The Rangers continue their road trip through the western regions with a visit to Calgary to take on the Flames. No word if they tried their hands at any of the rodeo events earlier in the day. The Flames come into the match 5-3-2 in their last 10, most recently with a S/O win over the Icelanders. The NYR are 7-3, having won their last three including two on the road.
No line up changes tonight for the Rangers, same as the Vancouver game.
Calgary’s specialty units are bottom of the barrel – 28th PP% and 26th PK%. They are woeful on face offs at 45.2%. While they do not score very much (2.58 GF/GP), they are in the top ranks defensively only allowing 2.68 GA/GP.
The zebras tonight are Tom Chmielewski (580GP) and Cody Beach (82 GP). Again with the kid refs! Chmielewski lost his whistle, or perhaps Beach stole it as he definitely likes to call things.
The key tonight: Continue to play good fundamental hockey, forechecking and backchecking on every shift. Take advantage of Calgary’s special teams.

If they can’t handle the flames forecheck they will be blown out by the Canes and Panthers. I’ll keep an open mind, but this group doesn’t seem to have what it takes.

They should be ashamed of their effort in that period. No compete level. Lazy players lost every puck battle.
The Flames PK sucks. You have a ref that likes to blow the whistle. Yet Rangers can’t be bothered to get any kind of forecheck going to get zone time and maybe a penalty call?
That may have been the worst effort in a period I have seen by this Cotton Candy Crew in quite some time. Is there any pride on the team?

EV methinks that will be the norm for the season. They just don’t have the desire to play with any kind of urgency. If they didn’t have an excess of skill things would be looking fugly by now.

I hope that wasn’t their good period tonight? That was an awful effort or complete lack of effort. Lots of stick checking and ice dancing. Shooting the puck would also be a novel idea.

I thought they had him for a brief period at the end of his career. I thought it was a league requirement that all HOF players had to play for Rangers at the end of the career when they were all washed up.

Flames playing the way you need to, as Rangers can’t handle teams that play quick and physical. This game would probably worse than Buffalo game except Igor is playing very well in this game. It could be 10-0 if not for him

This is not a physical team. If we faced the Panthers in a seven game series right now, we get crushed in 4 straight with shutouts.

I don’t get too excited about their wins…. Don’t care too much about their losses. Bottom line- they’ll squeak into the playoffs on their goalies’ backs, and then run into a forechecking team that will send them packing. Almost as scripted as the Tyson-Jake Paul fight….
They deserved the hell out of that. It’s only a shame that Shesterkin had to be the one to screw up on the winner because he WAS the Rangers for the rest of the game. None of this is on him.
