The Rangers are all but mathematically eliminated after another low effort game against Tampa Bay. The game was for all intents over at 14:54 of the first period – in the preceeding 1:45 they gave up three goals, two of them PPG. The only NYR score came off Zibanejad’s misplaced skate early in the second period. Didn’t matter. Tampa would get another PPG and an ENG in the third. The only NYR line that showed any interest in the game at all was, you guessed it, the fourth line of Othmann, Brodzinski and Rempe.
To not even really try is really disturbing. What is going on in the room that nobody knows or if they do, are too scared to report? IDK. Lafreniere endeared himself once more by getting a 10 minute misconduct for mouthing off to one of the refs.

Thanks for the post game write up. They don’t deserve it. I was extremely dejected after the Rangers shut out loss to the bolts in 2015. But this season ownership, management, scouting, coaching, and the cotton candy crew has been the worst for me because I have no hope for the future. I am beyond broken! The Minx has Spoken!

One can debate the Kreider situation and the drama and bad juju that went into it. I’m at a loss though to explain not just Lafreniere’s performance but the obvious bad vibes on ice. Management better figure that one out in a hurry, he’s more important going forward than anything with Zibanejad.

Kreider gets a lot of heat, but outside of Henk, who has been the best Ranger in the past 2 decades? I presume the best record he may have is most playoff wins in a Rangers Sweater; but didnt’ look it up, he has to be near the top.
This season is one to forget for many reasons; players and fans alike, but only one of these two groups was getting paid millions to play a game.
Not a fan of Dreary who has squeezed almost all of what he had inherited with no real plan or upgrades to allow fans to look forward to the future. We’ve always thought the center position was the most important but his roster has many but still can’t produce wins.
‘Culture eats strategy for breakfast’ and this team/franchise has a real cultural problem starting from the top of the house; JD and filtering into the front office, down the bench and into the locker room.

So was just looking at some stats. Eichel is finally having the kind of season that approaches expectations for $10M per season, though I’d like to see a few more goals than current 27. I’d say the prior three you have to give the edge to Mika, this one of course to Eichel, who has one year left on the contract.
Would things have been different with him? Maybe not especially when you factor in the extra 1.5 of cap and what it would have removed from prior years teams and the “good” Mika years. This season? We’d be in playoffs but not sure he’d make up for the other deficiencies (and again, the extra cap hit filtering down). Seems the ultimate value for NYR would have been next season.
And knowing the boneheads there would have been much keveching about the $10M guy only getting 65ish pts.

They closed part of that loophole. ELC is the same regardless of FA or not. In Perreault case, he was still two college seasons away from being a UFA. College players can be FAs if they have not signed a NHL contract 4 years after graduating high school.

I cringe everytime I hear that Perreault ‘left BC after his sophomore year.’ Sophomore year doesn’t end in March! I yoosed to follow Seton Hall basketball and, multiple years, they had a couple few ‘students’ from Europe. Each time they were ousted from March Madness, they returned home, not back to campus, then returned in September to play ball and graduated on time, skipping both a couple months of classes and, of course final exams. Scamerooni.
