A truly great American hero has passed. No doubt in part from severe injuries incurred as a result of simply doing his job. God Bless all of the NYPD and NYFD. These brave men and women deserve every ounce of thanks and respect we can offer up and even that falls far short.
RIP Detective. This world is none the better by your passing. Prayers to your family and friends.

First.
Second. Sorry Wicky, I should have posted sooner…,
I didn’t know the circumstances of his paralysis. Detective McDonald was truly a remarkable man to forgive his assailant and dedicate his life to helping others. His passing is a loss for mankind. There are very few like him RIP.
E3, make that account already.
Sorry doodie – I’ve needs to get on it ….
E3
No worries, you gots to handle your biznass;)
Odd question, but has ovi ever had a concussion?
Doodie – you knows my Bidness ain’t Yo Bidness. So be Keeping yo nose outta my Bidness.
Say what again I dare you I double dare you.
Ovi ain’t got no brain. Can’t concuss what you ain’t got. Know what I’m sayin?
Rest in peace. Always was a great ranger fan and better person.
Wick, I don’t think he’s ever had one that’s been public knowledge. Whether or not he’s had one we’ll never know. In general he’s a big dude with a lot of hockey sense who keeps his head up. So I don’t think it’s all luck in his situation.
I haven’t been involved with the convos about Laine and the hits but I will say that out of your rules I would definitely like to see some of the clutching and grabbing come back into the game. I don’t think it would be that dramatic of a change when all is said and done though. They don’t want to negate the speed. And the days of the enforcers don’t need to come back at the expense of guys with skill on fourth lines. I for one would bring back the red line. I think that would make an impact
Blue lives matter.R.l.P.Detective McDonald. LET’S GO RANGERS!!In your honor.
James
I think it’s got a lot to do with him always initiating contact, rarely is he the receiver. Also, some people are more prone to concussions than others…maybe he’s a lucky one that way.
–
You are correct, he’s usually “on edge” as a player during the game and that certainly helps.
I think, Honorable Jersey with his Name and #1 would be appropriate on the MSG rafters, in lasting memory…
Or his shield number.
I like that idea a lot.
HS game:
Suffern Hockey
@SuffHock
Suffern player collides with Mahopac goalie as goalie was playing puck. All mayhem ensues. Suffern and Mahopac players get majors.
RIP Steven McDonald
Definitely no to bringing back the red line. It’s a fast game and should be.
4ever- That’s a great idea! I like the idea about the shield number, also.
How about a Rangers jersey with his shield as the number.
It has been amazing to see Conor grow from a little boy to a man to a detective. I sure it is even more amazing for someone like Carp who had the chance to meet and talk with the family.
I am sure his father is looking down from Heaven smiling.
I have the utmost respect for Steven McDonald because I don’t think I would ever find it in my heart to forgive someone who shot me. I know the Rangers will do right by him in their tribute because for all of the organization’s faults, they do know how to honor one of their own.
The NYPD is doing right by Conor, too. Not to take anything away from the kid, but he made detective awfully quickly.
What’s your point Carp?😃 suffern has always been a bit chippy.
Rest In Peace Officer McDonald. A true American hero.
Condolences to his family.
I like the Shield Number Jersey idea.
High schoolers get it, the rangers….not so much.
–
I wonder how many of the high school fans were yelling “don’t to anything, we’ll make them pay on the power play!” Lol
Jersey plus badge number would be most excellent.
Coached HS hockey for 15 years, Wick. One thing I can tell you for certain is that with few exceptions they decidedly do not get it. 🙂
Norm
Lol
Not just detective doodie but detective sergeant from what I’ve read
Be great if tomorrow on the tweeter they are referring to tonight’s Caps v Pens game as “Knee on Knee Fest 2017”
While waiting for the Caps Pens to start, I turned on the Kbcks and actually watched a full quarter. Hard to believe how far the quality of NBA Bball has fallen. That was the worst display of “basketball” I have ever seen. Rather watch at 4th street
Caps?
AND Pens?
Pierre with the double penetration tonight for sure
Nix will win the title…….in about 200 years.
Keith Yandle with 3rd goal of the season tonight, at Brooklyn.
