The Rangers defeated the visiting Golden Knights at the Garden last evening and Jonathan Quick finally secured his 400th win, the most by an American born goalie. Quick is 15th on the all-time win list and can move up to 12th with only eight more victories. Congrats and glad you could do it as a Ranger!
As to the game itself, the Rangers were on their heels a bit for much of the first two periods, being outshot 29 to 16, 14-7 in the first period alone. However, they managed to avoid complete disaster in the early stages and the first goal of the game came very late in the 1st at 19:41 on a VGK PP when Eichel (17) was able to take advantage of a screen to hammer one past Quick from high in the slot. No doubt, Vegas knows how to run a power play, very impressive puck movement. 1-0 VGK after one period of play.
The Rangers would regroup between periods and had a bit more jump to start the period. The result was a quick NYR goal from Lafreniere (14) at just the 1:18 mark on a nice cross ice pass just below the blue line from Fox. All tied at one. The only other scoring of the period would come at 09:16 when Eichel (18) would get his second of the night after being waved through the blue line by a back pedaling Fox and Trocheck. The Rangers continue to be adverse to making any effort to shut down, or at least make more difficult, play through the neutral zone. 2-1 VGK after two.
At this point, many fans were starting to think about the trip home from MSG or what else was on the tele. Not unreasonable give the past few games and the play of much of the season. Tonight, though, would be different.
For unknown reasons, former Ranger and now Vegas star Howden decided to pull down Rempe for a two minute interference call, putting the NYR on the PP early in the third. Zibanejad, much maligned (with justification) this season, managed to keep the puck in the offensive zone which led to a goal, Zibanejad (10) driving to the paint to put in the loose puck off a JT Miller shot from the circle. All tied 2-2 at 05:04 of the third.
Given that the NYR were playing the second of a back to back, it was a little surprising to see them pick up speed while Vegas faltered. Third period shots would favor the Rangers 12-7 and their next goal would come at 11:33 when the other Miller (4), KAM, would put a bullet from the circle past Hill on a pass from below the goal line by Zibanejad. 3-2 NYR and looking to hold on another 8:27!
Panarin (22) would ice the game with a PPG at 18:19 (assisted by that Mika guy), putting the Rangers up 4-2, the final score of the game.
Notes: Zibanejad had one of his best games of the season. Did he cut his hair? Cuylle had to fight Nague after Cuylle laid a monster hit on Pietrangelo mid-way through the third period. The SN clip has been age limited on YouTube so had to use this one:
The scoring details from the NHL:

The Rangers next game is on Wednesday, a re-match with the Bruins, at MSG, 19:00 EST. Please note the telecast is provided by TNT, truTV, MAX, SN and TVAS but not MSG.

From the game thread:
Norm said “Chytil got his new team a valuable point.”
And then he promptly lost it for them by flubbing the puck at the Detroit net and not even trying hard to get back down the ice. Chytil giveth, Chytil taketh away.
Just watched the Kakko goal, snipe from the circle.
Boom!
Someone pointed out Buch getting another assist last night and 238 pts in 267 GP for the Blues… it probably won’t happen this season but he’s closing in on 500 pts, 433 in 568 GP. Still only making 5.8 now but goes up to 8.0 the next three. Miss him.
Dammit, call the Instigator Penalty after a clean, entertaining hit. This dimwit League discourages the best plays.
Why can’t this site take us back to the latest read Post instead of again and again to the top of the Beezle essay where we have to scroll and scroll?
Can’t log into WordPress but it remembers my lego icon anyway.
Mr. Beezle, the point Chytil got the Canucks with his tying goal was not taken away when they failed to get the extra. But you knew this, so I’m confused by the entry. Great write-up, though, so thanks!
Yes, not sure will keep this. Just realized the “default” comment box did not allow for including of images, youtube or twitter in the posts.

