The Rangers will attempt to regroup after getting spanked by the Sabres yesterday afternoon. The Penguins are another team below them in the standings that they must take two points. There will be a very, very dark cloud over this team and organization on Monday morning if they do not at least play a highly competitive game.
The NYR are 5-5-0 their last 10, the Penguins are 4-5-1, having been treated by Washington yesterday the same way the Sabres treated the Rangers. Does either team want to do more than play out the last twenty-ish games?
Line-up wise: Quick (3.09 GAA, 0.897 SV%) is likely in net for the Rangers and Blomqvist for the Pens (3.68 GAA, 0.893 SV%). As to the rest of the line-up: 🤷♂️ At this time there is no official word so we’ve gone with a hybrid of CBJ and BUF games. Perhaps Lavi will go radical and Prucha’ Brodzinski, move Carrick to 3C and move Rempe to 4C. Update: Kreider out with UBI, day to day. Shesterkin in net.

Keys to a Ranger victory: They lost the keys and better find them fast.

NYR are not the only team that does this, it seems like most of them do so these days with their #1 and even #2 picks. Same with NFL – there is no more “sit on the bench and learn”. And have given up the same amount of shots they usually get over a full 60 minutes.
The Rangers best plays this period have been icing the puck.
Trochek, with a chance to hold the puck and control the play in the offensive zone, goes behind the net and throws a no look Panarin pass to the pens.
Does Fox even care anymore?
Even if the Rangers somehow win this game, how does Laviolette not lose his job with 2 straight games of this effort??!!

EV on the first goal looking at the replay Vaakanainen was doing the right thing, Malkin being 6’5″ was able to reach around to get his stick out for the tip. Can’t fault the effort, way better than Fox dippsy doing around the corner of the net.

They need to win enough so that the Pens get the pick this year and they need to trade someone for a first at the deadline.
Kreider is untradeable right now. The Bruins took Rick Nash. No one will be that dumb again. Unless his back improves over the offseason he will be in and out of the lineup next season and then retire. He has never had the fire in his belly. He’s made a lot of money and will happy to move on and do something else.
How is Drury supposed to get multiple guys to waive NMCs in the next 10 days? He has to concentrate on the doable. Pending UFAs: Smith , Lindgren, Vesey, maybe Urho V. (RFA) He should also use the cap space to facilitate other teams and get picks. Leave the heavy lifts to the offseason.