Yandle 3 goals, 19 points
Nick Holden 8 goals, 22 points
Nice job, Commissioner Gorton!
Mahopac has a bad rep, way out of Suffern’s league
.
Mamo #1 in state, looking a repeat or am I talking Chapanese?
I read a lot about Steven McDonald when i first saw the award mentioned, i think the first recipient i can remember publicly noticing was Jed Ortmeyer, about 5 years after i became a Ranger fan.
Officer McDonald was shot 3 times in the head, neck and spine while investigating bike thefts in Central Park – he was lucky to live at all, let alone live his life and inspire others the way he has.
He forgave the kid who shot him, they even corresponded a bit, he served 9 years in jail and was killed 3 days after his release on parole in a “freak” motorcycle accident….hmmm, freak?
Simon, the very first recipient was Jan Erixon back in 1988. No surprise that Adam Graves went on to win it 5 times between 1992 and 2000. I remember Ortmeyer winning a couple times, Sandy McCarthy too. Hank won it his rookie year after stealing the No 1. job from Kevin Weekes. Messier, Gretzky and Leetch have all gotten it before among others. I have no doubt the Rangers organization will honor Detective McDonald with class tomorrow night.
Caps-Hawks on Friday night
Niiiice, I like

Nice to have a GM who is earning his keep rather than living off his reputation. Let’s see what happens at the deadline this year. No more Yandle or Stahl trades please.
writers from FL on NHL Network have said flat out that the Panthers’ defense has gotten worse with his addition and the departure of Kulikov.
Absolutely James, i imagine there won’t be a dry eye in the big house when they do a tribute. The 3 minute video was a real tear-jerker.
Would be a nice touch if the Rangers could wheel out a few previous winners to lead the tribute like Gravy, Ortmeyer, McCarthy, Beezer, Mess, Leetch, Barnaby etc…
I’m pretty sure we can expect Graves as well as the Captain in attendance
http://nypost.com/2017/01/11/how-rangers-playoff-comfort-should-affect-vigneaults-tryouts/
Pretty good article from Uncle Larry this morning. Interesting fact on Lundqvist. In 28 games this time he has let up a goal on the first or second shot against 7 times (25% of his starts)…
Morning wankers!
Yikes, 25%! That’s a real focus & readiness problem for Hank & the defense.
The very, very top athletes anticipate. There’s a film in their head of a movie that hasn’t yet reached the theaters.
I wonder if hank suffers from a bit of pcs issues?
Yandle must have been on the boat with OBJ
during last night’s game, NBC showed Holtby in pregame routine, simply exercising his eyeballs, side to side to prep for tracking the puck during the game. Interesting to see. Before any LoHud Yankee posters here turn me into a straw man, I’m NOT saying he’s better than Hank, not saying anything other than an interesting pregame exercise
Henk’s pre game routine is brushing his hair while gazing into a mirror for at least 20 minutes.
Now THAT is focus!
Always good for a chuckle

Such a long week and no games to discuss.
My thoughts are with the McDonald family.
We could discuss Avery, Torts or McIlwrath. Always a way to increase posts…

Opie the Victim. Now more than ever.
MSG will be very dusty. There will be many onions being cut throughout the arena.
Buchnevich is back!
Nash and Buch should be in the lineup Friday, right?
I am excited.
Brooks saying Hrivek would need to clear waivers to be sent down. Not that I care, but since he cleared waivers once already, can’t they send him back and forth at will? Like they have with Jensen.
Buch takes us from 5th in the Metro to 4.5th in the Metro
Staal’s 30. At least his third concussion that we know of. Didn’t like contact before; doubtful he will do anything but be more shy. We have an extended D problemo on many counts.
Opie the victim..Shane on mcilrath, we’re supposed to make teams pay for that sort of thing with the power play and whining about the hit in the post game interview. No wonder they traded him, can’t give the perp a beat down…bad bad mcilrath
Excited to see this kid Buchnevich play. I’ve heard really good things about his play over in Russia. Glad the kid is finally gonna play for the Rangers!
Everytime someone says “opie the victim” I think about Opie from SOA and get sad 🙁
Coos, it’s a problem that’s not going away anytime soon. And Clendening or no Clendening, the fact that Ryan Graves hasn’t been called up at all between this injury and Klein’s poor play is very concerning to me.