I’ll leave this be for now, you may see changes in the later hours of the day/evening
Norm, of course it doesn’t take away from it but like I said, giveth (the goal) and taketh (the flub leading to goal the other way)
That was the check of the seasons!
Well done Beezle nice write up following a victory. If Bazooka Pete is going to keep Bananajad with Miller, than the boy wonder needs to bring in a vet 3C. Brodude is not the answer. Of course that’s if the playoffs are in their sights. Honestly I did not think they would get Quick his 400th win last night.
A 3c will be more expensive than a winger
Thought they would move the DJ to 3c with this
Trade ..still think he needs to move out the DJ if he has any chance
bobbyo
I agree on moving the DJ I’ve been on board with that for at least 2 years. But Drury will never do it. I think he can find a checking center that serves their needs better that Brodude. Ideally if the DJ is staying I would go with this.
Cuylle Miller Busto
Krusty Vermont Kaliyev
Kreider DJ Smith
Edstrom Carrick Rempster
Cooscoos
Cullye dropped his gloves first so couldn’t give Vegas guy the instigator
I think he’s leaning to keeping the DJ for playoff
Run and moving him in summer …he still has to figure out how to bring in a replacement for Lindgren in addition to a 3c though
Beez – we both do not speak of dry cleaning establishments when we allude to Clean and Press. 🙂 Good, healthy habit.
Meeka’s great as long as he has a top LW and top 1C on his line…wtf?? Yes, he finally went to the net to score but was on PP with nobody marking him. Pass to Miller Lite was him standing alone after receiving a laser pass from JT.
Please trade this empty jersey pronto before he gets hurt.
Pietrangelo doing a somersault in the air like Elmer Fudd after that hit was crazy.
Traded JT – kept Haze – wrong move
Traded Buch – signed Tuba – wrong move
Wouldnt keep Kakko in top 6 – wrong move
Forwards run the show; much harder to replace than Dmen
Jamesgeau
Beezle, you wrote, “[Chytil] promptly lost it for them,” or I wouldn’t have replied. As to Kakko’s one-timer, I wish him well, a valuable contributor to the Rangers’ recent success, but, boy, was it frustrating to see him fire it immediately rather than love the puck for a while and then shoot, as he did in NY.
In the short term, it looks as though Chytil and Kakko, no longer blocked by signed vets, may take off, and the trades could be the win-win all GM’s want.
SN the DJ almost fanned on that tap in goal to boot
One thing I admired about that terrific Cuylle hit was the reaction of the stud defender he hit, Pietrangelo. The guy (who had just withdrawn from Team Canada with some ailment or other) popped right up after that hit where so many others would have lain on the ice trying to draw a fiver. Now that’s old-time hockey.
SN – baby steps with Mika? Not giving him a pass on everything prior but it was one of his better games, a very low Limbo bar 🤣
I want to hate Quick for 2014, but the guy is just likeable and a perfect backup.
Can someone give me a Nemeth points update in the Swedish league?
lol gravy the guy is a stud, consecutive 12-point seasons
Will the Pink Panther be the next Ryan Graves?
@Gravy
Shouldn’t you want to hate Lundqvist instead?
The kings were far the better team
We were their easiest round of all 4 and they said so
The Kings were the better team, but three OT games and LAK tying goal on an uncalled blatant goaltender interference. Series was closer than 4-1.
Not to mention the no trip trip call on Zucc in Game 5 leading to the tying goal.
Clifford the Big Red Dog sitting on Henrik during critical goal being scored while the refs whistle 3 blind mice is an enduring memory
Still think
10-8-13
20-16-50
26-93-91
Is the best top 9 – get JB out of the mix and play our centers, at center…
Agree play centers at center ..maybe Edstrom over Vesey on wing with DJ ..bringing in another center won’t be easy and he just moved a center and his number 1
Clouseau in Vancouver inspecting the newly arrived Pink Panther.
Yanni Gourde age 33, is a UFA after this year.
He just had surgery for a sports hernia, expected to be out for 5-7 weeks.
He last played January 1, don’t know if it is something he’d been trying to play through.
Five weeks is right at the trade deadline, March 7.
Perhaps he ends up cheap enough to take a chance on.
If healthy, how do you like him in the 3C role (with the flexibility to play wing)?
(Back in 2019, Sidney Crosby at age 32, had sports hernia surgery, was out about 8 weeks, came back and had 30 points over last 24 games. )
Lav on Vaakanaiinen “he’s a real good defender
..he moves the puck…he’s big and strong” sounds like someone that should be playing with Fox right now
in 80 games last season Yanni 11G 22 A …. doesn’t look top 9 material anymore so where does he go?
Seems like he is spending too much time now on his singing career
Colorado has had 27 forwards play in a game this season. LAK..14.
Robocop is jealous:
Told that #CBJ Kirill Marchenko’s surgery today in Dallas included the insertion of metal plates and screws to stabilize the broken bones.
No return timeline offered by #CBJ, but playes/screws could allow for a quicker return (as little as a month) than if his jaw was wired shut.
He had 30 points in 2019-20 when he won a cup with TB.
Over half a point per game in the playoffs for his career.
Our current 3rd line:
Kreider 18 pts
Brodz 7pts
Cuylle 27 pts
But it’s not as much about the scoring, sort of Fast-like.
And I don’t think Yanni sings.
Hopefully the Jackets haven’t dropped out of the playoff picture by the time Kirill returns. /s
Faksa may be cheaper than Goirde
Honestly want Tanev for the wing more
The Rangers did win last night…..I wasn’t dreaming. This one will last until…. well doesn’t matter does it?
Toughness? Darren McCarty is available and only 67 or so.
I will say that yesterday was the best Kreider has looked in a long while
Skating. Motivated. Grinding. Celebrating.
Hope he’s turned the corner and is getting healthier
They shouldn’t be buyers of anyone at the deadline. Sink or swim with what they have.
Kakko scoring has to be helping relative trade value of other movable pieces, ‘scenery change’
Good for Chytil to score with new team already. Wish that kid nothing but the best.
Glad he’s not with a rival
Howdens scoring rate has plummeted. Anyone still regretting him being gone?
Both games against Vegas I continued to be unimpressed with his play
Carrick way more valuable than him
Bobby –
There are things to like about Faksa, obviously his size stands out, but what was the one thing you kept going to with the talk of Chytil possibly being traded.
These numbers are from last year. It’s a moot point if Gourde isn’t healthy.
Gourde
Lg Avg Percentile
Top Speed (mph) 22.75 22.09 77
22+ mph bursts 3 3.5 68
20-22 mph bursts 173 69.7 92

