It was the age of foolishness, it was the epoch of disbelief, it was the epoch of incredulity, it was the season of lights, it was the season of darkness, it was not yet the spring of hope, it was definitely the winter of despair!
Hopefully Dickens will pardon my modification of a portion of one of his famous quotes from “A Tale of Two Cities”. Or in this case, one city with five boroughs.
Cutting to the chase – good candidate for worst game of the season as a team. The third and fourth lines, as usual, were the best of the bunch and at least gave some indication of fight and self-esteem. Defensemen Mackey tried as well. Chytil over 50% again at the dot!
But it is a team game and these guys weren’t even passengers this afternoon, they were the ones holding the passenger’s luggage. The coach began cutting even strength top six shifts and Kreider was sent to the 4th line for a spell. Shesterkin was pulled after the fifth goal and replaced by Quick.
Hard to write a review when only one team showed up to play, so just going to give the scoring re-cap and leave the rest to the comment section. There’s a fire extinguisher somewhere, use it things get too out of hand!

Start off by saying – If Lavi is still around tomorrow, he needs to cut top six time drastically. If they have a beef with Drury? OK, he has a beef with them. 3rd line 24 mins, 4th line 20. 1st pair Fox/Lindy? 10 mins. PP1? PP2? Pick from the 3rd and 4th lines and 2nd/3rd pair D.

What this team needs is more cowbell.

Every time this franchise goes on a losing stretch, Mark Messier’s name immediately comes up in conversations as the one who can save the franchise. It makes me chuckle every time… yeah, why don’t we bring a guy with zero coaching experience at the NHL level to yell at the players!
Did not realize this was an afternoon game and missed the whole thing except the last few minutes. I caught up with the comments you guys posted during the game. Thank you. I am assuming this was not on Igor but in the team โdefenseโ and play?
Just my worthless opinion but think Messier would be a disaster as a coach and would only tarnish his legacy.
Igor is 58th in GAA and 32nd in SP
Thank god he’s not making top goalie money this season.
Ouch. Thank god we didn’t give him $15 million
At this point, it’s everyone’s fault.
team “not make a play”. nhl.com has clips of the scoring plays, pretty indicative of entire game.
They don’t play defense or offense.
Lavi has to take some blame, though we’ll never know how much Drury pushes him to keep minutes up for top six. Maybe he doesn’t at all, but isn’t this a coach who benched Ovi?
and was shown the door shortly after
A very good one to miss, Keeper.
Thank you Beezle. I watched the game recap. Interesting watching Lavioletteโs reactions from the first goal to the fifth. First goal he is angry and barking. By the fifth goal heโs got a thousand yard stare. I have felt the players mentally checked out weeks ago. Now I think the coach has as well and sort of donโt blame him.
As the Rangers set out on the road some team bonding may be in order. I suggest tar.
Whoever made the schedule really wanted to show off a battle of teams at the top of their game tomorrow.
Rangers/Blues – both teams will be on the second game of back-to-backs and both teams have to travel tonight. Smfh
Would Messier even take on this baby bottom soft team?
Sure he would. With his ego he probably thinks he could win a Cup with Fairfield Prep or Apple Core
If you want to send a message, then he should healthy scratch two out of the following Zbad, Kreider, Panarin, Trocheck, Laf, Fox or Lindgren. Personally I would start with Kreider (the team leader) and Zbad. Sit them for a couple of games and if the effort doesn’t pick up, move down the line and make examples of each of them.
I think he would at least hold players accountable. There is no accountability on this team unless you are the 3rd or 4th line fall guy. Top 6 and top 4 can do whatever they want, no repercussions.
Don’t forget the feathers.
soft as a babyโs bottom
Valley says he still leads in goals saved above expected. That’s because they give him so many chances.
Who would, potentially, replace Lavi? Any decent coaches available out there?
Gamble on Peca?
heard mr. Whipple is available
Aren’t some of the boneheads former coaches?
…and current armchair GMs with extensive experience resume!
St. Stephenโs Hockey Blues (Holiday Edition)
(To the tune of โSt. Stephenโ)
Verse 1
St. Stephenโs skates, the ice grows thin,
Rangers fall, they just canโt win.
Oh, the puck slides wide, no goal to cheer,
Santaโs list is all despair.
Chorus
Holiday woes on frozen ground,
Madison Square, no joy to be found.
โScore!โ we cry, but hopeโs undone,
A hockey night with no good fun.
Verse 2
Candy canes melt in bitter tea,
The power playโs like a Christmas tree:
Lights all tangled, nothing bright,
A stocking stuffed with silent nights.
Bridge
Jingle bells, they clash and clang,
Goal horn silent, no songs sang.
Reindeer glide, but skates donโt flow,
Rangers stuck in the cold, cold snow.
Chorus
Holiday woes on frozen ground,
Madison Square, no joy to be found.
โScore!โ we cry, but hopeโs undone,
A hockey night with no good fun.
Outro
St. Stephen sighs from his winter throne,
โWill they find their way back home?โ
Gift-wrap goals, itโs all we need,
A miracle on Christmas Eve.
we need all the help we can get!
Not blaming Lavy at all but Babcock would sure has hell be interesting if you want to restore frigging order
Maybe Mika can write a catchy beat to that song. Lift team’s spirit.
These night shifts in jail are something else.
NY Post headline: ‘Ranger Star Injured, out for at least a week. They refer to #79 as a Star! Big part of our problems right there – Press/Management’s Unbounded Ignorance.
Folsom Prison Blues. Shot a man in Reno just to watch him die…
Lack of motivation is on the players. Lack of consequence is on the coach. Lack of fixing the composition is on the GM.
Why didn’t Lavi start Quick against his former team? Weird…
GREAT intro/literary Review by Beezle. Kudos.
reminds me of when sather I think fired muckler and then he himself was interim coach. Desperate times