McDonagh-Trouba
Holden-Kulikov
Skeji-Franson
*alarm clock buzzes*
Franson? Why?
FG- I actually recall that many years ago, Chico Resch used to do eye exercises when he played.
Good afternoon, boneheads! Or is it evening already?
Why are we talking about Stepan again?
BDL- after a player clears initial waivers, he can be sent down and recalled freely until he plays 10 games or stays on the NHL roster for 30 days ( both cumulatively. Hrivik played in 16 games already, and was recalled in the beginning of December. He needs to clear waivers again.
Franson because he is a top 4 righty Dman, can play PP and hopefully not cost too much given UFA and Expansion draft.. And Buffalo should be out of it by mid-Feb.
.
Would prefer not to lose young forward talent to plug RD hole with a mythical RD1 who will cost a lot to obtain and hold on to.
.
Staal LITR – too soon??
Thanks Ilb,
It would not be a loss if Hrivek was claimed. Zibanijad in regular practice jersey.
Great idea James….
Mcdonut trouba
Holden gudbranson
Graves vatanen
I guess you watch him play more than me, but looking at his numbers, I don’t think Franson is top 4 in Buffalo. His minutes per game are only 18.
Franson is third pair in Buffalo behind Ristolaanen, and Bogasian.
Franson lost his PP1 role to Ristolainen so his TOI is down and Pts/game as well. While he is not the second coming of Kevin Lowe, the right side needs help and his skill set could work there.
Wow, looks like they’ll have full team playing very soon. Jansen and Hrivik are going back. Who’s sitting? Pirri, Puempel?
Ah, Puempel is out with post-concussion symptoms.
To start when all are healthy.
Kreider, Stepan, Zucc
Nash, Zibanijad, Buchnevich
Grabner, Hayes, Miller
Vesey, Lindberg, Fast.
I eventually flip Krider, and Nash. even though they have done well together, I don’t really like Kreider with Zucc
EddieJ – Chico wasn’t doing eye exercises. That was a twitch to edge his wig back into place
If the Caps win tomorrow night, I’d say that makes this a pretty good week for them
Pretay pretay pretay good
I don’t think Franson is very good …
ORF, hate to tell you, but they’d do the Yandle deal again if they felt they had a shot.
What would hold us back from getting “My Cousin Vinny’s” nephew ? Ya know, that kid down there in Carolina hard core ecstasy. He looks like a Goodfella. No ?
Bdl
Lines seem right especially after the Kreider Nash swap
I don’t know, I just kinda like this Brett Pesce kid. He seems to play a smart game & I admire his attitude & maturity. He’s on a reasonable ELC thru 17-18, & shouldn’t cost much.
Admittedly, I haven’t seen that much of him, but it seems like he may become a solid top 4 RD.
A frican bye week is long. Crop the Schmuck already.
LOL, FG.
Good morning, boneheads!
I’m expecting a special evening tonight. No doubt they will have a pregame tribute, and no doubt it’ll be first class, as this person deserves it.
As for the game- both teams play after their respective bye weeks, so…..
Stvpatricks and fifth a madhouse right now for Officer McD
Haven’t heard from Sioux. All okay, old buddy?
http://i65.tinypic.com/nb4z9u.jpg
Was on the Blueshirt podcast with Jim Cerny today … will post a link when he puts it up on the internets.
Carp – right side of D is Done G, Half a Klein and the Miracle Met. Franson would be an upgrade on any of them based upon their current play and he could come cheap.
Del Zotto will be a Ranger by March. Book it
SN, I’m aware how bad the right side is. … I just don’t think Franson is very good. Could see him being the whipping boy within weeks. I mean, is he better than Yandle? People hated Yandle.
Maybe Old Dan Boyle can make a comeback.
Coos
Re Sioux…nope, I’ve sent him text messages several times over the past month with no response. I’ll give him a call on way way into work later this morning.
On way way=on way into…need more coffee :/
Carp
Not funny
way way funny, wick.
