The Rangers attempt to pull up from their swoon tonight, Hurricanes or not. NY is now 5-5-0 in their last ten, having dropped three straight games in the face of trade speculation. Kreider spent some time late today explaining a number of injuries he has had this season as well as addressing some of the trade drama. Carolina comes into tonight’s tilt with a 6-3-1 record for their last 10 and is just off a win against the Dallas Stars. They will be without back up goalie Kochetkov who is in concussion protocol. Martin (2-2-1, 3.40 GAA, .854 SV%) gets the start and he already has three letters towards Vezina. Perets will be the backup to the backup to the backup and is a 24yr old rookie who has faced one shot on goal which he successfully stopped.
As to the Rangers, Shesterkin will be in goal tonight. Kreider remains out and day to day. Ruhwedel is back from a quick trip to Hartford and will be Prucha’d. Rempe took an ill timed penalty and was sent packing back to the AHL; Brodzinski will play in. Kakko remains as 3C.
The cops tonight are TJ Luxmore (672 GP) and Beau Halkidis (127 GP). Both are more eager than most to blow their whistles and they usually give the ticket to the visiting team. Given that Carolina’s specialty units are top shelf, the Rangers would do well to avoid any unnecessary penalties.