18-20 mph bursts 435 315.8 65
Any buyer of Gourde a the deadline would be looking at a player coming off surgery, that hasn’t played in over 2 months. The risk has got to lower the price to some extent.

Gourde 3
Faksa 0

Faksa 53

But most Chytil trade thoughts were square peg round hole …folks wanted a checking center …not speed. Think the coach prefers one also. The problem is we traded a center and more for a center and moved him to the wing to save the DJ and he has less assets to get the 3c
Anyone see BDL lately?
Yeah, but I thought you were also calling attention to the hit that our team speed would take. Maybe that just was me projecting my belief on to what you were saying.
Tanev and Gourde skated together quite a bit by the way.
E3 – No, I Don’t recall seeing him lately.
BDL banjing w broke back mountain
For all the Rangers fans that believe they are cursed.
2017 Rangers Vs. Senators Game 5 Brassard goal to force OT.
If you haven’t seen it, this overhead view is incredible, set the playback to half speed.

I think he’s using different name

Similar writing style and knowledgeable
Corp – re Howden, Graves, Barron, etc were young cost controlled assets that were given away for meager returns. All 3 are big bodies that can play; never thought Howden was a game breaker but surrounding by quality players, he can produce.
They may get a brief energy boost form JT Miller, but I doubt he will be able will be successful and getting them to change their style of play when several coaches have been failed to do it. Tomorrow night it will be interesting to see if we get a repeat of Saturday’s uninspired, disinterested play or Sunday’s combative third period. Also will Igor bring his A game? They can’t have any passengers the rest of the way.
Ironic, isn’t it, that what got JT moved out of here are the very same things that brought him back? Attitude, moxie, iconoclasm. Like a circle in a spiral.
Rangers problem is there defense. Rangers need a 1 lefty and 1 righty defensive defensemen that has snarl and can drop the gloves when needed.
The kid up at BC is being groomed. Young tall Dman, some attitude, can move the puck, stay-at-home, won’t score (never has). Vancouver reportedly wanted him, NY refused, settled on the Pink Panther.
Jason D!ckinson (Chi) for 3C, owed 4.25 1 more year but DJ gets moved after season
Meeka, and Miller Lite to CHI for D!ckinson (c), Alec Martinez (LD) and Alex Vlassic (LD)
Why would Meeka waive for Hawks?
bobbyo
He wouldn’t.
SN, I mentioned D//kinson the other day. Would be a good 3C fit here and Chicago has centers to burn.
No, Hawks not taking back Mika but there other ways to get that done
Not many options ..possibly Leafs
If they have injuries or some big paid forwards
Leaving
Chicago gets a vet two way 2C with loads of playoff experience to help mentor young Conor and a Jones/Miller pairing (ducks)
Definitely some hopium at play here and Chicago has a killer rave scene too…
Their getting two established pros with a ton of winning in the past for an emerging LD and a 30yocenter with another year on his deal.
If Miller gets moved there will be a top 4 ad coming back ..thinking someone like Ferraro and Kunin from Sharks
Edstrom out 2 to 31/2 months.
Per jollie Mollie
Edstrom was coming along. The 4th line will miss him.
Lower body.
When does Groulx get a look?
Graves definitely short end of stick. Never given a chance with the big club. That was the worst of the 3 you mention SN
Too bad, seemed like an innocuous play.
Mika has looked very engaged since the trade. Maybe JTM bought a few of his albums.
Two fold
JT takes some of the pressure to be “the man” off Mika
Mika on wing allows him to refocus and simplify
I fully expect Mika to move back to center soon.
His haircut and kreider shaving has helped both of them
First PP JT was back for had Kreider on the bench. Then they moved Trocheck off the PP1 and that seemed to wake Kreider up
Nashville still owes us ‘future considerations’, if I’m not mistake. lol
Colton Sissons
Cap hit of $2.857M with another year on his contract
53.7% on FO for his career
Over 66% of his zone starts have been in the D-zone
Good speed, not averse to hitting
Decent size 6′ 1″ 200 lbs
Last year was his best offensively with 15G 20 A 35Pts
Preds giving some youngsters a chance and he’s currently listed as 4th line RW on the depth chart per Puckpedia but has taken 439 FO at 55.6%
I’m reluctant to give up any more assets to help the group that took a month off.
Believe the group as a whole was playing much better since Jan 1; JT is the kicker.
Sorry but having a hard time congratulating Meeka for finding some semblance of a game playing with a league wide top 10 Winger and top 10 center. Hopefully it’s Dreary showcasing knowing he can’t mange much on his own.
The $28M line should be producing!! Like to see Laffy on JT’s right.
Sorry to hear Edstrom injury. Would nice to know what thevheck it is. Broken bone, pulled groin. Maybe if reporters could do a better job of covering this team,we mightbknow something. Oh well. LGR
Beat Boston