I’m not against the deadline trades in principle. It’s just that in those two cases they seem to chase what the conventional wisdom had decided were the “best player available.” Yandle just isn’t that good compared o the price they paid. If Stahl had played last year like he has this year that trade would have been ok. He seemed like he had nothing left last year and AV never seemed to find a spot for him here. He seems to have reborn in Minny this year. Gorton has done a pretty good job since he took over so we have to cut him some slack. The cupboard is pretty bare as far as player development is concerned. The team is pretty young so it’s not an immediate concern, but, they need to restock at some point.
Sioux still posts on Twitter sometimes, so he is around. I am sure the last few months have been very tough for him and his family.
Sioux, if you are reading this, we miss you bud. You are still in my thoughts.
I hope the boys are inspired by the pre-game ceremonies today, whatever they may be, to give a little extra effort
Adam Graves is speaking now at Steven McDonald’s funeral.
Conor is speaking now and I have all kinds of respect for him getting up to do so. I know I would never have been able to do so at my wife’s funeral. God Bless the McDonald Family!
I see the Yandles name was mentioned. Holden 8/14 Yandle 3/17 Skjei 1/16. Never thought Yandle was more than mediocre defender and certainly loved the dangerous, often stupid, cross ice pass. Whether Duclair ends up a good player, time will tell. Kid is only 21.
Ranger’s history is not great on night’s they have special ceremonies. There is a good chance they may be distracted and come out flat for the game tonight.
I like how people compare Yandle’s production on the dumpster fire that is the 2016-2017 Panthers season and assume that it would have been the same here. As if he also wouldn’t have benefited from the goal bonanza at the beginning of the season.
hard for the team to come out any flatter than last home game (Buffalo)
.
Maybe ceremony delay will provide Henk time to get properly styled, I mean, focused.
.

ORF, as I recall, Renney was fired on Howell/Bathgate night.
SN… I think you seriously offended Hanks hair. Maybe even E3
Now that Yandle and Duclair are both not on the Rangers, do I have permission to stop talking about them and move on?
Yandle’s sux.
The end.
Yandle*
Here is some insight from our humongous big friend Bryz
http://www.theplayerstribune.com/mailbag-ilya-bryzgalov/
Henrik’s free time is spent focused on his perfectly tailored suits. 🙂
Will be there tonight to witness the ceremony first hand. Hopefully followed by one of the things Detectivr McDonald loved most. Big Rangers win!
Sioux is doing ok, just not around the computer much right now!!
Looking for a volunteer for tonight. I would love to see some new hands
Doodie
Not sure what you’re asking people to volunteer for, but it sounds very randy 😉
Your hands are exquisite. You know, I’ve never noticed this before? They’re smooth.. creamy.. delicate, yet masculine.
Not around a computer? I guess he still uses the old Motorola flip phone too.
beam me up scotty

Btw, to my Russian speaking droogs —
HAPPY OLD NEW YEAR!
I’ll be happy to write me up some game review. You dig?
Hank is really pretty.
Tronald Dump is not pretty.
I’ll show you something but it won’t be my hands, believe me.
Ian – “You should have seen what I wanted to put on the cover. It wasn’t a glove believe me”
Bobbie Fleckner, the hostess with the mostess – “you tell me what was on the white album? There was nothing on that God **** cover”
When I’d trade deadline day this season?
Is
As opposed to us old hands.
The 2017 NHL Trade Deadline is Tuesday, February 28 at 3pm EST.
Anthony
Thanks. For some reason I thought it was march something
Interviewees ability to say right words with no real meanings is amazing… But intentions counts. No blame…
Also tonight, MSL being honored in Tampa (vs. CBJ) … Torts speaking now, opens with “Marty was a pain in the ass to coach.”
Good evening all! Can it be go time already!? LGR!
Watching pre-game already a bit teary-eyed
Allright folks, off from Spring break or BeBuy week. We need to come out strong, hard on the forecheck & try to backcheck with gusto. I fully expect the boys to not allow more than…….. 2 goals in the first. SMH.
LGR !!
Argh! Waiting for center ice to kick in…..I’m in awe what they did to the jerseys…..
And of course no pre-game here. Cuz Dolan ?
But may the spirit of Officer McDonald shine light upon his family.
And selfishly, upon his team, our New York Rangers !!!!
Finally!
NEW POST
