The Rangers played a fairly good game through the first fifty minutes and led the Sens 3-1. Over the next 10:17 they choked two points away by once again turtling and not showing enough compete level against another squad with a similar or better record.
That this happened at all is on both the players and the coaching staff. The Bettman point helps to keep them still in the hunt for either WC1 or WC2, but they will need to take two points from the many better teams left on their schedule and not just hope that OTT, CBJ, DET and MTL lose as well.
The scoring summary is below:

The Rangers complete an odd back to back at home during your dinner hours against WC1 Columbus Blue Jackets, Sunday at 18:00 EST. MSG, TVAS, SN and FDSNOH will have the telecast.

If Peca or Mise is the next coach ..get rid of Lav and Housley now
Repost-you got me again with the New Post.
I just looked back at the 2020 draft to see where LAF would rate now. He probably still a top 5 pick and certainly top 10. You can make a case that Stutzle (3OA) is the best player and he almost literally skated circles around LAF yesterday. Lucas Raymond(4OA) has performed better as well. Anton Lundell (12OA) Seth Jarvis (12OA) and Dawson Mercer (18OA) are also in the mix. A case can also be made for John-Jason Peterka (34OA) and Brock Faber (45OA). I wonder if the teams that have those players would trade them even up for LAF. We put too much stock in the 1OA tag. Most years it does prove out that the consensus 1OA winds up being the best player from the draft.
Yesterday’s game was a repeat of the last couple where they just don’t have enough guys willing to push back and claim the center of the ice. Meeka and Bread scored so they’re great, right? Ummmm, no.
These are the type of players who do not take you to the Cup Finals; they are at their VERY BEST in regular season. And save for individual playoff stats for someone who cares; because the best stat is series won and big games by your big money players.
Shesty kept them in this one until the high quality scoring chances overwhelmed them. New guys look good on backline but incumbents are NG; Miller-lite is a defensive liability.
Drury had a chance during the deadline to remove some more of the pretender prancers. Like to players he is bringing in, but much, much more work to be done.
And this team is going nowhere if Lazy Laffy is showcasing his future form. What the Fugg is that all about!!
The 2019 draft is a little different. Hughes is at this point the best player form that draft, but his injury history may ultimately limit him. Matt Boldy(12OA) may eventually have a better career. Kakko may still be top ten. I would put Cozens(7)A, Seider (6OA), Bowen(4OA), Zegras (9OA), Caulfield (15OA), Hartley(18OA). I don’t think any of those guys get traded even up for Kakko. The draft is a crap shoot and they didn’t roll a 7 in either one.
This Ranger group over the last few seasons under different coaches has had no answer when their opponent steps up the pressure and intensity. They folded multiple times in the playoffs under pressure and now they are doing it in the regular season as the games become more important and the opponents bear down.
The “Worlds Best Goalie” was great in the first and so so after that. His rebound control was bad on the 2nd and 3rd goals and the GWG went trough him. He got beat by a guy with a $5M cap hit. That will be the story for the next 7 years as his play will start to tail off from what is uneven and statistically mediocre right now.
I think I will eat my dinner before tuning in to watch tonight’s debacle. As Drury might say-I won’t let them ruin my dinner.
Seider, Boldy, Hughes and the rest of R1 are TBD.
Hoglander (R2/40)Dorofevev (R3/79), Protas (R3/91), Micelli (R4/99), Spence (R4/95), Voronkox (R4/114) will have better careers than most of the R1.
Zachy Jones picked (R3/68); what a joke
Interesting that Boldy is not any faster than Busto, and really the skill levek not any better either. It just reveals the difference heart, determination, and will to win makes. Busto lacks them all.
Dreary sez he thinks this team has what it takes, then he leaves 12 million on the table the rest of this season, money that will automatically fly away next season on expiring contract re-signings. Who’s kidding whom?
Kakko fetched borgen and two late picks. No way any GM trades any of those other guys for Borgen. Lafren also no way brings back anyone for your lengthy 2020 redraft list, same names I mentioned yesterday. Maaaybe Faber depending on positional need.
Dogs’ Breakfast * for faithful boneheads this morning.
*term origin: in Great Britain, after the Pubs closed late AM, there would be puke all over the streets of London. People let their dogs out at 6 to enjoy the feast.