Their D is not good enough …This deadline should be about moving the DJ …for this year and the future
Definitley rangers have to move Z-bad, I also add fox in that equation.
Fox is horrible in his own zone, easily knocked off puck battles in his zone, skating has deteriorated and making 9.5 mil per. Between lingren, fox and miller, these 3 are horrendoeus in there own zone and in front of the goalie. IMO these 3 need to be replaced.
I would keep Miller only if the rangers could find a righty tough stay at home defensemen to compliment miller’s game. Lets face it, miller is not a number one defensemen.
They a lefty tough and mobile defenseman to play with Foxy
I think fox is shot, legs are important when it comes to skating. I never thought watching fox play he was a good skater to begin with but it appears after that knee injury he suffered last year fox’s skating has gotten worse. Fox getting paid 9.5 mil per year, no thanks, I would trade him.
Lingren was a good soldier for the rangers but with his smaller built and his style of play it’s apparent watching him play his game has gone off the rails due to injuries and physical abuse. Drury needs to trade lingren at trade deadline and recoup at least a draft pick.
Jeff, if I had to take a educated guess I would say it’s a knee issue.
I think it was on the Dad’s trip where the were interviewing Adam’s father and he said he wishes he had Adam take power skating lessons when he was younger.
Is it too late? Seriously, we know what Brian Boyle did.
Get Fox (and others) on the Beezle Powerbuilding Program
Maybe if Fox changed his name to Wolf. Because he ain’t getting it done as a Fox.
Noticed Fox game take a dive 2 years ago after all star game. Not only has his play fallen off he just looks like there is something wrong. Just the way he skates and carries himself. With this crew maybe the teams needs fulltime psychologist to help them with whatever has gotten number of them in a funk.
Like the rest of you there areca number of guys that I think should be traded. Let`s see what the trade deadline brings us. I do not believe that Drury will make the right moves, but you never know.
How many of us remember what Patrick did in 94. Hey you nevef know.
Have got to be optimistic.
“Get Fox (and others) on the Beezle Powerbuilding Program”
James called my garage set up a “prison gym” so I’m in the process of lining up a brand new pretty full rack once the snow melts (delivery is the issue). More of an upscale look, early release vibe 🤣
You’d think this was the 1960s football targeting known knee injuries the way NHL keeps injuries under wraps.
I’d say MCL or broken bone given the timeline of 10-14 weeks
Fox not having a great season but there PP would go completely down the tube without him, along with a lot of their 5 on 5 offense.
The first contract I would unload would be Igor.
So the Caps are in 1st place with Thompson & Lindgren in net, and we have 11.5 mil screen door on a submarine.
St Pete unfortunately you don’t need to go all the way to the top of the standings, there are probably a dozen goalies outperforming Igor
Those fold out racks seem to work pretty well if you’re tight on space.
Trade JT!
I was looking for some tickets to take my 10 year old daughter to her first ever live hockey game. March 3rd, against the Islanders. Couldn’t be a better game to go to introduce the little one to hockey, right? Well… $500 for two tickets at the back of the 200 section. Cheapest available. Plus parking, food, merchandise, maybe. Sigh…
cccp
check these games
nashville
columbus
calgary
some in april could be good also
Alex
Yeah, I saw. Tickets are a bit cheaper but who wants to see Nashville or Columbus or Calgary?! Not me!
cccp
to me its to see the rangers. i’d rather not see isles anyway.
of the games i went to this season the best, most exciting, was ottawa.
I guess but I want some nasty game! I think the game vs the Fishies will be the one! I want my daughter to see it live lol
april decent prices for minn, tampa and philly
can see a torts team, or tampa kucherov etc.
highest penalty minutes of an islander is 33. next highest is 25.
philly has 4 guys with more pim.
tampa has 3 with more pim . including 1 with 76 min.
We woke up this morning 6pts out of WC 2. That’s a lot of ground to make up with one night good, one night bad Igor in net.
Quick, sign TGO to a one-year minimum wage deal (or charge HIM) B4 The Great 8 overtakes his numbers!
hockey721 I have space but can’t bolt down (radiant heat) so need a flat footed rack. The big problem is most of these places only ship on a 60′ truck that drops a pallet at the start of your driveway. I’ve never seen a truck that large go up my road (especially in winter) and I have a 600′ driveway. So hoping I can get one seller to ship it FedEx but I think waiting until snow melts is the prudent call.
Just want to say how flipping pumped I am for the return of JT Miller; should have never been traded let alone w McD to the hated Bolts
Imho a trade up there with Park/Ratelle fiasco
Hated Espo as a player, coach and most of all GM