How many bad decisions have been made from the months leading up to the “Letter”?
I keep thinking about Kris Knoblauch being allowed to wander over to Edmonton
Where does Dolan fit into that post?
He lost me when the Panarin line and Jones came right back out after the first goal. That is when he should have made a statement. I fear Drury will sell for pennies on the dollar and make the rebuild harder for the next guy.
My suspicion is Kreider is playing through back pain. If that’s the case he shouldn’t be playing. Playing in the paint for all these years may have taken its toll and we may be seing late stage Adam Graves.
Christopher Walken for coach.
Bad pinches and snow angels.
After the first goal call a TO, ream them out and sit people. Embarrass them in front of the home fans.
Drury won’t go behind the bench.
LaFerrierre ($.875M) looking much better than $7.5M Laffy Taffy
He is well aware that the team has a rather strong dislike for him. They arenโt playing for Laviolette no way they would give him any effort.
and they still call Kreider a power forward

Hmm, I wonder how Kempe compares to Rempe.
Itv was a dark and Drury night….
That sounds a bit extreme! But if you insist!

One letter can make a lot of difference.
It’s not just dislike. They don’t fear or respect him-either of which could be a motivator.
He needs someone to come in and kick him in the butt and make him act like a man-not a spoiled kid. 75% of the money goes away if they buy him out now.
On the bright side, itโs early enough to get it together and get back on track. On the down side, itโs basically the same team that won the Presidentsโ Trophy, and I donโt really have any idea how they figure that part out.
Would be a good year to have a two week Olympic break.
itโs to early to s can the season. Two options, make good hockey trades, and if you canโt do that, then fire the coach. I might consider both.
Molly calls everyone a star. How that bimbo was hired is not a great mysteryโฆ

Giggles says that Othman has begun skating. Seems recovery timeline going as expected.
There is a break for that 4 Nations thing
giggles want a cracker! Giggles want a cracker!!
Firing the coach makes absolutely no sense at all;so that is why they will most likely do it. How many more crappy games like yesterday before someone has to go. As we know, you can’t trade everybody,BUT. I would silt 93 and 20 for a couple of games and put in 3rd and 4th liners like Vesey, Bro and Rempe and tell them to bodycheck the crap out of whoever we are playing. Might not win but it will be a heck of a lot more fun to watch.
This team is easy to play against, soft and boring. Not exactly a combination you want in a hockey team.
Jeff there are really only two reasons to consider replacing Lavi at this stage – 1/ stubborness on composition of PP units and 2/ continued high playing time to top six.
As I said earlier, we don’t know the internals and if Drury has pushed or influenced any of those decisions by Lavi. If Drury has not, then certainly Lavi has not used all the tools at his disposal and one can question his total loyalty to the top six and some of the defenders too.
10-13 that’s the radio call we cops use when we need help immediately. The Rangers need help immediately.
Car 54. – where you be at?
I here he’s good with Charmin
Not all stars are bright. He’s dim that’s for sure.
That guy was talented ….so much potential. Wasted talent.
Please don’t squeeze the Chairman.
That’s quite a resemblance.
Soft, slow and uninterested . That’s a recipe for the complete disaster we are witnessing this season. Would be nice if they would demonstrate some pride. Is that too much to ask?
He was at the Knicks alumni night last week. I thought he might have ODed by now.
LAL thinks Rangers are the workers’ paradise.
From each according to his liabilities; To each according to his greeds.
always amazes me how they can fire these coaches with $10M salary left on their multi-year contracts and just write it off like it’s no big deal.
Lavi told Giggles they are still working on lineup things or something or maybe different flavored bubble gum. Who knows. Time to lift, see youse during the game

why tf is kreider in lineup with his back problems. i’d rather he sit entirely than be on 4th line playing hurt
