Endstrom and the energy and forecheck/hitting that occurs , would that have made a bit of difference ? Sometimes, it’s a few little things like that which can add up and change the overall game.
This team lacks his energy and enthusiasm
What/who they miss is, Goodrow, Trouba, and Kreider. The 3 leaders of the team in the past. Right now they have no leadership. 23,10, and 93 aren’t leaders, and 16 is full of crap. 8 tries, but this isn’t his team. 32 is trying, but it’s difficult to do when you play every 4th game, and leading from the crease.
Panarin is the leader of the team he leads in points and sidewinder passes to the opposition.
maybe they led in the past but not last season
Rempe and Edstrom have the speed to get in on the forecheck and play the body as much as possible; the impact is not on the scoresheet but in possession time and ability to wear down D.
The third line was the bigger question mark coming into season and Lava has provided everything they need from a 3C; the primary issue is top 6 inability to score.
It is not a coincidence that both Anaheim, and SJ are much improved this year, and the Rangers are free falling.
If you think they can’t score now wait until they trade Bread for that 3rd rounder everyone thinks he’s worth
Goodrow has 3 points and is minus 6
The comment was about leadership, not points.
Think any Sharks success has more to do with Celebrini
Celebrini, Misa and Smith are their young core. They have tons of retained salary and Cary Price’s contract to shed over the next two years. They could buy some more pieces. The team is very thin.
I think multiple things can be right at the same time. The 4th when it was E/C/R drove o-zone time and made life a little miserable for opposition. The sad thing was…that was the leadership. Too much talk not enough walk (skate) from guys in the top six. Need to lead by example and too many of theirs are bad ones.
Have mentioned before – they need to get the “big guns” off the PK. Mika leads with 45:24, JT 41:20. Carrick 34:01 and Cuylle 32:03. Tro would have big minutes if not for the injury.
Fine with Carrick, less so with Cuylle while in top six. Laba has 21:05, Raddysh 19:20. Sheary 11:32 and the rest zilch.
Raddysh and Sheary at the least should be getting a lot more time – 328 and 616 games – they should have a clue (btw, shocked that LaCoast has almost 100 more games than Raddysh)
I would not put the top six guys out there until the very end of the PK if the opportunity presented itself.
Having injured/hobbled JTM on the pk in this first stretch was just insanity; it requires the most lateral movement which puts strain on the legs.
Very dumb if you are hoping to get a
Player back to full speed with a hamstring/groin issue.
We are 0.001 above Toronto for least in East, sixth from bottom in league. Current w/c line is about 0.595 meaning NYR are six pts behind the required pace.
There are 19 games left this calendar year meaning they need 48-50pts to be at that level or win 13 or 14 of those games. I’d say 8 of those games are against competition they should be able to beat.
This will be the stretch that determines if there is any hope of being a bubble team or one that is at the bottom, where they are now.
You might come here to the Garden one Sunday on a whim.
Say your life broke down. The last good body check
you saw was months ago.
Once the town of top hockey, towering blondes, good jazz and booze
the world will never let you have again
until some day…some day…
Trouba, Kreider, even Goody are not play drivers any more but perfect complements for a team with younger talent that needs structure and support off the ice as much as on.
NYR does not have any play drivers below the age of 30 and few in the pipeline. Based upon initial games; Lava can be that kind of player; ceiling keeps going up.
My 9:02 post was pour sarcasm at it’s best.
The real issue with the top 6 is they’re just not that good.
They were once bold
Now they’re too old
Should all be sold
It’s high time to fold
This was supposed to LAF’s and KK’s team now with Bread and others having lesser roles. That didn’t happen and we’re dealing with the lack of a plan B. Drury has been improvising and so far it’s not working. They have to come up with a new plan and maybe let the fans in on it.
Drury’s plan is pulling 🐇 out of a 🎩
Vince has an article up on the Athletic that pretty well summarizes everything we have been saying.
It’s been a year since Drury put up his for sale sign and…”The bumbling Blueshirts were thoroughly outplayed in three consecutive losses to the Vegas Golden Knights, Colorado Avalanche and Utah Mammoth — and though coach Mike Sullivan lamented a lack of “collective effort” after Saturday’s 3-2 loss to the Mammoth, New York’s bigger issue is a lack of collective talent. ”
.
TANK! TANK! AND TANK!
My first year as a Ducks fan is going great.
My 30th year as a Rangers fan? Not so much…
Sheary is in the lineup tonite, just in case anyone wasn’t sure. This could be the night when he tickles the twine
we’re all pulling for you Conor!
he must be greeeeatt in the room!
Trouba to Kreider, “ have you seen the Rangers record?” Kreider “ no, what is it? Trouba, “10 and 13”. 😂
7 regulation wins in 23 games.
Hearing Trocheck is gametime? Could explain why they brought up the forward though does this mean Brodude is centering Bread?
ORF
NY’s bigger issue, a lack of collective talent. I could not have said it and clearer than that. Add to that a low hockey IQ and you have the ideal recipe for the lottery.
Had to wing the go-time, seems the hockey press took the day off. Look for it at the usual time.