Re SN post. When the team had parties he was never invited. Really well liked
Espo was good with fans when I was a kid
Remember he had a limo but would not drive right in.. he would get out on before garage entrance and sign autographs before going in
I’d think about Columbus since it may have eastern WC implications of those teams C3P
His daughter was my usd/jpy broker back in the day. Saw one of the (if not the) first TBL games in the Garden with her. Fun chick to go out with.
Hope she got her looks from her mom
Beeze – the arbitrage master of disaster.
Since there’s no way of knowing, I up-voted the last 2 comments. 🙂
0.565 P% is the Eastern conference playoff cut, 0.557 out west NYR are at 0.519
The three teams needing catching are TBL 0.577, OTT 0.574 and DET 0.565
Rangers on channel 58 Optimum 7 PM. (True TV)
One of TB, Ottawa or Detroit will take the 3rd divisional spot, so we wouldn’t need to catch them.
We’d probably want that team to take all possible points from the other 2, as well as the other teams ahead of us.
Right now Ottawa is in 3rd ahead of TB by 2 points, but they’ve played 2 more games than TB.
Detroit is only 1 point ahead of TB, also having played 2 more games.
Good chance TB passes both once they’ve made up those 2 games.
For now, I’d say root for TB when they’re playing against any team that is ahead of us fighting for a WC.
Put another way, Detroit and Ottawa are more catchable
If we win the 2 games in hand we have on both Detroit and Ottawa, we’ll trail them by 4 and 3 points, respectively.
Right now TB leads us by 6 points having played the same number of games.
Sens at Lightning tomorrow
I can’t see how the Rangers can pull this off. Igor is so unpredictable, and no way Quick can carry the load. My worst Minxmare is the pens getting the next Crosby in the 2026 draft with our pick. I hate the pens!
Remper has that one move. He can skate though.