Now that the last of the ski guests have made the 12 PM checkout, I need a nap. Need to be well rested to be able to throw things at the TV at 6pm 😉
Only dyslexics throw a nap at the TV. You need a pan.
Said it way back when – extending Laffy when they did was unnecessary and a mistake. Should have let him play out the season to see if he could duplicate the prior and actually improve other elements of his game. If he equaled or improved, ok maybe you pay a little bit more on the extension but you would also feel far more confident it was a good decision. Now? Not so much.
Assuming he plays all 82, he’s on a pace for 18 G 27 A 45 Pts. In 21/22 he had 19 G and a 17.3% S%, last season 28 G 12.9% S% and this season the S% is down to 10.7%, career low. Another stat – shot attempts making it on goal: 57% in 21/22, 54.3% in 23/24 and now again, career low 51.4%. At 63 games, he has exceeded his career high give aways (set in 81 games) with 38 so far and his net tk/gv went from +18 last season to -17 this season (so far).
I hope JT can give him a swift kick in the can enough times that he decides to actually play up to his abilities instead of just going through the motions.
I know I have said this a few times. I really think Busto wants out of NY. The poor baby is home sick.
Moma I just lost the puck
It slipped right off my stick
Making all the boneheads sick.
Moma I don’t want to skate
Wanna leave it all behind and just go home.
MSG fans would be too busy on iPrecious to even notice review
It’s not Drury that’s the problem; it’s the freeken coach Lavrioltte. What a horrendous job in misusing the players on this team. Too much time given to the slow gore players. As I said in an earlier post we play not to lose and we lose. We need to play faster an f dictate the play boost of the youngsters. Knocked wrist must be bothering as he’s blown too many opportunities. Kreiker is not ready yet. May not be. When we were up 3-1 we needed speed with some decent neutral zone checking and takeaway. We have a multi talented team that our coaching staff is misusing.
Shot Attempts/SoG/Goals
Bread – 448/186/26 – 14%/5.8% (gross shooting %)
TSA/SoG/G
Meeka 285/138/13 – 9.4%/4.5%
Not sure how this tracks league wide but seems like the lack of shots either getting through or being actually on goal is a problem
SN: Hockey-reference has
Mika: 288 TSA, 48.6% on goal, 14 G
Bread: 455 TSA, 41.5%, 27G
In case of Bread, lowest % getting on goal in his career, makes LAF % look good by comparison. Lowest for Mika as well ignoring initial call up in 11/12. Had a long stretch in the upper 50s.
Oddly enough, Tro 77 pts last season came on 48.2% shots making it on goal. Season so far 54.3%, career 56.7%. Notable though is his 45.7% while on PP, a 9pt drop from career 54.9%.
Kreider 59.6%, up from 55.9% last season. Career 59.3% of his shots get on goal.
Small JT Miller NYR sample, 43.5% vs 54.3% w/ VAN this season. Career 56.3 but dropped to 51.6% last season.
Lest we forget, paucity of shots inevitably limits THE’s usefulness.
They can’t be true contenders until the Huggy
Twins are gone but they can still make playoffs and win a round if the devils and or canes continue to drop
Well, I suppose the Rangers could win all the odd games in a 7 game series to advance a round 🤔
The go-time is at 5:55 PM EDT. Don’t be late, move your clock before its too late!
Is there ever gonna be a hockey talk show on TV I mean other than the NHL channel if there were I think they would do very well
Presume the NHL network has something in that vein but I’ve never watched the channel
I watched the Avs – Leafs game last night. A vast difference from watching the Rangers when it comes to speed, determination and compete level. Rangers are equivalent to a ECHL or PWHL team when compared to the top contending teams in NHL.
Understand a lot of anger at our GM for not making more moves at the deadline. But just maybe other GM’s saw the way we were playing and did not want any of our guys. Think about it. Zib has a lot of teams on no move clause, Kreider is hurt and a shell of what he was, Laffy gives up almost all the time, and a perfect example of who Miller is was his bonehead play in overtime.
Maybe just like The Who;other GM’s “won’t get fooled again”
Even if we could have moved on from 1 or two of these guys: do any of you think this team is a Stanley Cup contender?
I know I don’t. Oh well. Which team shows up tonight? LGR
